Who are the hottest Nigerian strikers in the world at the moment? Answer: Ikechukwu and Obafemi, now why aren't they in the team? Why is Mba excluded? These are impact players who are currently indispensable...just watch out my bro, Amodu will bring back these guys and u"ll see d difference in results
If amodu feels they are the best, fine but no player is indispensable bro, ike and martins have been in the national team before and we were still beaten.

Ok...Imagine u had Roberto Mancini or Mourinho as coach, do u think he"ll shut out the likes of Ike Uche out of the team on account of character? Big coaches deal with big egos on daily basis, look at Balotelli, Barton, etc...those same players you shut out will always give u the results u seek
you have no point here, mourinho shut out mata and so? is oscar truly better than mata? Berlusconi recently said that Balotelli was a rotten apple in milan and they sold him, Balotelli is struggling in liverpool and was left out of the italian national team last week, they are all tired of him, if u have a club will u buy balotelli? what has barton achieved in football.

Every coach has his preference, the players u think are the best may not be his preference, we have seen it time and again in several countries so why is Nigeria' own always a problem?

the Nigerian media should leave mikel alone after all they say he's bad player so why can't they ignore him or start a campaign to kick mikel out as they have succeeded in kicking out keshi.

I agree with u in part, but a foreign coach will not look at how close and how much the players agent gives him b4 inviting u, he won't invite u to SE matches because ur his 'loyal boy', he will invite the likes of Ike Uche, Obafemi, Mba, even Taye Taiwo, even if these players have their own faults...that wat a foreigner will do for u...he"ll scout the best across the world and use them...Take a look at Keshi's world cup squad! Wat did Uchebo, Nwafor and Gabriel Ruben etc do to merit their call up? these are players who d club had terminated their contracts, but Keshi invited 'em still...I"ll prefer a foreigner any day, even though its a medium to squander funds..
that's not true foreign coaches in africa collect bribes too and they have loyal boys, [e.g. westerhof] the way u guys adore these foreign coaches amazes me, Berti vogts felt ejide was better than enyeama cos of his height, lagerback felt yakubu was younger than osaze, he didn't know osaze was more truthful about his age than big daddy yakubu.

These foreign coaches can be crazy with their selections but because of their white skin we easily overlook their faults and crucify ours instead

Oga, one achievement ought to be a springboard to another achievement. I am not saying that Keshi shouldn't be relieved to pave way for another to come and see if they can do better if we think he has stalled. However not to acknowledge he achieved something is wicked and callous. No nation achieve anything if his people carry so much vitriol, bitterness, ingratitude, resentment and anger in them. The truth is that concerning the qualification, Keshi is yet to fail, Nigeria can still qualify and the fact he was not left to fail absolve him of any blame should Nigeria fails to qualify. He can say I would have won my remaining matches had I been allowed to finish. In that case, how would you disprove his claims. Whether you want to accept it or not, he won the nation's cup and beat Cote D'evoir and Mali enroute to the final. He achieved something and must be acknowledge for that. You can't want to count from 0 to 100 without counting small figures like 2,3 etc. Great achievement starts with apprecaition of small ones. How many Nigerian Coaches can lay claim to wining Nation's cup. Drop your sentiment and learn to appreciate what people have achieved. I am not saying Keshi should be retained but the attitude of fans towards him is totally repugnant. Afterall, NFF cannot even claim to have sacked him since he didn't have any contract with them in the first instance. His contract long expired and he was only holding forth because the glass house is in tatters and the minister pleaded with him to hold on. Let say Thank you to him for the little he has achieved and let wish him luck in his future endeavour. He deserves more than he currently gets. My opinion.

wolebanks:
Comments expressed by many so called football lovers/fans can be so annoying sometimes. The game is being played for the fans and without the fans to follow and follow well out of love for the game, there is no game. But when the followers do not understand the game or its purpose; like, I dare say, we have in Nigeria, it gives me worry. I was enraged when I learnt that objects where thrown at Keshi in the stadium yesterday, I wondered, what type of nation or people are we? The problem of our football is not NFF, coaches or players. Its the bad followers. Illitrate, Selfish and ungrateful followers.

Some compare the super eagles a national team to a clubside.
To some, its all about who plays and who doesn't play.
To some its about who gets sacked and who gets hired.
Who is good and who is bad.
Who did well and who did bad.
Who won, who lost.
Who gets paid what.
Some are after what enters their pocket.
Winning all the time no matter what.

Nigerias football lovers should understand that it is good to always win, qualify for tournaments and win trophies. But that's not all that a nations football is all about. England readily comes to mind as a nation that benefits the most from football even though the national team is not very successful in tournaments. And we need to learn a lot from them. They achieve this not because they have better players or talents or are better administrators. They achieve this because of the people who support the game out of love for it.

Football like other sports gives people jobs, it keeps youths busy and out of trouble, it entertains, it unites, stimulates economy etc, whether you qualify for tournament and win trophies or not.

SouthAfrica have discovered this and see how their football is growing and soon enough they will begin to reap real benefits if they haven't started.

Followers should follow the game for the right reasons. Public comments online or otherwise are very powerful and influential, therefore commentators should be thoughtful and careful when making them.

Then the media should educate and enlighten more than being opinionated.

With this and people that love the game in NFF, we will get our football to where we want.

Best wishes.
the media and sports analysts are the problem, they are the ones misleading and misinforming people and they are currently misleading the new nff boss which will backfire very soon

The boys are loyal to Keshi, Amodu can't get that loyalty.
See the way they celebrated with the coaching crew after their coaching crew yesterday after the victory, and you think they will excited about this news.

You think they are all chicken brained to forget that Nigerians are ungrateful, quick to forget sacrifices and castigate at every little set back.

You think inviting Obafemi, Ike and Iheanacho wil make Amodu the goood guy and singulary give Nigeria ticket to d Nations cup! grin

NFF. Has failed to put their house in order by concluding Keshi contract issues to give him time to prepare for the oncomng task. They are quick to sack for their own failure.

Nigerian called for Keshi sack, what other alternative was available other than Amodu and Siasia? Atleast they got one. My opinion: None of these two guys is a match for Keshi.

I ll be back on Nairaland to celebrate the failure on this senseless decison.

Problems with Nigerian Football Federation
1. They want quick result.
2. They don't believe football is all about, 'you win some, you loose some'.
3. The coach must not drop their favorite player even if he disrespects him.
4. They must be part of your match line up selection.
5. They are never contented with what they have

Well, they once said, 'Siasia is stubborn' but remember that with that stubbornness, he got us result and when they couldn't just manipulate him, they sacked him.

Keshi came when Nigeria's football was almost dead and forgotten, they still said same thing- 'Keshi is stubborn'. He gave a deaf ear, made his own selection to nation's cup and gave us good result. He was almost nailed to the cross during the world cup (including those who claimed world cup wasn't for boys) and decided to listen to the 'OGAS AT THE TOP'. Well, we saw the outcome. Now he wants to do his stuff his own way but they are saying it again- 'Keshi is stubborn'. Hence, He's sacked.

I didn't expect less from the NFF anyway and I hope their next coach remains permanent because whether foreign or local coach, once you're branded "stubborn", you won't last! The USA '94 coach, Westerhoff (correct my spelling please) can attest to this.
I wish them luck!

Emenike has been terrible so far. He should not be on the strafing line up. Our biggest weakness has been in the defensive midfield position. Onazi does not like to hold the defensive midfield so Raheem Lawal who did well in the Sudan match should start. Nosa, Raheem and Mikel can for a strong possessive midfield trident. They are all strong on the ball and good passers of the ball.

We need to bring in Wing play to our game, coupled with possessive play. So we would need a formation with a compact midfield. I suggest we go with a 4-5-1 formation.

Aside Westerhoff,bonfre jo,siasia keshi.
I never considered the rest as good coaches.
TBH a few months ago,i was one of keshi's biggest fans here on NL.
I defended him like say him bi my papa.
But man at times we've got leave sentiments aside and say d obvious truth.
One thing with these nigerian coaches(siasia and keshi) is that they let little success get into their brain.
Immediately they achieve something,
Their pride and ego get swollen and destroys everything They struggled to build.
A lot of people say keshi won the afcon by mere LUCK,but even till now i strongly disagree with that.
Keshi's strengths has never being tactics,he has never been a great tactician(right from the time he was togo coach),his strength is his coaching mentality and sometimes, his ability to motivate and inspire players(make them kill themselves on d pitch).
Majority of The players keshi used to win the afcon were average players on paper.
One of the reasons we won the afcon was unity, harmony and great understanding between the players, and keshi was the reason for this.
But immediately after winning the afcon, keshi's pride and ego started to swell as usual,he became more arrogant and started fighting with one player after the other.
Since the afcon our team has never been as united.

Same thing happened in togo.
During the 2006 world cup qualifiers, keshi formed a united togolese team.He qualified them for the world cup.
Immediately he qualified them, his pride and ego began to swell as usual, then he started fighting with the players, the FA and everyone.
He was sacked immediately.
Keshi has always been the architect of his own downfall.

He builds something, then he destroys it himself.

Same thing with many nigerian/african coaches.
I agree with your post and that's what i was trying to say in my earlier post, little success gets into the head of the average Nigerian player and you have captured that very well in your post and that's why I will never support the appointment of siasia, oliseh, finidi or any ex player as coach, they are the same thing with keshi, full of ego and very stubborn especially the 94 set who believe they are the best Nigerian players ever, we would only have same problem with whoever becomes the next coach. if an oliseh becomes coach and he selects his players do you think anyone can change his mind? never i tell u, same for others too

My take is until we have true professionals at the helm of affairs at nff and nff becomes truly independent of the Govt especially in the area of funding we'll keep having issues with the super eagles. The nff is the root of the problem of our football, they have no future plan, why was it difficult to replace keshi after the world cup in the first place, why not ask him to go if you cannot renew his contract these are questions we should be asking, of the course the answer is no plan, truth be told nff has no replacement for keshi, we are going back to one of those former coaches and i don't think they have the money to get a foreign coach except only its six months to a world cup.

My only grouse with keshi is that he would have begged the presidency to allow him go after the world cup, its no use working with people who don't see anything good in you, I feel keshi lacked enough confidence to quit after the world cup, he would have gotten another job, even Ghana is still looking for a coach. Keshi perhaps thought he will be jobless for too long and he goofed cos after afcon early next year, countries would have scrambled for his signature esp those that won't do well. I wish him well he has done his bit no doubt.

Did anybody select players for keshi ?
Isn't it the coach that invites the players and field the players ?.
Who is to invite the "new and uncapped quality players" ?.
THE COACH !!.
But the coach simply chose to invite some of worst players ahead of the best.
So the coach is to blame, becos he makes the decisions on who to invite and who to field.
Can u boldly say the set of players keshi has been inviting are our possible best ??.
Hell no !.Since last year the sets of players keshi has been using is nowhere near our possible best.

Which top coach in the world would invite an austrian league bench-warmer ahead of d dutch league 2nd highest goal scorer ?.
Or a norweigian league bench-warmer ahead of a la liga regular ?

TACTICS

Which top coach would continue to use exactly d same tactics over and over again even when it keeps on failing ??.

Our attack was very useless against SA.
A top coach would have learnt a few things and made one or two changes.
But keshi decided to field exactly d same team against sudan, exactly the same tactics.

We might not have world class players, but we have better players than the ones we keshi has been inviting.

Players may be part of the problem, but 80 percent of the problem is from the coach.
ok o i agree with you keshi is the problem, same thing we said about siasia, eguavoen, amodu, chukwu, westerhof, bora, troussier, bonfere jo and every other coach that has handled the team, they all lacked tactics too, same old story, I just hope we won't be back here to complain about the tactics of the new coach too.

I dont think our primary problem is players.
We're are not talking about the world stage.we're talking about africa now.
We have a great amount of relatively quality players to at least compete on the african stage.
Does congo have better players than nigeria ?.
Does south-africa have better players than nigeria ?.
Does sudan have better players than nigeria ?
Yet these teams are doing better than us currently.
Bro players isnt our main problem.
Our main problem right now is simply the coach.
Now try and understand me better, the current players we have now especially those who won the nations' cup are becoming complacent, to them there is no challenge anymore, they feel so comfortable especially our starting eleven, this has been the bane of our football over the years, have you asked yourself why the 94/96 set failed at france 98, they could could not even win any of the african nations cup of 2000, 2002, 2004 and we had great players then with great local and foreign coaches respectively. Little success gets into the head of the average Nigerian player and they start declining so fast that weaker oppositions begin to mess them up, is this the first time we are loosing to very weak african sides? this has been a recurring problem for many years now, I repeat its more than a coaching problem, we keep changing coaches and keep having that problem can't you see?

Keshi will go but do you think the likes of emenike, echeijele, ambrose, oboabona, musa and all our starting eleven will get us to the promised land with the way they are playing or can we continue to rely on the likes of martins osaze and uche who are getting to close to retirement, those guys only want to get back to the national team after missing out for so long and play like they were playing before, what is their rating presently even in africa as we speak, we keep lying to ourselves that our players are top notch bro

Everyone thought moyes was the problem at manu u until van gaal came and the trend continued, it took the coming in of players like di maria, falcao, blind and others for several millions of pounds to try and remedy the situation at least for now.

If you are that good you can. We've seen Japanese players signed straight from the J-League. Mohamed Salah of Chelsea is an Egyptian who was signed from small Basel in Switzerland just because they play in the champions league. Gabon's Aubameyang was signed from small St. Etienne. With all the noise we make about IK Uche you would think he would have caught the eye of bigger teams. Same goes for the likes of Emenike, Musa, even Osaze. Moses got signed by two big clubs in Chelsea and Liverpool but just couldn't compete with the quality of players there.
Thanks for the beautiful response, we just have a lot of ignorant folks on this forum, Finidi George went straight to ajax from calabar rovers then and he became the best right winger in the world, only David beckam's cross was close to Finidi's cross as at then, the day we stop celebrating mediocre players, the better for our football.

You're right. I think another way to get past this problem is to work on the psychology of our players from a young age. The average Nigerian player's highest life goal is to play abroad (anywhere will do; Europe, Asia, anywhere) and earn dollars, then hopefully play for the Super Eagles one day. Once they achieve that they've hit the glass ceiling. I think they need to look beyond that.

Our players need to aspire not just to play abroad, but to play for the top clubs in Europe. It is okay to start out in Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Belgium and the likes, but don't be satisfied with that. Aspire for more. Even if you cannot be a Ronaldo or Messi at least be a George Weah, a Finidi, an Okocha. Be among the best. And this doesn't come by just depending on the skills and talent you brought from Africa. They need to apply themselves to development. Spend more time on the training pitch. Develop your technical abilities. Free-kicks, corners, on and off the ball movement, positioning that kind of stuff. You hardly see any form of that development these days. The same Musa, Ambrose, Echiejele, Nsofor and the likes that we saw at youth level is what we still have till today. No marked improvement.

We need to pay more attention to youth development. All these "we have talents all over the streets of Nigeria" crap will take us no where. You don't develop world class talent by playing monkey post. Street soccer is high on display of skills and low on technicality. While 8-13 year old in Europe are learning technique, our own kids are playing by natural instinct.
abi o, emenike is satisfied in turkey, musa is okay in ukraine, ambrose is feeling cool in scotland, the mba people are shouting is in division 3 in france, even mikel and onazi should be thinking of greater things, obaoboana should be thinking of leaving turkey if he wants to go places while i don't know how long omeruo want to remain in the english championship. The same Musa, Ambrose, Echiejele, Nsofor and the likes that we saw at youth level were atleast their mid 20s.. how they go develop. i had the opportunity to watch some airtel future stars games and i saw really "small" boys. none of them made it to the u 17 team, instead we have clean shaven young looking men posing as boys.

The national coaches are to blame too, i remember some times last year where an American born player came to the u 17 squad and they said he failed his MRI test?! It was insulting.. just because his mum did not part with dollars. is it not the same way we lost Adebayor.

We are all part of the problem
am glad you said we all part of the problem because we are the ones putting too much pressure on these coaches not to try out new young talents, we want immediate results too quickly especially our sports journalists, imagine at the u17 level when coaches start trying out the real u17 guys and they don't win their first two games, we start criticizing their selection, tactics and management, these coaches in turn because of fear of their being sacked resort to using over age players to get quick results to satisfy the nff and general public, that is why you can see players who have been in Nigerian league for 10 years playing u-20 or u-17, this has been the bane of our football in recent years and until we begin to allow our coaches express themselves freely without threats of being sacked, we are not going anywhere.

Finally the present eagles need fresh and very young talents for every position, this should be starting point instead of clamouring for the return of old cargoes like martins, uche, osaze or yobo sef who are all close to retirement cos they can no longer be at their best for the next two years. I support the clamour for the likes of Iheanacho and other young ones, that is the way to go my brother

Omo,
grow up for real.
I don't stand to gain anything by throwing any punches as you put it.

The facts are there for everyone to see.
Yet you were the one who started attacking me.

If you cannot argue without calling names, please go and sit down somewhere.
I never called names o you were the one trying to give me a description and you are now defending yourself, maybe its that need to grow up, anyway its nice rubbing minds and if you feel offended, then am sorry but please let's not be sarcastic and let's choose our words carefully perhaps the words we used on each other were not good enough, one love brother
