Ooh keep talking bluenubian, You just made the most useful point on this thread so far. Infact, you deserve an award! tongue

Orikinla has listed not just what he believes, but with facts to support his arguments. If you cannot see that, then I'm sorry. If only you understood the English language, you'll comprehend that I was only trying to point out that what Donzman himself thinks on the subject, does not change the proven fact that Yoruba actors in Nollywood are better than their Igbo counterparts.

Your thoughts are not necesarily facts, dolt!
RomanceRe: Battered, Bruised But Still Hanging On To Your Boyfriend by goodguy(m): 9:58pm On Dec 18, 2006
If only people knew the true meaning of true love. . .  When a woman falls in love, some things she does makes her appear stupid to everyone else.

I have been following this thread even before it was put up on the home page.  I never wanted to post on this topic, but after reading replies from people, especially Radiant, I decided to leave a piece of advice.

Radiant, my advice for you is just Pray fervently that you do not fall in "real deep true love" with a wife batterer.  It is very easy for anyone to say "It can never happen to me", "He'll pay for it", etc, epecially when you're still single, and never experienced true love.  Once you're in, it's difficult to get out; and there's very little or nothing you can do about it.  You can keep on ranting and chanting about the impossibility of you sticking with such a man, but just wait till you fall victim (which I don't pray for you), then you'll know those women are not being stupid afterall.

Just my 2 kobo.
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 9:38pm On Dec 18, 2006
Donzman:
I just don't think Yoruba actors are better than their Nollywood counterparts.
What you do not understand is that your thoughts do not change that fact.

Perhaps, Olabowale didn't mean it the way you guys see it. Maybe, just maybe.
IslamRe: Why Do Muslim Men Wear Long Beards? by goodguy(op): 7:47pm On Dec 18, 2006
Olabowale, thanks for your post.

But this part got me thinking:

olabowale:
We all know that there is no record that indicate any of these previous prophets (AS), ever shaved their beard at anytime. Infact, some of them never cut his beard. Moses was a good example. Jesus was described to have long wet looking long hair and of course wearing a beard.
There is also no record that indicates that any of these prophets (as you've preferred to call them) shaved or did not shave their pubic hairs.  Perhaps, we could also follow their ways. cheesy

But seriously, the Jesus that has been described to us over the years is portrayed to have long hairs.  I will like to know if it is proper for me to keep long hairs too. huh

@Donzman, if you've been following the Christian-Muslim bashing threads on this board, you'll know why the "good Christians" here do not regard Allah as the same God we serve.  But hey, you guys can open another thread for that.  I do not want anyone spamming my thread here.  Is that clear? cool

bluenubian:
But wait, if one can become an expert flasher then the party on the other line is a stupid flasher. Right?
The other party only becomes a 'stupid flasher' when he/she flashes back and the 'expert flasher' picks up the call and deducts the money of the 'stupid flasher' before the 'stupid flasher' is able to hang up. cool
PhonesRe: Best Flasher On Nairaland by goodguy(m): 2:49pm On Dec 17, 2006
bluenubian:
U sef and u wahala, if every poster on Nairaland was like u, this place will be no fun at all.
If everyone was the same, this life will be no fun at all. wink

bluenubian:
Yes am sure we all know what flashing means, but how do u determine who is the best flasher, waddaheck?, I mean, is a "champyun" flasher determined by how fast u hang up or how quick the other party calls u back, help us out here cheesy
It is determined by:

1. How fast you hang up without allowing the other party to pick up. OR

2. How fast you hang up, even after the other party has picked up, without allowing a kobo to be deducted from your account balance. In most cases, this usually deceives the other party into calling you back (after you must have tried several time) since it'll make them believe it's some sort of network problems.

At Traffic Estimate, it says I had 70,235,000 visits in the last 30 days.  How true it this? huh
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 10:34pm On Dec 16, 2006
bluenubian, it seems you enjoy arguing, right?

bluenubian:
No am not mixing up the whole thing, I wa jus repeating what your collegues have said earlier,
The fact that you were "just repeating what my 'colleagues' said", and applying it in the wrong context alone shows that you were mixing things up.

bluenubian:
how can your leader summise that yoruba actors are better when they haven't done enough to be judged by,
Who is your leader? huh  If you're referring to Orikinla, I'll advise you start from page 1 of this thread and read through the points he raised.  He already explained why he believes Yoruba actors are better, and no one here has been able to refute his points convincingly.  Rather, all refutations directed at his points are just plain sentiments.

bluenubian:
yes we have some crappy igbo actors but the amount of good ones makes up for it. So jus cause one yoruba actors does great in one Nollywood movie now means that yoruba actors are better.
Are you sure it's this same thread you're following?  Okay, let me repeat myself:  Due to the originality, naturalism and good theatrical background that majority of Yoruba actors/actresses possess, which most Igbo actors/actresses lack seriously, the Yoruba actors/actresses perform better in any given role, since they apply these attributes to whatever they set to do, as far as acting is concerned.  Note the keyword here: "better".  It is a comparative word, not a derogatory word, as used in this context.  No one is saying Igbo actors are crappy or whatever.  And this is not about "one Yoruba actor" doing great in "one Nollywood movie".  I can't even remember anyone mentioning anything close to that on this thread.

bluenubian:
Again listen to your self before u talk
Good advise for yourself.
PhonesRe: Best Flasher On Nairaland by goodguy(m): 9:42pm On Dec 16, 2006
You can all see that this topic is under "Phones" and you're still asking which kind of flashing she's talking about (I'm now referring to those who reside in Nigeria and are very much familiar with the term "flashing").
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 9:09pm On Dec 16, 2006
Bluenubian, I'm beginning to get bored. My response to your last post will only be a repitition of what others and I have been saying on this thread. Have a nice time.
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 4:13pm On Dec 16, 2006
Now you're mixing the whole thing up.

Whoever said Baba Sala is a Nollywood actor? Read the contexts in which these people's names were mentioned on this thread. Don't just bring up points randomly to fit into your argument.

Besides, we all know English Nollywood is dominated by Igbo people. But the thread starter is saying that whenever a Yoruba actor or actress is opportuned to act in any of these English Nollywood movies, he/she always does it better than the Igbo counterparts e.g Sola Sobowale, Jide Kosoko, Bukky Ajayi, etc.

Reason? Refer back to Orikinla's post.

Okay ladies, we're not all being tribalistic. kiss

bluenubian:
your use of that stupid smiley, goodguy is ridiculous angry
Wow!  Stupid smileys on Nairaland?  Seun, see to that! grin

bluenubian:
Jus cause u call a spade a spade doesn't me u cudnt call it something else, am not being tribal,
Which other name would I want to call it, knowing fully well that is the only name it bears?

bluenubian:
Yoruba actors are "better" in Nollywood films - utter rubbish, false and should be recanted
If you had taken your time to read Orikinla's post carefully, and not allowed your tribalistic sentiments to steal away your reasoning hat, you'd have seen the reason why he said Yoruba actors are better in Nollywood films.  If after proper scrutiny of the facts made available, you do not agree with him, then you present your arguments in a likewise manner by highlighting your points meticulously on why you believe he's wrong.

One problem I have with English Nollywood movies is their very easy predictable nature.  Even from the poster, one can easily tell how the film starts and ends.  Unlike the Yoruba movies, 95% of the time, they make you stay glued to your seat and TV till the end of the show.

But at the end of the day, I still watch both English Nollywood and Yoruba Nollywood movies and I enjoy them.  Actually, I enjoy Yoruba movies more. wink

CrimeRe: Damilola Taylor's Murderers Found Guilty! by goodguy(m): 12:49pm On Dec 16, 2006
Finally, the soul of Damilola Taylor will rest in peace. This is because, the perpetrators of the gruesome murder of the Nigerian in Peckham, London on 27 November 2000 have been brought to book. On Monday 9 October, six years after the death of the 10-year-old school boy, a jury of six men and six women at the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, London found two teenage brothers guilty of the offence. Danny Preddie, 18, and Ricky Preddie, 19, from Peckham, South London were both sentenced to eight years imprisonment each for the manslaughter of Taylor, who bled to death after being stabbed in the leg with a broken bottle.

bluenubian: i saw a yoruba soap Sola sobowale was in back in the day, and she was phenomenal, but i just saw a Nollywood film she did the other day, rubbish!
She was probably acting according to the "rubbish" Nollywood script. grin

BTW, this topic seems baseless to the Igbos because it does not praise them/their talents.  If it was the other way, it would probably be the most "baseful" topic on Nairaland to them. cool

I'm the first person to re-tell the story now. I don't think it has lost even 1% of originality yet.

As for her vantage point, I expected anyone to know she didn't actually go outside. If she had gone outside, then there would have been no need to peep at all in the first place.

Seun:
Rubish of the first order. Go and tell that to the people who would have been unemployed without them.
Seun, this is only a part of the few good that Nollywood Igbo traders have done. In reality, they have done more harm. This, is Orikinla's point, I guess. grin

BlackMamba:
The fact that you claim Igbo, born and bred in Yorubaland lay no credence to your uninformed assumptions. It rather points to self hate. Reminds me of a house slave.
These are no assumptions. Orikinla deals with the Nollywood people, so I suppose he knows better than the rest of us here. Besides, you don't have to display undue tribalism especially when the truth is right there staring at you in the eyes. wink
