Christianity EtcRe: Is Atheism A Belief Or Is It Truly Religion? by goodguy(m): 7:13pm On Dec 14, 2006
KAG:
For example, when belief is used in atheism, it is akin to: I believe that the tooth fairy doesn't exist in pretty much the same way I believe my chair won't become animated and run off with me.
Anybody can make this statement. Even non-theists!
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 7:10pm On Dec 14, 2006
ThiefOfHearts:
let's not start a Ibo vs Yoruba people argument shall we

It was fine and dandy when it was just Yoruba films vs English Nolly films
But that was the intention of this thread before we all digressed. Read the topic.
Christianity EtcRe: Is Atheism A Belief Or Is It Truly Religion? by goodguy(m): 6:57pm On Dec 13, 2006
nferyn:
It is neither a belief, nor a religion. It's simply the lack of belief in God(s).
Most religious people are atheist about practically all of the thousands of deities except for the one they happen to believe in. Atheists just take it one God further.
So what exactly do atheists believe in?
Jokes EtcRe: Hearing Problem by goodguy(m): 11:05pm On Dec 12, 2006
Funny one! grin

@lauryn, it's not a story, it's a joke. the man who's complaining that his wife has problems hearing is actually the one with the problem.

Jesus Christ has rightly asserted, that He is the Only Way to God.
And what happens to those who died before Jesus came into the scene?
Christianity EtcRe: Muslims Who Have Encountered Yahushua (Jesus Christ) by goodguy(m): 6:27pm On Dec 12, 2006
Not all muslims are extremists.  You people seem to be basing your views on Islam from the extremists' perspectives only.  You are not ready to see and accept that there are more than enough muslims that are totally against what their fellow brothers are doing.  Muslims believe in the same God we believe in, even though the teachings and practises of both religions differ in so many ways.  But that still does not deny the fact they believe in the Almighty God.  That some groups of Muslims keep killing everytime does not make all muslims bad.  I personally know muslims that will never hurt a fly.

You people should learn to see the positive sides of Islam!
Nairaland GeneralRe: Is Nairaland For Sale? (Hell No!) by goodguy(m): 2:37pm On Dec 12, 2006
I remember Seun once posted on one thread that if at all he'll sell Nairaland, he'll sell for 25 billion naira so that he can start his own bank. cheesy
Christianity EtcRe: Muslims Who Have Encountered Yahushua (Jesus Christ) by goodguy(m): 2:33pm On Dec 12, 2006
mrpataki:
To answer that question, NO
Where a particular religion is used as an act of world wide terrorism is that the same God?
Perhaps, it the conception of the extremists about God that is actually wrong.  If they do not believe in a true God, they wouldn't bother "fighting for him".

I agree with twinstwaiye.

@Topic, I know of a conc Alfa, who now holds a high rank in the Christiandom.  He's now an evangelist.  He still quotes the Quran atimes when he preaches though. grin

Donzman:
You want to claim Desmond Elliot based on the fact that his dad is Yoruba
No one here is claiming Desmond Elliot. He's not a property to anyone of us. His father is yoruba, a Lagosian, and that makes Desmond Yoruba. Simple! I wonder why this should even be an issue.

Christianity EtcRe: Can You Marry Someone Who Doesn't Believe In God? by goodguy(m): 10:07pm On Dec 10, 2006
Why no? Don't you think can influence the person's belief?
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 9:08pm On Dec 10, 2006
Donzman:
Mama Ronke, where is this misinformation you speak of?, He's half Igbo, half Yoruba (check), his wife is from Akwa-Ibom(check), Akwa Ibom is basically East but people feel the need to differentiate South-South from South-East just to emphasize the different ethnic compositions. Geographically, there is no basis for that. People from Akwa Ibom have much more in common with Igbos than they do with Yorubas.

He's as much Igbo as he is Yoruba, end of story!
He married a woman from the South-East does not make him more "eastern".  He didn't marry her because she is from the South-East, he married her because he loves her.  Also, he grew up in the north, so I don't know how that makes him more "Igbo".  Besides, he's father is Yoruba, and that automatically makes him even more Yoruba.
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 7:11pm On Dec 10, 2006
Desmond is a Yoruba guy.
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 11:09pm On Dec 09, 2006
Yeah.  The first post is that of Orikinla, while the major arguments are those of Donzman and ThiefofHearts.

There are lots of Nairaland topics on that forum, but this is the first I'll be seeing that the posts of the contributors too were copied along. shocked

Did you guys notice that the topic was even created today?
Nairaland GeneralRe: Is Nairaland For Sale? (Hell No!) by goodguy(m): 11:04pm On Dec 09, 2006
That does not look like something Seun would type. Seun does not type like that, and he hardly/never makes grammatical errors.

His email ID is seun.osewa, not oluwaseun.osewa.

But then, the writer's analysis of Nairaland's statistics looks like what only the admin would know.

This is really confusing. undecided

Where's Seun? huh

I really love Yoruba epic movies too, but some scenes like those ones I described up there just bore me.

As for Babasuwe, he is getting old. I really can't blame him. In his earlier years though, he was damn too funny! cheesy
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 8:54pm On Dec 07, 2006
I guess Donzman only watches (or used to watch) those films of Abija and the witches, and those movies where they usually used those local gun powders to shoot their enemies, then the other "dusts" it and begins reciting incantations, and it goes on and on like that, till the more powerful guy defeats the other, after so many displays of "Odeshi" grin

I also do not like such yoruba movies, Donzman. I think those are the only types of Yoruba movies that I can accept English Nollywood movies are better than. cool
TV/MoviesRe: Yoruba Actors And Actresses In Nollywood Are Better? by goodguy(m): 7:44pm On Dec 07, 2006
No one is saying English Nollywood acting is horrible, only that it's not as good as the Yoruba counterpart. cool
Christianity EtcRe: The Poison Called Prosperity by goodguy(m): 7:33pm On Dec 07, 2006
Once again, I think I have to agree with Grouppoint here. . from this part:

Grouppoint:
If these were not the real issues of the day, the messages would not have been valid.

In Europe and US, a preacher cannot expect to dwell too much on healing message when God has already provided adequate hospitals and doctors.

So it follows that If the Nigerian and American prosperity preachers do a good job, it means many people will become prosperous, and when the average Nigerian becomes well to do, the message of propsperity will become less relevant.

I think I agree with Grouppoint here.
Christianity EtcRe: Celestial Church of Christ: Your Experience And Opinion by goodguy(m): 10:30pm On Dec 06, 2006
Have you guys heard the latest gist in town now about CCC?

There's this guy actually, 14 years old to be precise, who has been performing miracles (God has been using him), like healing the sick, making the blind see, etc since he was 6yrs old.  He is from the Republic of Benin.  He was not born into the Celestial fold, neither did anyone of his family members attend CCC.  But while growing up, his ways and stlye of living were/are totally in line with that of CCC.  He's now a CCC member, but only a "Brother".

Could this be the person Oshoffa talked about before he died?  Remember Oshoffa said, before he died, that no one should fight for the Pastorial position of the church, that the Holy Spirit will appoint the right person by himself and this person is going to be a very young man.  He also predicted before he died that the person that will be chosen by the Holy Spirit will do greater things than he himself (Oshoffa) did while he was alive.

Already, people, even top elders of the church are referring to this young boy as "Baba"/"Papa", even though he's only a "Brother" (the lowest rank in the CCC fold).
Christianity EtcRe: The Poison Called Prosperity by goodguy(m): 9:20pm On Dec 06, 2006
Salvation to a sick man is relief from that sickness. Salvation to a barren woman is the ability to bear a child. Likewise, salvation to a poor man is prosperity.

There's nothing wrong in preaching about prosperity, only it shouldn't be emphasized more than other areas that are affecting other people, since it's not everyone that's poor.

If at all it should be emphasized on, other areas should be emphasized equally as well.

IslamRe: Why Do Muslim Men Wear Long Beards? by goodguy(op): 11:04pm On Dec 05, 2006
ThiefOfHearts:
Here's a question, what's the difference between Muslims getting pissed off at a cartoon making fun of Muhammed and Catholics going ape-crazy (even Frank Sinatra threatened to slap her the next time he were to see her)when Sinead O'Connor tore up a picture of the pope?

By all means please tell me the difference, keep in mind Sinead actually had a legitimate reason for what she did.
Here's a question:  Which one of the two incidents attracted violence, even outside of the country where it happened, that eventually led to the loss of hundreds (or thousands??) of lives?

mukina2:
yeah thats the christians maybe they enjoy it when someone ridicules them but we don't . .and we would do all we can to stop it . .
No one enjoys being ridiculed.  But then, we mustn't show our dissatisfaction through violence.
IslamRe: Why Do Muslim Men Wear Long Beards? by goodguy(op): 10:56pm On Dec 05, 2006
mukina2:
i know more than enough to call myself a muslim . .but it seems you but hey never mind . .
The comment you made here contradicts this very one. You cunningly admitted that you really do not know much about the practises of Islam because it's more about men, and that you are a woman. But here, in your attempt to bring me down, you are saying the opposite. It's all good.

mukina2:
even if what i posted as you said didnt satisfy your requirements . .didnt you have to be more .well anyways its all good . .
I didn't have to be more what?

Okay.
IslamRe: Why Do Muslim Men Wear Long Beards? by goodguy(op): 7:43pm On Dec 05, 2006
mukina2:
no offence intended but i saw this topic on an islamic forum
If you're implying that I got this topic from an Islamic forum, then you're greatly mistaken.

mukina2:
i think this was what the poster was looking for . .
Honestly, this is not what the poster was looking for.  He innocently asked the question out of curiousity after reading some posts made by babyosisi and Olabowale concerning beard keeping on the page 2 of the thread, "The bounties of Jannat".  I do not attack Muslims, I never do.  If there's anywhere on this forum where I attacked any Muslim, as regards this issue of religion, please let me know, and I'll apologize.

It is true that I only wanted to know why Muslim men wear long beards, but after reading your replies, I felt the reasons were not reasonable enough, and that was why I asked for the significance.

Even from the "significance" you supposedly posted on the previous page still failed to highlight the significance of beard keeping, but only mentioned why it should be kept -- because the Prophet did so.  Why did the Prophet do so?  You have failed to answer this question, and this still keeps me more curious than ever. It seems to me no one of the Muslim men really knows why, yet all blindly follow. I actually find that preposterous, sorry to say.

If you do not have the answer to my question and you humbly accept that you really do not know, I'll understand.  Even I do not have all the answers to all Christian practises.

One more thing:
b) Some people argue that to trim the beard (to an unlawful extent) or to shave is only a minor sin.

One should always keep in mind that no sin can be dismissed, nor can one say that minor sins do not affect a persons outcome in the hereafter. A sin, no matter what it is, is still a sin and only Allah can forgive sins.
Why should sin be associated at all with beard keeping? huh
