Politics / Re: Why Is The Obama Visit 'historic'? by gReenmAn(m): 9:45am On Apr 14, 2010
Ben-10:

The only interesting part of the visit is the POWER Crisis solution Mr Goodluck seeks from the USA and World Bank.

Every other things about the visit is normal. All Nigerian president has visited American leaders during their time and vice visa.

. . . oh. . . so there IS something different about the visit after all,
just the little matter of calling it HISTORIC bothers folks.

Instructive.

Good reporting but a tad marred by the Nigerian Sacred Cow Syndrome-
or why else should some peoples' names be mentioned while others are simply referred to as ex this or that.

The report is even afraid to mention a political party by its name! as if we all don't know its PDP being referred to. undecided

This baba is skilled and quite adept at recreating these Brazilian-type carnival costumes.

BUT, as already been pointed out by several posters,
the costumes would be much much better if they had Lagos or even Nigerian themes.
That would be creative and original!

Music/Radio / Re: What Do U Think About Gospel Rap? by gReenmAn(m): 4:24pm On Mar 31, 2010

i think gospel rap draws inspiration from wordly music, the origin of rap is from the street and gangsters, so i dont like listening to them,if i want spiritual or christain songs i know wat to listen to,if am fasting i cant be listening to such, its as good has am not fasting. i beleive they are confused, they dont know where to belong, they are trying to be abit gospel and a bit wordly, arstiste like bouqui, rooftop mc's,dekunle fuji e.tc am not sure soul are been saved by this so called gospel rap, thats my submission
)

Rap is just one out of so many genres of music. Each one, whether secular or gospel, appeals to different individuals for different (mostly unexplainable) reasons, the origin of a particular genre of music is not usually one of those reasons one will be surprised at the REAL origins of spirituals, soul and a host of other music types.
Regarding choice of music for specific activities; while you wouldn't listen to rap while fasting or in a solemn mood, so also will you not listen to slow hymns or Blues while jogging or doing fast energetic work, it wont jive.

For me, I have a fine collection of Gospel Rap, Reggae Gospel (Christafari et al), Country Gospel (Jim Reeves et. al) and- wait for it - Gospel Rock! (DC Talk), and I enjoy them all, at the right time.

that, coupled with the fact that he IS an outsider makes his utterances totally undesirable.

Family / Re: Between Husband And Wife, Who Should Greet The Other First In The Morning? by gReenmAn(m): 10:40am On Mar 31, 2010
Ordinarily, it shouldn't matter who greets whom first.

But being Africans (remember the topic focuses on Africans), we were brought up to show respect for our elders and our heads/leaders.
In the African  (and Christian) context, the husband is regarded as head of the home, and greeting is one of the foremost visible forms of showing respect (in all cultures) .

It therefore follows that the African woman will show respect to the husband by greeting him (first).

Caveat:
The above scenario definitely excludes the non-African woman, the wannabe Oyibo Naija babe, the disillusioned & disgruntled wife and the unAfricanised African woman.

This is my humble submission. wink

Okpalla also said that 236,613 cases of examination malpractices were discovered in the examinations.

On the average, ALL the candidates committed exam malpractice more than once! Nigeria is really in trouble.
Music/Radio / Re: 2face Idibia – Implication (brand New) by gReenmAn(m): 9:41am On Dec 14, 2009
I 've seen some people commenting that 2face has to stay locked on his genre of music to win a Grammy.
Winning a Grammy is not a bad idea, but I ask myself if that should be the ultimate aspiration of every musician all over the world.
My answer is NO! Grammy is prestigious, so also are many other awards around the globe.
Just because Americans rate it the highest music award does not mean it IS the highest music award.
Lets stop this nonsense about glorifying everything American just because the American media says so.

On the music itself, I think 2face did a good job on the track.
You may call the sound Techno, Elctric, or Dance Hall (as someone opined), I think it is a welcome radical deviation from the so called Classic 2face music. He has succeeded in pepping his usual repertoire with something foreign to the usual Naija flavour, and I say he is bold for the attempt.
And luckily for him, the total effect is awesomely Nigerian despite that "foreign" electro-metallic influence.

Even though I had lately come to rate the guy low on my how-to-be-a-role-model score card, I must give him the accolades on this track. Hate him or love him, the guy is a natural music man.

A friend once said in Ajegunle,if u have 1 room,u are a king,
reason being, there are some ppl that lives in a room with 8 to 10 occupants

Odd way of life!

I wonder why you all are acting surprised.
You need to visit naija every now and then and explore areas beyond your normal sphere,

most Naija men see no big deal in keeping several wives under one roof.

Autos / Caution. Error In Toyota Floor Mats Can Cause Accident by gReenmAn(m): 9:49am On Sep 30, 2009
"A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop a vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death,"
The recall will affect 2007-2010 model year Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Toyota Avalon, 2004-2009 Toyota Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Toyota Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS250 and IS350.
The Japanese automaker warned owners that if they think their vehicle is accelerating out of control, they should check to see whether their floor mat is under the pedal. If a driver can't remove the floor mat, Toyota advises drivers to step on the brake pedal with both feet until the vehicle slows and then try to put it into neutral and switch the ignition to accessory power.

This is a caution for all Toyota users.
I drive a 1999/2000 model Camry, which is currently one of the most popular cars in the country, and I have experienced this accelerator error.
Business / Re: New Naira Notes! Arabic Is The Reason? by gReenmAn(m): 11:49am On Sep 23, 2009
Oh, so Naira notes no long spot arabics on them.
For the life of me, I didn't notice it's been removed.

I am sure I would've noticed if the removal either devalues or "upvalues" the naira.
But since it did neither, Sanusi can inscribe Chinese ideograms on them for all I care,
it will still take about 250 bloody naira to get 1 british pound angry
