Politics / Re: EFCC Acting On Debtors: What About Wonder Bank Victims? by gReenmAn(m): 2:38pm On Aug 27, 2009
@babaearly, That is what you could have said not telling someone to shut up online, when you don't know him and when his making sense here but believe me they know where they live. They can find them, they know them and where they are but because nobody to fight for us, nobody to speak no one to say it, that is why you see it like that, Imagine a group of organization advertised both on radio, television stations and news paper end up in hanging people's money for years and no action, I think Government should have little feelings for people's under them,

I don't believe the victims know where the scammers live.

Trust me, they would be dead meat by now,
either through physical or spiritual means.

Politics / Re: Do You Approve Of Lamido Sanusi's Actions? by gReenmAn(m): 2:17pm On Aug 27, 2009
Some of us non bankers and non-financial gurus already feel giddy from all the high tech banking jargons been thrown around in this thread.
But still, from the point of view of someone who lives in Naija and has seen these games played over and over again,
Sanusi's actions reeks of good ole hidden agenda.

No doubt the 5 bank's are not operating above level, but you don't kill a fly with a sledge hammer.
Above all there are laid down procedures for taking actions against corporate entities (like banks) as already stated in this thread.

The really freakishly scary part is that all these  actions by Sanusi had been predicted by some papers about 3 months ago.
All the correct grammar in this world cannot erase the asphyxiating smell of conspiracy surrounding this appalling high handedness.

Yes, thank you, I know my contribution sounds pedestrian coming after all the above display of banking lexicon.

But still, if all these Sanusi apologists where somehow out to convince just only me, then they have an arduous uphill task.
What the wise sees while sitting on a stool cannot be observed by haughty ones standing on a tree cool

Nairaland / General / As Nigeria Ends Deal With Virgin Atlantic- Suggest New Name For National Carrier by gReenmAn(m): 10:02am On Aug 26, 2009

By Simon Ateba

Nigeria’s flag carrier, Virgin Nigeria Airways, has announced that it has signed a Technical Service Agreement (TSA) with Ethiopian Airlines. The new Technical Service Agreement with Ethiopian Airline effectively ends the technical partnership between Virgin Nigeria and Virgin Atlantic Airlines.

A statement by Francis Ayigbe, the airlines Corporate Communications Manager, disclosed that the partnership will cover Training, Maintenance and Resource Pooling.

Ayigbe said that this signals a major boost in technical cooperation among African Airlines. Virgin Nigeria joins South African Airways already in partnership with Skywards and El Al Israel Airlines.

The signing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by Mr. Girma Wake, Managing Director of Ethiopian Airline and Capt. Dapo Olumide, Chief Executive Officer, Virgin Nigeria Airways, signals the cementing and commencement of Technical Partnership between both Airlines.

Another wild goose chase.

What will be the name of the new national carrier, certainly, Virgin Nigeria is no longer tenable.

I suggest DisVirgined Nigeria Airways. tongue

Other suggestions?
Business / Re: How To Report A Cheating Petrol Station? by gReenmAn(m): 1:18pm On Aug 20, 2009
In my area at Alagbado Lagos. The major culprit is the Oandol Petrol Station almost opposite the Alakuko Police Station, all their fuel dispensers have been adjusted to cheat patrons.

On this particular day, I forgot to by fuel at my usual station and decided to patronize them. N850 fuel usually fills my Jerry-can to the brim, that has been the case for over two years since I started using the container.
But it got just a little above the halfway line when I bought from that station. I felt the attendant did not erase the last sales from the meter before dispensing for me. I took it up with her and I asked for the Manager. I asked them to empty the can into my car after marking the level of the fuel. We all watched while the container was refilled for the same amount. Lo and behold it got to exactly the same level. I had to leave there embarrassed.

Just to re assure myself that I wasn't wrong, I went to my regular station the next day to buy with the same container, and I felt justified when the container was filled to the brim at the same cost.

As a rule of thumb, I have learnt never to patronize any filling station that commercial vehicles do not flock to in large numbers. The yellow buses' patronage is a sure indicator that the station dispenses accurately. These buses, by the nature of their business in Lagos state know all the crooked petrol stations and will avoid them like rabid dogs.

No truer words said.

It's the trend in Naija. Most people would want to make an extra buck outside of their pay package.
Right from the topmost government functionary to the lowliest epa (groundnut) seller.
Anyone who has a service or product to offer will try their utmost to hoodwink you.

“Its so funny some people are talking about English usage, prose and all sorts. . . Shocked

Have you forgotten that these were first generation Nigerian soldiers who were trained in the UK? Huh The best crop of them Nigeria ever produced, they learnt directly from the master not NDA FYI. So were they trained with pidgin English or vernacular? Guess there are too many kids on NL these days. . .

I can bet many of you didn't know we once had Pounds and Shillings as our currency in Nigeria . . . You definitley never knew we once drove on the LHS of the road like in the UK . . .You never knew that Europeans in their thousands used to travel to Lagos carnival in their summer, yes! right here in Nigeria. . .You probably didnt know Calabar was once capital of the nation as well amongst other things.

Why don't you cure your ignorance by:

Asking your lecturer . . . Oh ASUU is on strike
Consult archives in the public library . . .Do we really have? or NEPA
Go online and search for archives. . . .I'd rather facebook or twit or NL or NEPA
Ask Dad, Mum, Uncle or Aunt. . . .They are in the Senate/Rep far away in Abuja

I'm simply going to give up on you.

@ nues aweso

You seem to forget we still have some of these " first generation Nigerian soldiers who were trained in the UK" among us.
I never heard OBJ, Babangida, TY Danjuma et al speak such flowery english.
Certainly not Abacha who was also a contemporary of both Ironsi and Fajuyi.

No doubt, such Shakespearean dialogue was concocted by trained professionals.

By the way I see no need for the attempt at re writing this part of history, because the majority of
right thinking and progressive Nigerians laready regard Fajuyi and Ironsi as heroes.

These Nigerian leaders stole lots and lots of money no doubt.

But for these billions of UK pounds and US Dollars cash to be stolen by individuals?
Ehn-ehn, it's too far fetched.

The authenticity of that list should be investigated.

Billion pounds no be mai-mai.
They would have Fortune list of world richest (crooks).

I'll say Mofe and Moyo on Daily Guide weekday mornings.

But those two do go off beat every now and then, saying not-so-appropriate things on air,
But sha, they're still the ones I must listen to every morning.

Then there is Nanya Dialli Rythm FM, I love his poise(?) and sense of humor.

The Wild Child would also make my list of best presenters, only I don't know where
that brother is at these days.

You, just like me, are mere by standers when it comes to election in Nigeria. Your vote counts only if you vote for the party with stronger rigging capabilities.

Politics / Re: "abacha Was A Student Of School Of Assassins" ? by gReenmAn(m): 4:20pm On Jun 08, 2009
No. That's poor deductive reasoning on your part.
Central America has been infamous for armed revolution, insurgency and counter insurgency in the past. Most of these actions have had career army officer in the starring role. Now since a large amount of these officers have been trained in Fort Benning, the odds are you'll find Fort Benning graduates implicated in many of these human rights violation cases.

To my "poor deductive" mind, the above statement is akin to saying:
Since 419 is almost always masterminded by Nigerians, especially people from the Lagos area from shady corner cybercafes,
odds are if you are a Nigerian, and are internet savvy and has ever lived in the Lagos area, you are most likely a 419er!

Think! That description fits a million and ten Nigerians. Just like you have over 50,000 Southern and Central American officers who passed through the school; they all are NOT coupists.

Again, generalizing is unfair to the innocents.

Politics / Re: "abacha Was A Student Of School Of Assassins" ? by gReenmAn(m): 3:25pm On Jun 08, 2009
Don't be naive. What are the odds that thousands of career army officers from South and Central American countries would be trained in a school and many of them would not turn out to be coup plotters/tyrants?

There's no naivety here.

Someone being South or Central American does not automatically infer they must be coup plotters.
That is a wildly unreasonable generalization, racial profiling if you like!
Politics / Re: Oau Appoints Sunny Ade As A University Lecturer. by gReenmAn(m): 1:17pm On Jun 08, 2009
For your information v3nom4eva

KSA speaks good English. I once listened to his responses during a live interview session.
(Just the way I was shocked when I listened to Gani Adams speak, I never associated him with a classroom!)

This is something good though: the prophets are beginning to get honoured in their homeland.
Politics / Re: "abacha Was A Student Of School Of Assassins" ? by gReenmAn(m): 1:10pm On Jun 08, 2009
I just googled "School Of Assassins" and came up with some astonishing results.

Number 1: The school actually exists!

Here's a cryptic analyses of the school and its alumni:

2. The School of the Americas (SOA) is a military training school for Latin American soldiers. SOA is an official program of the U.S. government, funded by the government and run by the U.S. Armed Forces since 1946. SOA graduates have long been implicated in terrorism, human rights violations, coercion, and atrocities committed against civilian populations across Latin America.

3. What do Col. Byron Lima Estrada of Guatemala, Lt. Josê Espinoza Guerra and General Juan Orlando Zepeda, both of El Salvador, and General Juan López Ortiz of Mexico have in common?

And what do Panama's Manuel Noriega, Argentina's Leopoldo Galtiere, Peru's Juan Velasco Alvarado, Ecuador's Guillermo Rodriguez, and Bolivia's Hugo Banzer have in common? They have all been dictators in their countries, and they were all trained at the School of the Americas. Because of them, and others, many people call the U.S. Army's School of the Americas the "School of Coups." They are all murderers. They were all trained at the School of the Americas. Because of them, and because of thousands of others like them, many people call U.S. Army's School of the Americas the "School of Assassins." cry
