(Updates with rebel comment in second paragraph.)

Nov. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Nigeria’s main militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, said its fighters blew up a pipeline that supplies crude to the country’s Warri Refinery.

The attack on the link to the 125,000-barrel-a-day refinery took place on Nov. 21, Jomo Gbomo, a spokesman for the group known as MEND, said in an e-mailed statement today. The “attack and similar attacks on pipelines which will take place within the next few days” are to show “the futility of wasting the nations resources in combating militancy without addressing the underlying causes of agitation in the Niger Delta.”

A pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. was sabotaged, Levi Ajuonuma, a spokesman for the state- owned energy company, said yesterday without giving details on the operations of the refinery. Nigeria is the fifth-largest source of U.S. oil imports.

The southern Niger delta, which is home to nation’s oil and gas industry, has been hit by a surge of violence in recent months after a period of relative calm that followed a government amnesty in 2009 and the disarming of thousands of militant fighters. In response to the attacks, the Nigerian army ordered an offensive against rebels last week.

The pipeline that supplies crude to the plant in Warri is also the source of oil for the refinery in the northern city of Kaduna. The 110,000-barrel-a-day Kaduna refinery is operating after a minor glitch, Ajuonuma said.

Fuel Imports

Nigeria’s four state-run oil refineries are producing at about 30 percent of capacity, the Department of Petroleum Resources that oversees the country’s oil and gas industry said on Nov. 15. Africa’s biggest crude producer relies on fuel imports for more than 70 percent of its domestic needs, according to the Petroleum Ministry.

MEND says it is fighting for local control of oil revenue by the ethnic minorities of the delta, alleging domination by Nigeria’s majority ethnic groups.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp., Total SA and Eni SpA run joint ventures with NNPC that pump most of the West African nation’s oil.

For me this is what happens when Muslims fail to follow the proper ways Islam states. In this case you are not to reserve any such space for anybody if not the Imam and possibly the persons directly behind him.For this persons is not even reserved is just to make sure a learned group(4 persons directly behind him in the first row). Just incase Imam needs to swap. For you to get the first row position, Islam require you come earlier than others period.About reserving space in the mosque as i know,Is not Islamic. If the thugs are there first, the Deputy Governor should get another free place period. The responsibility of a true Muslim Leader is living by example. If you need front row come early next time. undecided

Imams take note and tell them all this political criminals you keep giving relevance and allowing the humiliate the average Muslim. For the thugs i can't see there hearts. If they came to cause trouble that is for them and Allah. If it is to worship then you can't come and ask them to clear space for you. undecided

That's the downside of marrying a Northern Muslim. You have to convert to Islam and people will not even know where you're really from.
Not so true.I know some of my relatives that are interfaith and everyone retains his faith.lies you speak i believe. Its not all and for the fairness of the issue i also know of a similar treatment in the reverse with xtians.
What xtians who even do bad things to there spouse or relatives in the name of deliverance.like this Igbo man and his Igbo wife whom he killed because he believed she was possessed.Tied and tortured her to death. He left the house and allowed her Rot in the room until family members on a visit found her. Both were xtians. He believes she religiously deserve the treatment he gave her. What he obviously was thought to do,cast em out undecided
Moreover i believe if people know about there beliefs they would understand there is no compulsion but you are free to spread the word.many atimes people in other to feel among or winning become desperate and resort to treats and othe.I think that is bad

Wrong and no thanks to your thinking like a typical xtian fanatic towards a Muslim angry. As Muslims we are required to pray for our parents while they are alive and after they are gone. One of such prayer request is for Allah to forgive them when they sin and have mercy upon them shocked. As Muslims when you loose someone especially a parent. You are reminded to keep praying for Allah to forgive and reward them with mercy. As such deeds reaches them where they maybe and they are told this person still remembers you in prayers.what else can a the dead ask in prayers than to have God forgiveness and mercy. huh
My Prayer is for her as a mother and the parents we all have.

What led to the attempted secession was the genocide already committed across the country.Reason was because Igbo officers were involved in a coup.Is it justified?
The killing may not be justified but when you take an instance that today another tribe, say a Kano man comes and lynch the Alaafin of Oyo.My brother if i dey Oyo, shocked I go dey run towards the Northern part of Nigeria fast.we all know that a leader of a people is regarded by his people.check the relationship between Nzweogu Kaduna and Sarduana Ahmadu Bello and tell me if that silly idiot can have the audacity to wake up and snuff life out of him and still do same to his poor wife.what for? angry

You do that again it sure gonna happen anywhere anyhow. It maybe wrong but it is human.USA because of al qaida single attack on WTC it gladly has invaded two countries and the world is saying they started it.Israel has two soldiers kidnapped and yes behold Israel proudly snuffed the life out of over a 1500 Lebanese.Didn't mean to be rude especially to people who have lost there loved ones.It remains a fact this are the true causes and consequences of conflicts where diplomacy and dialogue fails.

Politics › Re: "Do Not Vote For A Muslim President" - Pastor Paul Adefarasin by hakanai(m): 10:23am On Nov 18, 2010
Me sef:
I laugh at people who disclaim religious bigotry. It does exist in Nigeria and any sincere person will know.

We cannot over-emphasize the fact that the Hausa/Fulani muslims are the political bigwigs in Northern Nigeria and by extension the whole country Nigeria. It is not an accident that they are muslims and also politically relevant.

People who referenced Fashola as an exceptional muslim to justify the non-existence of religious bigotry are very ignorant of the hidden political qualifications for the office of the Governor of Lagos State. Tinubu once confirmed to the chagrin of many that Lagos cannot be governed by a xtian when he mentioned at a forum sometime duting his tenure as Governor that he is certain that he will not hand-over to a Christian. In case many do not know, the politics of the office of the Gorvernor of Lagos state is coloured by religion. From Epe to Ikorodu to Lagos Island etc where Lagos indigenes have their roots, majority are muslims and as their religion dictates, they should never allow a "Keferi" (i.e. non muslims like xtians) rule them. So as it is in Northern Nigeria, so also it is in Lagos State. Otedola happened to be an elected xtian Governor of Lagos State by proxy because Agbalajobi and Sarumi (both muslims) fought dirty and disintegrated their partyu SDP to the favour of Otedola's NRC.

We have only had an elected Christian President (OBJ) in Nigeria by what the Hausa/Fulani folks describe as a mistake that they forever regret. Christians should wake up and challenge this staus quo as Adefarasin has said. The time is ven now.
Please correct me if i am wrong again, how many state is there in the largely xtian states, muslims govern them.Okay let me answer that negligiable.while you are at it complaining you should know that it happens exactly also in largely (when i say about 90%) xtian states.foolishly people only want to emphasis the muslims only.fix yours first.okay i know what you will be thinking,God forbid! i know we all(muslims and xtians) have then. grin That is why even when activities are staged in some xtian states we see only xtain activities or ways being used for the public activities.pls don tell me there are no muslims abeg.Your are as fanatic as the muslims.you are not secular and have never supported it really only when it fits you. grin
