People always get this things wrong flare up over issues that need understanding and sincere judgement.First it would be horribly wrong to think the Beroms are innocent and it will also be wrong to think the fulanis have a right to revenge there own way.
Above all here is my opnion,Berom stop touching the fulani nomads and cows ooo!!!I believe that will go a long way in checking the revenge attacks, that is non proportional.
Sorry to say this, no amount of organising and counter plot by the beroms will settle this until they all respect there peace pledge.Always before such fulani attacks,it is after a Berom aggression.Thought the fulani do more damage, but after they were attacked first.when they Berom say peace they should mean it. not the type they air and later go on to do secret killings and plotting.Obvioulsy the fighting amongst Berom and the hausa's have stopped but continued with the fulani.reason ?the hausas are in town and do town Biz,avoiding hostile areas.whilst the fulani still roam, grazing and when this meat hungry berom militia see a vulnerable fulani with cow, they jump him.chow the cow and kill him to hide there actions. The fulani somehow get to know and as usual take on any possible target with in there range that will send a message.we no greeeee!!!! shocked
For the fulani i don't know where you get your temper and revenge method from but it got me scared.Abeg in the name of God spare them children, for the women i doubt they are innocent.have you even seen Berom militia in action?Na there women dey front and they a quite ruthless.I know cos i witness em killing someone(muslim-Nasarawa state) before my eyes.Forget the woman weak thing. In any crisis in Plateau, there women actively take part.
In my secondary school days in Plateau we once had a problem with a community of berom. After they mobbed and detained our students.Students insisted they released students they were lynching. The community turned to attack the school and i saw koro koro death in the face.I see plenty plenty women except for the elderly and children chanting and encouraging the armed Berom youths to hack us down.It took Government intervention.
Lets be sincere the Berom know wetin they do and the fulanis know what they want to do.Let me tell you there is nothing the two can do except come and settle where everyone understand the language of geniue peace.
O God help the real peace makers not the ones that run to media with sharp propaganda!!!!

Jonathan Stop Killing your own people

I watch with unbridled disdain how the so called JTF full of Northerners are prosecuting the Norths agenda of annihilation in the name of ensuring peace in Niger Delta and taming the militants.

Jonathan should ask himself some questions like,How many islamic militants that have been killing so called "infidels" have ever been brought to book or jailed in the history of Nigeria when the North were in power.

He should know that if this continues,he would have no support in the home front.
Talk of the oil resources the JTF is protecting, the so called oil and gas companies have the Northerners as most of their directors and own the OIL BLOCS .

Jonathan should be warned

I am really impressed with your effort. But words alone are not enough, there has to be a concrete and apolitical vehicle that people can key into. I hope you have considered the full scope of the issues involved.
Aside from a select few, the older generation is locked into its ways and not ready for a new country based on regional equity, generousity and love.

I too am a bit tired of the sort of ugly Nigerian atmosphere that makes me, as a Niger Deltan, want to give a big black eye to core Northerners.

So whats the bigger plan? Its got to involve some sort of umbrella association and smaller sub-associations. A thread on NL is a start, but not even near enough.

In the meantime, forget about the directionless dialogue you are having with Blazay (that would be the first sign of steadfastness).
I can assure you out there in the north there are people who would want a stronger bond with others in the country. The tone and rhetoric must reduce to allow such views of trust project beyond the call for fighting and struggling for only regional dominance(mostly by relevance seekers aka elites & politicians).A portion of the country can not be ruled by the other without its consent.so i believe for a peaceful Nigeria we all have a duty for the sake of the larger population and the generations ahead to give peace a chance. sad
I believe a starting point has being and it is you and I.A step by the various youth(AYC,AYF,IYC etc under the youth summit) platforms for the different regions,is gaining momentum and will foster better understanding. They need encouragement.lets snatch the control of this country form the old goons who amongst the older generation find it hard to realize Nigeria's potential. It is gradual but certainly it will come and change is inevitable. We can never continue this way.
My brother you can start by counting me as your first brother from the north.that will respect your views like any other for the right to what is yours and for the progress of Nigeria as a whole.this is my own word and promise i hope others do same and lets see how this will grow and shatter the nonsense walls that set us apart. shocked

Consensus cadidate not collective agreement of the North –Shettima

National President Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) Yerima Shettima is an activist with a cause. In this no holds barred interview with Senior Correspondent, Daniel Kanu, he speaks on the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the Northern consensus candidate, Nigeria leadership under President Goodluck Jonathan, the problem with Nigeria and the need for a national conference among other national issues.

Let’s start with the latest political issue, the emergence of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as the Northern consensus candidate

For the record to be put straight before Nigerians, the situation on the emergence of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, let it be known to Nigerians that what happened was not a collective agreement of the North, it is some clique in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who just did their normal political arithmetic under the leadership of Alhaji Adamu Ciroma and that cannot be a Northern candidate. We knew all that transpired, there was no wide consultation especially with the youths. We must be contacted when sensitive issues concerning governance are raised because this is our time. We need to put the records straight that, yes, they have a right to do what they did as PDP members. Most of them are aggrieved members of the PDP and they have a right to go out of their way to have a consensus within themselves and come out with a candidate but the person cannot be said to be our candidate as far as we the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum and other progressive minded groups in the north are concerned. That is our position on that issue; it is a clique interest. We will soon make our position known on what we feel and what we want Nigeria to be, how we want it to be, who should pilot the affairs of this country and all that. We will make those positions known very soon.

Most Nigerians are worried that the northern youths are only condemning the elders but are not coming up with any alternative in terms of presenting an acceptable name of their choice?

If you look at our antecedents, we are not mostly politically inclined. Some of us on the other hand are basically engaging ourselves more in defending the interest of the average northerner as well as people from other regions too, when it becomes necessary, based on the situation on ground. But having said that, it is also very important for us to be seen getting involved with the political issue so that we can arrive at something more meaningful not only for the north but for Nigeria as well. We said there is no point to be in a hurry because there are so many people involved, Babangida is involved, Gusau is involved, Bukola Saraki, Atiku, Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto state, Nuhu Ribadu and Bugaje including others. So for us, it will be untimely to make the type of decision you are talking about until after wide consultations have been made. That is where we have a problem with Ciroma’s committee because the consultation was not wide. We cannot tolerate selfish interest. Infact, Ciroma should not be seen as championing the northern interest because they had the opportunity to have made the north better than it is today but they wasted it. It is painful that people like Ciroma that had the opportunity and blew it, still want to provide a roadmap. They don’t expect to come today and give us a road map on how to have a better north or a better Nigeria when they were the people that put us in this mess. Anybody who wants to come out today to speak for the North must be people of integrity that are trusted, it is based on that credibility that they will be accepted. As I speak with you, we are also making our own consultations quietly then we shall work side by side with our southern colleagues so that at the end we will arrive at having a Pan Nigerian candidate that will be acceptable to the majority. We feel very bad on the arrival of their consensus candidate because we all know what Obasanjo government was like and Atiku was part of it. Some people will tell you that ‘oh, he was just a spare tyre’ but even being a spare tyre, if he had stood his ground to tell Obasanjo that ‘look I cannot be part of this mess to destroy Nigeria’ then resign. Atiku did not resign from the government, so he has to take responsibility for failure.

He was heading the workings of BPE, what happened to the Nigerian property? That government was more corrupt than any other government in the country and Atiku was part and parcel of it. Do we wait for the same thing, the same damage to repeat itself again under Atiku? Do we want him to get there and do his own worst before we begin to know that they do not mean well for this country.

Some critics have accused Atiku of being politically inconsistent in terms of always changing political platform…

(Cuts in) But that is true. Atiku has been consistently inconsistent, jumping from one party to the other and that is not the quality of a good leader. If somebody is called a hero or a warrior, what is expected of a warrior is to remain very consistent. Even if he is being defeated, he keeps fighting but not to compromise at one time and claim to be democrat at another time. It is not that a warrior wins every battle but the warrior needs to be consistent, stay on and refuse to retreat. He has been jumping from one party to another as if he is the only candidate qualified to rule Nigeria. Leadership is given by God; it’s not by force or by being so desperate. Once a person becomes desperate about power you can be rest assured that if he gets there, he will abuse that power. Atiku is desperate for power. I just know from experience and from the books I have read about leadership that you don’t fight for power if you are sincere. Anybody you see fighting for power by all means, always make bad leaders when it is finally given. He is a Moslem and he knows what I am talking about. Anybody desperate for power has certain motives behind it.

You talk as if you are angry with the northern leaders?

Of course I am very angry because despite the fact that the north has been at the helm of affairs in terms of the presidency, can you really say the years of leadership by the north positively touched the lives of northerners? No. My people still constitute the largest army of beggars in the land, so what did we gain? Some have been reduced to maiguards and okada riders. The average northerner benefitted nothing from the long rule.

I was accused of being very controversial in my various interviews for over a decade now, I have suffered so many detentions because of my views on some national issues. I fel that even when some people don’t see reasons with me, gradually they are beginning to see reasons with me. One of the reasons I came into the limelight was as a result of, a kind of dichotomy between the north and south and our organisation came out to ensure that there is a bridge between the North and the South and we succeeded in doing that. In our studies recently, we have discovered that most of the geneses of this problem are not the misgivings between the north and south, but basically about poor leadership that we have had over the years. And the thought of every southerner is that a brother of yours have been in government for over 30 years out of the 50 years and they have assumed that what do you want again after they have taking all that belongs to Nigeria to the north, but it is not so. Yes, our brothers have handled power more, nobody is disputing that fact but then there is nothing to show for it in the life of the average northerner. The issue of poverty, issue of illiteracy, backwardness, and the environment we are talking about today in the north was not properly put in place. There is environmental degradation in the north and that is why we have the issue of polio. So we have every good reason to reject them now because we have come of age. We will insist on giving our people a hope for a change. What we need now in Nigeria and not about north or south. What we should be talking about is good governance irrespective of where you come from.

Do you think that President Goodluck Jonathan can provide that good governance?

Not at all, I don’t see anything good about Jonathan looking at those behind him. It is still the same new wine in old bottle. He too is not consistent. The day he just came up, he had the opportunity to do things right but he refused to do it because he is waiting for somebody who he will take orders and advice from. With the likes of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo around him, I don’t think Jonathan has anything new to offer to Nigerians. You will agree with me at the end of his tenure that Jonathan has nothing fresh to give Nigerians. How can we borrow experience and advice from failures? People who failed their generation to come and fail us again, no. This is my problem with Jonathan rather than taking people with good reputation to work with him, he is rather going the other way, so now what makes him different from Obasanjo, nothing. We were fighting Obasanjo on principles and Jonathan is gradually joining in that past mistake. I don’t think that Jonathan can adequately pilot the ship of this country. Well, it is not yet over until it is over, the battle line has just been drawn, and neither Jonathan nor Atiku will provide the needed solution to save Nigeria. The system has to change because it has a problem and we must insist on that change for this system. Look at the way Jonathan is handling the Niger Delta issue as if we from the north are now fools.

What should be changed in the system?

There are so many things that are wrong. Infrastructure is nothing to write home about, the issues of basic necessity of life, our rights are not being provided or respected, the issue of power and so on. Look at how the average Nigerian suffers in this country. You can see that some of our past leaders never meant well for us. The system is so bad and those in authority are not ready to change it because they are benefitting from it. There is the need for a sovereign conference for us to talk on how this country will be. The sacrifices we did and are still doing for this country, they did not do it because most of them in their 20’s were Presidents, ambassadors and ministers. Gowon at 29 was a President and somebody will be telling you that you are too small and that you don’t have experience. The truth is, we can pilot the country better.

Yeah more like it!!!!!!! wink
