Huntelaar isn't a flair player, which is probably what Van Basten prefers. As for not starting regularly,he has a better goals ratio for Holland at 25 when compared to Van Nistlerooy at the same age.

He will make a good addition to United compared to what we have at the moment.

Exactly my sentiments
If you go into every relationship with the aim of getting married, what happens when you see that u're not made for each other?
This we must marry mentality is the reason why people commit suicides after break-ups

why is it that we meet a person and all we can think of is spending the rest of our lives with that person?
why can't we just enjoy the moment without plan for the future?
why do we want to own the person and have right over them?

People define the kind of relationships they want to have.
Although Africans are conservative about pure sexual relationships so nobody sets out to have a dead end relationship based purely on sex.
In some parts of the world. . . . .a guy and a babe can agree on such arrangements with no strings attached.

@ Emperoh,

The answer to that is simple.
EPL is a bigger league than the Dutch league. . . . . . . .There's no rocket science about it.
Dirk Kuyt featured for Holland. . . . . . . .Is Kuyt better than Huntelaar by any means??
Players in the EPL gets a nod ahead of players from wherever else. . . . Eredivisie is a 2nd tier league.

Ibime,

The word "BIG" is a relative word. . . . . . Even now, i do not believe Robinho is a BIG player.
Maybe he was big in Brazil before coming over to Spain but he hasnt really lit up the stage like his big money move suggested.
In today's football world. . . . . . The big players are Kaka, Ronaldo, Messi and few others whose clubs/countries cannot do without!!!
Will i be excited if Robinho joins Man Utd?? Never. . . . . . . .He will not add any value to our gameplay. . . Gimme Messi instead. cool
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here (Old) by Hannibal: 8:35pm On Jul 22, 2008
@ Ibime,

Now lets go back to a proper debate.

Obviously, his performances at Juventus wasn't what made Henry crappy. . . . .
It was the last few games he played in Monaco AFTER Wenger left them for Arsenal . . . He couldn't cope when Jean Tigana was the manager.
From Monaco he went to Juventus where he even disappointed many soccer pundits. . . .
All these led to speculations about him being a fluke. . . . . His reputation took a nose dive so he was not BIG when Wenger signed him.

So to answer ur question. . . . . Wenger signed a small player with a fat chequebook.
10.5 million is hardly the point, stop looking at the value that way. . . . .Was the 10.5 under one year contract or 6 years.
I am not sure but i think Henry was signed in a 5-year contract in 1999. . .That was HUGE for the performance he gave prior to Wenger signing him.

Ignoramus, Italian Super Cup is the equivalent of our Charity Shield and is played at the end of August/start of September. Your idiotic ass might be enlightened to know that Juve did not win the League in 1999, neither did they win the Coppa Italia, so there is NO WAY they could have played the Super Cup.

The only other domestic competition for Italian topflight teams is the Coppa Italia. So unless you are counting pre-season matches and testimonials, there is no way Henry could have played 27 matches for Juventus.

You have again been caught with your pants down and tried to duck the issue. Telling me about SuperCup. Do you even know what that is? I can produce you 50 links that show that Henry played 16 games for Juve. I just want you to produce ONE link to show he played 27 games.
Where did i say Henry/Juventus played in the super-cup??
I only listed other competitions in Italy asides Serie A and your appaling comprehension skills led u to believe i said Juve played in the Supercup?
Somebody help this idiot before i send him to HELL where he rightly belongs.

Ya problem is u are a vast, irritating bureaucrat. . . .what u cannot find on wiki/google does not "exist"
How pathetic?? Henry appeared in Juventus colours 27 times where he scored just 3 goals.
Lemme get his book and i will tell u all the matches he appeared either as a starter or as a sub.

Of course u can produce 50 links on the net. . . . .the same recycled garbage and sentences lifted from one anutha.
Ibime, u are a simpleton but a half-educated simpleton.
By your postulation, Henry only featured in 16 league games for Juventus and didn't play in any other competition??
Stop smoking cheap blunts, Ibime. . . . . . You cannot match ma footie knowledge.

How many times do I have to embarras you?
You have just embarrassed yourself with your spelling of "embarrass" tongue tongue
Bloody illiterate. grin

Yes he did - at Monaco! Cos Henry scored 26 goals in his first season, that tells me Henry came to Arsenal already great - unless Wenger is a magician who can teach you all your skills within a month.
Wenger made Henry great at Arsenal. . . .not JUVENTUS.
Are u aware Henry dried up immediately Wenger left Juventus and couldn't perform like he used to be?
He went to Juventus. . . . and performed even worse until he came back to Arsenal.
In 8 games, he couldn't find the NET. . . . .Your BIG player couldn't find the NET. grin cheesy

I would just compare your brain with that of a slug.

Apart from the league. . . . .There are other 3 competitions in Italy not to talk of super cup.
I can see google is not helping u neither is wikipedia. . . .so continue to dig.
When u are through, i would provide Henry's statistics in Juventus, u doofus.

It seems u dunno the difference between a BIG player and a player with potentials.
Benzema is not a big player yet but he has a great potential to be big just like Nani and Anderson.
Yes, i did say Ronaldo can go and Nani would replace him. . . . That does not mean i believe Nani would score 42 goals next season.

BIG player means present. . . . . Potential means future.
I dunno what type of education u had as a kid. . . . .Your teachers/tutors should be sued for making u this verbally foolish.
Henry had more international profile and he sat out on the bench in the final of France 98. . . . He was big INDEED!!!

Somehow this argument is drawing long
I know Huntelaar is a hitman, but my point is
Is he better than Le Sulk Berba.
Looking at prospects and achievements, we will turn Hunterlaar into what we want
but it won't take as less time as did Torres. It may take as much as one full season. We better bring Manucho if thats the case
Thats why i feel Berba no matter the level of sulking is my man any time any day
Moreover, football fans and the English press thinks he has done well. so whats the beef
Whatever the situation, i need to see him in reds come next season
Maybe then people like CR7 will know their position of play and then their real worth.
Emperoh, Huntelaar is better than Le Sulk in what we want either of em to do for United.
Our problem is not creating chances. . . . . It is burying em!!!
Who is better suited to score more goals between Berba n Hunter. . . . I think its Huntelaar by a mile.
What Berba would add to United will be matched or bettered by Cristiano, Rooney and Apache.

stop flitting back and forth between issues - one moment you are slating the players, the next its AW's fault?

Ok lets for one second buy your argument that AW cannot win the prem with his 'little boys', is that the fault of the players? Does it mean they have not excelled in their individual roles?

What did they win in those years?? Did they win the 'wealth of experience' 'leadership' and 'strength in depth' cups? Did they reach the UCL final?

It is pointless to have all those big names if they still don't win. If our 'little boys' win, then thats all that matters!
I am not swinging back n forth!!!!

All i am saying is Arsenal's failure is the collective responsibility of the players, the gaffer and the backroom staff. tongue
Sometimes, the players let Wenger down. . . .several times, Wenger lets his players down with crappy formation and playing Eboue as a winger.
Arsene must go back to his drawing board. . . .Play everyone in their natural postions and fill in the other gaps.
Once that is done, then the task becomes simpler. . . . . cool cool cool

@ Ibime,

Stop talking about ignorance when u are the ignoramus!!!! It's a very disturbing irony when u say someone is ignorant!!!

You still have the audacity to say Henry played 16 games?? Are u a slowpoke?
Henry played in 16 league games but appeared 27 times for Juventus in other crappy games he featured in.
His value went down after his short spell with Juventus just like his confidence.
Wenger made HENRY. . . .You can take that to the bank with interest.
Where were u when Wenger used Kanu to build Henry. .Playing his countryman for 85 mins with Kanu always coming as a sub to clean Henry's mess.

Talking of big players. . . . .  .I don't think Messi would miss a world cup final for Argentina and sit on the bench.
What makes a player big?? You even mentioned Nani as a big player. . . . .It seems u have a very warped view of the word BIG.
Nani has only got good potential. . . . . .Is he big now?? Hell No!!!! What has he done to warrant such stupendous adjective??
If Nani is huge. . . . .what about Cesc, Messi, Aguero, Tevez and many others. . . .How many individual awards has Nani won??
Ibime. . . . .u need to lie down. . . . .
Why should i take u serious when even David Trezeguet was a BIGGER player than Henry in 1999!

The truth is, he is not as highly regarded as you think. He may be good, but definitely not on the class you assume.

People keep saying Berba is temperamental and sulks, even T14 - the best striker ever to play in the EPL was sulky too many times, (OK not to the level of legendary Le Sulk aka Anelka grin grin) so that is not a biggie. Quality players sometimes have a prima donna thing going on, good coaches manage that and bring out results. Berba is better than Huntelaar.
U just contradicted urself. . . . . I actually prefer him because no one is looking at him(means he would be cheap) for a sterling quality.

How many people were bidding for Van Nistelrooy when Ferguson went after him??
There have been many good players like that who don't arouse big clubs at all. . . . U guys remember Mario Jardel??
One of the best strikers in Europe and he never left Porto because clubs didn't even give him a 2nd look. . .does that make him queer??

@ tkb417,

Mateja Kezman is a midget. . . . . .He is vertically challenged and against Premiership's burly defenders, he stood no chance.
Huntelaar is a different kettle of fish . . . .He is tall, strong and his technical ability is top draw.
The only downside is his pace. . . . .Many strikers have graced the Premiership without pace(Sheringham, Ashton, Cahill and Drogba)
A point man is what United needs. . . . .forget what happened to Kezman or Forlan. . . .Look at Ruud, Torres and Santa Cruz.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here (Old) by Hannibal: 5:47pm On Jul 22, 2008
@ Ibime,

This is why u will forever be known as a doofus.
Repeatedly insulting people in a debate doesn't move your flimsy agenda forward one jot and not addressing any of the points does likewise!!
Now listen to me like u have never listened to anyone in your warped world. . . . .

If we sit Alex Ferguson down today, he would tell u 3,000,000 players that he thinks would light up the stage in the next 3 years.
Afterall, he bought Djemba-Djemba, Forlan, Liam Miller and other quack players and they failed.
Ranieri or Ancellotti saying Henry was huge n reh reh reh means nuthing. . . .They have made errors in the past on who n who would be great.
Stop scoring cheap points when u argue. . . .None of em would have said so if Henry's dreams had died out like a wisp of smoke.

A big player wouldn't have missed a world cup final. Luiz Ronaldo threw fits before the World Cup final and STILL played for 90 mins.
I must agree the word "BIG PLAYER" is a relative word . . What's big to u might be an atom to me and vice versa.
Henry at Monaco wasn;t extra ordinary. . . . .He had Victor Ikpeba(Prince Of Monaco) with him.
The biggest young player in Europe then was Ronaldo de Lima. . . . .Compare Henry to him and get back to me.

After scoring an appaling 3 goals in 27 appearances for Juventus, Henry's value went down. . .
Only Wenger coulda bought him for 11 million pounds. . . . .And this is because he has worked with him in Monaco before going to Arsenal.
The likes of Denilson were making the headlines when Real Betis paid $32 million. . . those were the bright prospects then not HENRY.
Without Arsenal, Henry may have faded off like Denilson and so many other players . . .

So stop talking via your ass when u want to argue on Nairaland. . . .Ma wealth of knowledge on footie would drown u and divers wont find your corpse.

This crop of players are no worse than the 1999-2001 squad if you want to talk of 'winning' since the only things we 'won' in that time was 'FA Cup runner up' and 'league runner up'. Now if that crop was given the benefit of the doubt (with some removals and additions of course) and went on to win the double in 2002, I don't see why this team should be treated differently. Remember at that time, there was only a duopoly of MU and Arsenal, these days the competition has increased and there is a higher influx of money/quality players into the prem.
U just hit the nail on it's head with the highlighted sentence. . . . .

Considering the fact that the competition is now intense, shouldn't Wenger approach the issue with more air-tight plans rather than sticking to his old drawing board??

These days we have the money bags(Chelsea), The Scousers and Man Utd(new-improved under the Glazers). . . I just dont see how Wenger can break the hold of these 3 clubs and win the PREM with his lil boys.

Besides, the 1999-2001 class had more strength in depth and few world cup winners plying their trade at Arsenal. . . . It means the team had wealth of experience, leadership amongst other things. . . . Look at the present crop and compare!!!!
