No fewer than 30 persons and 32 cows were killed early Monday morning in a ghastly road accident that occured along the Lokoja- Abuja highway.


According to an eye witness account, the accident was caused by a road block mounted by armed robbers along the Irepeni axis of the highway.


The witness said a Luxury Bus with Registration Number KRD 799 LC which was coming from Lagos and heading to Abuja suddenly ran into the road block mounted by the armed bandits. As the bus was trying to manoeuvre its way, a Trailer Truck with registration number KTN 711 YZ loaded with dozens of cows suddenly rammed into the bus killing several people on the spot.


The impact of the accident, it was observed chopped off the front row of the trailer while the first seven rows of the Luxury bus collapsed with most of the passengers dead, including the driver of the Luxury bus.


Our correspondent who was passing through the highway at about 8.00 am yesterday saw scores of corpses with some mangled bodies been conveyed into vehicles by men of the Federal Road Safety Corps.


About six bodies of the affected passengers were counted which had their heads completely severed, as FRSC officers, the Police and sympathisers all combined to gather some severed human parts into nylon bags which were conveyed along with the corpses to the mortuary.


Also, about 32 cows were counted dead at the scene of the accident, while the surviving ones were seen scattered around the scene of the accident.

One of the victims of the accident who identified herself as Chinyere said that she lost her husband. The couple had just wedded.


The accident caused a serious traffic gridlock along the highway as motorists had to pass through the bush path to negotiate their way out of the gridlock.

When contacted, the state sector of the FRSC confirmed the accident, but declined to give the actual figure of casualties.

The naira, which rose to 180 against the dollar shortly after the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari about a month ago, has fallen to 222 at the parallel market due to a huge demand for dollars by importers and investors.


Increasing business activities have made importers and investors to move their foreign exchange demands to the parallel market, putting pressure on the naira at the segment, it was learnt on Tuesday.

The dollar was sold for between 220 and 222 on the streets of Lagos, Abuja and Kano on Tuesday, while the pounds and euro were sold for 350 and 249, respectively.

Analysts and foreign exchange dealers said the future of the naira looked bleak, at least at the parallel market.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has been depleting the external reserves in a bid to defend the local currency.

At the interbank forex market, where the central bank intervenes regularly to defend the currency, the naira closed at 199 against the dollar on Tuesday, data from the FMDQ OTC website showed.

The external reserves fell to $29.03bn on June 22, from $29.8bn on May 18, data from the CBN website showed.

Prior to the latest development, the foreign reserves had been stable for several weeks.
Economic and financial analysts said the latest movements in the external reserves meant that the naira was beginning to come under some fresh pressure.

Concerned about the depletion of the reserves, the CBN met with bank officials on Friday to discuss
how to mitigate the pressure on the external reserves.

The CBN has yet to make the outcome of the meeting official but sources said the central bank wanted the banks’ cooperation in order to reduce the pressure on the reserves.

The bank officials, it was learnt, told the CBN that it needed to relax its rules in the forex market and allow the naira to find its level.

The officials, however, promised to take the deliberations at the meeting to the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

It is unclear if the CBN will accede to the demand of the banks to relax the rules in the forex market, but the spokesperson for the central bank, Mr. Ibrahim Mu’azu, could not be reached immediately for comments. Calls made to his mobile telephone line were not answered.

Last November, the CBN devalued the naira after spending several billions of dollars to defend the local currency.

The Acting National President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, told our correspondent on Tuesday that the naira’s outlook at the parallel market looked bleak, forecasting that the currency might fall to 230 against the dollar in the coming weeks if the central bank failed to deploy measures to curb the increasing dollar demand at the parallel market.

He said, “There is pressure on the naira again. Maturing import bills are making the demand for dollars to rise again. Most importers and investors are saying they could not access dollar at the official market.

“They are now turning to the parallel market, a situation that is now fuelling the demand for dollar and other foreign currencies at the parallel market.”

The Head, Research and Investment, Afrinvest West Africa Limited, a research and investment advisory firm, Mr. Ayodeji Ebo, said, “The CBN needs to do something urgently otherwise it (slide in the value of the naira) will continue.

“If the pressure continues, the CBN may devalue the naira. I think the CBN is also waiting to see the plan of the new government in order to align its monetary policies with it. Once the new government comes up with its plan, the CBN may devalue the naira. If that is done, foreign investors who have been waiting on the sidelines will come in.”

It was one faithful morning after my regular job search on the internet job Search portal, i came across a job advert it was about a 5 star hotel recruitment, i read the requirement with interest.

All the requirement fit my Qualification so, i decided to apply for the job as a store Manager.
Three days later i was invited for an interview, i was excited to attend my first job interview with high hope of landing the job.

I did all i could practising, Reseaching about the company Mission and Vision.
The first stage of the interview was a writen test and thank God i pass the first stage and was shortlisted for the second stage of the interview.

I felt so happy that faithful day when i got a congratulatory massage for the next stage of the interview after three days.
On the final day of the interview, about 100 people were invited, although there were some gate crashing people waiting for slite opportunity to grab.

The interview was going on well but this one word "yea" i used instead of yes denied me my first job.
I was told to go home that they will get back to me, at that moment i knew that was the end, i felt so disappointed dragged my feet like someone that was heat by a truck.

My advice to job seekers is that they should always use the right words during interview to avoid this kind of situations.

The Queen of England has honoured a young Nigerian girl.

The young Nigerian girl, Nkechi Azinge, who is sold out to catering for sickle cell patients was among the four Nigerians who were honored by the queen of England.

They were awarded yesterday, June 22, 2015 at the The Queen’s Young Leader Award which held at the Buckingham palace. Azinge who runs a Sickle Cell Foundation also got support for her work from David Beckham and the executive producer of 12 Years a Slave, Steve McQueen.

Just few days ago, ex-beauty queen and Nollywood actress Stephanie Okereke-Linus and her husband, Linus Idahosa were specially invited by the Queen of England to be honoured at the 2015 edition of Queen’s Young Leaders Award. Here are photos of

After a review of his emergence as the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike has described himself as “a local champion.”
The reason, Wike said is because he has spent all his life in Port Harcourt where he attended his primary, secondary schools and university in the state.
The only time he said he spent outside Port Harcourt was “when I went to Lagos for my Law School, that is a professional one.”
Wike who spoke Saturday in Port Harcourt during an interactive forum with reporters also described himself as the engine room of former Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s election into office.
The governor explained that he was teaching those in Amaechi’s camp the way to play the game of politics, because “there is no polling booth in the state that I do not know or do not know anybody.”
For those who have been criticizing his emergence as governor, he said, “the fact is that I was prepared for that election.
“I was a Council Chairman. There is nowhere in this state that I do not know. There is no ward I do not know one person.
“As I sit down here, I can mention one, one person from each ward. I know the politicians in this state. I know who has strength and who does not have strength.”
The governor also said that during the course of the campaigns, “I never emaciated one day, the truth of the matter is that if you do the election 100 times in this state, I will win.”
On the sacked lecturers of Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, Wike said that they were people who have not started work with the school at all.
