If you don't have first-hand engineering/construction knowledge, my comment isn't for you. I don't understand what you've written cos you're now claiming it's the structural engineers fault.

Do you think civil engineers are different from structural engineer's? Do you even know what civil engineering means? Civil engineers go by the title civil/structural engineers and what they study in school is civil engineering.

Stop writing things you don't know and stop embarrassing yourself in the process.
It's obvious you aren't aware that there are different branches of civil engineering. How many Nigerians practice structural engineering if I may ask? You thinks it's all about casting foundation? Companies like Joe Faraday, Megamound,Siemens, Cappa de Alberto, Bruneli and the likes all use foreign Structural Design coys yet they still have defects every now and then so what are you talking about? Stop your I too know attitude Oga.

Nice to know that no lives were lost.

Now a lot of people must understand 2 things about Nigerian real estate developers:

1. They usually believe they know more than civil/structural engineers and many of them refuse to take professional advice, thus leading to structural failure of building projects.

2. They could be very greedy when it comes to paying for professional services that are required as part of the prerequisites for building such as soil test and proper foundation design, some even go ahead to deviate from the original design of the building and add extra floors, which also leads to collapse.

The building regulatory body in Lagos, LASBCA, must ensure that all building projects meet these requirements. The Gerard Road, Ikoyi building collapse that happened last year, the place had been closed before the late owner went to seek another approval from them and continued the suicidal project, leading to loss of lives.

And please dear civil engineers, once your clients refuse to listen to you, please do not hesitate to hands-off their project and report the case to the building authority with evidence, just to protect your future.
Oga calm down let's not be too quick to judge. Joe Faraday is one one the biggest construction coys in the island and banana island. I have personally visited their sites and can vouch for competence. Civil engineers or builders, they have them plenty. The person we should blame for this mishap is the structural engineer that designed the substructure way to the superstructure. The strength and stability was not tested from what I can see.. Moreso, our engineers of nowadays are quick to cut cost without regards to the rigidity of such project. The Structural engineer who is a consultant and the development control in charge of supervisory roles should be blamed solely for this and not the company. I rest my case.
Family / Re: Frustrated With My Wife by HarunaWest(m): 12:02am On Apr 10, 2023
tomi4life:
So, I am not new to nairaland, I only created a new account so i can post and remain annonymous.

I am 35 and my wife is 29, we have been married for 6 years now, we have 2 children a boy and a girl.

I really have a problem with my wife and not sure what can be done to address, now I must be very honest am not sure there is anything I can do I just want to use the platform to vent my frustration.

My marriage has not been very good, lately myself and my wife leave like room mates and not lovers, despite the age difference between me and my wife she doesnt really respect me. For the 6 years we have been in marriage 3 things have caused all our fights: cooking, Sex and finance

My wife rarely cooks in the house, things around welfare are not taken seriously, actually in a week, my wife can cook for me just 1 time. She cooks for the children and baths for them daily, we also have a help who does alot of cooking. She rarely askes me what I will eat, honestly I always have to go to the kitchen to sort myself, sometimes I buy food outside from eateries and bucker. Sometimes when she cooks it usually very late 10pm. I have complained severally and what happen is she tries to change, after a week, we are back to the same state. My wife can do without cooking for me for weeks. It really really pains me cos am a foody and I knw hw my mum treats matters of food. she is this person that forms busy, either she is busy with work or some church activities, she always has an excuse. She goes to work only ones a weeks the remaining 4days are remote. To address this issue I now order soups from major restaurant outlets, An example is today easter sunday, I had to tell our maid to prepare rice for myself and the kids, cos my wife was in church, we all went to church but she decided to stay back, knowing fully well no food was prepared.

Sex: our sex life is very boring, when we got married we always fight about sex, cos anytime I ask for it she always complain she is tired, so what I now do is ask for it only sat morning, brethen this is only day I get sex. If I miss that day, it is still next week. We sleep in different rooms, she sleeps with the children in the master bedroom while I sleep alone in another room. I can tell most time she doesnt enjoy it and never ever askes for it, I always ask and initiate it. She just lays like a log, even kisses is a no no, except she is really on, which rarely happens.

Finance:
I have always earned more than my wife, when we got married, I was earning 3 times what she was earning, but she changed jobs and got promoted severally and we were earning the same amount. she also does alot of side runs where she gets 200-300k monthly as side hustle, there was even a time she was earning more than I did. I dint let it bother me I continue to foot the entire house bills. 95% of the enitre house of comes from me, she only pays the maid , buys cooking gas and my sons diaper. Every other thing in the house is covered by me, house rent, school fees, project, all the bills. I give her 75k as food money monthly. I have continue to question her why I should give her food moeny if I still have to end up going out to eat. I think the only reason she sometime listens to me is cause i still provide the finances for the house. The time she was earning more I could see how she belittle some of my decisions. I just prayed to God, cos I noticed the respect was gone, when I talk to her about her role as a mum and mother to the home, she says she is working, she is busy, I mentioned to her that the money she works is for her, she doesnt share with the house, I have never asked her for it and am not against her working, she however should not neglect her responsibility as a mum. That my role as a father, God helping me is to provide, and this is why I work. I also noticed when I got a new job and my salary increased she kinda off felt jealous she didnt tell me but i noticed it, she began to aggressively look for jobs.

I really dont think we have that initmacy, we are just there, my wife cant come to tell me anything bothering her, she keeps to herself. Funny part is she is a very religious person, my wife will sleep with bible on her hand, wake up with bible pray and serve in various church unit, I however dont think she really understands what she reads. She also has a very bad temper sometimes when I raise certian issues, the ways she talks sometimes I have to hold back a response if not the whole thing will escalate. There are days I will raise certain issue up, the next things she mentions is " let just dissolve this marriage as it is not working" sometimes , I just refer her to her bible cos the utterances that come out of her mouth makes me doubt her understanding of Christianity.

I have never assaulted her, we have nt had any physically fight, what happens is most times when we have issues, I dont speak to her for days, then she come back apologizing. Sometimes when am wrong I also apologies.

Am not saying am perfect, I know there are areas I can do better, like in the buying off gift, I rarely buy her gift, not cause I cant but Cos she earns well and I believe she should buy whatever she needs with her money my wife earns approximately 800k monthy.

I expect my wife will support me but it like she is stressing me. when we go see my parent or our parent, it is all smiles, they dont knw hw stressful their daughter is, she even forms trying to serve me food and all.

Dont get me wrong she has some good side, but this thing is really getting into me. I dont drink, smoke or womanise, divorce is also not on the table for me.
Someone already told you that you guys should dissolve the union and you are here saying that divorce is not in the table. You have a fundamental problem. It's you that is the problem not your wife.

Politics / Re: Why Presidency Should Go To The Southeast – Wole Soyinka by HarunaWest(m): 9:24pm On Apr 04, 2023
LegendHero:
Prof is a committed democrat who understood that in a democracy, you have to build the bridges and win a nationally contested election to be president.

Peter Obi the religious bigot believed he can win election with only Christian votes and he waged religious war polarizing pastors to use their sacred altar for propaganda. He even went all the way to tell Bishop Oyedepo what propaganda to push on a certain day especially when you know the Bishop got thousands or millions of adherents.

Even Tinubu who chose a Muslim-Muslim ticket still appeal to the Christians and had to go all the way to CAN headquarters to explain himself.

There might be an Ibo president in the future, but it won’t be Obi because he already killed his chances by himself. I tip Prof. Soludo in that regard.
We will prefer an Rt. Hon. Amaechi, Prof Soludo,Engr. Dave Umahi or Dr Godfrey Onyeama. These are the one that we can trust. Politics is about everyone being carried along. Even though I don't support Tinubu, I realized that he campaigned like his party wasn't the ruling party. He was everywhere begging for votes. You can't play divisive politics and expect the North to vote for you in totality. It doesn't work that way. If only HE Peter Obi remained in PDP and Turaki won this election, he would have been the sure banker in the next election. You must build alliances and bridges to win a presidential election in Nigeria, no be beans.

Where the environment to stay? You never travel na why,

Waking up with dreams and goals, not waking up with electricity problem, police brutality, selfish politicians making laws for themselves, putting their family and cronies everywhere, bad roads, kidnappers, arm robbers etc

You need to have a feel of it. A breath of fresh air, where even with racism you want to overcome, only racism but Nigeria have more than racism, ETHNIC BIGOTS, religious gays, nepotism, etc.

How SON OF NOBODY WAN BE SOMEBODY IF YOU NO KNOW ANYBODY OR ASS LICK
Another typical black man mentality. Too quick to judge. Sharperly concluded that I ain't traveled. That's by the way. All you stated are mere excuses. Go and read the history of powerful Nations now and see what they went through. If you call what we are going through suffering, then you have no idea. Read up what the japanese did to the Chinese or what the British made America go through. Those two are among the world power now. Are you aware that Nigeria was supposed to be part of the BRICS nations at the early stages, they saw potential in us, but as typical black Africans, we backslided. Now the world has left us behind. We keep blaming others for our issues without sitting down to accept our lapses, critically admonish our weaknesses and charting a way forward to finding a lasting solution. Until the Nigerian man looks out for his brother and we love one another without restrictions, we will keep wallowing in oblivion.

Was there an Alarm bell in place that warns pedestrians at railway intersections whenever a train is approaching the intersection?.. (incase they have earphones on)πŸ””πŸš¨

It is really easy to point fingers but they failed in their own part to secure the lives of those motorists as well that lost their lives.. assuming there was a barrier that is automatically or manually operated, that driver wouldn't have attempted to cross 🚧🚷

which INEC was groomed? Una go just sit down dey type nonsense. All elections in Nigeria have been rigged from time immemorial. 2011 election was heavily rigged to favour president Jonathan, that of 2015 & 2019 was rigged to favour General Buhari now this last one of 2023 has been rigged to favour Senator Tinubu so what you talking about? How come the polling unit result they are uploading on their server is different from what was declared ?

I see all this as a deliberate attempt to annul the election at the last minute and install an interim govt.
The evidence so far is already enough to cancel the process.
Whoever think Buhari ( an unrepentant dictator) will easily leave power should think twice
Nothing will be cancelled. The courts will admit what was uploaded as evidence and not what was snapped from polling units. If INEC did work for a party, it's the PDP or LP. Where you not in this country in year 2003 and 2007 when Obasanjo rigged PDP into power? That is what you call rigging. An election that the major parties shared 12 states each wasn't rigged. There were infractions here and there, manipulation and voter bribery but that wouldn't change much the overall outcome of the election. If only the LP and our party PDP merged before the election and one of the candidates stepped down, things would have taken a different turn. Both parties didn't even meet up to the required 25% spread in 2/3 of states. The tribuna will just ask for isolated recounts in some polling units or throw the case out entirely . Make we prepare for 2027.

VeryKindHearted:
By my observation, the mood in the north among the masses is not that happy. I sense a kind of unhappiness among the people because Atiku did not win.

Let me take you down memory lane as follows:

APC almost denied Tinubu ticket because of the fear that Atiku Abubakar of PDP may likely win because the north will vote for Atiku if APC doesn't field a northerner.

They feared that APC could lose if Tinubu is the flag bearer.

Previous to this election, everywhere I went, I observed that the north was behind Atiku.

So let us say that the north has lost the election because PDP has lost.

The East has lost the election because LP has lost.

Why are the northerners blaming the east for their lost?

I sense a kind of anger from the northerners today. They said that the easterners only voted for LP.

I saw so many WhatsApp posts here in the north attacking Igbos. I hear some discussion bordering on the selfishness of easterners. They are not happy, I can confidently say.

I believe that the north thought that the east is so divided that it cannot come together to support a particular candidate.

I sincerely believed that they thought that PDP will win because somehow or other, the east would vote for PDP.

Although I never voted for APC(I am behind Obi). But I am happy because the north now knows that a candidate from the south can win even when the north is behind a northern candidate the way they were behind Atiku. The north now knows that if everyone is voting for his tribe, no one is sure of victory.

Previous to this election, Tinubu was unpopular and everywhere in the north was Atiku.

So I am happy that a southern has won in an election which also fielded a popular northerner.

Oga shvt da f up. You ain't from here so don't speak for us. Tinubu has machinery here in place,To ubu tha promises some of these governor's ministerial positions already. He had serving governors, senators, ex governors and senators all working for him 'genuinely', even the masses were behind him to a large extent. We the PDP already knew that we were heading for doom since AA refused to settle with the G5. The same national chairman Ayu that couldn't command reasonable votes from his state of origin. The elections were rigged and the best rigger won.

Life must go on after the election, we should never allow the politicians to continue using us as a bait.

The army that were deployed across Nigeria before the election are for mostly post election crises. So many new recruits who have never been overwhelmed with dicey situation before, dont be used as shooting practice, let the politicians go to court and avoid any means of protest which could lead to chaos and confusion.
