sholay2011:You're right. I really love the groundbreaking Yoruba novel 'Ògbójú Ode nínú igbó irúnmolè' by D.O Fagunwa , Ìrèké Oníbùdó also comes to mind. Other favorites of mine are, Kékeré Ekùn, Efúnsetàn Aníwúrà, J'e Ng l'ògbà tèmi, O le Ku, Kúyè, Owó èjè...but, I haven't read 'Agbako Nile Tete' and Koseegbe( I have only seen the movie). |
sholay2011:Yes, that's another masterpiece from Buchi Emecheta! |
I have read all and they remain some of the best novels ever written by Africans. Other books by African authors i like are The Bride Price-Buchi Emecheta, Violence-Festus Iyayi and Somolu Blues-(I cant remember d author), 'The Interpreters' by Wole Soyinka would have made my list but it was too hard for me to comprehend; I read the novel upto five times, before i could understand it ![]() |
Of the three pictures uploaded so far, two are dead;now living in a six feet sandy apartment under the ground..is that not enough reason to avoid obscene accumulation of wealth? Alas! we never learn from history.... |
Abusive marriage everywhere...God help us! |
emilil:I had been expecting people to see this issue from your angle. You just hit the nail on the head. Truth is both of them knew the marriage would not last but for what some selfish reasons, went ahead. |
@Op. The topic should have read 'Why are beautiful ladies doing this to THEMSELVES' not THEIRSELVES... On d issue raised, not all beautiful ladies have that problem, but most do. Usually, ladies who are too enamoured with their beauty, will surely have problems getting and staying married. They believe the world revolves around them; So,unconsciously (at times deliberately)they set very high standards for prospective suitors(in terms of looks, fame and financial buoyancy)...Such ladies build their wall so high, that most men can't climb it...by the time they realize their mistake, it is always too late...it is then, they can settle for ANYTHING!. |
For me, not necessarily someone with direct opposite traits. Someone with 85% of my nature is Ok. But, she must be quite humorous, slightly more playful..and a little more expressive. ![]() |
In short,Today's wives are end time wives.... ![]() But, i think there are still good natured wives out there, though very few... |
oluking:I thought i was d only one doubting d age. If anything, i THINK she is 41/42. I stand corrected though... |
clefstone:Na the same question I wan ask too..to think Funke is even much older than Uche makes one wonder ![]() |
All i know is that once allegations and counter allegations between a Governor and his Deputy become public knowledge like this, two things often happen, either the Deputy is impeached(e.g Alli Olanusi of Ondo,Jude Agbaso of Imo, Femi Pedro of Lagos, and Sunday Onyebuchi of Enugu) or he is sidelined till he goes into political oblivion..(e.g Segun Adesegun of Ogun State.... ![]() |
What a loss!....PURPLE RAIN remains an all time favorite of mine. May his soul rest in peace! |
ajoskele:I really understand your paranoia about Mimiko; Over d years, Mimiko has proven and has continued to prove to be a very cunning and mischievous Politician. However, on this issue of exploitation and exploration of Bitumen, the Federal Government has indeed given states the go-ahead to do such, IN PARTNERSHIP with PRIVATE INVESTORS. Before now, the solid minerals was on the exclusive legislative list, but now it is on the concurrent list...though, the constitution has not been amended to that effect. But, whether the private investor invited by the Ondo State Government is genuine or not I can't say.... |

@Op. It is NOT a peculiar trait of the female gender.... Did u not know that these days more guys are coming up with their conditions before settling down with a lady too?.; the shape, beauty, financial and employment status, educational qualifications etc are criteria that must be met by the lady. Truth is our values have changed dramatically over the years and they continue going from bad to worse.... |
SamuelAnyawu:No, the news items you read about him are not fake; He is owing backlog of salaries and has been paying half salaries in most cases. However, Aregbesola himself is not that bad.He is not as covetous as most of his colleagues in other states. He WAS just too overzealous and unnecessarily garrulous. In a bid to make the state 'unique', he set out borrowing excessively to finance infrastructural projects in the state,he also initiated policies and programs that would make the 'world' know indeed Osun 'is now a force to reckon with'. The O-YES(Empowerment scheme for 10 thousand youths with monthly stipend of 10k), the O-meal( feeding of school pupils daily),the Opon-Imo( customized mini laptops, given to secondary school students), O-REAP etc.. These, coupled with massive construction and rehabilitation of roads cost the state billions of Naira.Unfortunately, the state civil servants had(and still have) to be the ones to pay the price even as some of these programs gradually become ineffective due to paucity of funds. In short, Aregbesola bit more than he could chew. He made it worse by his unguarded and arrogant utterances especially during Jonathan administration. He created the impression Osun was doing fine and needed no FG's assistance. And when the situation began to get out of hand, he blamed everyone except himself...At that point, one would expect his image makers to come to his rescue, unfortunately they couldn't live up to expectations. These are the reasons behind his waning popularity within and outside the state....the pictures u see are often taken at the crowded central mosque, shortly after the Friday prayers...as a way to prove the Governor is still as popular as ever...how true that is,only time would tell.. |
Happy Birthday Brother. Here's wishing you many more beautiful years on earth! |
I don't think that's Fayose in the picture!!! |
A very popular song in the 80s...Funny enough, I used to think the guy was a Nigerian not knowing he was an American ![]() |
Claustrophobia! ![]() |
@OP... What about the Nigerian TV Series of those days (from the 80s),such as 'cockrow at dawn', Behind the clouds, to the 90s, Checkmate, Ripples ... Village headmaster,..and the TV adverts?..wow!!, OMO advert, JOY Girl, for Joy Soap, (hardly would u see naked bodies, yet the messages would be clear), Thermocool refrigerators advert nko?, (The man go dey use stick increase size of refrigerators like magic , Panadol nko?, "if e no be panadol e no fit be like Panadol",... All of this would make u stay glued to the TV...and the only TV station airing most of these programmes was NTA, which would start transmission by 4pm.... ![]() And the Foreign artistes of those days, Barry white,M.J, Whitney Houston (of blessed memory), Tina Turner, Tracy Chapman,Phil collins, Mark Morrison, the groups; Foreigner, Smokie, Boy-2-Men, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, etc...rocked into the 90s...and in Nigeria, Evy Edna Ogholi, Funmi Adams, Lagbaja, Obey, KSA, Oliver de Coque, Bright chimezie, Dan Maraya, Jos... etc made the 80s to mid-nineties one to always cherish.. ![]() ...Before i forget, the best Political jingle of all time, MKO Abiola's SDP jingle was like d National anthem in 1993...'MKO is our man o..'......Hmmmm...how time flies..... |
Perpetua is a committed, skillful and cool- headed player. I pray she finds happiness in the union. Happy married life! |
Lately KENYA has been the hub of weirdness in Africa... ![]() |

Op...'The Samaritan' featuring Samuel Jackson is a 2012 Movie. Which one dem wan release again ![]() |
It is obvious your BF is equally confused. He doesn't know who to choose between the two of you. This is because, apart from being with her(d other lady) for years, he MUST'VE seen different qualities and attributes in both of u, and he wishes those qualities could just be in ONE person. For instance,u talked about him correcting the grammatical blunders of the other lady, and from ur write up,you'd likely beat her hands down in that department!..and in terms of beauty and simplicity,MAYBE she has an edge over you... So, in essence Your BF needs to be realistic and more decisive by understanding that 'no one has it all'....and the best way you can make him decide quickly is to be firm by stepping aside! |
So, where is Tade Ogidan, the Director of Dangerous Twins, Family on Fire, Diamond ring, Madam Dearest, Out of bounds etc? ![]() |
