By Olaleye Ifelola How did we get to the point where "pastors" now walk on members? Or tell them to swallow things or tell them to be using wood to beat the floor. How did we get to the point where "pastors" now use acrobatics to deliver supposedly possessed people in the "church"? Some strange things are happening under the name of christianity and it must stop! I must confess all these erratic behaviour is usually under the Pentecostal movement(which I worship with) There is need for us to save ourselves from all these shameful things done in Christianity's name and save our faith from corruption. I recommend that govt should reform and make CAN a self regulating agency with the power to register and deregister churches. A kind of special INEC kind of arrangement where CAN though created by government would be independent. However it's leadership cannot be chosen by govt neither would it be funded by govt. CAN should be made to have three branches which includes the Orthodox, Pentecostal and Catholic branches, while CAN itself at the hiighest level should have an executive council made of six delegates from each of the three branches of CAN. Churches should then be re-registered under any of the three branches with well laid down rules for its membership. The Pentecostals especially should then come together and agree on what constitutes Pentecostalism and produce a binding resolution within six month of CAN's recreation or a resolution would be created for them by CAN's general council. Each of the branches under CAN should have their own board duly elected by whatever means they desire. Churches who violate the conditions under the branch they were registered should be placed on probation and subsequent violation should lead to suspension. After a church is suspended it should be passed unto the CAN's executive council which should be the only level where a church could be deregistered if discovered that it completely flouts the basic tenets of Christianity. If it is discovered the church was suspended for mere doctrinal differences, then the two other branches could reabsorb the church. For instance, an Orthodox church suspended for practicing Tongue speaking, Slaying in the spirit under the Orthodox council can easily be reabsorbed by the pentecostal branch. If the Three branches reject a particular church, then CAN's 18 elected executives should take a vote to deregister the church. If there is 2/3rd agreement to deregister the church, then the organization must be deregistered. Since the constitution allows freedom of worship, they should be allowed to congregate if they are not breaking any laws but prevented by law from referring to themselves as a "church." If CAN's executive council fails to reach a 2/3rd consensus then the church can be allowed to exist as an independent entity(I suspect churches like Celestial would fall under this category). CAN(State Levels) should also be given the power to suspend pastors even from the church they founded if allegations of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, financial impropriety are founded to be true under investigations. While CAN and her branches should never be given power to control or interfere in financial or succession issues of any church. There must still be a mandatory full disclosure policy for churches which would make all churches disclose their financial revenue and financial expenditure at the end of each fiscal year. https://www.facebook.com/lovedynamite007/posts/2064225276940929 Lalasticlala |

ollah2:Actually he doesn't own a rolls Royce, he uses a sonata and a jeep. There needs to be moderation in the Pentecostal bloc of Christianity.. Some certain things are just not necessary. Not all churches should require usage of jets. As per vehicles there is no need to go for the most exotic. Something functional but trendy is still ok. Why go for the most expensive and exclusive vehicles. As papa Hagin would say when it comes to the prosperity message there is a thin line between the permissible and objectionable.

AtYourCervix:Oh he just used PERFECTLY to describe a plane which took off with two engines but returned with one. That does not sound perfect to me sir. The testimony of the story is not that they could fly with one engine but that God ensured that the second engine only knocked immediately they halted at the Lagos airport. You can tell a pilot what to do if you own or rented the private jet but telling him what to do is akin to an almajiri telling Buhari what to do!I never said the Bishop instructed the pilot on HOW to fly, I only said the bishop told the pilot WHERE to go. If the pilot had continued to go to Kano, the plane's second engine would have knocked midair because they still had more than 30 minutes airtime to reach Kano. Lagos - Kano I heard is 1hr45 minutes... |
Adexprint:Chai can you see yourself. How many people did Oyakhilome, Adeyemi, Oyedepo or Adeboye put a gun to their head to pay tithe? Did they chase members who don't pay tithe out of their gatherings? Lalasticlala |
This is the same man who slammed Adeboye for asking worshippers for a 1 billion naira donation to complete some works at the RCCG camp. You know the problem is that the vast majority of humans who walk the earth are hypocrites. This is one of the reasons I never join any cause that I do not know the intentions that birthed it. You condemn the pastors for collecting money to advance the cause of their organisations yet you do the same but tell us yours isn't tithe and should not be condemned...

Student Organization you say, that must be some very terrorist inclined student organization. A bomb blast of US embassy in Iran would spell doom for Iran economically and militarily. Lalasticlala |
SpoiltVirgin:Yeah a lot of people write on Saturday. Just be calm at the CBT center and take along relevant documents you need to submit at the interview. Which course did you choose? |
I don't see why polytechnics would clamour to become universities. Just focus on being one of the best polytechnic there is. We can't be converting all the good Polys to universities, creating the impression that an institution would only remain a polytechnic if it is not good enough to be a university... |

CodeTemplar:The north has many issues. The elites are comfortable with feeding the people with Islam, a tool for social engineering. That place would have been worse than Mali if not for the south. They should forever be grateful to lugard and all his people if not religious crase would have destroyed them. |
SpoiltVirgin:Have you written yours? |
Lakeside79:You are actually the one who is mentally lazy. Was it the absense of fuel that knocked the first engine? Off course sense would always prevail to any flight crew to return plane to the nearest airport once a problem is detected. It wasn't because of any nonsensical calculation. Lol the guy said no one can tell a pilot what to do. Try owning a private jet. You never think beyond your obsession for tithe which off course has never been your business... |
This is so unfortunate. And It hasn't even started to rain.
|
Lakeside79:One of those years ago Bishop Oyedepo was flying in the Hawker Sydelley jet which the church bought in September of 1996 for 100 million naira. They were 30 minutes into the flight enroute Kano when the first engine knocked. Everybody started panicking and the bishop told the pilot to return to Lagos. The jet made a return back to Lagos and landed with one engine. Immediately the jet landed and made a stop. Bang! The second engine knocked off.. If that is not a miracle what do you call it?

Angels are never caught off guard. You can't see them unless they want you to see them. They are usually sent on specific assignments and are never permitted to show off. If you want to know more about the angelic ministry I would recommend you read the book "Angels on Assignment" by Roland Buck. |
WHEN in 2010 Are Afe Babalola (SAN) kicked off academic session at the Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD, little did Nigerians know that the institution would become a standard for federal, state and private universities. The private institution sited on over 1,000 hectares of land, directly opposite the Federal Polytechnic in Ado-Ekiti, boasts of world class facilities. ABUAD at different fora, had been adjudged by former NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Julius Okojie; Health Minister, Professor Isaac Adewole; CMD, University Teaching Hospital,UCH Ibadan, Professor Temitope Alonge and immediate past President of Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Engr. Isaac Olorunfemi, as the best in the country. Benchmark and reference point Statistics revealed that it is,perhaps, the only school in the country where each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory is evenly represented in admissions. It is also one of the few universities that are over-subscribed by students every year. While its carrying admissions capacity is over 8,000, the institution gets over 15,000 applications. Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole The record also shows that ABUAD in eight years, had graduated five sets. While federal, state and many private universities are preparing or conducting examinations for its students, ABUAD had since completed the semester. The NUC has acknowledged it as “a model, benchmark and reference point for other universities.” The Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigeria acknowledged it as the most successful private university in Nigeria and lately, the NUC described it as “the pride of the Nigerian university system.” On its part, UNESCO also acknowledged ABUAD as “a world class institution of higher education.” Little surprise then, that in January 2017, Webometrics ranking of world’s universities ranked ABUAD as best private university in Google Scholar (Transparent Ranking) in Nigeria; Number three best out of 249 higher education institutions including all private and public universities, polytechnics and colleges of education in Google Scholar (Transparent Ranking) in Nigeria. ABUAD is number two best private university in Repository Ranking in Nigeria and number four best out of 249 higher education institutions in Nigeria. It is number two best private university in Webometrics ranking in Nigeria. I have heard people ask: “What’s so special about ABUAD that many admission seekers choose it as first choice?” The institution that has received 100 per cent accreditation of its 47 programmes was described by Professor Julius Okojie as “best in West Africa.” He said the Law programme of ABUAD is the best in West Africa. For the immediate past president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Engr. Isaac Olorunfemi, ABUAD engineering programme should serve as “template for engineering education in Nigeria.” Also, former Minister of State for Health, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan, speaking on the institution’s Medical programme said: “It will be difficult for any other university in Nigeria to equal. Poor health indicators “My first visit to the institution revealed to me that half of the story of the school was not told. Vanguard’s tour of the institution’s facilities confirmed the remarks of other academics. Indeed, the institution which started with 240 students eight years ago, has increased to 8,112 in 2018. ABUAD does not only parade itself as an academic institution but boasts of world class multi-system hospital. Health minister and medical educator, Professor Isaac Adewole, said of the hospital: “This hospital will offer us what we hitherto believe cannot happen in this country. “It will also improve the poor health indicators in Nigeria. With what I have seen here, this hospital matches the best in the world and it will certainly put an end to medical tourism outside Nigeria.” Moreover, the CMD, University Teaching Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Professor Temitope Alonge said: “I have worked in many hospitals both in Nigeria and in Europe. This hospital beats most hospitals where I have worked in Europe. This surely will be the answer to medical tourism. With what’s here in this hospital, there is no reason doctors should want to go abroad for sabbatical. All they need is here.” ABUAD medical consultant, Dr. Olukayode Akinlade, who took journalists round the medical facilities said the multi-system hospital has 400-bed capacity. He disclosed that the multi system hospital has orthopaedic medical theatre, abdominal medical theatre; ear, nose and throat theatre; brain theatre and cardiac theatre. ”The teaching hospital is proud of 95 qualified medical practitioners in Nigeria and abroad,” he added. Besides, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, DVC (Administration) and Provost, College of Law, Professor Smaranda Olarinde in her remarks said: “This College of Law was rated the best college of law in West Africa and best college of law in Nigeria by the former NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Julius Okojie. “Among our former graduates, we had first class, second class upper division and in Law School in 2016, we had two, one from the Abuja campus and the other one from Lagos campus. Last year, we had one first class and several second class upper division students and the Council of Legal Education acknowledged our students for their performances by sending letter of commendation to the institution and to the College. “Immediately we finished our second graduation, the NUC came over and accredited our law facilities and told us to go ahead because they were highly satisfied with our facilities.” Meanwhile, the Chancellor and Founder of ABUAD, learned Silk, Afe Babalola (SAN), disclosed that next week Monday, the university will commission four key projects. Letter of commendation He said: “The sophisticated telemedicine equipment which was donated by our partner, Aster DM Healthcare of Dubai, to our ultra-modern 400-bed multi system hospital will assist our hospital in the area of tele-consulting, tele-diagnosis and tele-management. “It will enable our partners in Dubai to join us in ABUAD in performing medical services by proxy. The university’s 18m fixed Dome Planetarium, the only one in Africa with Astronomical Observatory is one of the largest fixed planetariums in the world. “Multi ultra-modern post-graduate building and hall of residence built at a cost of N2 billion and state-of-the-art social and management science building constructed at a cost of N1.5 billion.” Expected at the commissioning, he noted are, crème-de-la-creme of the society made up of members of the Bar and Bench, royalty, clergy and captains of industry, as well as top politicians. He said that Nigeria’s former Head of State who is an alumnus of ABUAD, General Yakubu Gowon, Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, and Chairman, Aster Group of Dubai, Dr. Azadd Moopen among others, will be in attendance.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/05/abuad-hospital-matches-best-world-health-minister/ Lalasticlala

afroniger:Lol dey there |
No wonder. Lalasticlala |
Well its not your fault really. Lalasticlala |
This is the problem of Nigerian higher education. The lecturers are glorifying themselves in how difficult it is to get a first class in their university, Instead of glorifying the quality of knowledge passed. An average UK university has 25% First class in each graduating set, yet the knowledge passed on to students is incredible. When I enrolled at CU, the university told us it was possible to achieve excellent results if we desired to. Every single year the university would work assiduously to ensure that the conditions were optimum for learning. Each time students fail massively the university questions her own role in it and adjust when necessary. And I am very proud of that system. How do you 'produce' people who can revolutionize the nation when all you teach them is limitations and continually advocate for the status quo. How about telling them what they can achieve if they belief and work hard enough... |
Hmm very bad idea... What we need right now isn't a reduction of universities but the creation of flagship universities - that is, hyper funded select federal universities with the mandate of extraordinary research and intensive post graduate education. We just need six of them. One in every region with a special accommodation in the nation's budget. We also need to continue legalising private universities that have the financial stamina to be sustainable. And then finally liberalise the damn curriculum. Universities are meant to show the way and not be shown the way. Lalasticlala |
Ukarakpa2019:Be intelligent! Did Oyedepo open a nairaland account to talk about church finance? No, we only took a small part of his message and posted it on nairaland. If we had posted the part where he called for souls to save I am sure you won't have even opened the thread. |
seguno2:But winners is not as wealthy as catholic so why the comparison. And ERM winners has about 200 primary and sec schools.... |
CodeTemplar:Well if they try that, the churches can easily centralise all their income in the US where Churches are exempted by law to pay tax. The foreign income from foreign stations would be diverted to USA and the Church reserves will also relocate to a more friendlier country. That I believe can hurt the Nigerian economy...(I tell you, if winners moves her reserves away from Nigeria at once, the bank holding the money will feel it) They can lay hands on the offerings from Nigeria, but churches could make it harder for them by convincing members to pay online and route it to foreign accounts. Now All that is assuming Govt can pass the legislation. But the rate at which Pentecostalism is growing and gaining representation in Govt. It would only become harder as the years goes by. But then sef Winners pays taxes in other countries so no shaking. And Oyedepo has said the church is willing to pay taxes in Nigeria as long as the Muslims(Mosques) are included. Although he still makes a good point that canaanland provides its own water, electricity, road, schools, security etc so what is govt taxing them for exactly, especially since members already paid tax of the income they are tithing... Personally I would forever stand against TAXATION of churches, the Anglicans, Ecwas, Baptist, Methodist are not as funded as the LFC, Christ embassy of this world. In the event of taxation it is the Orthodox they would catch, much of the Pentecostals can easily avoid because of their foreign stations. What govt should focus on is to collaborate with the churches so as to maximally gain from them. Create Joint schools with the church, joint hospitals with the church, joint rehabs, joint orphanages etc and look for ways religious tourism could benefit businesses. If Nigeria is of religious value then exploit it rather than bickering. The likes of Isreal, Saudi are making billions of dollars from the religious value of their countries.Nigeria should focus on this rather than focus on attacking them because it won't work. |
HeyCorleone:Now believe me Neither Oyedepo nor Adeboye can use all the gifts people shower on them annually. It is not even possible. Much of those gifts are also given out. But there is no need to put the camera on it. Sometime ago Winners shipped loads of relief materials to Sierraleone after the landslides. They could put the camera on it and gain popularity but they did it under the radar. When next the pope wants to give out a lambo he should please not let us know. ![]() cyrilamx:I know baba, infact Catholics have major investments in Gold and all that. But I sense a competitive spirit in you. No need for all that deathwing:I only laid how some churches could avoid(not evade) the tax. And I am not necessarily advocating for Tax avoidance. Plus Oyedepo has said Winners is willing to pay taxes soooo. Though i suspect CAN would have none of it... People like me in govt would also have none of it... When govt calls for tax we would also go and look for money in the belly of the Fish because that is the kind of tax Jesus paid(Belly of Fish Tax) not church income tax ![]() |
And I can attest that in January of 2011 Winners Chapel paid 1.5 Billion naira in Tithe to RCCG for the month. Assuming the size of the January Tithe was not a surge due to Shiloh sacrifice. That puts Winners Tithe to RCCG at 1.5 billion x 12months = 18 billion. 18 billion x 10 = 180billion naira annual income. If this is a true reflection of the financial state of Winners Chapel. It means winners chapel is wealthier than Ekiti, Ebonyi and Yobe put together and even wealthier than all south western state except Lagos(only IGR). It is not unusual though for this kind money to be in one church, the catholic church is wealthier than the top 3 corporations in the world combined with an annual expenditure of $174Billion. |
