tivta: No 3 is false, how will people know about your service if you don't advertise? Do you know how much Samsung spends on advertising every year? It is only in Nigeria that small businesses don't see the value of advertising The OP said "going big" on advertising should be a NO for "new" businesses. However, it's just a piece of advice from a concerned fellow. You can either inculcate or discard it. |

Fairgodwin: I have always wondered too. I never loved my father half as much as I love my mother. But now the whole thing is beginning to trouble me, because I know I'm a man too and I'm likely to have kids someday who might, no not might, but DEFINITELY love their mother than they love me. This is making marriage very scary and uninteresting to me. I think it is just a natural phenomenon that we can neither 'fight' nor erase. Guys, I'm sorry we just have to deal with it. Whoever doesn't love his dad should remember that he might become a father someday. |

We are not all this way, although circumstances can alter cases. Please forgive him and let us put the blame at the feet of the trauma that overtook him after the accident. But to those who will understand, permit me to also say, nemo dat quod non habet. This is indeed the true case of the 'lawyer'.
Chai, i feel embarrassed to be associated with this manner of man. To those asking how he passed the bar finals...errmmmm....Let's say he passed. We really need to investigate the guy and find out if he is a lawyer because this is embarrassing. We can't ascribe it to any trauma because it doesn't hold any water. nmreports: You are absolutely correct. You would however agree with me that this can only happen in robust HR department right?. However, I am open to your comments. Like you said, you are a god in HR so what do I know than to learn from you. The discussion was made open for people like you. Thanks for your comment.
Do you mind enlightening me how you reduce a million cvs to 50 in 4 hours?. Just curious. I can send you a pm if you feel my question is sardonic. I find your statement (You are a god in HR) absolutely inappropriate. However, let me disregard that and respond to your comment. First if you don't have a robust HR department, then it's not good enough and your experience in such an environment can't reflect acceptable HR practices. It's just like using the experience of a manual subsistent farmer to discuss the effect of agriculture in an economy. Secondly, there are unannounced preferences a HR personel anticipates while advertising a vacant position. The most important aspects of these preferences are usually on the first page. So, sometimes it's like opening some applications and closing them almost immediately. Other times, honest but suspicious omissions could also be a factor. For instance, an experienced applicant failing or avoiding his/her last boss or a fresher avoiding his/her school as a reference. These and many more could help you while sorting. |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Nairaland HR, How Do You Ensure Fairness When You Receive Thousands Of Cvs?. by histemple: 8:39am On Jan 12, 2017 |
nmreports: This is to help some of us who have been wondering how this is done and to all those who believe HR do not check CVs because of the volume. The assumption is that someone already has the job before the vacancy was posted.
For me, here is what I do: Note: This does not represent all HR personnel mode of operation neither does it represent my organizations own.
1. When I post a vacancy to received CVs, from experience, most would be rejected because I use a screening technique that automatically sends emails that do not follow the stated instructions to spam. So those who did not follow the instructions were automatically taken to spam.
2. Those with luck who for some reasons found their way in as a result of some bug would be manually deleted by me. Reason is that I have enough CV already and I cant start looking at someone who did not even follow instructions in the first place. If you cannot follow instructions then you could be a bad fit.
3. The next step for me is to go from the beginning to see those who applied first (Its my own technique) then I start from there. I feel this is the only way for me to do justice. First come first served.
Thats why in the three major mistakes job seekers make, I mentioned that applicants should always apply fast: http://www.hrtechnique.com/2016/12/3-major-mistakes-job-seekers-make.html
4. I look at the contents, the structure before I even open the attachment. Your presentation matters to me.
My point is yes, we cannot look through all CVs but each HR person has a technique to ensure that fairness is implemented. How do you do it?
Related articles on www.HRtechnique.com Well, my consolation here is that you said this technique is yours alone and not even that of your organization. I will advice that you review your processes because this isn't fair enough, especially for your organization. The reason we ask applicants to use certain formats is for ease of screening and any applicant who complied with this instruction must be screened. As an experienced HR person, it takes less than 4 hours to sort a million CVs, that is if you even get that much applications for a particular position. A sound HR expert who knows what he/she is looking for, should be able to reduce a million CVs to 50 during sorting. For example, if you are looking for an experienced person to work in a company's finance department, you already know the relevant educational background and work experience preferable. From a CV of 50, you should be able to use other criteria such as rating of previous organization, position occupied, etc to get your final 10 for interview. Where you trash an application that falls within the deadline simply because it wasn't the first, is injustice. What if the last 10 to apply are the most qualified? A very important aspect of HR is the feedback. You must acknowledge receipt of all applications and perhaps send a feedback mails at the end of all your processes. Like sending a regret mail at any point you intend to discontinue with an application. |

sneak3: You don't need a lawyer, it's something you can start and conclude ursef. Take her death certificate to a high court as the next of kin, you will request for a letter of administration after which you take it to the bank. The bank will inturn reconfirm same from court independently to certify it's true copy. Once this process is concluded you then now write for the money to be tranfered to a given account in the name of the next of KIn as Stated in the Letter of admin. Or a Draft is raised in that same name. But like one of the Early Comments u Need to approach the Bank where the account is domiciled (was opened) give the customer Service the accurate name used in opening the account and Am sure You can get the account Number. Rgds I find your submission quite intelligent. However, I will suggest a talk with the branch first because nobody is sure who the next of kin is. |

Family › The Role Of Mothes In Domestic Violence. by histemple(op): 9:19am On Jan 11, 2017 |
Most of the reports and campaigns on domestic violence tend to focus on the effects rather than addressing the cause (s)---little wonder it's on the increase rather than decline.
All reported cases of domestic violence against women are usually greeted with ambivalence, from the following categories of people;
1. The men who are guilty but trying to justify their actions. 2. Staunch Feminists who enjoys any article that is anti-men and, 3.The indifferent class who believes that "it all depends".
First, let me make it clear that I condemn domestic violence in all its forms. Surprisingly as an activist, I seldom take up cases of domestic violence because of the DOMESTIC in it. Just before you accuse me of male chauvinism, I have prosecuted more cases of oppression and rights violation against women (pro bono) than I have done for men.
Now let's examine the role of women in encouraging domestic violence, perhaps inadvertently.
Admittedly, men are mostly the culprits in about 80% of reported cases of domestic violence and other forms of violence against women but come to think of it, these men did not fall from the sky. They are our brothers, sons, cousins and nephews!
How many mothers, sisters, really care to know how their sons, brothers, cousins and nephews treat their wife or wives as the case may be?
Do you even listen to these women who are your daughters in-law, sisters in -law, cousin's wife and nephew's wife without sentiments?
Do you see them suffering in the hands of these men(your relations) and decide to play the ostrich?
As a mother why would you want to manage your house and also decide how your son's house should be managed, yet you fight anybody that disturbs your daughter in her husband's house?
There's no gainsaying that most brides are even more scared of the presence of mother in-laws and sincerely wished none existed. A mother in-law knows that her son is a wife beater but would rather blame the poor wife for her son's behavior than cautioning her son. I have had reports of sisters in-law who went to their brother's house to beat up the wife and throw her things out.
Today I charge women to first examine themselves and wake up to tackle violence against fellow women with sincerity of purpose first before carrying placards.
Let's even digress and look a women's inhumanity to fellow women who suddenly become widows! The horror called widowhood rites is supervised by none other than fellow women. Widows are subjected to so many degrading and humiliating procedures during and after the funeral rites of her deceased husband. This inhumanity is meted out by fellow women under the guise of tradition.
Surprisingly, the men do not take part and actually do frown at the gross abuse. The umuada(as they are called in Igboland) actually take it upon themselves to "punish" these widows by putting them through excruciating traditional rites that cause them MORE HARM and NO GOOD. Not many of the widows survive this preposterous practice thereafter.
Finally, both boys and girls grow under the tutelage of their mother up until adulthood before getting married. So, I call on all mothers to go back to the drawing board and start now to fixing your son on how to become a better husband, and your daughter on how to become a wife her husband would adore rather than abuse.
Tell your sons the truth and stop shying away from the reality because that your daughter in-law is someone's daughter and your daughter will be someone's wife someday.
A responsible child raised by a responsible mother is the panacea for domestic violence.
