Yes, I am also a victim of 3rd class - (mostly by my own making). Knowing dat I've got all it takes to have made an excellent grade from school puts me in some measure of pains whenever my mind reflect on some of d events of my past life. It is ofcos no teneable excuse 4 me 2 say that part of d reason y I made a 3rd class was because it was tough 4 me going thru d university because while I was there, I saw a number of students dat went thru d same school with tougher lives than mine & came out with outstanding grades. Bros. & Sists., by my grades, so many opportunities have been missed! Howbeit, God's favour has seen me record d kind of successes dat has come d way of my recent life after graduating from d university. This notwitstanding, I sometimes find myself tinking aloud & saying: "it could have been better"! Almost immediately, I am quick to also recognise dat with my inability 2 knowing wat every emerging seconds of my life hold & had held 4 me, it could have also been worse off. Bottomline is: oweing 2 our unknown individual destinies, d course of our lives after d lofty & fame announcing 1st class, d adoring 2:1, d consoling 2:2, d stigmatizing 3rd class (like some called it on dis thread), d demeaning, spiteful pass, d murderous Letter of Attendance & d unfortunate "so, me I no go university" can only be determined by GOD & GOD alone!!!

I must also be quick 2 warn those who have d kind of mind set I had b4 gaining admission & shortly after gaining admission, dat d moment an opportunity 2 be schooled come their way, they must make d most of it. Now, wat was dat mind set I had?

because of my entrepreneural skills, I told myself dat all I wanted 2 go 2 d university 4 was to acquire a university degree certificate, especially as I intend 2 go into politics @ d highest level. I told myself dat I was never going 2 submit any cv 2 any company 4 employment consideration. I am going 2 float my own business & be my own boss & an employer of labour. Like I said earlier on, dis God has helped me achieve & it is getting better by d day. But d chances I'v missed so far are those that could have multiplied those tins I'v achieved 2day by a hundred fold if I had made a 1st class or 2:1. Pls, permit me not 2 write about my missed opportunity because reading about them wd make U cry 4 me.

Despite how rosy life has been 2 me, which ofcos is by d special grace & favor of God, if I have another opportunity 2 go 2 d university again 4 my 1st degree, I'll gun 4 a 1st class, knowing dat d worst fall if I be unable 2 achieve it wd be a 2:1.

Do you think it is by reading that you make 2.1 or first class. What of the situation were your answer scripts get missing or the lecturer decides to mark you down even when you are doing well. This guy's story is an encouragement to all, that no matter your situation you can still make it. Afterall when you die you leave all this degrees. The most important thing is what impact are you making in the world you live in. The most important thing in life is where you are heading to not where you are coming from. oadah: I came out with a 3rd class, I felt the world has crumbled on my head cos I narrowly missed 2.2 and to make matters worst my girl friend of 3 years left me because of that. I scouted for job all over 9ja from 2006 after my service, I wrote a lot of banks (finbank, unity bank, gtb and former afribank) aptitude test and I never failed ANYONE, but I was always told to leave after the first interviews , but I still never gave up, in 2008 I wrote a test and passed the aptitude test and interview with one of the largest telecoms company and that was my first job as a Key Account Manager, in 2009 a white man took so much interest after a presentation and took me to schlumbeger, early this year I left for a government appointment after recommendation from the presidency through a colleague, In between these years I have done PGD and gone for professional courses in Uk, SA and US.

The truth is every man has his destiny, amongst my former course mates in The University, I am the most successful and richest, even my former lecturers call me to assist with connection and also solve personal/financial issues.....most of my 2.1 and 2.2 former colleagues that were employed in the Banks have already been sacked,

I don't encourage laziness but if you find yourself with a 3rd class or pass, it's not the end, God has better plans.

I was discussing with one top management HR personnel the other day, and the things he told me, where shocking to say the least.
He said and i quote "90% of 2.1 graduates do not know what they are doing, and thats why he has been telling organizations that
want to recruit the best to remove the grade restrictions".

I have said it times without numbers, that Nigeria is moving towards a direction, whereby it is your skills that will get you the Job
rather than your grades.
I can point at least 6 lecturers in my department, who were known to collect bribes to give student high grades, in a department as critical
as Engineering, and then you wonder why 2.1 is not respected anymore.

If you look carefully at the oil servicing firms, you will notice a gradual movement from recruitment by excellent grades,
to the focus on skills.

i totally agree with what the O.P has said, but i want to extend that advice to the first class graduates,
and the 2.1's of this world, DO NOT rest on your grades to get you your dream Job,
please, develop yourself, and acquire skills like your life depends on it.
Stop dangling a sheet of paper in front of Hiring managers, and start proving that you are worth your degree.

If for what ever reasons you made poor grades, then its for the best, because now you have extra motivation to become
something better.
the truth about most people who come out with high grades, is that, they depend on that result, rather than the brain that achieved
the result.

I say a hearty congratulations to those that survived the Nigerian system of Education, and still made a 2.1 or 2.2 or even 3rd class.
you have done well, but now is not the time to rest, its the time to prove to yourself that you truly merited that excellent CGPA or that you can do better than
that poor result, that is leaving you heartbroken.
and even, if you had blocked your way to the top, its not still too late, you can still prove yourself.

talking about custom roms, cyanogen mod has been ma worst experience ever,i flashed it on ma HTC mytouch 4g, and d first tin d freaking ROM did was to corrupt ma 16gig memory card and render it useless, second tin it did was to turn ma fone to a heating machine,, pretty bad experience......,, anoda nightmarish ROM i flashed was miui., well to be fiar it's d finest ROM i ever seen, buh it gat just two "LITTLE" problems, firstly d phone gets so hot,i gave to turn d freaking ac on, secondly ma battery only lasts a meager 4 hours, can you imagine!!!!
now when all hope seemed to be lost,i discovered the dark unicorn aokp ics based ROM,, men dis ROM is a piece of heaven,,,sooooo cool, Everytin works perfectly (just some force close issues with Google search widget) and ma battery life is superb..its also a fine ROM sha.....
