Please read my posts well. I never said weed did it to Majek, even though it's obvious weed could do it to a light headed person so I also agree that weed isn't for everyone. So there, we're on the same page. But I differ with you on the 2nd page with your submission that weed isn't addictive. I was there for nearly 20 years, struggling to be free, so for me, it was an addiction. I can't exchange your views for my personal experience, can I?

My dear friend, you have to permit me to express my own valid views too by saying people should ask Majek. It seems you've not been reading many of the posts on this thread. I've read so many experiences shared by people here, which indicate near or complete madness even at just the first tote of weed. So, your submission that "weed can never do that to you" is definitely invalid. After all, Majek is not considered as mad and that means his case is not necessarily the worst experience.

Yes, there are some people with pot heads who are able to bear the effects of weed without running off the cliff; yes, weed can be a herbal medicine to treat some medical conditions; yes, weed may not be as damaging as coke, H, alcohol or even nicotine in some cases; yes, you may find the experience exhilarating... yes; yes; yes... But not starting drugs at all is much safer than trying and depending on it or going on to higher grounds with coke or H or going 'kolo' on it.

I'm not claiming to be holier than Majek. I too was once down that road for almost 2 decades, when I used to love it jumbo sized. I knew Majek Fashek too way back in the very early 80s. That was even before he had his first hit music. He was a regular visitor to a female colleague at work, who was tripping too and was also a popular part time actress in "Mirror in the Sun", one of the first popularized Nigerian soap apera, but is nowhere near fame or sight right now. Way back then we found his utterances interesting because of the jives and the music he could strum up on his guitar. It could even have been a source of inspiration for his music like in the case of Fela too. But there are definitely dangers associated in being addicted to pot, or even to anything else for that matter. And nobody can say that weed is not addictive and any form of addiction portends danger and caution.

No-one says you as a person has no right to turn yourself into what you like, but for you to encourage other people to emulate the same is not acceptable. There are youth and adolescents viewing this thread too. They need to be educated on the other choice of remaining weed free, rather than encouraging them that it's just a great trip to heaven becoming a pot head. I read a post by someone, who after being encouraged by the positive posts wished she too could go on the trip just to experience the 'great' feelings that are being potrayed. Way back in my school days, I had friends with whom I did stuff, but none of them is standing today. They are either dead from the effects and results of stoning or on the kolo mental road. What I always say to myself is, "it could have been me".

Israel is not the only nation that could be threatened. The Shiite-Sunni divide which is presently assuming more dangerous proportions with mass killings in Iraq, then the Hezbollah and Iranian Revolutionary Guards' intervention in Syria and Iranian diplomatic oppositions to Saudi and their allied Arab governments is a factor to make even the whole world jittery. I don't personally see a peace treaty signed here, but more or less a proposition for Iranian domination of Arabia and the Middle East and probably, if care is not taken, a war that would shake the whole area so violently that the whole world would reel at it's effects.

Excommunication would be a very mild and generous way of punishment for some of these insultive ones. I've seen pictures and documentary films of some of the gadgets used by Catholic priests and bishops in the Dark Ages for torturing 'heretics' but I wouldn't recommend that they pass the same discipline.

Mavister, don't let's generalize. It's not ALL Catholics that are like that. Probably, this chap is still too young to understand ethics and manners. I've met quite some decent and very knowlegeable Catholics, even on NL. Mostly, they just conclude by saying, "That is what the Catholic church teaches, and I'm a Catholic, so that is what I believe". They are right to say that because even Pope John Paul II in Vatican II book admitted that many of these doctrines are not in the Bible, but based on Catholic traditions. When you invite a soul to your church, do you ensure that the Pastor knows that you were the one who invited the soul, so that your pastor can praise you and mention your name from the pulpit to boost your reputation in the eyes of other members? Do you still indulge in self-seeking? (Rom. 2:8; James 3:14, 16). SCRUTINIZE YOUR HEART!!!
5. When you give in your church do you ensure that the church members see and know what you are giving? (Matt. 6:1). Do you secretly still yearn forthe praise of men? (John 12:43). INSPECT YOUR MIND??
6. Have you truly been crucified with Christ? Have you truly died to self? Have you decreased so that Christ might increase? Are you denying yourself daily, picking up your cross daily and following Jesus or is your flesh still seeking to ‘show-off’ and please itself? (Gal. 2:20; John 3:30; Matt. 10:38; 16:24). Do you know that, No self-denial, No Rapture ANALYZE THE THOUGHTS OF YOUR HEART!!!!
7. When someone insults you; do you get upset; do you take off your garment of holiness, lash out and insult the person right back; and then attempt to quickly wear your now-stained garment back again as if you were justified to act that way, or with the thought thatyou will repent later? Have you not come to the end of yourself yet? Should your flesh not have been totally crucified with Christ by now? Does the dead geteasily offended? Is gentlenessnot a fruit of the spirit? (Eph. 4:26; Rom. 6:6-23; Gal. 5:22-23). SEARCH YOUR HEART!!!
8. Are you a true soldier and disciple of Jesus? Do you still own your time, your money, your body; or have you completely surrendered your all to Jesus? Do you know that, NO total surrender, No Rapture (1 Cor. 9:27; 2 Tim. 2:3-4; Luke 14:27). EXAMINE YOUR LIFE!!!!
9. How much time do you spend dressing up to please others? Do you spend most of your time adorning and admiring yourself in the mirror, taking pictures and splashing them on facebook? Do you realize how many people plunge into hell every second you waste on worthless activities? Does the Master’s work mean nothing to you? CAN GOD SEARCH YOU AND FIND YOU INNOCENT
10. Are you still subtly boastful and full of yourself? Is your boast in the Lordor against the Lord? Do you boast in yourself, in evil or in men? Do you use your spiritual gifts to threaten specific people when they offend you? Do you lash out at them and say, ‘I will place a curse on you if you do such and such”? (James 4:16; Prov. 23:1; Psa. 5:5; 52:1; 75:4; 94:4; Ezek. 35:13). TEST YOURSELF!!!!
11. Are you sensitive to the needsof those around you or are you blinded by your pursuit of heaven that you have completely ignored those around you who need help? Are love, goodness and kindness not fruits of the Spirit? (Prov. 14:31; Isa. 58:6-11; Matt. 25:35-36). EXAMINE YOUR HEART!!!
12. Do you consult the Master before taking decisions or are you wise in your own eyes? Have you leaned unto your own understanding instead of seeking the Lord before taking any step whatsoever? 13. Who truly is your Master – you, your husband, your friends, your mind, your professional connections or the Lord Jesus?TEST YOURSELF!!!!
14. Do you tell lies, or exaggerate and then rationalize that your exaggeration is still closer to the truth than to lying? Do you for instance claim you have many shirts when indeed you have just 3 shirts? Do you, for instance, claim you are a very busy person when indeed you don’t have a job or occupation but only spend two hours in a day helping your mum with errands after which you retire to your room to watch cartoons the rest of the day, just so that you can escape the jeer of your friends? what of all those church legalizing gay marriages, that does not preach truth. those churches that allow women to put on miniskirts and trousers, and allow mm to plait their hair and even jerrycurlw their hair, churches that does support divorce and polygamy without speaking agiants it and many will think they are on the high to heaven not knowing they are on the high way to hell, what do you say to that?. so, the church that one attends matters a lot, which will also helo an individual to make heaven so long the truth is their. it is only a church without jesus and truth will make one to be doomed.

The Bible says, "Take heed lest there shall be any one that maketh spoil of you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ:" Col. 2:8

I have NEVER come across someone more ignorant when it comes to the practical truth of Christianity. You have kept on and on with your defence of a church and its standards whereas you should understand that Christianity is not about church, but about Jesus. You are yet to understand that no church is perfect. In the messages of Christ to the 7 churches in Asia Minor in the opening chapters of the book of Revelation, only 3 passed the mark, but none was adjudged perfect as all had their own deficiencies. What you quoted as the vices in other churches are mere child's play compared to what the book of Revelation blames the churches in Asia Minor for.

But you believe not only that your church has no flaws, but your pastor is also perfect. If it is the church you attend that matters, then none of those in the 4 churches in the book of Revelation would be saved. Yet, the Lord keeps referring to a remnant that are still keeping the faith in each and every one of them. I have seen people getting saved and maturing into adult Christians, even in churches where the preaching of the gospel is scanty, while many in churches where the "undiluted truth", as you put it, is preached remain immature and extremely dogmatic, carnal and without substance.

You also need to realize that God at times, intentionally places some true believers in some churches where there are deficiencies in order to correct and prune them to His standards. The Apostles kept attending the Jewish synagogues to preach, even though they were places with corrupted forms of worship of Jehovah at their time. So, to God, the church you attend is not as important as your heart. There are people saved in Catholic, Anglican, RCCG, DLBC, TREM, and other churches, not only your church. If you don't understand that, it means, you have very myopic understanding of Christ and His Church.

Unfortunately, you are one of those I tag as "worshippers of man-made gods" and one of those who make men of God to become arrogant and conceited and eventually fall because you worship them and their establishments rather than worshipping God. You are also a part in dividing the body of Christ by saying,

"... I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not men?

"What then is Apollos? and what is Paul? Ministers through whom ye believed; and each as the Lord gave to him." I Cor. 3: 4-5

You are merely behaving, as Apostle Paul described, as a carnal Christian. I will not be surprised to discover that your church activities are only a facade to prevent people from seeing through your real private life, which I believe CANNOT be a good Christian witness with the ways you interact even on the social network. I can't seem to put my finger on a light shinning through you. Only church dogmas.

I once read a comment you made in another post that all who attend Catholic church are on their way to hell. This is similar also to your pronouncements of hell fire in this your last post. Haba! You have already become the Christ to pronounce judgements of hell. Perhaps, we should interview some people who know you personally to discover that you are merely a church goer without true traces of Christian virtues of love, devotion, moderation and grace. There is a whole lot of difference between Christianlty and Churchianity, you know.

The Bible is very firm in condemning what you are gleefully engaging in by trying to prove that one church is the good one or the better one, but you cannot even see that the line you are towing is very wrong. You are vehement against wrong practices in other churches, but you see none, absolutely none, in your own church. But I have personally been duped by some of your members before, yet, you believe that it is in your church only (and probably churches like your church) that God has established true salvation. I am very disappointed with the way you present your arguments. I will recommend that you transform by the renewal of your mind in learning at the feet of Christ and the Holy Spirit, rather than sticking to the traditions of men.

I would not have bothered with responding to you, but for the fact that you are leading others astray too with preaching church rather than Christ, just as so many others who hold their church leaders in higher esteem than Christ Himself. I have NOT read you extolling Christ, only your church. I perceive that you may as well be a senior person in that church, whom others are looking up to for guidance, but what you are sowing is not right way of Christian thinking and it will affect them too.

"The breakaway faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) otherwise known as the New PDP has said that five more state governors, some National Assembly members and former governors have dumped the Bamanga Tukur-led PDP and have since indicated their interest to join the nPDP.

The splinter group said it has therefore constituted a committee for the reception of the new entrants into its fold.
The group in a statement made available to journalists and signed by it national publicity secretary, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, yesterday, said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the nPDP held its monthly meeting at the weekend in Abuja to review developments and chart the way forward for the party.

He added that the meeting, which was presided over by the faction’s national chairman, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, also set up a 6-man Reception Organising Committee saddled with the responsibility to set in motion the reception in honour of the five more unnamed serving governors, ex-governors, “key” National Assembly members and others it described as “Nationalists” of the PDP who, according to him, have decided to join the faction.

The Committee is headed by the National Vice Chairman of the faction, Sam Jaja with the National Organising Secretary Nasir Isa Abubakar as the Secretary of the Committee. Other members include the National Treasurer Abubakar G. Umar, the Women Leader Binta Masi Garba, the Youth Leader Timi Frank, and the National Public Secretary Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze. The statement said the Committee was directed to submit for immediate consideration by the G-7 Governors, the venue, logistics and modalities for the reception.

The group also said it welcomed the initiative of the National Security Adviser (NSA) to President Jonathan, Sambo Dasuki, to further broker peace amongst the G-7 Governors, PDP and the Presidency “knowing the implication of the continued crisis on governance and the security of the nation.”

It said the NSA has once again by this act demonstrated that he is a statesman unlike some of the “hawks” in the Presidency who prefer that the crisis in the party continues, saying some against reconciliation are deceiving the President into thinking that they love him more than those in the nPDP while they are actually engineering his political misfortune.

It added that: “NWC commended the nPDP leadership, including both the Caucus and NWC members, for turning the party into the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics in view of the fact that we hold the key to decide the next President of Nigeria come 2015. The NWC considered other options in case our talks with President Jonathan fail to produce the desired result and concluded that our door should be opened to the APC option, while not ruling out other options that would give us the leverage in reshaping the polity come 2015.”"

Sorry, it seems I'm talking over some heads here. You may not know Andrew unless you were up to the age of understanding in the early 80s. Then, there was this government promo on TV to encourage Nigerians stay at home to develop the nation during Idi Agbon's "War Against Indiscipline", WAI campaign. The military had taken over power and the junta led by Buhari and Idi Agbon had a firm grip on the nation for their perceived purpose of stamping out corruption. I must confess, they did to a large extent succeed, but with gross partiality in some cases, though, until Babangida outsted them and reinstitutionalized a new form of 'corruption by patronage'.

Late actor, Enebeli Omobuwa (I hope I got that name right) was renamed "Andrew" by Nigerians because he played the part of a character 'Andrew', who suddenly packed his bag and baggage and solioquised on his way to the airport to exit Nigeria for good on TV: "I'm tired, men, I'm checking out. Methink, maybe before he died, he would have wished that he finally checked out because most of those who did have better to show for leaving Nigeria now. A lot of Nigerians in diaspora have been able to work hard abroad and send back home money to build houses and for upkeep of their families while many those who were encouraged in hope by government to stay are still here just trying to make ends meet. Unfortunately, the politicians still continue to encourage us to hope in their false promises based on their inabilities to build a better Nigeria.

ALL SOULS’ DAY (November 2nd), as we all know, is the special day set aside by Holy Mother Church in the month of November for masses to be said in honour of the faithful departed,and for the relief and ultimate release of the Holy Souls in Purgatory.
The traditional Octave for this Solemnity is on the 8th day (a week) after the Feast day; thus, allowing for Holy Mother Church to befittingly remember the Dead by saying the same solemn Requiem Mass, all week long, with the same spiritual value as on the Feast day.
Thus, like the numerical figure “eight” ( which is the vertically aligned Greek symbol of “Infinity” (∞) and as a notation with neither a beginning nor an end, the celebration of a Liturgical Octave symbolizes the never-ending adoration of God by His Elect in Eternity, while giving a foretaste of thisDivine experience to members of His Church Militant on earth.
As faithful Catholics, therefore, in one way or the other we may have offeredup some physical or spiritual good works of mercyfor our beloved dead on All Souls Day (and, perhaps too, during the just-ended Octave week); with the most meritorious of them all, being the highest important Catholic public worship which we assisted at in theirhonour, and the prayer intentions we presentedtherein for them in the greatestand most efficacious prayer forthe ChurchSuffering- THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS. May the Good Lord bless us all for all meaningful homage paid to Him, on behalf of the Holy Souls at thosetimes.
This being said, we must not hastenour stepsto leave the presence of Almighty God after we have prayed for our dead loved ones on All Souls’ Day and its allotted Octave period.
Contraryto this, we must at best, remember them each day of our lives, and offerup the merits of some good works of ours,for their spiritual benefit; for nothing is more glorious to God, nothing gives more honour to His Holy Name, nothing rejoices His Heart more, nothing is more pleasing to Him, than charityfor the “Poor Souls”, which opens Heaven to them, to increase the number of thosewho praise and glorify God, and the number of pure hearts thatlove Him for all eternity.
“Such a work,” says Bourdaloue(the ‘king of preachers’), “is an apostolate more noble, more meritorious, than the conversionof sinners, and even of heathens.” ; for the prayers forthe conversionof living sinners are often hindered by their free will choice to remain obstinate in their evil ways, making our evangelization for their repentance much more difficult; but the soulsin purgatory, who have no exercise of theirfree will, and who now see their folly for their many previous mistakesin their earthly life, make efficient use of every consolation thatcomes to them from the Divine per our prayer requeststo Heaven forthem. Every prayer for the poor soulsis eventually useful, as it either brings them comfort in their presentsufferings, or contributesto their final discharge from the Prison of Divine Justice.
So important is devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory that, Holy Mother Church, not only sets apartan Octave and a Feast day on Her Liturgical Calendar for their commemoration (especially in the three (3) compulsory masses meant to be offeredby every priest onthe Feast day), but also She dedicates the whole month of November for this cause. Thus, recommended pious practices that can be observed by the Church Militant during this whole month of November and any other times of the year to aid thesesouls include:
1. Assisting at mass and offering mass intentions in honourof them.
2. Making the sacrament of Penance in atonement for poor souls.
3. Visiting the cemetery or the grave of our beloveddead, to offerprayers forthem there.
4. Sprinkling Holy Water to as a sign of nourishment and quenching of their thirst.
5. Saying the Holy Rosary in their memory.
6. Making the Stations of the Crossto unite their passions with that of the Christas form of consolation to them.
7. Praying other devotional prayers like the Chapletof the Poor Souls, Litanies, etc… all in their honour.
8. Offering up all our ordinary but decentdaily routines, good works and the merits which come from them, for the sufferingsouls.
As already mentioned, masses offered for the poor soulsis the greatestact of charity to them. Thus, since it is customaryand even just courteous to usually give somesought of stipend (big or small) for this cause in our parishes, as a way of appreciating the efforts and timeof the priests who say thesemasses, for the purchase of items used forthe massessaid, and also for helping the Churchin Her general financial upkeep, Church Fathershave often recommended the unique pious practiceof gathering small money changes, and putting them away till a substantial amount is reached where it can be given for masses to be said forthe poor souls.
Saint John Chrysostomin his days, recommended to every Christian family thatthey have a box at some convenient place in the house forthe collection of pennies, which were to be used in having masses said for the poor souls.
This was in order not to burden the faithful with greatfinancial responsibility for this exercise, but ratherto have these pennies which often have no economical use or value to many and are disregarded and thrown away, to be put to good use.
In our day when giving for the causeof the well-being of the physically poor in our society as a corporal work of mercy has even become so difficult for many due to cold love, how many will be willing then to even give huge notes for mass intentions forthe dead? How many will not come up with excuses fortheir inability to supportthis devotion with their material substance? Thus the need for this generation to revive practice of PRAYER-PENNIES FOR PURGATORY’S POOR.
Yes, they are “poor” by virtue of the spiritual debt thatthey owe to the Divine Justice of HisMajesty, and we help pay and cancel their debts by prayers.However, these prayers can also be symbolized in the physical moneys we contribute for the prayers said forthem at the altar of God, and any “poor” person appreciates even the minutest show of concerntowards amnestyfrom their owing balances.
Poor and sinful Humanity’s salvation was bought by the Most Precious and Priceless Blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; and in union with Him, He calls us to do likewise, (however little) for the sanctification of our beloved dead, with our finite material resources, for their infinite spiritual gain and our own future eternal reward.
Having come to know of this, may we be inspired to begin this pious tradition in our homes from henceforth, especially in this Month of November, in order to gatherup enough changes fora special requiem mass for our beloved dead at least by the end of the month.
Currencies varyfrom place to place, but it is especially expected to put away at least, the smallest of denominations of whatever currency we spendfor this honorable cause.
May the Holy Souls in Purgatory who are so grateful foreven the tiniestexpression of love towards them, reward us, as we resolve to do theselittle things forthem. Amen.

In Libya, Nigerians are still suspect in protecting Ghadaffi, and many are still languishing in prisons, plus, they are burning Churches and forcing Christians to convert under threat of beheading.

In Sudan, you may be caught up in North-South conflicts over control of oil.

In Tunisia, there are many Nigerians already, trying to cross the desert to Europe, so it can't be 'Uhuru'.

In Ethiopia, you have only the maize farms to work on and I doubt if a Nigerian would want to fit into the rigors of subsistence farming with cutlass and hoe. Even then, where is the land for you in a country fast encroached by desertification?

We'd better find ways to get our acts together as a nation so we can enjoy Nigeria. Even, "Andrew" died without being able to check out!!!
