I like you. You are a believer.

Good boy.

No be you deliver ZANU PF message saying candidates must post "maturely" ni to qualify?

I think the only criterium should be who uses "cretin" the most. tongue grin

Thank you.

If I owned NL, alot of tribalistic people would have been permanently booted off in the first place, not to talk of qualifying for voting.

Secondly, I don't think democratic votes is the best approach for the Politics section nomination or even final voting. It might be for other areas but not Politics. I (with a few select others) would nominate 5-10 people, anyone that does not like it can make good use of a rope. Nominations that select cretins, especially like GenBuhari, can never make sense.

houvest, am I not right? Am I not a genius?
Hehehe. Funny one there However I do not see you as a genius but as a fellow big brother. Just as you are watching out against cretins, I am watching out against lack of objectivity.
Lmao.

Unfortunately I have something due in a few hours so don't have the time. But can someone else debunk these two points? They are both flat out lies.

And what of a poster who focuses on only one area, and in fact does poorly in that (Onlytruth)?

You guys simply are not being objective. Ethnic sentiment has clouded your judgements.

Several points:

1. I may or may not be an "ethnic bigot", but you'll be hard-pressed to find hard evidence of it. I invite you to search through my posts and find any post that show ethnic bigotry w/o any provocation. I issued this challenge in the past, and no one took it up.
2. I don't care about Yoruba ethnic sentiment. If I did, believe you me I'd be a lot nicer to certain posters I've been a bit of an @ss too. However, what is more relevant here is that one unqualified individual is cashing in on ethnic sentiment, while neither of the other two (at least from what I've seen) have benefited from this.
3. I repeat, there has never been a single thread on this entire forum in which Onlytruth has bested me. My posting history is open, as is Onlytruth's. You can spend the next several hours looking for one if you like. And if you find such a thread, feel free to link to it. Or even better, bump it!
4. I don't have any hatred. . . there is simply nothing worth hating. I don't hate on someone for saying Derek Fisher is better than Kobe, I call such a person an id1ot, or believe that they are Derek Fisher's pikin.
For goodness sake who do you really think you are? Besting everybody? I have told you that whatever opinion you hold about yourself  or others is your opinion.  You can only cram it down the throats of some  lilly- livered folks. Opinion is an a- hole. Everybody has one. You do not have more rights to your opinion than the next person so please stop annoying us with these condescending posts. Just climb down from that high horse and put on some robe of humility. What ever you think you are, you do not know what the next person is. We do not all come here waving our certificates or iq test results or other accomplishments so please stop this. Ok you are better than onlythruth. Kats and Gbawe are better than him. Infact he is a dullard . Happy now? You are asking folks to cite posts but you keep on putting down only truth without citing one post to back yourself up. Just what I posted before :Different rules for different folks.
PoliticsRe: *~ Gbawe Voted The Politics Section Poster Of The Year *~ Congratulations by houvest: 12:29am On Dec 17, 2011
PointB:
I have seen call for merger between Gbawe and Kats, but I am yet to see any specific call for votes on ethnic line. What Houvest did was an innocuous appeal to me to help rally support for his candidate OnlyTruth for nomination. The appeal was not made on this thread, and if you noticed, I tactically ignored it. Nevertheless, there is nothing to suggest that OnlyTruth would not have emerged whether Beaf was banned or not, banning Beaf (rightly or wrongly) may or may not have helped the emergency of  OnlyTruth.

But in tacitly admitting without solid evidence (note that Jarus claimed you both  currently don't know the direction of the voting since it's secret) that this election is trending ethnically rather suggesting otherwise, you have helped whipped up the ethnic sentiment. Therein lie my disappointment.

To be fair, I don't agree with bigoted view of Gbawe on many issues; I don't read the long articles of Kats, nor I am impressed with the pretense of ekt_bear, how can I nominate or vote for them.

Wouldn't it have been better if you and Jarus had suggested that people are not supporting them because they don't agree with them on issues, rather than the simplistic and over-flogged ethnic reasons? If that suggestion does  not hold for you, then perhaps the idea of protest vote due to banning of Beaf is tenable. But simply buying into the idea that every unusual and 'inexplicable' event can be excused as ethnicism is a defeatist and escapist approach to dealing with reality.

Gbawe, Ekt_bear and Kats are popular among some people, just as Beaf, OnlyTruth and some other are popular in their own sphere. None of these people are better than the other - they are just different in their approach to issues. That is my opinion.
My brother. NL is becoming  akin to a cult where there are those of the inner circle. NL is actually helping me understand the psyche of people from every part of the country. For some there are times to be rational, and times not to. There  are those who are guilty till proven innocent, for some others , they are innocent till proven guilty. Objectivity becomes subjective to whom you are dealing with. We must continue exposing such here untill things change and there are no more us and them . This polling is helping expose the hipocrisies.

PointB:
It is only disgruntled people and those who are too full of themselves that will believe that support for OnlyTruth is ethnically biased.
What exactly does Gbawe do here, if not to rave and rant against anything  GEJ and PDP and hail and sell anything Tinubu, Aregbe and the ACN goons? How can such one way person be the best - well perhaps in the kingdom of the blind.

As for Kats, if the topic is not about (actually against Biafra) you hardly notice him, so the less said of him the better.

OnlyTruth stands for justice, a deviation from the past, and a new direction.

If he wins, he won simply because people believe he is the best; all this attempt (including by the mods) to undermine his credibility and immense contribution actually strengthens it.

I am actually disappointed with the Mods - Jarus and OAM4J, for their insinuations that the vote is trending towards ethnic bias. How exactly did you determine that? Or do you prefer few voters to decide the outcome like previous, when 38 people decided the winner, or a more robust and informed voters creating the necessary awareness and making the vote more competitive? I just dont understand while you both will make comments that undermine your own poll. It is quite unfortunate to put it mildly!
My brother I tire for this n l. Untill the breeze blows.-----

Bros, I tried same for this year too but got stuck along the way when I realized I couldn't find for ALL of them. I just struck out that part.

That said, this is no vote of no confidence on this year's but I think the introduction of voting along ethnic lines affected the quality this year. Notwithstanding, we have to respect the decision of the majority and crown whoever emerges the winner; especially as none of the rules we highlighted up there has been breached.
Voting is still going on, init? You can ask the niminees to forward to you  a list of their 5 best posts to choose from. Those nominees all very active posters unlike some of us. They have over 5,000 posts apiece I believe. I wonder how there is none to choose from for some of them.
You misunderstood.

My post doesn't claim that I am the best (though personally I think that a very strong argument can be made for me).

For a variety of reasons, that isn't what is important.

What is important is having a legitimate vote in which the best poster is chosen, or at least someone who can make a strong claim.

Last year, Jarus selected a standout post from each person. I guess he went through their posting history and found what he found representative.

Now, suppose that he had done that again this year. A post/thread from Katsumoto, Gbawe, and OnlyTruth, and suppose that we used that to inform our decisions.

Now, if you wanted to choose one from Kats, there is a ton to choose from. If you want to choose for Gbawe, many good posts. For OnlyTruth. . . there would be nothing.

The fact of the matter is that all of us here know that there is absolutely no comparison between say Katsumoto's best posts and OnlyTruth's best post. Both in breadth, depth, and quality.

OnlyTruth sef will probably admit that the quality level of Kats's posts is higher.

Like I said, the guy isn't even in the top 10. Yet for purely ethnic reasons, he got the highest # of votes.

As I said before, if you guys want to vote:

1) a monkey
2) an inanimate object
3) Beaf
4) OnlyTruth

as your best poster of the year, be my guest.

But all four of those items above, if they supposedly got more votes than a guy like Katsumoto, then it tells me that those voting bluntly speaking are

(a) voting for tribal reasons,
(b) are id1ots,
(c) or both.
This is more like a campaign of calumny against Onlytruth. Polls are made for the reason of getting  the opinions of a cross section in other to determine a winner. If the best is already known, what then is the need for a poll?
Now your opinion is that Onlytruth is not as good as the others. These are your opinions. Of course you have the right to be opinionated but that is just what it is - opinion.
Obviously this is just supposed to be a fun little online poll without much significance, but nevertheless it annoys me that a very incorrect result will likely happen for pretty dumb tribal reasons.

Like, we know who is better than who. Or at least who is in the same zip code as who.

Of the posters that remain, I would vote Kats, Gbawe (in that order) both of whom are (at least in my opinion) >>>> OnlyTruth.

Hell, just go through the posting history of Katsumoto for example and compare it to that of OnlyTruth. Is there any comparison whatsoever? A guy who posts on a broad array of issues, versus one who is a one trick pony. And truth be told, doesn't even do that trick very well.

Yet it would be foolish for me to vote for Katsumoto simply because that increases the chance of a guy who isn't even in the same zip code as the best winning.

If the people demand that it be tribalized, then you may as well go all the way.

In future years, you may as well do "Best Yoruba poster", "best Igbo poster", etc. And then pit the best of each head-to-head, so all of them can cash in on their respective block ethnic vote.

Anyway, I am beginning to understand a bit why there is ethnic wahala in Nigeria, even in innocous things. If one can do this for a simple vote of best poster (voting for a guy not even in the top ten purely due to ethnic sentiment), then obviously with more serious matters people will also behave stvpidly.
Since the three nominees are not in your zip code. Can you please humour us. Who should have been in the top 3?

What assumptions did I make? I was merely pointing out the assumptions that you made.
BTW, what insults? I ridiculed the fact that you 'consider' yourself to be some sort of 'Big Brother'. On second, third, and fourth thoughts, don't you consider that to be laughable?

Your candidate may win the poll but don't think we don't know why.
What really are you mad at here? That I called Ndigbo to visit this thread and vote? Are they not qaulified to vote? Is NL voting reserved for only one ethnic group? You prefer them to remain in ignorance of this thread and to be disenfrachised? And you are mad because Onlytruth got 22 nominations? Is he not articulate enough to be nominated here? What really is unsavoury or sectional in calling people to go and vote? You tell me? What is unsavoury is disenfranchising folks through lack of information which clearly you prefer ? What is unsavoury is trying to win at all costs through alliances which I have never advocated. Let every Nairaland be properly informed so he can exercise his voting rights and may the best win. Katsumoto 16 (42.1%)
Kobojunkie 5 (13.2%)
Dapobear 17 (44.7%)

So how can only 38 votes out of thousands determine who is the section poster of the year? Why do folks like you want to enthrone mediocrity by disenfranchising folks? Duduknight:
Dude give it a rest, the objective of your rallying call is obvious to many. When did you conduct a census of posters to know how many posters or readers are in the politics section? Besides, the turnout of an election is of no concern to a voter; the job of a voter is to decide whether to exercise his/her right to vote. Whether 38 people voted or 2 million voted, the results are declared from those who voted and not those who could have voted. If you were so concerned about voter turnout, why didn't you visit every thread, announcing that a poll was in effect so that a maximum number can vote? Instead, you seized on a poll for an Eze Ndigbo of NL to rally other Ndigbo to vote. Your approach was sectional and ethnic. When you start it, you feel smart. When others join in, you start complaining and crying just like you did in your post that I quoted.

Can one really ascertain the number of posters in the politics section with a huge number of posters having multiple ids. Posters such as Mekus with 1000s of monikers. Even Andrew Uweh has at least 4 ids (including Ngodigha and abadabada). In your post, you called on PointB to rally Ndigbo to vote. What was the point of that? Is PointB a moderator in any section? The point I made, and by which I stand, is that OnlyTruth gained 16 nominations because of your rallying call. Everyone that voted for him after that post was Igbo. It is not for me to decide whether he is articulate enough to be nominated.

You clearly arrogate a lot of importance to yourself; very typical. Who made you Big Brother? You made yourself Big Brother because you are old or what? You will not sit back and watch any shenanigans anymorehuh??  Dude, it is just an online election in an anonymous forum. Don't make it more than it is. By the way, what are the shenanigans? That 38 out of an indeterminate number of posters voted in an online election is what you term shenanigans.  SMDH
After all those assumptions you made up there, unless you are a mod masquerading with another moniker, Now can you answer my questions reasonably without asking me to become nairaland resident visiting each thread or questioning my right to post in any thread I choose and to whom I wish,

That said, I agree with ekt-bear that this poll may not throw up the best in this section this year. And that's a pity.
I have seen nomination and voting along ethnic lines, which is very unfortunate. The 3 finalists last year were clearly the best and most analytical for that year, save few people that are equally good but not so active like Afam and Maxsiollun, hence did not get a look at.

The reason why the 2009 edition for this section was not officially recognised was because of a flawed process which threw up Becomrich as winner - and I'm talking about Becomrich of 2009, not that of today, who is now saner. The mod then did not help matters, as rules of the games were not stated.

Notwithstanding, this is politics section, dwelled not only by critics and analysts, but also politicians, so we cannot totally rule out politics, much as we want objectivity to be the guiding factor. I personally voted for Katsumoto, though my views on issues converge more with Gbawe's than Katz, whose views are usually at variance with mine on most issues, but I recognize his good arguing skills and fact-based debates, as well as his knowledge of political history.
It is sad that you the umpire said this. Now can you declassify the voting of last year and show us who voted for who among the 38 voters so we know along what line they voted. If you are already giving this voting a label, then take it down so we do not waste our time here. WTH. You are here giving more credence to last years poll but you conveniently forget that many of us complained that it was a sham when Beaf was removed in the middle of the process, at a time when his supporters could not switch to another candidate and so boycotted the rest. To you, those  three were the best. To me  and others, definitely not and later events have proved it. So may we keep our opinions out of the poll and stop demoralising folks from voting. One more thing, let's have an open ballot to assure everyone of transparency since you are already labelling this. As I agree with only point 2 of your reasons for making it a secret ballot, Let every one who registered once voting has started be prevented from voting.

Show me where i criticize Rochas? Infact, i ranked Rochas above most governors in Nigeria.

Like i earlier said, you should stop ego whorshipping and unneceessary beating of chest.

Now, what would have happen if a governor from west appoints a special adviser on Enugu or Abia matters??
You call 10 lines and 3 paragraphs long essay? LMAO. You aint seen nothing yet. If the governor from the west does it for a good reason, why not? If you ranked Rochas high, why then do you call those commending him as worshippers? If however they do, no skin pain. We have had so many looters that correct governors should receive all the accolades. And if you call Imolites hero-worshippers, where have you been? Have you not been seeing the real hero worshippers on NL . Look in the mirror brother.

dagboss:
My take on this-if truly Ojukwu is a hero like the Igbos want other Nigerians to believe, changing UNN to his name should not be a big deal. Are you opponents telling me that UNN is bigger that the Great Ojukwu? What a pity. After all what the hell is the significance of the Nigeria in the name? Does it make it greater than Schools like OAU or even Uniben UI or ABU. There is absolutely nothing spectacular about the school. I had the opportunity to visit the campus sometimes late 1979 together with my late uncle who was a Champion Brewery Uyo distributor. On our way to Uyo We branched at the campus to see his friend who also comes from our home town, he was reading one education course that time. That evening he took us to their main Cafeteria which was so rowdy like a prison cafe and they served boiled yam with  stew that looked like the poo of a goat that is suffering from congenital diarrhea. grin grin grin grin I  left the food untouched.
1979. Wow. 32 years ago. Assuming you were between 10 and 20 years of age then, that makes you between 42 and 52 years old now. Clearly at your age, you are expected to be wiser. My dear brother, Would you not respect your age instead of posting the kind of thing you did there. How would the younger ones learn to respect others if the older ones have no such courtesies? So you made a one day stop over at UNN 32 years ago and that has made you an expert in judging its greatness 32 years after. So the food in the cafe was like crap, and so what? All the great men she has produced ate them and they did not affect their productivity . That your townsman did not quit the school, did he? He completed his programme and is probably  a great man today. OMG. Does the cloak of anonymity on NL make folks to throw away all forms of sensibilities? Did anybody talk about OAU or ABU or Uniben here? If the name Nigeria is insignificant, why are folks killing themselves over it? On the other hand, If it is so important to be in Abuja, then rename UNN University of Biafra to maintain the vision of the founding fathers. That will be a greater honour to Ojukwu.

So in the logic of posters here, the test of the loyalty of Igbos to Ojukwu is in their agreeing to let go of the name Nigeria  in UNN for Ojukwu. LMAO.
Why do you people take pride in lying, ego worshipping and chest beating? . . .schools have been fed in the north as away to encourage enrollment, as far back as late 90's.

How does it feel to be leading a self-decieving life? . . .Now, what do you have to say about your "Almighty Rochas" appointing a special assistance assigned with responsibility to study the development taking place in Lagos and how to replicate it in Imo?
Clap for yourself for your righteous indignation. Whatever. Whether it has been done in the North or South before does not matter. The issue is Rochas introduced it in this dispensation. Period. Others are copying from it and refining it which is good. Kwankwanso used it in the 90s and so what.?Why did he forget all about it till Rochas came up with it ?. Now he has just re- launched it in Kano. Lagos tried it before but it did not work so they forgot all about it but now they are going back to it . OBJ tried it but it did not work . Why not give credit to whom it is due instead of using minimalism and condescension? Rochas rediscovered it, now GEJ is asking every state to adopt it.

Your interpretation of the role of his assistant on Lagos affairs is childish but even assuming( not conceeding) that it is to copy what is in Lagos state, what is wrong with that? Nothing wrong in copying good examples but giving credit where it is due is my point. Read the thread I cited and tell me if the hoopla then was justified but now it can be rationalised because other states are trying to do something similiar.

Similiar minimalism and condescension greeted his free kerosine https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-729651.0.html and free education https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-678500.0. html free school uniforms, etc. There are folks here whose stock in trade is to shoot down every Rochas innovation but are quick to glorify the same thing when others do same when it is just a glorified version of the same thing or because foreigners are involved. That is the point I was trying to make . So please come down from your high horse. You and all those folks and encourage those in governance that want to make a difference even if they are not from your Gzone.
