raumdeuter: Actually no.
Guardiola needs defenders who combine many attributes e.g Good at defence, ability to pass and are very quick to cover the acres of space his team leaves behind in a high line
What is the difference between the Umtiti that Deschamps is using and Laporte, is Umtiti doing so much defending at Barcelona? Umtiti was a defender before he got to Barcelona. Barcelona or not, he can scrap physically, and is fast enough. Someone wrote that Laporte is considered averagely strong but not strong enough. . . . .average pace but not quick enough. That sounds Skodran Mustafi-ish. |

popizaino: The same flocks who claims pep guardiola always work with world class players are now telling us how bad a player Laporte is because he can't seems to get the national team call up Defensive quality of centre-back has never mattered to Guardiola as his centre-backs do little defending. Guardiola only needs Laporte for his passing, while Deschamps need Laporte to actually defend. |

Anyone interested in the case should read up here: https://www.grantthornton.co.uk/insights/quantum-matters--record-usd6.6bn-award-against-nigeria/In summary, the clueless Fortunato Goodluck and Diezani signed an agreement to pipeline wetgas to P&ID in 2010. By 2013, Nigeria had failed to build pipelines to deliver the wetgas and Nigeria was in breach of contract. Good luck initiated and failed the contract. P&ID had spent $40m on their end and sued Nigeria in 2015, for which the judge awarded them $7bln. INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION Quantum matters – Record USD6.6bn award against Nigeria
On 16 March 2018, a BVI-based engineering and project management company sought to enforce in the US a USD6.6 billion award it obtained in January 2017 against Nigeria. This is one of the highest arbitral awards known to date. It shows the importance of the Respondent challenging facts, assumptions and calculations provided by the Claimant and of providing alternative evidence to the Tribunal.
Background In January 2010, Process and Development Limited (P&ID or the Claimant) and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Nigeria or the Respondent) entered into a 20-year Gas Supply and Processing Agreement (GSPA). Under this agreement Nigeria would supply Wet Gas to P&ID, who would process it in a newly-built facility and return it in the form of Lean Gas. P&ID could then sell the by-products of the refinement process (natural gas liquids (NGLs) for their own profit.
Nigeria did not make arrangements for the agreed supply of Wet Gas, including building the necessary pipelines. In March 2013, P&ID treated this failure as a repudiation of the GSPA. By that date PI& estimated that it had invested USD40 million in the project, although it had not yet acquired the land or built the facilities.
In July 2015, an ad hoc tribunal seated in London decided that Nigeria was liable to damages to P&ID. In a majority decision in January 2017, the tribunal awarded USD6.6 billion in damages to P&ID. The dissenting opinion estimated the loss at USD250 million over three years.

hailall: Buhari should come OUT and defend this allegations, our economy is down, owing a company over 9b is worrisome You should pose your question to Jonathan who signed a deal that would leave Nigeria owing the equivalent of 1/3rd of it's yearly budget. Nigeria's budget is $29bln FYI. If Buhari did not renege on honouring this stupid and most likely grossly corrupt deal, he would be leading Nigeria into suicide. Zoogerians quick to type but can't read and process info correctly. In 2010, P&ID signed a 20-year contract with the Nigerian government to create a new natural gas development refinery, but the project fell through after the Nigerian government reneged on its contractual commitments.
The most recent court decision at a London tribunal confirmed that the Nigerian government owes P&ID almost $9bn for the initial breach of contract, loss of income, additional costs, and interest accrued after five years of non-payment. |

raumdeuter: Real Madrid defending has been shambolic and Sergio Ramos is often out of position and plays a lot of "as the spirit leads" defending. Do you know how many shots their keepers face per game?
Did you read what Maldini said about tackles? PING! Ibime: Have you ever seen me rate Ramos here? I give a phuck what he won. He is a mistake-prone defender.
Pepe is the organiser. That's why no defensive combination works for Real except Pepe+one other. Anytime they pair Ramos with Varane it's a disaster, but any combination with Pepe in it is stable whether Pepe- Varane or Pepe-Ramos.
There are things we look for in defence that you would not notice, not glitz and glamour. It's not by overexuberance that makes us rate defenders, it's those who organise their teammates well as a unit. |

Any coach has his reasons for not calling up a certain player just like many thought ignoring Sane was ludacris Why can't Laporte be called up as 3rd CB instead of Adil Rami? |

Leyqute: You already used the phrase, Ibime
If you watched the match and understand my comment you'll understand what I'm saying.
V. Kompany seems to have lost his defensive abilities. His best moments on the pitch today was making a couple of penetrative passes to attackers deep in opposition half. Instead, he should be leading the defense to combat the loadful of goals they shipped in.
YNKB! A defender does not lose brain to defend. He only loses his physicality. No defender who has kpafuka as a CB can convert to midfield. If CB don kpafuka, e don kpafuka finish. YNKB! |

There is no French coach that won't pick a white player if he is good enough. Laurent Blanc and FFF members were even caught discussing the need to reduce black players and increase white players a few years back in order to keep the teams European identity https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2011/may/05/laurent-blanc-race-row-french |

Leyqute: Kompany sef is nearing his end.
He's now more suited for a DM position, making penetrating passes to Hazard in the opposition half. What makes you think someone that can't handle CB physically will be able to play midfield? Centreback is the easiest position to play physically because you get more recovery time between actions, unlike midfield where running never stops. That's why some centrebacks like John Terry would continue playing with broken back for 10 years, whilst Ledley King would play CB for 10 years without cartilage in his knees. They could never try that in midfield. When I gained weight after an injury, I switched position from striker to centreback for my last year of uni football. I should use one famous Elampiro phrase on you right now - YNKB! |

Aguero was like no5 on the list or so despite playing for City. One thing all FPL players know is that Aguero hardly ever scores away from home. 80% of his goals is at Etihad. |

A 6 ft 4 striker with the pace and dribbling of a winger (which he was till recently), and the touch and strength of an Ibrahimovic. As a coach, you can play any kind of game with that sort of striker, whether it is long ball muscle game, tippy tappy game or counterattack game. Whatever pattern the game is going, Arnautovic will be in the game. I can't say the same for any other strikers. |
