Culture › Re: Do You Believe In These Superstitions? by ifyalways(f): 5:48pm On Aug 26, 2012
@ onyi, we have African voodoo, Brazilian voodoo, Haitian voodoo. etc so its not just an African affair.

Voodoo is a complex subject to discuss. As a religion based on spells and spirits etal and as with other spirit based religions, it have effects on people. Believe it or not.

People are suppressed, hypotised without drugs but by subtle and firm suggestions/ instructions aided by faith (in whatever they believe). The human mind is capable of doing any and every thing.

If people can believe that a man can "hear from god" in the night or can cure by flinging his handkerchief , why would it sound strange that people communicate with spirits?
Culture › Re: Do You Believe In These Superstitions? by ifyalways(f): 5:08pm On Aug 26, 2012
Oga, I cannot define "your" reality for you. Whatever you believe on, works on your physce and puts a limit to your "realities"

Btw, that your Job story is bullshyte as far as I'm concerned. Sorry.
solomon111: so you mean, for voodoo to work on you,one must have wronged someone?
So,you mean those who are victims of voodoo, are those who hands are not clean?
Who did job offend, before he was visited with all kind of afflictions?
You are very funny. Unfortunately many people hold this erroneous view of yours.

Family › Re: My Dad Wants To Marry Again, A Yr After My Mums Demise. Advice Pls. by ifyalways(f): 2:46pm On Aug 26, 2012
I'm sure if it were the mom making such plans, she would have by now declared a witch, made to swear on every sango and amadioha shrine etc.
Men can eat their cake, have it, trash it and get away with it.

@OP, there's nothing really you or your siblings can do. Your dad is an adult not a child. I'm sure he must have thought it out well, started making plans and don't actually need your approval or consent. In the interest. Of peace, its best you and your brothers either be happy for him or remain indifferent.

Its his life and he don't owe you guys much again, not after seeing you guys through school. Accept and get used to that!

If it were my dad, I'll be happy for him. You just lost one parent, it wouldn't be wise to start petty squabbles that can lead to bigger issues with the one left.

Nairaland General › Re: When A Loved One Dies by ifyalways(f): 1:06pm On Aug 26, 2012
I personally give them space to grief. No visiting and poke nosing. Occasional phone calls and assistance using my discretion and that's just about that.

I'm highly emotionally and therefore not a good physical company for anyone in grief. Besides, I've lost a loved one, I healed with time, all alone.

How did you lose your money? Where you trading directly or you handed your money to someone else?

My advice is give him the 30K first then come up with a feasible monthly repayment plan from a sure, steady income eg salary.

Culture › Re: Do You Believe In These Superstitions? by ifyalways(f): 9:42am On Aug 25, 2012
now you are being funny Onyi,Voodoo is very much practiced and is a popular religion in the Carribbean and South of US

know what? this thread is not meant for enlightening ourselves but to project your idea that voodoo does not exist on others. undecided

cuteonyii: The only reason why you call him trickster is because i disclosed to you the secret behind his voodoo power right?.. otherwise you would have call him one the greatest voodoo man on earth.

It is very easy easy easy to deceive a typical african man in the name of voodoo because none of them will be eager to do research on the principle behind the so called voodoo. of course they already believe and accepted only one thing that they know and believe.

I still ask why is it only in the third world countries where clueless people dominated are the only place where voodoo is strongly practice and believed.huh

There are Igbo movies, you just have to ask the for it. Movies like Igbudu,Ikuku, ofor na ogu,Igwe Osuofia etc are all Igbo movies.

The best way,IMO to learn a language
is by speaking it.mix with Igbo speakers wherever it is you reside.it might be a slow process, even frustrating but keep conversing with them in Igbo.even in this thread, type whatever it is you want to say in Igbo,we'll keep correcting you and you'll be improving.

You can't learn by keeping your mouth shut and waiting for the day you'll be perfect.

What can you do?give us possible leads to work with.

Generally I would say :
Organising shows say once a week with local but popular artistes in the hotel.

Nkwobi, goat head, small chops, pepper soup and live band.

Massage and spa services.

Btw, hotel location should be factored in.

He said he worked for years, yes? So he ought to have a small thing for one corner.

A woman I know started soap making with 20K and today has 4 people working for her.

If he doesn't have anything now then he should go back and find a company to work for again. Aside gaining more experience, putting aside small money he would also have the opportunity to network and establish solid contacts with buyers, suppliers of raw materials etc. He can even get another like minded colleague and together they can pull out and start small.

My 2cents.

Are the health centers ready and equipped to handle this?

Are there really much differences between the health center and the traditional birth houses?

How many health centers do we have per village?

Putting the cart before the horse, IMO
