PataAlhaja:It's more of a Yoruba(Lagos) song, I guess. I live in the East, and I don't know the song. |
No award would ever please everyone, no matter how you go about it. There would always be a group of aggrieved fans and artistes, it's only natural. Everyone can't be a winner at the same time. But sincerely speaking, " Wo" by Olamide should win the street award, it doesn't get more street than that song. The penalty song that won, I haven't even heard of it here for once. |
gidgiddy:Amaechi is being an opportunist, playing a sick hide and seek games, don't be that naive to fall for it. Ikwerre is not Igbo, likewise Amaechi. Just a bunch of inferiority complex suffering Edoids that dumped their Edo language for our Igbo language. However, genuine Ikwerres like Uche Okwukwu that identifies with Ndiigbo should be accepted and treated right. We can accept them as Igbophilic people , without accepting their Ikwerre people. |
Naturally, I'm not in support of inviting non Igbo Nigerians to come and contribute here, no matter how genuine their intentions or contributions sound. Nothing good can come from such contributions. Ojukwu had Aluko, a man he trusted for ideas and shared plans with, we all know how it ended. Even though this is not the right platform for this discussion, but I suggest we limit acceptable contributions to only Igbos. We can't stop any none Igbo from contributing, but we can always ignore their contributions by not quoting them. And as for IPOB thing. IPOB control a large chunk of the Igbo Youth, and since the Youths are the real drivers of any productive society, it doesn't make sense to say that we shouldn't discuss about IPOB and their agitations here, after all, their agitation has real political and economic implications for Alaigbo. My advice is that we keep it all in moderation. Let's not convert this to another war zone thread. Ndewonu! |
Any Igbo person that falls for this, is demented. |
Similarly, Mbaise is Igbo, Ngwo is Igbo, even Asaba are Igbos that spill over to Delta. But Aboh, Ika and Ikwerre not only do they speak a language most Igbos can't understand (though may sound Igbo) also some of their dress, customs, food, dance, way of life is more like Ijaws, Urhobos and Binis. When you are ignorant, it's always better to keep quiet and don't dabble into things you know little about. |
You people should stop this embarrassing unity begging already. Ikas are language parasites. An Edo people who threw away their Edo language and took up our Igbo language. When you listen to that clip, you would realize that it is Igbo language spoken with Edo accent. Of course, I understood 80% of what they were saying, most Igbos would. But all that proves is that they learnt Igbo language, it doesn't make them Igbo. Let them be, it's just two LGAs for crying out loud. |
This confused Ikwerre man again? |
See, you need to stop being so unnecessarily bitter about how other groups of people choose to identify themselves. No body is being bitter about anything. You lots said you are not Igbos, and I'm merely concurring with your assertions by saying YES! You are indeed not Igbos. Now, I don't really have a dog in this fight because I don't really care much about tribe like the average Nigerian does. However, based on what I observed /experienced during my temporary stay in Nigeria, Igbos from the East were the ones who always considered Igboid minorities who come from outside the 5 core Eastern states to be lesser or inferior Igbos. Now this is bull crap, we all went to war and came back to now see people we once answered Igbos with, calling us Igbos, denying and embarrassing us before other Nigerians, just to escape the "Igbo stigma" Nigerian government promoted post civil war. Of course, the natural course of action would be to fight back at those who seek to ridicule us. As for your stories of some Igbos from SE ridiculing you for your Igbo dialects, it happens everywhere, when I went to Abia State for the first time as a young adult, seeing as I speak Idemili/ Enugu Urban Igbo, my Aba friends often laugh at my language, they thought it was funny when I say something like " Yego dim ifedi" for "give me this thing", they Nick named me "Ifedi" in scornful way, because I used it alot and couldn't help myself. If you come to Onitsha and speak Imo/Abia dialects, they would laugh at you and call you "onye imo", in not a soul friendly manner. They also call Ebonyi people "Onye Abakeleke" or just Onye Aba, Enugu people are called Ndi Wawa. All these in a condescending and not so funny manner. It exists in every ethnic group, even in England, the Southern English don't think the Nothern Englishmen English language is good enough or refined enough, they Northerners are often teased. So what you explain for your Ukwuani group, is what every Igbo group suffer, whenever they leave their part of Igboland to another part where their own brand of Igbo is not spoken. I cannot count the number of times Igbos from the East accused Ikas, Ukwuani people, etc of not being Igbos because they could not understand when these groups spoke their Ika, Ukwuani or whatever Igboid languageIzhi, Ezza and Ikwo people of Ebonyi had also been accused by many Igbo groups of not being Igbo enough because their brand of Igbo is very difficult for Imo and Anambra people to grasp, Izzi in particular now have their own Izzi language Bible, and don't use the general Igbo Bible. Yet you don't see Ebonyi people screaming we are not Igbos, and looking for who to pamper and beg them to be Igbos, they simply ignore like you don't exist and continue flexing their Igbo identities. Come to Nkpor and Ogidi, Ebonyi people are every where and had hijacked traditional masquerades of these towns, like During Nwafor festival in Ogidi, Ebonyi people are the ones that would celebrate it even more than the indigenes themselves. Let me just be very blunt with you without mincing words. Most of you Igbos from the East have issues. You people are very rude and condescending towards igboid groups from the South-South part of the country.I think it's the other way round. All we have done was reach out to Igboid groups in SS after the war, and all we often get in return is insults and accusations of wanting association with them so that we can claim their lands, crude oil, or some other dumb excuses. This was how Sunday Oliseh, an Ukwuani-Ika man went to embarrass Ndiigbo in a nationally televised broadcast. Sunday Oliseh perfectly sums up the embarssment SE Igbos had been receiving from your people. You meet a Chinedu Osadume in NYSC orientation camp in far away Kebbi state and you are so excited, to have finally met a fellow Igbo man, so you call him by saying " Bia Nnaa, kee ije", and he responds to you in public, before other Nigerians by saying, "I no be Ibo, no dey speak that language to me". And there you are feeling so embarrassed, and you make up your mind to tell everyone else that Osadume Chinedu is not an Igbo man, then the same Osadume goes around telling people how you look down on him. Every SEner had encountered a Chinedu Osadume once or many times since after the war, and it shaped the way we all treat other people from Chinedu Osadume clan we meet in the future The idea is to deny and embarrass them, before they get the chance to deny or embarrass you. Your people created that vicious cycle right after the Civil War You people make rude, condescending remarks when you hear igboid minorities from the South-South proudly speaking their various languages or dialects if you wanna call it that.I believe I had already addressed the issues raised here. Also, there is a lot of intermarriage in Delta State particularly between these Igboid groups and their next door neighbours who are the Isoko, Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ijaw ethnicities so some Igboid peeps in the South - South are now unique ethnic groups of their own and embrace whom they have become as a people to the chagrin of the Eastern Igbos. These are all shallow excuses your people give to justify your distinctiveness from SE and the drive for your Igbo denial. Well let me tell you. In SE, Nsukka people live and Intermarry with their Igala neighbors. The Ezza, Izzi and Ikwo had intermixed with the Idomas and Ekoi groups in Cross Rivers, we even have distinct Cross River speaking villages in Ebonyi, that only speak Igbo as a second language, such was the admixture there. The Asa and Ndoki had mixed via intermarriage with their Ogoni, Ibibio and Ijaw (Ibani) neighbors The list is endless, yet these groups remain Igbo and are not using their intermarriage with non Igbo groups as justification for Igbo denial. So, as you can see, you have no point. You are not the only ones who had non Igboid speaking neighbors and intermarried with them, many Igbo groups in SE did as well. You can't expect Igboid minorities to clamour for Igbo identity when you Eastern Igbos stay being salty, rude and condescending towards these people. You see them as inferior to you. In REAL LIFE, you people don't really see them as one of you. You see them as an inferior version of you. Heck, you don't even have unity among yourselves in your South - East Region. Look at how many times I hear Igbos from Enugu, Anambra, etc make disparaging remarks about Igbos from Ebonyi StateDon't get it twisted, the salty things are all reactions to your Igbo denial which had started taking the form of Igbo hate, especially for Ika and Ikwerre people. Your actions are rightly eliciting similar reactions from Ndiigbo. If we consider SS Igbos as inferior to us, we wouldn't have a SS Igbo man, Ralph Uwaechue become a one time two term president of Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndiigbo. An Ikwerre man, Uche Okwukwu, is the current secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndiigbo. Your talk of anyone looking down on anyone holds no water, no group allows people they consider inferior, pilot their affairs. SS Igboids are not singing cumbayaya amongst themselves either. Ikwerre people had seized power in Rivers state, and wouldn't allow very Igboids like Etches, Asa, Ndoki, Ekpeye, Ogba have a sniff at it. It's so bad that Ikwerres had also hijacked the Rivers SE Senatorial position. Leaving the Etches with nothing. I remember how your greedy Ukwuani/Ndokwa people, during the clamour for a Delta state governor of Delta North extraction, went about disassociating yourselves from Anioma, claiming that Ndokwa is a distinct ethnic group and the second only to Urhobos, you also tried to curry favor from Urhobos by claiming that Ndokwa is made up of people of Isoko, Urhobo and Ijaw extractions and therefore, the most unifying group in Delta. So much for solidarity in your ranks, right? https://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/02/ndokwa-nation-miniature-delta-2015-relevance/ My advice is: Let MY people be. Focus on YOUR region of the country and how to best develop it. Stop trying to tell other ethnicities what to do and how to identify themselves. It reeks of desperation and inferiority complex. In case you missed the memo. The opening article of this thread was written by a proud Igbo man from SS, Asaba to be precise, who is concerned about the path groups like Ukwuani /Ika /Ikwerre and Ogba are taking. So I think you can take your banal advice Now, and flush it down the toilet. Kachi foo. |
Ishilove:You are not Igbo, but you speak an adulterated version of Igbo language, and your folks claim to have migrated from Igala, Bini and maybe the moon. So, one thing is clear, you were not originally Igboid speaking, you only became Igboid speaking at a point in your evolution as a people. Your ilks claimed that it was interactions with Igbos that made you Igbo speaking. We are all familiar with stories of Bini princes like Esume, who founded an Igboid speaking Aboh. If your people are not Igbos as you claimed, then it's obvious the current Igboid language you speak is a borrowed one, and tell me what sort of people abandons their own language for those of others, if not an inferiority complex suffering bunch. |
Why exactly were some of my people doing everything possible to bring Ndi Yoruba into this thread, by trying to gourd and taunt them? Doesn't make sense. You people should keep this thread clean. |
Ishilove:Your Bini speaking ancestors who dumped their Bini language for Igboid one, certainly saw it as a privilege to be Igbo speaking, don't you think so? |
ariesbull:Nwanne, give it up already. Ishilove sentiments is shared by majority of Ndokwa/Ukwuani people. Stop calling them Igbos, stopping giving them that privilege, call them what they are and always had been. |
Reelectbuhari:Well, Okonjo Iweala, Pat Utomi, Obi Chike Edozien (Asagba of Asaba), Jay Jay Okocha, Late Ralph Uwaechue( Ohanaeze Ndiigbo president during GEJ tenure) , Late Achuzia, are prominent Anioma people that proudly identify as Igbos. And Yes they are all from Oshimili/Aniocha axis. The Igbo denial ish is endemic in Ika/Ikwerre/ Ogba/Ndoni/Ekpeye/Ukwuani parts and recently Etche/ Egbema in Rivers, Asa and Ndoki in Oyigbo Rivers are beginning to catch the identity crisis bug. |
Erosion, imo, is a mix of deforestation and the oil beneath us being drained from facilities at the coast. Boreholes also play a part. How true is this? Can a geologist or is it geophysicist in the house throw more light on this. |
Nwadiuto247:This message is very important. Especially for opportunistic ones like Chibuike Amaechi, Ndiigbo must make sure we constantly deny him and his Igbo claim in public and remind everyone that he is a confused Edo man whose inferiority complex suffering Edo ancestors learnt Igbo language, we must make it very embarrassing for him and his ilk, we must make sure that they don't get to represent Ndiigbo or take our political slots. For example, when Buhari made mention of the CBN governor being Igbo, notice that the slimy Ikas and Emefiele himself kept mute, because it was profitable to stay mute then and rep Igbo. I think in cases like that, Ndiigbo pressure groups should release official document, denying such claims and reinstating that Emefiele is Ika and not Igbo, and so therefore Buhari can't use his appointment in place of those of Ndiigbo. Ndiigbo as a matter of necessity and survival need to start adopting such tactics to get rid of those opportunists. |
ariesbull:I don't know much too. But all I can say is that the average Ukwuani/Ndokwa man is anti Igbo in nature, as a default setting to prove to their non Igbo neighbors that they are not Igbos. Many of them are opportunistic and only become fair weather Igbos, when claiming so offers them economic, social or political advantage. |
Bane2020:I don't think any law needs to be made. We just need to stop claiming them, and start calling them what they actually are. Which is a group of Edo people whose Bini ancestors out of inferiority complex and awe for Igbo language, dropped their Edoid languages for Igbo language, which they went on to corrupt using their Edoid tongues and intonations, in addition to injection of Edoid words, to create the Frankenstein of a language they call Ika, Ikwerre or whatever today. They are not Igbos, they had made this clear over and over. It's obvious that these people whenever they look at Ndiigbo, it reminds them of the inferiority complex of their Edo ancestors who were awed by Ndiigbo, so much as to switch over to our language. It's a humbling realization for them, so they resort to demeaning Ndiigbo. You make it too easy for them, once you start claiming them, I have learnt to deny them of such attention and rather hit them hard. |
Bede2u:You are very right on the Agbor axis thing. I have a friend from Agbor, his name is typical Igbo names, but he would tell you straight away that he isn't Igbo, and if you dare argue it with him, he gets angry and ruffled. It's the default settings of Ika people to be anti Igbo. It's rarity to find pro Igbos amongst them. |
ariesbull:Aboh is the traditional capital of Ndokwa/Ukwuani people. That Aboh sentiment is the majority sentiment of Ndokwa/Ukwuani people. I know this is hard for you to phantom, I use to be like you too, but I learnt the hard way. |
Actually, I believe Ikwerre people are not Igbos, those people can't be Igbos. Their looks, character and all, scream non Igbo! So, they are not Igbo. Where I disagree is the idea that Ikwerre became Igboid speaking because of interactions With Ndiigbo. I disagree with that, because Ikwerre people who promote such theory always seem to subtly suggest that Igbo people forced our language on their hitherto Bini speaking ancestors. But nothing can be farther from the truth than that theory, as we all know that there was never an Igbo empire pre colonial era, that would have enforced such a language switch. Also, these same Group of Ikwerres suggest that it was during the Eastern region arrangement that lasted from 1939 to 1966 that Ndiigbo forced down the Igboid language on them, but we know this is not true, because there are myriads of pre 1939 colonial documents that clearly shows that Ikwerres were already speaking Igboid language before the first Caucasian set foot on African soil. The most plausible explanation is that Ikwerre people were originally Bini or non Igbo people, who suffered from self inflicted inferiority complex, admired the beautiful language of Ndiigbo with awe, culminating in their ancestors dropping their former languages, for Igbo language of their neighbors. These Ikwerre ancestors corrupted the originally pure Igbo language they borrowed from Ndiigbo , into the impurity called Ikwerre language they speak today. |
Ekinematics:Portuguese and Spanish were both colonized by the Romans. Portuguese and Spanish languages are actually pidgin Latin languages, ie they developed from Latin language, just as Nigerians today have our own versions of pidgin English, with Warri being the sweetest, thanks to our British colonialism. So yes! Spanish and Portuguese languages emanated from the Latin colonialization of the area. When did Ndiigbo colonize Ikwerres ? |
bigfrancis21:He isn't sure. Igbo denial and hate is very strong in Ukwuani/Ndokwa axis. Anybody denying that is deceiving himself. |
aniomafirstson:Ehmm. cc: Ishilove, Clefstone https://www.nairaland.com/1362294/abohs-delta-state-not-igbos You might need to pick up your case with these people. Because, they had done a good job creating a bad blood between your people and SE. I'm also member of Ukwuani/Ndokwa facebook page, I know the prevailing sentiments there. |
Lol! Ikechukwu is the typical bull in the China shop. You don't want him as an opponent, I'd rather have him in my own camp, causing havoc in enemies forte. Ikechukwu, please, you should know we are referring to Ika/Ukwuani/Ikwerre/Ogba/Ekpeye/Ndoni axis. Haba, you don't expect us to always point this thing out. If you read my first post well, you would realize I pointed out that the OP article was written by an Asaba indigene. There is a reason for that, and I'm sure you would understand now, if you just let go of your anger. Ikechukwu, I personally apologize to you, if for any reason, my cryptic and ambiguous posts wronged you. Iwegi dajuo, Nwanne. Iwe Nwanne anaghi eru n'obi, maka na I gaghi egbu ozu iga eso nwe kwaa. |
Nwadiuto247:I use to be a campaigner for Igbo unity from Igbanke (Edo state) to Isobo (Cross River). But I know better now. I joined facebook pages of these groups over the past five years, and got to psych their sentiments. I tell you, most of these people are even more Igbophobic than non Igbo Nigerians, they have this strong urge to be strongly Igbo hating, to prove to their non Igbo neighbors, that truly, they are not Igbos. You only encourage their folly, when you keep insisting they are Igbo , you do that, and they grow a sense of group importance and pour more hate on you. Those people are broken and toxic, as a matter of fact, SE should stay away from them, before they infect US with their venom. Because I found out that the more time I spent on those their forums, and witnessed first hand their raw unwarranted hate for Ndiigbo, the more my hate for them increased. Like I said, those groups outside SE are toxic, we should let them be. As a matter of fact, I had made it a point to remind any of them, that claims relationship with Igbos, that they are not Igbo, that their non Igbo ancestors suffered from a very malignant form of inferiority complex, which culminated in them dropping their former languages, be them Bini (like most of them claim), Ijaw, etc, for a superior Igbo language, which they corrupted to create the current anomalies they now speak and call Igboid language. I swear, there is no relationship between Ndiigbo and these people, the hate emanating from those quarters is toxic. Many of them are praying for harm to befall Ndiigbo again, so that they can capitalize and steal more of our lands, that's how devilish they are. |
Personally , I don't believe in forced unity. Nobody is worth being begged to be with you. Especially somebody that don't put food on your table. Okowa is rumoured to be propounding a law that would introduce Ika, Enu-ani and Ukwuani, as independent languages to be taught in schools in those parts, and not the central Igbo we all learn in the SE. While we in SE are striving for centrality with those people, their political and traditional institutions are striving for isolation and distinctiveness from us. I think it's time we let those people be who ever they want to be, this unity begging and dragging thing had gone on for too long, and it's becoming embarrassing. That's my own input. |
Well OP, you failed to state the writer of the Article you used in the OP, is an Anioma guy, from Asaba. |
Well, I'd rather be related to Bantu than to anyother ethnic group in Nigeria. |
