Even if our families most time we don't have peace, igbos deserves what ever that comes their way,, why would they go to war at the first place,,,when they know they dont have enough weapon to fight the federal might' the day Nigeria was created till today igbo are the only tribe calling for break up,,every day maginalization' are they only tribe in Nigeria? if I were Gowon i will give them 5 naira to start up life',the 20 naira given to them was too big' dialogue is the best way to resolve any disagreement' trouble runs in our blood, we igbos like trouble, that is the simple truth
"We Igbos "?

Lol! One minute you are referring to Igbos as any one else would refer to a group they are not part of, hoping out of your wicked heart that the worst fall on Igbos, and then the next, you are claiming to be Igbo grin

Igbos are not interested in breaking your third world failed country, we just don't want to be part of it.

The rest of you all, all loving and obedient groups can do better without the troublesome, drug pushing, chest beating, parasitic Igbos. One would think that you lots would jump at the chance of getting rid of such troublesome group that had refused to yield to your herd mentality.
But apparently, that's not the case. Instead, every mention of Igbo Seccesion awakens the beast in all of you.

My friend read my earlier comments, yes a university or Polytechnic i believe in Anambra is named after Ojukwu, that my friend is a State school. I am talking about national honour like University of Ife, a National Univ named after AWO. Ojukwu will fizzle out does not mean he will be forgotten but his name and influence will diminish because he was not a Nigerian national Hero. Case in point, those that fought the American civil war on the Confederates heros statues and emblems are being removed as we speak. I, for example as a northerner and many northerners will not agree for Ojukwus name to be on anything Nigeria, but for ZIK, everyone will agree on it based on history, this will carry on and on and on forever. Yes i agree Ojukwu is loved by his people but i am entitled to my opinion. Yes i will cut him some slack, he was a graduate and joined the army through the ranks until his graduate status was recognised, also, i agree that the Govt promise him that he is forgiven but they still will not trust him, that was wrong on the govt side and that is still a challenge and cause of concern for Ndigbo and Nigeria. Also, the any amount you have you cannot get more than 20 pounds was just totally wrong and Nigeria govt needs to compensate Igbos for that, i agree totally. Also, I wish Ojukwu had made a statement that he regreted Biafra and that he lay a curse on anyone that decides to go that route before he died, he wouldve been a hero then. Aburi is dem say dem say. At the end Nzeogwu murdered innocent people cos he thought they were stealing money. Ironsi did not punish him as he's supposed to, Igbos jubilated in Kaduna, Zaria etc to the slaughter of innocent Northerners, there were songs and taunting etc, they made it look like its not an igbo coup, yeah right, the North did the same and innocent people died, Ojukwu decided to go to war after ZIK, Ifeajuna etc all adviced him against it, he refused for his selfish gains of becoming presdient and the we are better than them ideology. God gave Nigeria victory and Biafra lost. Nigeria did not fulfil all its promises to Biafra and Biafra as well are still holding on to Biafra.
Ojukwu had transcended the realm of immortality in the uncorrupted Igbo hearts, he will fizzle out only in your dreams.

American war is justified, seeing as America is a great first world nation today, and there was no post war efforts made by the North to strangulate the Confederate, who had gone on to produce many American presidents, there after.
It's easier for confederate states to give up on future secession because of those two factors.
In case of Nigeria, there is no justification for Nigeria unity.
Nigeria is a failed Third World country, and many post war policy aimed at strangulation of Igboland was made by the victors.
The combination of these two factors would ensure that Ojukwu and Biafra will live till eternity in Igbo minds until his dreams is brought into reality.

Ojukwu made no such curse. Ojukwu was there during Uwazuruike Biafra agitation with MASSOB and never condemned Uwazuruike.

Nzeogwu, together with people like Adegbomeya plotted a coup.
Never mind that Nzeogwu was from a part of Igboland (Anioma) that many people tell us today are no longer part of Igboland.

The entire Nigeria, not just Ndiigbo rejoiced when the news of Nzeogwu coup broke out.
No such taunting song was made by Ndiigbo. "Ewu na ebe Akwa " crooner was not even Igbo, and the song had nothing to do with dead Northern rulers.

Ojukwu decided to go for peace.
Once he negotiated for peace with Northerner leaders and resent Igbos that returned from the North to Igboland, back to the North, assuring them of their safety. But they were all massacred again by Northerners with tacit support of their rulers.
Then he went to Aburi to negotiate for peace again, but Gowon on advise of Nigerian senior civil servants , reneged on all agreements reached at Aburi, and instead issued out a decree.

Ojukwu declared Biafra, and not war on Nigeria. It was Gowon and Nigeria that brought war to Biafra at Northern Cross River border called Gakem.

Biafra will live on. The ideology will be passed from father to son, and the strategies towards achieving it will continuously be modified until we get it right.

Any union with Yorubas or Arewa in it, for me as an Igbo man, is totally unacceptable.

A Homogeneous Igbo speaking republic is my first option.

A loose confederation with Igbo friendly groups in the old Eastern region is acceptable.

This thread had nothing to do with Urhobo or any Edoid group, but here you are pokenosing and even having the effrontery to question an Igbo man involvement in an event that took place in Igbo Etche.

During the civil war we tagged those children by making sure each of them carry an identity card however maybe they were removed at

point of entry. or those who adopted them, decided it was no longer relevant that was why the boy who said he was from Imo couldn't

say more than that .Each time I remember this I weep for them.

War teaches us great lesson it is a period you will know who are realiy your enemies . Because in peace time you will never know

who your real friends are. That a man harbours you and you thrive does not mean he loves you. Your responsibility

is to show appreciation. by keeping to the law of that land.and saying thank you but don't get carried way. The Igbo men you find today

are quite different from the Igbo men before the civil war.. The igbo of today are sell out, they dont love each other only love for

quick money which was not there before. During the days of GBOMOGBOMO the Igbo's never experienced it.because

there were no need for that because they were hard working and they believe everything should come

through hard work.. If you are an Israelite among nations you will begin to pedal carefully. After the civil war 20pounds, everybody

wanted the Igbo man to remain that way. No appointment no support from any tribe of Nigeria (political) untill Babangida

could have it no more. When IPOB was drawing that their stupid map, I knew either there was no member of their family

that fought in the civil war that will tell them what really happen behind the secene . or they are just raising fund.

If you want to succeed in any thing, be constructive in your demand don't insult whoever does not agree with you

make him understand that your view differs from his, don't insult a whole tribe because you don't know who among

that tribe, that working behind the secene for you . Do you no that Wolesoyinka is a Yoruba man but he was lockup during

the civil war for supporting Biafra.. I personally do not support IPOB but I became sympathetic to them

when they were tagged terrorist leaving the Fulani herdsmen. When I discover that people around me want to take over my

sweats should there be crises, I will begin to be careful in all that I do.

Follow the Fulani's you will learn a lot from them. You will see that killing and slaugthering will increase very

soon in Benue and Jos environ , this has nothing to do with grassing but to achieve what Zik could not allow

them do then, by installing Emir of Jos and makudi. They now controll the army. General Bello is to make

sure that is achieved. Benue/platue are not weak as every body might think. They are only getting carried away by the slogan "WE THE

NORTH"" , not knowing that they are like igbos in the mist of ALELUYA. In war of genocide you create false hope

of security for the people you want to attack by firing on air , creating an impression that the people

who are coming to attack are being attacked, lets go to bed. When they are off guard they will be attack.and the casualty will be

maximum.

When next such thing happen forget sleep that night and don't disclose anything to the army. We dont know

who will pass your location to the people who will make the killing.

Please can any one tell me if General Gowon (my former lovely head of state) is still alive, how about David mark and the rest of the

Genera from this two state. There was a time they could boast of General

than any state in the world. We the North say "what is their stand on Restructuring"
Benue people are not carried away by anything, they know what they did and are doing. They supervised the massacre of Igbos in Makurdi in 1967, I thought you claim to know history, you should atleast have known that.

Wole Soyinka didn't get locked for Biafra, he got locked for Nigerian unity . He snuck into Biafra without the Nigerian government knowledge in vain attempt to convince Achebe and Okigbo to turn their backs on Biafra and persuade Ojukwu to concede defeat to Gowon. Achebe turned him down outrighly, and on his attempt to sneak out of Biafra into Nigeria, having failed on his mission, he was arrested by the Nigerian Army, and was imprisoned because they were not sure if he was working for Biafra or Nigeria.
Get your history right, man.

Igbos are not perfect, yes! We changed alot after the war, but the truth remains that amongst all Nigerian groups, non love themselves even as of today than Igbos. It was this love that translated to self and brotherly help, that enabled us all survive the post civil war devastation of our land and the post civil war economic strangulation our evil enemies plotted for us.
Today billions is being budgeted for rehabilitation of NE, none was budgeted for SE rehabilitation, we rebuilt ourselves and our region, ourselves, it takes a united people to achieve such.

On one hand you preach civility, condemning IPOB for returning hate speeches directed at Ndiigbo, to whatever corner the hate is coming from, and on the other hand, you say we should learn from Fulanis, a group who lack civility and are ready to kill the innocents to disposes them of their belongings, you sure suffer from a form of cognitive dissonance.

And did you assign the word "lovely" to Gowon? Lol! That is like a Jew assigning the word "lovely " to Hitler. Man, you sure were all over the place.

I agree with you, on one point though. IPOB should have restricted the Biafran struggle to Proudly Igbo speaking areas, and they needed to do in house cleaning of Igboland, getting our house in order by emasculating the political jobbers/sell outs, before going out to confront a perceived outside foe, they ignored the home fifth columnists, and went to confront an outside foe, that was their grave error.

They put the cat before the horse, and we all saw the consequences of that, its not bad, If we learn from that mistake and correct it in the future.

I love your advice that some one accommodating you does not in anyway translate to love for you or your group and that you get to know this during war situations. Many Igbos living outside non Igbo speaking parts of Nigeria, lack such wisdom, I'm impressed with that your line of thought.

Have a nice day.

Good one.

Good to see that they are not suffering from identity crisis, though now surrounded by non Igbo neighbors and their original Igbo dialect now corrupted by importation and borrowing of non Igbo words, expressions and intonations from their fang and Bubi neighbors, this people still retained the Igbo identity.

Kudos to them.

Too bad we the Igbos in Nigeria can't be of much help to them in their independence struggle from equatorial guinea, seeing as we too are trapped in a retrogressive Nigeria entity and are struggling to free ourselves too.

An independent Igbo nation would have offered them better assistance.

Nevertheless, nothing stops us from reestablishing contact with them, as long as it doesn't draw the discomfort of their fang and Bubi neighbors who might start feeling that their allegiance is no longer to the island, but to the Igbo in Nigeria.
This could backfire and put the Igbos in Bioko in disadvantaged position, as their Bioko neighbors might start alienating them, as paranoia driven stories of plans of Igbos In Nigeria to invade the island and take control with the help of Bioko Igbos might be hatched by evil power brokers in Bioko.

So, I say we play this one cool with tact, and not be rash with decisions, to avoid puting those precious Igbos in Bioko at a disadvantaged position in their lovely island, or put them in position where they would have to start publicly denying their Igbo identity and allegiance, in order to ensure acceptance in the island by the Fangs and Bubi and enhance their survival by appealing to the paranoia of their non Igbo neighbors .

Buhari and his goons should take their military eye doctors to his neck of woods where they are needed more. We had obviously made it clear that we don't need or want them.

Nevertheless, I am not justifying the genocide. I am saying the people were set up and put in the line of fire. Because I don't understand why anyone will ask people to come out to do a procession just after soldiers have ransacked the town and killed people. The onus laid on the leaders to meet with the soldiers and pass across the message of peace. They should have protected their people and initiated a curfew, and not make the entire town come out en masse. That was a wrong move!

They should have said, everyone. Sit at home, we will discuss with the soldiers. Send emissaries and seek audience with the commanders.

Well well.
Let's start from the known to the unknown.

We already know that Nigeria is not viable. She remains a failed third world country after five decades of miserable existence.

If we accept the non viability of Nigeria, a country that still can't figure out how to provide basic amenities like electricity, good roads and portable water to her citizens in this era, and likely not to do same in the next 5 decades, what then does it matter if Biafra will be viable or non viable?

Let's be reasonable.
What's the worst that could happen? Ok, Biafra might become as non viable as Nigeria currently is, but atleast, Biafrans would no longer have to share a country with Islamic extremists, they wouldn't have to endure the menace of Fulani herdsmen , as the Biafran government would grant them full protection via well guarded national borders.
They wouldn't have to deal with the lopsided quota system that seem to punish the hardworkers and reward the lazy ones.

The above alone, makes the prospect of Biafra more appealing to the Igbo.

Biafra would be landlocked? Duh! Nigeria has all the sea access in the world, and is still a third world poor country with a thriving terrorist group in NE. grin
Somalia is also another failed third world country with massive sea coast line, and like Nigeria, also has Islamic extremists and terrorist group. cool

Biafra will be not be viable? Probably, but not certainly. But Nigeria non viability and third world status is a certainty and a reality and not a probability.

BabaRamota1980:
The coup of Jan 66 was a multi-woven agenda.

1 - In the 50s Igbos in Lagos had suddenly gained a new political awareness and empowerement that was never before known or practiced in their culture and tradition anywhere. With the new knowledge and consciousness came "restlessness". This restlessness in the Igbos of Lagos were pronounced and championed by those of Onitsha and ANIOMA background.

This political empowerement and elitism of the 40s and 50s Lagos is the residual outcome of longlasting confrontation dated back into mid 1800s and crossed into the twentieth century between Yoruba political groups on one hand, and the Yorubas and Britain on the other. The turf battles produced a unique political dynamism throughout Yorubaland.

2 - The creation of additional regions out of West, North and East - midWest, middleBelt and COR respectively.

The alliance between North and East stoked the demands for midWest using Oba of Bini as the grandpatron of the movement for the creation of midWest. The grand plan is to excise West from the dividends of delta oil and afterward subjugate North through military domination and steer dividends of oil into the East.

Prior to 1963 the propagandists were operating from behind the curtain. Soon as midWest became reality in 63 they came out from behind curtain and showed their fangs. Ibos started sabotaging efforts and sacrifices made by Edo, Urhobo, Isoko, the advocates and champions of the referendum that created midWest. These Ibos were the Onistshans and Aniomans. This was the second restlessness.

Ibo politicians in Lagos bankrolled the Jan coup.

When war broke out in 67 Aniomans were desperate to finish what they failed to accomplish in 63 and Jan66. Ordinary civilians that would think nothing of joining army now found the inspiration to occupy and own Lagos and revenge the political marginalization of Yoruba elites in Lagos, in addition to cornering oil dividends. These young and spirited fighter corps were majority Aniomans. On their way to Lagos they suffered villagers and communities along the path till they faced opposition and were defeated in Ore.

The soldiers of Nigerian Army knew who was who based on spoken Ibo....they could tell the Isuama dialect different from Omambala or Ngwa. This is how they knew who they were fighting and why the remaining population must be decimated when they reached Asaba.

These communities I speak of don't speak of kinship with Ohafia groups. Rather they speak of being displaced and forced to move into Igbos hinterlands from their previously Eastern location by Ohafia groups advancing from a more Eastern direction( present day Cross River state areas).

You are on your own. Strictly on your own.
Blue2022 is a veteran Igbo poster here. The later is a shameless afonja man, hiding under anonymous ethnicity to spread his Igbophobia everywhere.

There is no similarity between life and death.
