bigboy3: Nice one ikenna. I drive a 2004 v6 607. The cd and screen isn't working but the radio works fine. I read something online that it's usually the communication ECU that causes that but I need a Peugeot expert to check it out...it's boring to drive without listening to proper music.

What do you think ikena?
No idea of how to fix such issue. Sorry, i couldnt be of help to you. But someone else here might have the answer to the problem. Keep your fingers crossed.

BusHouse: Thanks Ikenna for opening a tread for lion user's. Thumbs up to u. I own a brand new 307 (not the lift back type, 2010 model). The issue am having with this ride is identifying the correct oil filter. I noticed that anytime i use a certain oil filter (am told its for 307 lift back & also compatable with my model) for service, the dash board will indicate "STOP Oil pressure low" two days after service. Is it that the oil filter is fake? The second issue is the AC which cut off after every 15 minutes for say 3 minutes. Pls is this normal? thanks.
You will need to find out your engine family or model number. The model of your 307 might have different engine with the hatch back the saloon succeeded, irrespectine of engine cubic capacity, fuel type and number of cylinders. When you have the engine number, use the number to find out the oil filter part number for your engine. It could be that you are using the wrong oil filter for that engine, am not sure. The engine model number and the oil filter part number of the car should be in the owners manual, which i believe you would have, since you bought it new. Its peugeot tradition to include such numbers in their owners manual.

For your A/C issue, I would check the cooling system sensors. A/Cs in Peugeot usually work with the cooling system, probably the CTS. They do have a safety switch that switches of the A/C when it senses that the temp of the engine is going beyond normal operating temp of the engine. The issue could also be the A/C thermostat or the Climate Control system ECU. You will need to scan the car to know what is the culprit, since more than one component, if failed, could give such symptom.

I no dey for that one o! Anything conversion, count me out. Talking from experience.

But the truth remains. Peugeot provides room for conversion in every of their products, especially auto to manual transmission conversion. You will find holes on auto tranny peugeots where all manual tranny components can be installed without cutting open or welding anything. The same is applicable to RHD to LHD, especially 406, i think. But how good the conversion job is done is another matter entirely. If you are saying the conversion will be done before it enters Nigeria, it will make sence to me. But doing the work here? You are on your own! You had better look for a standard LHD 406, for peace of mind.

It would be better if you speak for your self. Leave other Peugeot owners out of it. Your maintenance culture might not be the same with theirs. State your reasons why the car has been a nightmare to you. There could be some lessons we would learn from it.

bigx: My 307 Power steering just stopped working this evening (it was like driving a trailer home sad ), I called my mechanic and he's saying my power steering pump has failed and that'd cost me 100k to replace? Is that true? Before I go out and spend unnecessary money money tomorrow.
Thanks a million!
That your mechanic must be one of the greatest daft that have ever touched a spanner. Big time clown!

A lot would make a PAS (power assisted steering) to suddenly become heavy to steer. If the PAS pump belt breaks, the steering wheel will become too heavy to steer. If the PAS system develops leaks and losses all the fluid, the same symptom will be experienced. Its even dangerous to run the PAS pump without PAS fluid/oil. It will lose lubrication and kill the pump. Its always advisable to remove the PAS pump belt when the system losses its fluid and you have no fluid to refill the PAS fluid container till you drive the car home or to a place the leak needs to be sorted out.

PAS pump doesnt fail like that so sudden. The constant flow of oil via the pump ensures it longevity due to frequent lubrication.

Please what could be the problem when a 406 2001 model gives "Anti-Pollution Fault"
Hi,

Below are some solutions from 406 owners that had similar Anti-Pollution fault issue and how they got it fixed.

SOLUTION A
yes i had the same problem i changed my air filter with one that did not have the foam and the fault came on, then changed it for one with foam and the fault went. strange but that was the problem.

SOLUTION B
I had this on my 02 plate 406. Read lots and lots of answers but what I did was to replace the air filter. I know it sounds stupid but I did it 6 months ago and have had no probs at all since. What I have noticed is there is a layer of foam on the top of the air filter - which was missing on the one I took out. As I said works a treat and done a further 6000 miles and no light. Try it you never know.

SOLUTION C
2001 406 2.0i est petrol (mostly supermarket), same warning, tried without air filter, (foam should be at bottom by the way), no change, went around all visible electrical connectors at top and behind engine, seperated each and squirted with WD40 into plugs then remade, started engine and fault cleared.

Some also said that replacing IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor and FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) fixed the anti-pollution fault issue. Most times, these fault is caused by the quality of fuel you use. But do know that its purely an injection issue.

I have a friend in Australia that owns 406 V6. He is a DIY fellow, but a very good one. He is more or less a mechanic. I will contact him to ask possible causes and fixing of the issue, if other than the solutions i enumerated above. He will be asleep now. Will get back to you with my findings from him. Goodluck.

Car TalkRe: My Camry 2000 Model Radiator Water Dries Up Quickly by Ikenna351(m): 6:05pm On Jul 31, 2012
@ OP,

See how person dey go carry im hand and moni buy wahala for imself! You acknowledged that the original radiator had no issue, yet you went ahead and replace what didnt need to be replace. What made you think you knew better than the car manufacturer? So you think they didnt consider hot climate/weather when they designed the engine to run with that original radiator? You think North America, where probably the car was used, dont have hot season like us, even hotter than ours atimes? Well, we live with implications of our decisions and choices in life!

To start with, your description showed that the cooling system was not bled after the radiator swapped. The car could also be suffering from airpocket. Airpocket issue usually blow up the radiator hose, head gasket or any possible cooling system part, to excape the pressure building up in the sealed system.

Like Nisspart has suggested, you likely also have a leakage issue as well. Find it.

Have you checked the colour of the engine oil in the sump via oil dipstick, to know if thats where the radiator fluid are draining into? If the colour turns into milkish or whitish, HELLLO! Your head gasket has toasted.

I believe you have learnt your lesson.

I would say i do one of those listed: Music! But I can't help it. I cant imagine driving without 2pac blasting and so loud (though, my windows are always up, except in my 2nd car). If that is disturbing others (which I doubt, since windows are always closed), then they just have to live with it.

The last time I drove to East (this last Easter break), someone joined me to drop him at Enugu. It was the most boring long distance driving I have ever done. Why? The kind of Music the guy wanted to listened to was so irritating to me. At a point, I switched the damn radio off and told him the I was loosing concentration in the driving listening to those weird songs. I had to drive the rest of journey with the radio off; not hearing the Pac's lyrics. What a boring journey! First time i ever driven witout 2pac playing in the whole journey. I have always travelled alone, except that day. I didnt even bother to pick him up while driving back to Abuja 3 days later. I couldnt live with that again. Anytime i sit behind that wheel, Pac must be on. It helps me to pay less attention to the nonsence most people do on the road in the name of driving. I hardly notice, when am busy listing to Pac's prophesy

There is this colleague i used to drop when driving back home, after close of work. This guy, as soon as he entered my car, he would start complaining about colleague A, colleague B, Boss A, or Boss B. He wouldnt allow me to enjoy the music, since i would have to lower it for him with his series of complaint, even though i hardly respond to him while he would be disturbing my peace. When he got tired of complaining, he would pullout his phone and start calling all the people he had their numbers. If he finsihed with one, he would dial another. Before you know, journey don end. At a point bear the nightmare anymore. I started to leave the volume of the CD player as high I would want to and wont bother to touch the volume when he would be ranting with himself or doing his calling business. He later realised that he was no longer welcomed in my car and never bothered to ask for lift anymore. I needed my peace!

So, the last thing I would entertain is for someone to determine for me when to listen to my music or not to have my peace driving my car, considering what it takes me to put that car on the road on daily basis. If you like calling the whole the world whenever you are a vehicle, find a taxi or cab. What I have is PRIVATE CAR. I need that privacy.

This thread is for Lion owners, aspiring owners, Lion admirers and friends of Lions (former Peugeot owners).

If you are having any issue(s) with your Lion, you can seek for help here on how to sort it out. Someone might have a soluton to the nightmare the Lion is giving you.

We can as well post our experiences with our various Lions; both unhappy and happy ones.

Sometime early this year, very close to my office, I saw a 505 V6 packed in an "under Mango Tree Mechanic workshop". I went there and asked for the owner, for i wanted to see and know another fellow that own such a rare car like mine (505 V6) in Abuja. I was told the owner dropped the car over a week with them and the car was yet to be fixed. I asked what was wrong with the car, the mechanic became uncomfortable why my interest in the car and why i wanted to see the car owner. I explained to him that I own the same version of the 505 which is rare in Nigeria and I would like to know the owner, thats all. Well, he tried to explain to me what was wrong with the car, but he wasnt making sense. So I asked him to allow me to see the engine bay. When he opened the hood, I was shocked! Nearly all the vacuum lines were cut off from their various terminals. Weird! Well, i then asked him to start the car, when he did, i saw what or how the engine was behaving and knew right there the issue: an injection issue. A lot of things were wrong in that engine bay. No matter what the mechanic would tried to do, that issue must remain there, since all he explained to me he had done or replaced had nothing to do with the issue the car was having. In fact, he was creating more problems with his trial and error for that engine. He even replaced the MAF and installed the wrong part number (Luckly, I know the part number off head, since I have a similar car, with identical engine). I tried to get the owners phone number from him, but he wouldnt give me. Instead, he asked me to drop mine, that he would give the car owner whenever he comes, to call me. I made a note on the paper i gave to the mechanic to give to owner where i wrote down my number, explaining reason why i would want to meet with him, believing that the mechanic wouldnt understand what was written. I left them, after i realised that my presence there was no longer welcomed. As suspected, the owner never called because the mechanic would not have given him the note; fear that i want to collect chop from him! For another 3 more weeks, the car remained there at that workshop each time i passed there. At a point, I even forgot about it. 2 months later, i remembered, went back to check and the car was no longer there. Could be that the owner has towed the car to another workshop or only God knows what has happened to that car. This was a car I would have fixed that for person less than 24hrs, without a dime, if i had met him. There is no injection and ignition issue of 505 V6 i cannot fix myself. I have studied and mastered every wire from the 2 ECUs to various sensors, by knowing the function of each wire, sensors and components in that engine bay. I could tell quickly what is wrong with that EFI system and what the culprit would be with a little test with multimeter and test light. I dont need any scanner to diagnose and fix Bosch LH 2-2 Jetronic (EFI system of ZN3J - the PRV V6 engine in 505 V6). I couldnt help the guy because he was unlucky. If we had met in nairaland, he would have been saved from the hands of that clown that was killing the car when i went there. Possibly, he may have scrapped the car by now. Because there is no way that car would run properly with the condition i met it that day. So many wrongs were done in that engine bay.

Lets share our problems here in this thread and possibly get help from ourselves in keeping our Lions on the road as long as it takes.

Car TalkRe: State Your 'auto Near Death Experience' And Why/how It Happened by Ikenna351(m):
Am back.

Some would argue, "why not park by the side of the road immediately one start feeling sleepy?". Of course, that is the safest thing to do in such situation. But that can only be safe when you get to a safe place or arrive a town. On Nigerian highways, you do not want to stop and park your car in no-mans-land; in the middle of nowhere. You may end up completing your journey via good Samaritan vehicle or public transport, if they spare your life. Everyone that drives on long distance on our "Robbery-free smooth road" has a target; to get to a particular town before so so time. If you are driving to Abuja from East, you do not want to reach Gwagwalada by 3pm. It will be better for the person to stop at Lokoja and relax till late in the evening, before continuing his/her journey to Abuja, if he or she knows that he cant make it to Gwagwalada by 2pm or before then. The worst thing that will happen to a vehicle that have ran a long distance of about 8 hrs and end up at Gwagwalada traffic jam, which can last upto or more than 2 hrs. If your cooling system isnt that wonderful, you kiss your cylinder head goodbye.ie. you complete the journey with towing van into the Abuja city. My point here is, 110 - 120km/h is not too much for long distance motoring/trip in Nigeria. If you you decide to limit it to 80km/h or below, good luck with that. After all, experience is the best teacher, they would say. It has happened to me and am lucky to have survived and live to correct my mistake. you maynot be that lucky. But you also need to know that even on that your low speed, you can be pushed off the road by another vehicle. What really prevent accident is how good you are behind the wheel. Thats where experience comes in. An inexperienced driver on a highway is a killer, at that moment he or she isbehind the wheel. This is not some city driving we are talking about. Long distance highway driving is not for the faint-hearted; its not for those who sees top speed as a game or race; its not for those who cant control the speed they do; its not for teenagers; and finally, its a serious driving business!

The best transmission that fights fatique on a long distance driving on long distance trip is manual transmission. I drove to East sometime last year to sort issues out, for only 3 days. The second day, i was so busy to conclude the matters that became so weak at the end of the day, ye i had to travel back to Abuja the next day to resume work. I drove off around 6:30am the next morning from Enugu, heading to Abuja. About an hour after I drove past Obollo Afor, I started to fell weak (fatigue), yet I still have about 7 hrs hot top speed to drive before i get to Abuja. Now I needed to get to Lokoja before 12pm, to avert the Gwagwalada traffic jam nightmare. What saved me that day was the manual transmission of the V6 car. Every part of my body was active; my two legs for clutch and accelerator), my two hands (for steering wheel and gear stick), my entire body (shifting on the seat as i shift forward and backward to shift the gear stick up and down).I was completely alert, since every part of my body was doing sometime behind the wheel.. I arrived Lokoja before 12pm and realised i didnt need anymore to stop and rest, since sleepnesss had seized to disturb me on the wheel. I fired on, without even stopping to eat. Since then, i have been wondering what could have happened if my car was an auto transmission, where only my right leg and left hand will be at work? Its more or less a dummy behind the wheel. Of course, I would have turned and returned back to Enugu and face query at office for not reporting to work or something more serious than that. The truth is that I would have slept off on the wheel without even knowing when it would happen, if it was auto trans. A lesson I will live not to forget.

I know i have derailed a bit from the thread with my analysis, but i needed to point out other things that usually cause the near death experience on our highways, aside uncontrollable speed, if you survive to tell. You can hate my posts, but i have done my bit for those who are yet to experience it. Its a choice you need to make for yourself: to experience it or prevent from happening. Its your call.

Car TalkRe: State Your 'auto Near Death Experience' And Why/how It Happened by Ikenna351(m): 6:01pm On Jul 26, 2012
lilkech: thanx for that. yeah the handbrake should work fine only that there is a certain speed at which it would be considered suicidal.

i also heard about switching off the ignition of the car(manual transmission) from someone but i also need to know if i must TAKE MY FOOT ENTIRELY OFF THE CLUTCH WHILE/AFTER I SWITCH OFF THE ENGINE for this style to work? also would'nt this cause the car to lose balance and control while it is being done? because the tires will lock up and the speed of the vehicle can turn the car into a cannon ball once it goes bad
You don't need to switch off ignition when you have a brake failure while in motion. If you are not an expert in doing that, it would lock the steering wheel. You should know the rest. With manual transmission, you shouldnt have any issue stopping the car, when it has brake failure while in motion. Its called "engine brake" which manual tranny offers and auto transmission lacks. In fact, i hardly touch my brake pedal while in motion. The engine brake does that function for me. All you need to do is to master the distance or gap you give vehicles before you and let the manual transmission brake your car for you, even driving in the cities. Thats advantage manual tranny has over auto trans, if you know the pros of manual tranny and make full use of them. Can't remember the last time i replaced my brake pads.

I have had so many near death experiences, both in the cities and on highways. The experiences shaped in choosing my present car(s). They said experience is the best teacher. In this case, if you are lucky to survive, no one will tell you again what caused it. In my case, some deadly ones were averted because of the design of the vehicles. Survival on our highways is choice. If you choose to live everytime you hit Nigerian highway, then you will have to choose which vehicle that will do that job well for you. "Onye chukwu n'azo, n'azo onwe ya", if you understand what that means.

A lot of people would blame accidents on highways as been caused by overspeeding. I would hiss each time i read or hear such comment. Thats what people who dont understand long distance driving world. Ever experienced fatigue on the steering? Of course you wont know if you hare not a constant long distance driving fellow. The truth is: the longer you stay on the wheel on long distance driving, the more fatigue sets in. The result is sleeping off on the wheel, without even knowing what just happened. Anything can happen in that seconds your eyes closed and opened. In the white mans world, they set out on a long journey, not to get to the destination that same day. They brake the journeys in hotels/Inn, till they reach their destination, even if it takes them 2 or 3 days. How many of us can afford to do so in Nigeria, considering the hard cost of living here?

Will continue in a short while.

Luvinhubby,

It appears you don't know what you want. You need decide if you interest you is SUV or Sedan. The two vehicles you listed are not in the same league. You should by now know a particular type of vehicle that interest you more; the type you have always like admiring, wondering when you will ever own one.

The road handling, mpg, cost of maintenance & class of SUV and Sedan are completely different. It all comes down to what you want or need in a vehicle. Whichever you finally decide on which suits your want and need (an SUV or a Sedan). List the brands and their products you think you wouldn't mind to go for, if trouble-free. Then, people would be in a better position to list out the cons and pros of all you listed, and maybe advice you on which would be better for you. But do know that all vehicles have issues, no matter how reliable they may appear to be, from people's comments. It all depends on how far you are ready to go in maintaining a particular brand or product, depending on what you want out of a car. A performance or an inspiring vehicle to drive would require frequent attention, in terms of maintenance. Unlike one that is their to serve the purpose of "point A to point B", which requires less attention on what it takes to keep it on the road.

Car TalkRe: The Rise Of “Big For Nothing” (2002 – 2006 Toyota Camry) by Ikenna351(m):
BizBooks: Over the weekend, I visited a friend who is on a business trip to the US. In the course of
our conversation, he informed me that the 2002 – 2006 Toyota Camry popularly known as “Big
for Nothing” is now a hot item in the Nigerian car market. According to him, he sold 4
units before making this trip.

The “Big for Nothing” like most Toyota products is a durable and reliable car. So one is
at loss to understand why Nigerian drivers have vehemently refused to accept it over the
years. In fact, in dealing with Nigerian car buyers, many have specifically told me “I do
not want Big for Nothing
” instead opting for Tiny Light or Fish which are much older
models. When you ask why, you don’t get a good answer.

So if you are in the market for an affordable Toyota Camry, consider the “Big for
Nothing”. They are much better than Tiny Light and Fish and the price difference is not
much.
That's your opinion. I have driven the car. The interior sucks. Really big for nothing! The interior doesn't worth the huge amount spent on such purchase. But what do i expect? It's Toyota, anyway.

Not trying to discourage fans, but have recently seen various thread asking for price of Tokunbo engine of I4 Big-for-nothing? How many years have they been used for their engines to have failed? I would advice any interested person to go for it's V6. It's appears to be more durable or cheaper. Someone has used his Big for Nothing V6 beyond 1 million miles (mileage). Not 100k miles, but 1,000,000 + miles & its running on the original engine. Thats big kudos for the car's V6 version.

Aside the mechanicals durability doubt, the looks really is odd. Not inspiring to view or gaze at. That's me, anyway.

Car TalkRe: Pls Urgent Advice Needed: My Front Left Wheel Gets Real Hot After Driving. by Ikenna351(m):
ZIM DRILL: he said left front wheel

I NEVER SEEN A CAR WITH HANDBRAKE THAT LOCKS FRONT WHEELS

the caliper is the problem it is not releasing
No mind am!

@ Poster,

The brake flexible hose of that wheel should not be left out in the checking. It usually blocks overtime and wont return fliud back to hydraulic reservoir when brake is applied and released, hence, that wheel remains constantly on brake (brake pad binding on the brake rotor).

Three things would make only one wheel brake to be binding:
1. Rusted caliper on the external (should be cleaned and greased).
2. Rusted caliper on the inside (should be cleaned or mildly sand-papered and the seal/kit or caliper rubber replaced).
3. Failed brake flexible hose (should be replaced).

If your front two wheels or the four wheels brake are binding, then the culprit is probably the Master Cylinder. If only the 2 rear wheels are binding, then the emergency/hand brake should be the first thing to check, especially the cable or the springs on the rear calipers.

It must have been given you sign but you failed to noticed. Your vehicle symptom would be steering the wheel to the left side, when in motion and when you are not holding the steering. Even when on top speed, you would have been noticing that the vehicle would be pulling to oneside (left side) and you will be struggling to steer it back to the road or hold the steering wheel firmly, for it not to steer off the road. Also, the fuel consumption would be very high as well, since the engine would be struggling hard to pull the vehicle while on constant brake, hence more power needed and more fuel for the more power been used.

Always pay attention to your vehicle.

appleton: At last the excessive fuel consumption is all over. The 'Culprit' are missing radiator thermostart, faulty air flow sensor, faulty EGR sensor and faulty oxygen sensor

After replacing these items, my fuel consumption improved TREMENDOUSLY. Now Full tank of fuel would last the whole week.

For those with similar issues with their cars. I'll refer you to the address below where I fixed mine.

Car TalkRe: How Many Kilometres Can Your Car Travel Per Litre Of Fuel? by Ikenna351(m):
The topic of this thread makes it uninteresting to peep in.

The usual way of checking a vehicle fuel economy or consumption rate is by how many litres your vehicle consumes every 100 kilometers or how many miles it does for a gallon (city & highway figures stated separately. It makes more sense than 1 litre per how many km. Are you a miser? Lol!

Then, a Petrol Head like me would instead check how many kilometers or miles does my vehicle get out of 50 litres or full tank, for the city and highway.

There was a girl that posted here (Berem or something is her name) people attacked. I wouldnt blame the girl for what she said because the topic does really sound weird. You dont count kobo kobo to know how much your monthly expenditure is. Instead, you check your account or earning at every month end to know how your strength of savings is or if you are been wasteful.

klairekk: tanx for d effort bro....the car came wt block 2.0...so the mech said bt more inquiries lead me to another mech who said an ew10 would work better, althou the 2.0 block wil work same bt wil need to remove the ABS which am skeptical about.
Wetin person no go hear from these mechanics! What does ABS got to do with engine? Hm! Anyway, we have 5 types of 2.0 406 engine: XU10 J4R, XU10 J2TE (Turbo), EW10 J4 (RFV), EW10 J4 (RFR) & EW10 D. I believe the ECUs of these engines would differ, together with their harness. It would be better to put back exactly the same engine in, unless you want to do conversion. Trying a different engine with another harness and ECU might work, but its the risk worth taking? I leave you to answer that.

And please ABS has nothing to do with the type of engine in that engine bay, unless the harness differs. What type of clown did you open that your bonnet for?

No idea.

But why do you need the engine in the first? Is it for replacement? Is EW10 the car originally came with or is the EW10 the engine in the 406 you want ro replace? Why the need for the EW10?
