Note that an old thermostat that have worked more than 100,000 km is on borrowed time. A weak, aged or fake thermostat would usually open before it should, stop half way (refuse to open fully), or stays open longer than it should, which increases fuel consumption, sometimes, as if there is no thermostat in the system.

Use original parts in your lion and take your eyes of the part for another thousands or hundreds of thousands of kilometers or years of trouble-free ownership.

I agree with ur latter comment...but no no no and no...they aren't the same..consider the 301 an upgrade from the 206...the 408 is an upgrade from the 307...they aren't the same...I have driven a 307 but not a 301....but I have been in one....that 301 is a slowpoke...driving experience is more like that of a 206.

Peugeot 301 is not an upgrade of Peugeot 206. The 301 that got this award was a reintroduction of Peugeot 301 model, which was first produced decades ago. And Peugeot 408 you referred to was not an upgrade of Peugeot 307. Peugeot 308 replaced 307. The 408 is a new introduced model.

If you want to review a car, you have to be technically specific. To say Peugeot 301 is very slow sounds like a beer parlour opinion. The current Peugeot 301 that got this award has more than one petrol engine, with different hp/powers. So, you are saying the 1.2 liter 3-cylinder engine in 301 must posses same power with 301 with other 4-cylinder engines, including transmissions? So if the Peugeot 301 with the 1.2 liter engine felt slow to you (if that was the one you were driven in), does that make all Peugeot 301 same in terms of power? Besides, people that buy cars with less powerful engines are not interested in power, but low fuel consumption. Specifications of cars indicate people with particular intention or purposes cars are targeted to or designed for. It cut across all car brands.

Same way you cant say Peugeot 206 are slow, when probably you drove one with 1.4 liter TU3 75 hp engine, when there are about 5 petrol engines in 206 you haven't experienced, ranging from 75 hp - 180 hp. Would you say the same thing if you had driven Peugeot 206 with TU5JP, TU5JP4, EW10J4 & EW10J4S? Those that buy 206 with TU3 engines are probably not interested in power, but a 206 that consumes very little amount of fuel, with less powerful engine.

Learn all these things before you review or start criticizing a car. It's all about specificity or specifications. Even this Peugeot 301 that got this car of the year award is the outdated model. The sale of the revised or newer model of the lion is expected to start next year, 2017, by PAN, and also expected to be sold with the Peugeot PureTech engines that was awarded world Engine of the year 2 consecutive times.

Note that I am not trying to stop you from criticizing Peugeot 301 & Peugeot 206 if that's what you want. I only pointed out the positives about those Lions you probably didn't know and might be interested to know, including other people that read this thread. In every subject, there is positive and negative side of it, depending on the one you choose to focus on that gives you joy.

When you want something and doubt it, you split your energy. You love Peugeot 206 & 406, yet you added "but" in your desire, "I don't want to buy a wrong car". When you doubt something, you attract negativity to it. So don't be surprised when you receive negative response on these lions in this thread. Because Universe doesn't hear what you say, it hears what you mean, and brings to you what you mean. What you meant was you are not sure of your desire.

Peugeot 206 had TU3, TU5 & EW10 Inline-4 petrol engines, while Peugeot 406 had XU7, XU10, EW7, EW10, EW12 & ES petrol engines. 206 will consume less in fuel. However, fuel consumption is belief system, for 406 fuel consumption is quite amazing as well, including one with V6 engine. A 406 with V6 engine can do about 800 km with 70 liters, while one with 4 cylinder petrol engine can do over 800-900 km on 70 liters or full fuel tank in a journey. Fuel consumption is not always determined by car, but by driver, especially on highway.

Both lions are very reliable and durable. 800k can get you a Tokunbo 206, but not sure it can get you a tokunbo 406, especially D9 (phase II), except Nigerian used or D8.

Car Talk community made it sound like Siena did something wrong. He didn't. We are all in no ending journey on our different paths. You meet people on your journey, and some people you met will fade away as you continue into the journey while meeting new people. Sometimes, the people that faded away would come into experience again, probably to serve another purpose for you or them in your journey.

Few days ago, I met someone I used to share a Peugeot group with a long time ago. He said since I left the group, things were never the same. A lot of members left too. Even the current members have started switching to other brands, including him.

The thing is, they used me as object of attention on Peugeot. For that, my appreciation of lions were flowing back to them, because using me as object of attention on the subject Peugeot, put them on the same frequency where I have always been, and they have nothing but love and appreciation for their individual lions and were enjoying them. Being in that positive frequency on the subject kept them away from having negative experiences with their lions. But when I left and moved on, they probably shifted from that frequency.

One message most people don't understand from some Masters is, "You Can Be Like Me". That's what I have been doing; that's what Siena did here. I have known Siena for a long time and understood him perfectly. He never wanted followers. He needed people to stop making excuses and start taking care of their cars. And that's what I have done and still do. Because you really don't need me or Siena to look after your car, if you really love that car. When you love something, you will be so impatient to want to know how to keep that feeling alive in you as long as it takes and whatever it takes. What you love is not anyone's responsibility. You may not need to know how use spanners, but you can as well know what shouldn't be done on your car. Because, in Nigeria, it's not always what people don't do to their cars that put them in bad conditions, but mostly, what they do to them. Call it abuse, if you want to. How you feel about your car determines how you handle your car. Siena's departure from Nairaland shouldn't be an excuse for one not to know what it takes to keep a car you love in good shape. His words are still there and always there for those that needs them.

As for the new members you talked about. How they respond doesn't bother me. My posts are not to impress anyone. They just flow through me. Those in the same frequency will understand. Others in different frequency will perceive the message differently, which is any of my business. A lot people (both Nairaland members and non members) have switch to Peugeot after reading my posts and still do. Some now enjoy their lions after reading the posts, while some perceive them differently. There is nothing wrong with their perception. Its called contrast. So don't worry about it.

First of all, driving in Lagos traffic can be a b*tch! I can't imagine driving a manual car... with the clutching, and braking, and shifting of gear. Life's too short for dislocated shoulders and muscle pulls.

Secondly, I don't know when to shift. Gear one, after 5 seconds, I move to two, and I stay there till the car starts making weird noises, then I shift to three... in that manner.

After driving a car with Automatic transmission, nothing would make me drive manual.

Which would you rather drive, and why? A car with a manual transmission, or one with automatic transmission?

Which is exactly what I hate! It's too stressful.

Some years back, my dad had a problem with his left knee. He was advised (by doctors), and warned (by his wife) to stop using his manual car, and use the auto instead. The guy no hear word.

I guess there's just something about it that people love.

It's a good thing to choose and decide what you want or prefer this to that. Gghhhhh

For now, I can only vouch for OEM brake disc & pads for 407 (popularly known as PAN). There could be other good aftermarket brands in Nigeria already. It's up to you.

My Peugeot 407 has been giving several problems recently, from the clutch disk and plate , to the gear cable from that now the car is jerking and as a result of that it doesn't rev as expected, bought in UK and converted in ibadan its carries a ew10 engine and the mileage has hit 180000 bought it in 2012 and yes it has been showing depolution system faulty, abs braking system faulty too I need help. And can you recommend any professional lion mechanic in ilorin. Thanks

I don't get myself involved in driving position converted lions.

As for depollution and ABS warning faults, find and scan the Lion's engine ECU & ABS ECU with PP2000.

I hardly visit Nairaland these days. Sometimes it takes weeks or months to visit. But this afternoon, i got this impulse to visit. This thread was the first that got my attention. After reading through, I now understand why my Inner being wanted me to visit.

I know the feeling of knowing what you want and focusing on it irrespective of distractions. Once you understand the working of Universe, the clarity can give you goose bumps. Life experience is what teaches and not words.

There was really no nead for you to state limitations on what you are reseacrhing or asking of, because the moment you do, Universe will match you with circumstances or people that line up with your asking or frequency. You meant well for your friend's neighbour, but at the same time pointing out what you called limitations in his reality, like his low monthly income. Universe doesnt hear what you say, it hears what you mean. Because what you are saying is, "I want this good thing for my friend's neghbour but....." That "But" is what you mean and that's why you got responses that were negative. What you put out is what you get back.

If your friend's neighbour's defines owning car as a liability because that is other peoples belief, it will become his experience whenever he chooses to owns a car, this year, next year or next 5 years, it doesn't matter unless he change that belief. But if he/she defines his/her strong desire owning a car as something positive that will lead to more good things for him to experience, then let him rejoice for more gifts lined up in his path are on his door.

The 50k monthly income is a condition, a past condition. Because it can change the next moment, same way one can seize to exist physically the next moment. Moment to moment appreciation is the greatest gift you can give to yourself, rather than seeking for your value from conditions (people, wallet, circumstances, etc) that have no idea what your path is. Your Inner being knows your path to what you want and who you want to become, and leads you to those desires born inside you through paths only He understands. But when you make other people around you your Inner being, well, you disconnect yourself from your power to enjoy life you came to experience. You are WORTHY at every point in life to have and live all the best things in life you want. There are students, NYSC corp members and some people that own cars that don't experience that amount of income monthly, yet they are happier than some that earn more than that 50k. No matter how much you save monthly, if you are not happy and don't find a way to make & keep yourself happy, things will come into your experience and take those monies away to keep you unhappy because that's what you mean. Clarity is the understanding that desires manifest non physically or spiritually before they become physical. It's not the other way round.

If your friend's neghbour feels afraid or have a belief that he is not worthy yet to own a car, according to others beliefs or definitions of his condition, then let him do himself a favour: stay away from owning a car for now. Because that fear will manifest if he ventures. But if he always have a feeling of joy whenever the thought of owning a car crosses his mind, then it's time for him or her to own a car, for that is his highest excitement now. How you feel is how your inner being tells you what next. Not how i feel or how they feel, but HOW YOU FEEL.

I didn't come to this thread to tell your neighbour's friend what car to buy. I came to do what my Inner being guided me here to do: to inform you that things are always working out for you no matter what, because you always make the right choice, if you are reading this.

Last year, I drove my 1986 Peugeot 505 V6 stick from Abuja to Kaduna (about 200 km) and it consumed 18 liters of fuel in the entire journey. However, I have also done same distance with same lion with fuel consumption higher than 18 liters.

On highway, it's not the vehicle that determines fuel consumption. It's the driver.

As for Peugeot 504, Anambra to Enugu (Awka to be precised) is less than 90 km. If my 505 V6 can be that fuel efficient on 200 km journey, then 504 with 4-cylinder engine will do the 90 km journey with less than 10 liters of fuel.

Peugeot 406 will consume less, if that's what you are asking.
