kuntash: Ikenna the peugeot expert....Similar ? Yes, but not identical. For example, Peugeots have bleed valves for their cooling systems, while some car brands don't. Like the ES9J4S in my 406 V6, the cooling system has 3 bleed valves. Meaning, no matter how stubborn a trapped air in the cooling system is by refusing to go out, it will easily be bled out at any of the 3 bleed valves at different locations. And Peugeot cooling system is bled when engine is not running and when engine is cold. But for some brands, the engine have to be running while bleeding the cooling system, especially those without bleed valves, i think. Some, as i read, the front end need to be jacked up while bleeding the cooling system. My point is, benz may a different or better method of troubleshooting its cooling system, which i do not know of. @ aikerism, If you are replacing the thermostat (if you still have one there, that is), make sure you bleed the cooling system. The clowns that remove thermostat have a way of making you feel bad going against their suggestions. A cooling system without thermostat can tolerate air lock/air in the system without overheating, unless you are stuck in a traffic jam for a long time, since the water pump will be circulating the fluid from engine to radiator and back to engine continuously, since there is no obstruction anymore, and the constant spinning of the fan will help in preventing the boiling of the fluid. But with thermostat in, there will be obstruction. And with air behind the thermostat in the cylinder head, the trapped air will immediately boil uncontrollably and then the overheating starts. Thats why when they warn you against re-installing the thermostat and you insist, they will install it like you ask without proper bleeding or no bleeding at all. Few minutes as soon as you drive out, you will drive back with some sorry face "You told me so!". Find out how to bleed benz cooling system and do it yourself or insist they do it properly, after re-installing the thermostat. Good luck. Ikenna |
aikerism: I have not checked the thermostat before... I will have it checked in the next hour and update the house... And pls this BEHR brand how much is it sold? Cos am heading to Apo Mechanic Village now nowI dont know about Benz, but below is how to test Peugeot cooling system Thermostat while its still in the system/engine. You may find it useful for your Benz. http://peugeotarena.com/how-to-test-peugeot-engine-cooling-system-thermostat-while-its-still-in-engine/ Ikenna |
Peugeot 5008 is now on sale in Abuja. Was surprised to see it in one of the brand new Peugeot dealers here in Abuja. In Wuse, to be precised. http://www.topspeed.com/cars/peugeot/2010-peugeot-5008-ar75024.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb4ng3TV51U Ikenna |
aikerism: Uncle Kuntash, truth is I have had this car for 11 months now and it has NEVER gotten to 40 something degrees before its always between 18 and 30 something... Don't know if its a fault or its normal. aikerism: Yes its low... But I though that's supposed to be a good thing. As long as d vehicle doesn't go off and all that.Be ready to change that engine soon when it eventually dies, aside rich running, if you keep running that engine in that temperature. Ikenna |

Peugeot, Renault To End Production Alliance In France http://au.news.yahoo.com/world/a/19941312/peugeot-renault-to-end-production-alliance-in-france/ Ikenna |
Sometime last month, on a Sunday actually, I drove to NEXT in my SV D9 (406 V6 Stick). I got what i went there for and on the way out, I stopped at traffic light at the junction close to NEXT gate (those in Abuja would know the one). While i was waiting for the traffic to pass us into the expressway, I saw a new Toyota Yaris behind me via my interior rearview mirror, waiting for the traffic light to give us go ahead into the expressway as well. The green light eventually came. Fortunately, I was in a mood for some fun. So i pushed the throttle pedal down hard, while i shift the stick in seconds. Well you know what will be the rest. Unfortunately, I didn't know the way and manner my SV D9 stick left the Toyota yaris behind when the traffic light passed us, got the driver in the Yaris upset. Probably, to prove a point to the passenger seating in the car, which i saw in my mirror then, the yaris man gave me a chase or whatever you may call it. Because while i was catching my fun behind the wheel with the matching stick, i saw a Black Toyota Yaris behind me, seriously struggling to get close and overtake. Looking again on the mirror proved that it was the same Yaris I left behind and have forgotten all about it. Hmm! "Wahala dey o!", i muttered while i shaked my head. Now, the option left for me to help the yaris was to slow down to let him overtake him, to please him. Or, to leave him behind again. Well, i couldnt sacrificed the fun i was having to please some yaris guy. So I chose the 2nd option. What did i do then? I shifted the stick down to the 4th gear and push the throttle very hard. By the time i shifted it up to the 5th gear again, i checked the rearview mirror and i saw something far far away that look like stationary object. But the black colour of the object made me realise it was the same Yaris. I shaked my head again, and continued with my fun. I got to the bridge that leads to Garki II (Aminu Kano Crescent), so I slowed down to divert, climbed down and enter the expressway that lead to Area 1 roundabout. Those that know that road would understand how sharp the bend is, which one must slow down. But all of sudden, while in the bend, I saw that same Yaris again, forging towards behind on high speed. I became scared, thinking it would lose control, spin and crashed or hit my car. This guy in this car continued on the same speed and entered the bend just to overtake a "Peugeot 406" he though disgraced him. To be very honest, I thought this car would turn over when he speed past me in that bend. It was a miracle that he survived it. I started wondering, "What could make one be so foolish behind the wheel to drive in that manner?" So of all the car he has seen, he chose to prove to a Peugeot 406 how powerful his brand new Toyota Yaris is? Seriously? Of course, i gave him the benefit of the doubt that he didnt see the two "V6" badges stamped on the 2 front fenders of my Lion. But did he actually think that even his "new" Yaris can stand a N/A I4 Peugeot 406 on the highway, if they were to race? Now my question is, what do Nigerians actually look for in a car when they are hunting for one to buy? Ask an average Nigerian, he would tell you " Car na Car". So for that, V6 or performance cars should be avoided, since even a car with 50 hp will behave the same way a 150 hp car would do. You want a green car, yet you expect it to give you behind the wheels what those cars you call "gas guzzlers" give those that drive them? I may sound mean here, but if that Yaris had lost control in that bend and somersaulted, I wouldnt have stopped to even peep how it ended up. We all gonna leave this World. But how you decide to leave (God's making or your own making) its upto to you. What he did was pure suicidal, luckily, he survived it. Now lets check out the two cars powertrain involved. 1. Toyota Yaris, 2005 - till present. Because I do not know the exact engine in the car, a little study i carried out showed that the Yaris of that generation has 3 engines: *1kR-FE: 1.0 L, 71 hp, 53 kilowatts. *2NZ-FE/2SZ-FE: 1.3 L, 84 hp, 63 KW. *1NZ-FE: 109 hp, 81 kW. 2. Peugeot 406 V6, 2000 model. *ES9J4S: 3.0 L, 210 hp, 152 KW. Now the man wants to prove a point with the above figures to who? When one is looking for a car to buy, he/she needs to ask himself what he needs the car for; the purpose the car is coming in to serve. A city car is designed for that purpose and nothing more. Even when you drive it on highway, you should use or drive it as designed for. If you are after a highway or speed vehicle or fun car, then find and get one designed for it. For example, most V6 cars or turbocharged I4s are installed special ssuspensions to handle the speed they are designed for and make the handling better on high speed. Most V6 or performance cars are fiited Electronic Stability program (ESP) and other similar speed related programs. For example, my former Peugeot 605 V6 was fitted electronic dampers on the 4 wheels, such that once the speed exceed 80 km/h or so, the dampers would suddenly drop the car closer to ground and the handling will become something else. But as soon as the speed start reduceing, the dampers would raise the car up again. Even the turbocharged 605 didnt get that suspension, except the V6. Do I miss that car? Yes, everyday! If you want to be doing some '007 stuffs behind the wheel, look for a car that is designed to safely give you that. But if you are so much after mpg, then swallow it and look the other way when some beast speed past you as if you were stationary. Because, you cant eat your Cake and have it. You gain some, you lose some. You gain mpg, you lose performance. Ikenna. |

Identify your Peugeot engine cylinders https://www.nairaland.com/1522652/how-well-know-engine-which Ikenna |
Not long ago, I went to scan a Peugeot 406 that has been given the owner some injection issues. And there was a Mechanic already on the car, scratching his head, not knowing the name of winch that have made the car to refused running properly. Well, I did my own Abracadabra with my PP2000 and the winch name popped up immediately The winch name was "cylinder 2 Misfire detected" and the winch code was P0302. At least, the winch has been exposed. It was left for us to point at it, to the car owner, the winch that has been given him nightmares. Unfortunately, the dear mechanic was pointing at Innocent, accusing Innocent for giving him sleepless night and his Oga nightmares. Guess who was the poor Innocent? Cylinder #3. First, I wanted to ask the mechanic how many shots of Kai-Kai did he take, but change my mind, because his name could be "Innocent" too. To cut the story short, he may not actually be wrong, since it appears other car brands have different numbering/position of cylinders. Unfortunately, he was wrong to point at cylinder ttttttth (*removed*). Peugeot Cylinders #1 -#6 Now, Peugeot numbers their engine cylinders from ttttttth (*removed*) Other Brands Now, Itttttt (*removed*) Ikenna. Edited on 26/05/2020. |
TernyB: Hi every1 please I have a question on the 406.This your numbers 1 & 2 questions get as e be. Which one be black engine and silver engine kwa? As for your number 3 question, D8 is 1995-1998 year models, while D9 is 1999-2010 (depends though, since D9 production ended in 2004 in France/Europe, but continued in other plants outside Europe). We have Diesel and Petrol engines in both D8 and D9. We have different petrol engines in both D8 and D9. Now, which one do you want to know? Petrol or Diesel engines models in D8, D9 or both? pankere: Most of these foreign coolants are not available locally but I use one called prestone coolant. Its prediluted so no need to add water and it mixes with any previous coolant in your vehicle so no need to flush the previous one. And it also mixes with any colour of coolant in your vehicle. I haven't had any overheating problems since I started using itWhatever you do, do not mix 2 different of coolant colours for whatever reason, unless you plan to replace your cylinder head soon. If you make that mistake, the fluid in that system will turn into something that looks like pap (Akamu) or mud. If you are not sure of the coolant colour in the system, flush/renew the coolant. All coolant, irrespective of brand, I have seen so far in Nigerian market are all premixed. Don't mix them again with water, unless you don't mind to over dilute the coolant and render them useless in the cooling system. Ikenna. |
1. Brake binding: Touch the front side of the wheel the car pulls to when you brake, after 10-20 minutes. If that wheel feels hotter than the other 3 wheels, then fix what is causing that caliper on the hub to bind the disc. 2. Alignment. Wrong or improper aligned front wheels will give similar symptom. 3. Faulty PAS system. Some newer cars have been reported to have defective PAS systems from factory, that pull to one side when brake is applied. I wouldn't know if your brand and model is included. Also, since I do not understand your PAS system, I won't comment on this. 4. ABS. I can't think of any other possible culprit for now. Good luck. Ikenna |

Update on how to renew Power Assisted Steering Fluid in 406: I have updated the post with detailed description of how to do the above subject. Find it below: http://peugeotarena.com/how-to-safely-flush-peugeot-406-power-steering-fluid-and-refill-with-new-fluid/ Ikenna |
segzyndpep: Hello Mr ikenna how confirm is the fact that excessive fueling of car can affect the caty?and what does it mean we should be careful of where we buy fuel?Yes, excessive fueling will be sending raw fuel to the caty which will heat and burn the combs/stuffs inside the caty gradually. Bad fuel will not burn well during the explosion in those chambers, and will be pushed out via exhaust valve to the caty and clog/destroy it. Bad fuel will also kill your oxygen sensors, especially the upstream sensor. Good morning house. Ikenna |
