issy1500: But could a faulty CTS make my car to be having random cylinder misfiring at early morning start up interchangeabilly switching from one cylinder to another from time to time at start up and immediately the car reaches operating temperature all will be well again?Misfiring is usually symptom of an ignition issue. A faulty CTS would cause engine flooding, hard starting and hesitation at cold start. Am not sure about misfiring. Ikenna. |
issy1500: Thanks Ikenna for ur response.CTS: Coolant Temperature Sensor. Its usually located around Thermostat housing. It should have 2-wire connector. Ikenna. |

Now, we can rule out the RHD convert. But then, the AL4 (transmission). Also, the Lion has 2-speed fan factory connection, not 3-speed like in my 406. Its possible that the AL4 is designed to work with ABS, since AL4 is an adaptive transmission: that is, it learns and adapts to driving style, to give one sporty pleasurable driving, which other auto transmission in Lions in that era lack. Very sporty, i tell you, but less reliable than the others. What usually cause the AL4 failure is the transmission solenoid. When replaced, usually fix the issue(s). Replacing the AL4 trans is not ideal, since the one you are putting in may be having a failing trans solenoid as well, which may make the transmission fail again, sooner than you expect. Rebuild is the best solution. But then, you will have to source for the solenoid online, since am not sure its available in Nigeria. Besides, getting another AL4 in good condition in Nigeria is very difficult. Even whrn you do, they cost more than 150k. At least, i know that AL4 in 406 V6, 407 V6 and 607 V6 cost 250k or so. People simply convert theirs to manual. Note that manual trans for I4 Lions (like 406) cost between 8k-20k,depending on the grade. PP2000 will direct you to the particular wheel that its ABS sensor is faulty. Universal scanner wont help you on that. Lets hope the mechanic will eventualy find the faulty ABS wheel sensor. As for the AC overheating issue, pressure wash the radiator fins, bleed the cooling system and make sure the speed 2 comes on when AC is running while car is stationary. If not, its either the speed 2 relay is faulty or they have tampared with the factory radiator fan relays connections. Ikenna. |

@ Dr. Joe, Can you post the VIN here? I want to find out the auto transmission type in that car and to find out if its RHD convert or Factory LHD, with the VIN. VIN is the 17 digits that starts with VFxxx. Ikenna. |
I would check the values of CTS. If its giving you more than 3 volts in the morning before cranking the engine, then the CTS is faulty, its flooding the engine. Also, does your engine have cold start injector? Ikenna. |
francismic: PLS LISTEN TO MY OWN SIDE STORY ABOUT THE CARUK? Are you saying the car is a RHD convert? Ikenna. |
I dont even know where to start. But i have to start somewhere. My issue is not even with the seller, but your friend's brother. Because, you probably wouldnt have bought the car if he had told you he wasnt sure of the car or that he couldnt really tell how good the car was. But he told you "you are safe to make the purchase" , simply because of naira that will never be enough to solve ones problem. The thing people can do because of money! If you had posted the link above to the Peugeot community before the purchase, you wouldnt have made that purchase. Because by mere looking at the engine bay, a lot of the Lion owners there would have adviced you to walk away. I could tell the engine is not even the popular EW10, even though there is nothing wrong with the engine inside that car. But the availability or accessibility of parts and technical know how of that engine by our mechanics is my concern. They are already conversant with the popular XU10 & EW10. And the worst part is the transmission. If the auto transmission in that car is the dreaded AL4, then you are in for it. I wouldnt have adviced you to buy that Lion if i had seen it before purchase, no matter how cheap it is. ABS and auto trans ECU shouldnt be interconnected. But with AL4 (if thats the transmission), i wouldnt be surprised. Scanning the car with PP2000 will tell you which of the ABS wheel sensors that is faulty. Universal scanner wont be specific, but pp2000 will tell you which wheel sensor that is the culprit and how to fix it. As for your AC and over heating issues, how you sure the culprit isnt airpocket? Whats the condition of the expansion bottle container cap? Hope no one has tampered with A/C fan connection? Note that Peugeots of that era had 3 fan speed. When AC is switched one, the 2nd speed kicks on and would few mins later kicks in the 3rd speed. The 3rd speed usually kicks in when car is stationary and AC is on. But as soon as car starts moving beyond 60km/h, the 3rd speed goes off, and the 2@nd speed comes back. It would switch to the 1st speed when AC is off and car is in stationary. So, how are sure the 3rd speed relay has not been bypassed or disconnected. If you are in Abuja, bring the car and i would scan it free for you with PP2000. And for everyone reading this, if you want want to buy Peugeot, get the VIN and send it to me. I will get all info about the car for you, including the factory engine and transmission code. Ikenna |
wablet: Hello gurus in the house, pls help I'm confused! I use a pug 607 2001 model and the check engine lite came on about a week ago. I took the car to an auto tech for scanning but unfortunately the scanning portal in the car doesn't work. HoI want to believe the port is perfectly well. Not all scanners work on Peugeots. Scan your lion with diagbox, simply. Ikenna. |
Hi Guys... What's been happening on our thread lately?? Came across a classic pug today; the 403. Fell in love and have been begging the owner to possibly sell the car to me so I can bring it back to naija. :-) Will keep you guys updated....
Very interesting! A friend of mine in Australia is refurbishing his. He loves his and praise her all the time, even though he has also 406 V6 coupe, 505 & 504. He told me 2 weeks ago that he would buy a 406 v6 D8 Saloon too last week, to add to his collection. Ikenna. |

Someone from Lagos once called me that his 206 was terribly emitting white smoke. From his answers to my questions, it was indicating that the head gasket hasnt failed: no loss of coolant, no overheating-temp guage always reading normal, engine oil always guage normal, no discoloured of enigine oil on oil dipstick, etc. So, i was honestly confused, had no idea what could be the cause of the white smoke. Few days later, while in one of the French car forum i belong to, someones posted a query of a similar issue with his Lion. He later diagnosed the Catalytic converter as the culprit, which stopped as soon the caty was replaced. Unfortunately, the number of the 206 guy was no longer in my phone log. I couldnt contact him anymore. I remembered the matter this morning and decided to share it with everyone. The lesson here is that a catalytic converter in our lions or some of them could fail by giving white smoke symptom. Ikenna. |
stagger: If this was the issue, wouldn't the car be overheating continuosly? Like today, I was not in congested traffixc and I had no problems with this.I wouldnt ignore the Sultaan's suggestion, if I were you. In manual troubleshooting, you dont rule out any possible cause of an issue until tested. Sometime in February this year, a Nairalander brought his Nissan Pathfinder to troubleshoot an overheating issue, exactly what is doing: would overheat when the car was stationary, but would stop as soon as the car started moving. I checked the viscous fan, it was cutting in normal. So the viscous clutch/coupling was ruled out. And with the way the viscous fan was doing, it showed that the thermostat was ok. But because the engine was already hot, i told him he has to take the car home since it was getting late. I like troubleshooting an overheating car when the engine/cooling system is still cold. But i showed him how to test for the proper working of thermostat when engine is cold and i also asked him to clean the viscous fan clutch, since if its full with dirt, it will not be sensing heat from the radiator and would declutch when it should. He took my advice and drove home. The next morning, i got a call from him. He told me the issue has been resolved. How?, I asked him. He said he decided to first wash the radiator fins first before carrying out other test, which didnt occur to me that it could also be cause to such overheating issue. He tested it after washing the radiator fins and the car was no longer overheating. Myself, i learnt from it and i was so happy too that he could fix his car himself, which his mechanic was already advicing that he lock the fan clutch to the engine (bad practice). While manually troubleshooting cars, i do start from possible cause(s) that wont cost me a kobo or cost me less. Thats how i eliminate. Ikenna. |
I usually ignore any query/post with such characters. Ikenna. |
Piyke: The culprit was my clogged Air cleaner element known by local mechanics as "engine filter"Congrats! Good to know that you have finally sorted it out. I also believed that you must have learnt other things about your car while troubleshooting this issue. Manual troubleshooting help one to fully understand his/her car; how the cars EFI system function. So that any issue scanner fails to identify for you, you will pull your tool box and prove the scanner wrong. Lol! This also proves that cars EFI and electrical (or brands) systems are not always the same. If it was Peugeot that had this issue, it would have been dislaying "Anti-Pollution Fault" warning on the Multi-function screen. Once a Peugeot with the Multiplex wiring system has a clogged, dirty or damaged airfilter, you will get the Anti-pollution fault warning. Anyway, I arrived Abuja about 3 hrs ago. Will still check Shoprite here for the WD-40. Just want to have it. Ikenna. |
yungboss: okay bro...understood. But here is a suggestion:All you stated above have been the practice. Have you checked the profiles of those that complained they were banned unjustly? The reasons for their ban were/are stated in their profiles, and mails were also forwarded to them regarding their ban/status and the reason for the ban. Moderator |
tigereyes: I want too know from ikenga351 why you think people should be allowed to insult Ijaws but not your tribe? Why did you hide my post? I deliberately posted it to show what I meant. This kind of thing is what is killing this forum. Sorry, but please can you help provide the link to the post that insulted the Ijaws? Note that if an offensive post with tribal slur is hidden and/or the poster banned, any other post that quote that same offensive post will be hidden as well. Did you check if the poster of the offensive post you replied was banned? And please, next time, its Ikenna351, not Ikenga351. Ikenna. |
Piyke: Thanks a lot for the advice Ikenna, my MAP is just beside the throttle body. Never knew shoprite would have fluid for cleaning electrical components. Infact it was because I know carb cleaner isn't good for electrical components like MAF that made me think of replacing it.I arrived Enugu this afternoon, drove to Shoprite and found the WD-40 out of stock. Well, will try the Abuja Shoprite when i get back. Ikenna. |
Please, am begging, lets not be derailing threads intentionally. I will use a thread below as a case study: https://www.nairaland.com/1206432/funny-things-non-car-enthusiasts-say The above thread was created by me actually. Someone, a member, came into the thread to cause trouble, simply because he had an issue with me in another thread. At a point, i tried to make him realise with some posts how wrong he was, not knowing that i was derailing the thread and giving room for more troll in that thread. I had to go back and started from the 1st page of that thread to remove all the wrong posts in that thread, including mine. But two members here deliberately, intentionally and consistently kept derailing that thread that i had no option than to ban those usernames. One came back with his another username and continued with the troll. Usernames involved here are Trac and nony30. If one doesnt like a topic, you could as well not bother to check out the content of the topic or simply lay your complain here. Or you could as well open another thread to counter the other thread and start your campaign the other thread. But going into a thread to cause trouble simply because you dont like the topic of that thread is wrong. There is a difference between having a different opinion about a post and not liking a topic. One has the right to state his different opinion about a post in a thread, but not start causing trouble in a thread simply because you dont like a thread. Thats what this thread is here for. Lay your complaints here, please am begging everyone. This case was the very first time i banned members here in car talk for troll. I didnt enjoy doing it. Thank you. Moderator. |
elektra80: Its called DRL (Daytime Running Lights). I don't know why most Nigerians think if a car has a DRL then its American specs. The thing is most cars with DRL are from Canada because its mandatory that any cars produced in Canada must have it (since 1989). Some American cars also have DRL but not all. Its a safety feature do reduce daytime accident by letting u see an upcoming car from distance (I really don't buy that though, unless in severe weather conditions like snow, fog or heavy rain). Now some Nigerian drivers deliberately turn on their headlamps during the day, You can easily know its not DRL if the light is too bright (DRLs are not very brigh). Also check the tail light, if tail light is on then its not DRL. There's no way u can turn DRL off in most cars produced in Canada.. for some American cars there are ways to turn it off.I dont agree with some of the things you said. By the way, USA & Canada cars are tag American specs. You cannot say because your car Daytime Running light works in a particular way, all cars with that feature work with the same way. My Peugeot 406 is from Sweden. It has the Daytime Running Light. As soon as the engine starts running, the side lights & headlights (dipped) will come on, whether in neutral or in gear (note that mine is manual trans). And my rear/tail lights also come on when the engine is running. You can ask any 406 owner you know that have the Daytime Running Light, am sure they will tell you the same. Ikenna. |
My 2nd Lion has the Daytime Running Light and I love it. Ikenna. |
