nony30: You must also •̸№t forget that we have repented of our old ways.By d way congrats on ur 406 V6!I am yet τ̲̅ȍ see d pix anyway.I └♡̨̐√ƺ d 406 so much cos of its speed. My colleague ran over two brothers on a bike while testing the speed of his newly aquired 406 V6 τ̲̅ȍ Onitsha from Lagos and they died instantly.Needless τ̲̅ȍ sathat he almost lost his life τ̲̅ȍ an angry mob cos he was doing a one way where he wasn't supposed τ̲̅ȍ.but still d 406 by my judgement is a very fine and fast car.I may even sell mine τ̲̅ȍ buy a V6.cheers
Of course, i wasnt referring to our settled closed matter. Lol!

I was saying, generally, Nigerians despise old cars and find it weird seeing people driving them. I have met a lot of forum members that reside in Abuja who had met some negative comment about my 505, when i still had my 605 V6. Some were asking "When will I get rid of the 505", since i have gotten a newer Lion. I would explain to them then why the 505 has come to stay, but some still wouldnt understand and would ask me the question next time we would meet. It started to become annoying to me and i stopped answering. Sometimes, i would answer it in a manner that the person would not dare ask me that again. When i sold my 605 and got the 406, no one has bothered to ask me why still keeping the 505 or shouldnt i have sold the 505 instead of the 605?

The thing is, we all have different taste. Mr. A may not like the looks of a girl Mr. B is going out with or the looks of Mr. A's wife and vice versa. Because no matter how Mr. A tries to explain to Mr. B how attractive he finds that girl or his wife, Mr. B will never understand.

Car TalkRe: Nigerians And Their Bias To (somewhat) Classic Vehicles. by Ikenna351(m):
Unfortunately, Nigeria, Nairaland or Car Talk is a wrong place to talk about older cars.

I do find it difficult to tell people that inspite of all the toys, better mpg and all that, my newly acquired Peugeot 406 V6 D9 stick couldnt take away the love i have for my 505 V6, my Baby. It just couldnt. But thats weird to an average Nigerian.

Older cars had distinctive looks. Older Benz all had their looks that made them Benz wherever you see them. The same is applicable to Peugeot, 403, 404, 504 & 505. It gave the brand the Lion's looks the logo stands for. The same is applicable to the older Volvos. But now, newer cars all look the same. Sometimes, you cant tell which branda car is except from the badge. At the other thread,i couldnt tell a difference between 2013 Honda Accord & Toyota Camry. Though, few brands still try to retain some of their distinctive looks in their newer products, but not as the older ones.

What about the engine sound? You could tell from afar when a Benz W124 is approaching without looking up from the engine note. You could tell when a Peugeot 404, 504 or 505 is coming from the roaring engine note. The same with the older Volvos. But now, every newer car sounds the same.

The only difference between newer cars is that you are sitting in a Benz, Peugeot, VW or Honda. But the looks and the engine notes are the same. Though, quality, toys, handling and performance may differ.

I hardly talk about my 505 in Car Talk. I have other forums where older cars are discussed, valued and appreciated.

Car TalkRe: Hidden Posts, Unnecessary Banning And No Moderator Contact. by Ikenna351(m):
Why do we have to be doing this all over again? There is a complaint thread meant for issues like this. If everyone starts opening thread like this to lay complain, then the whole section will be a mess. I had to go extra mile to be permitted to sticky the Forum rules in this section for everyone to see and not claim ignorance. How many sections of Nairaland have the forum rules stickied? If i had removed this thread, everyone would call me "arrogant, bully, etc". Please, lets keep to these rules for paece sake.

Siena, am really not happy with the content of your post here and the intention of creating this thread. Am still trying to understand why you started this thread? To lay complain or to paint the section moderator, the Admin and the forum bad? How come you didnt state who or what banned you and hid your post? You made it look like the section moderator banned you and hid your post for no just cause. Was it not stated in your profile that it was Antispambot that banned you and hid your post? Since when did Ikenna351 become Antispambot? Please, lets be fair to each other. Now, because of the content or tone of your post, smartchoice had assumed that i did the unjust ban and asked that i clearify the section rule to everyone. How unfair!

My co-mods have been complaining to the Admin that the report button and PM dont work anymore or work once in a while and refused to notify that one have a report mail or PM. Some us could attest that sometimes, you would see a notitication in the forum that you have mail, but you wont receive any mail. The Admin, Seun, knows about this issue and is doing his best to rectify it. No one would set up a business and wont do his/her best to keep it running, profitable and growing. Am not his spokesman but am very aware that he is really tackling the report & PM issues.

Its possible that the Admin didnt get your PM, the same way i didnt receive yours. I read your post and quickly checked my action's folder and saw that you did sent me a PM on 21st April, at 9:43pm, but i didnt receive anymail. I could even see the content of the mail there, but how would i know i have a mail when i didnt receive any?

You talked about having direct contact with a moderator, but my personal email address and personal phone number are clearly stated in my signature. How many moderators have their personal contacts displayed for everyone to see? Has anyone sent me a mail or called me via the email address and phone number without my picking the call or replying the mail? You have my phone number and we do chat through it via Whatsapp. I recalled i saw a message from you via whatspp 2 days ago or so. But for somedays now, i have been busy with work and dealing with some personal issues that i have not chat with anyone via that application. The only message i got from you was "hi" twice. And by the time i checked my unread messages, it was late in the night to chat, thinking probably you wanted us to discuss personal stuffs. If you had stated this issue you had with spambot in that message, i would have treated the matter immediately by unbanning you and making the post in question seen again. At least, a forum member, a friend too, yesterday sent a message to me via the same whatspp. He asked a question. It was hours later, late at night, that i opened the application, read the message and replied him immediately, which i believed he would see and read the next morning. Please, Siena no one intentionally banned you and hid your post. And i didnt receive any PM or report mail from you. You can ask any other moderator you know about the spambot, PM and report button issues, if no one wants to believe me.

Please, lets not be opening thread for issues like this when we have a complaint and suggestions thread. Its clearly stated in the forum rules.

I will take care of the post in question as soon as i post this. And i apologise on behalf of the forum for the issues that you encountered.
How can one tell if the coolant temperature is faulty?
By measuring the resistance and volte values of the sensor, the CTS, with DMM (Digital Mulitimeter).

I dont know about Japs, but I know that Bosch CTS in my Lions would give 5 volts on the wire from ECU to the sensor (off the sensor). And would give 3 volts or less when plugged back on the sensor. I have forgotten the resistance value when tested. It has to be tested with the connector disconnected from the sensor. Test the sensor directly. Will check my workshop manual or car diary when i get home and post the resistance value to expect if still working.

Note that testing the volts values will need the ignition switch to be on (dont start the engine). And it has to be done in the morning before starting the engine (1st cold start) to get the best result or know how good the CTS still is.

Car TalkRe: "Brain Box" And Fuel Consumption by Ikenna351(m): 10:49am On Apr 24, 2013
I once witnessed a mechanic advise a client to either repair or replace "brain box" ie ECU to solve excess fuel consumption. The client did scan his car and the faults registered are, no catalyst, air fuel meter (bank1 sensor1), coolant temperature too low (no thermostat), VVT etc. I don't know much about cars but found it hard to believe "brain box" could be the cause of excess fuel consumption. I could see the heavy deposit of black fumes in the exhaust pipe from afar. So I asked the mechanic why he gave such recommendation. His response was; "we have changed air fuel meter several times, checked the nozzles but the issue remains. the coolant was not replaced because of the age of the engine and distance covered so far (about 194k km) and we replaced the catalyst by constructing one at ladipo. I strongly believe the brain box is the culprit". I still have some doubts so I want the experts here to explain how ECU controls fuel consumption in a car.
Tell your client to run for his dear life from that clown.

From the result of the scan and the symptoms you mentioned, Let him check his oxygen sensor close to exhaust manifold. I would check the values from the sensor and the ECU before replacing the o2. All the same, he could as well as simply replace the o2 with a brand new one, not used one. A failed o2 would cause rich running and sometimes give black smoke symptom, like you observed.

As for the absence of thermostat, well, we have talked about it a lot. You will find related topics on the thermostat in the Car Talk Library. Note that absence of thermostat will increase fuel consumption as well, though shouldnt be the cause of the black smoke, but will contribute.

I hope the CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) is not faulty as well?

As for the VVT, i dont know much about it. Am yet to experienced vvt failure in my car, so i wouldnt know the symptom yet. Lets hope others can you on that.

OAM4J,

I apologise for my previous post here addressed to you publicly, which should have been done via PM or in mod section.

But please, let us (the moderators) in this section treat one another fairly. Lets not give the impression that "My decision here is final". It doesnt feel right to hid your co-mod posts in complaint thread, when those posts are not off-topic. But am not doing the blame thing anymore, but to ask for forgiveness.

I will try and stay out of this thread, so that i dont give the tribal bigots the room to win this war we all have started.

Please, we are good and i pray you accept my apology.

PointB: What is wrong with these mods these days? Why would all the complaints be hidden? Are complaints/suggestion supposed to follow a particular format? If so why are we not made aware?

I raised a genuine issue about the unprofessionalism of a MOD (Ikenna) announcing the ban of OnlyTruth while keeping confidential the name of his so-called friend he banned. Rather than respond, the thread is now now hidden.

Why was OnlyTruth banned, and why does he remain banned? What was the reason for citing his ban as example, even when he never complained about it? I think Seun should step in NOW. This whole thing is getting ridiculous; the MODs seems to have completely lost it! If this is an indirect way of asking us to leave Nairaland please make it clearer.

You can't ask us to complain in this section only to have genuine complaints hidden without any explanation.
@ PointB,
Yes, you are actually right. It was unprofessional for me to announced the ban of Onlytruth. For that i truly aplogise to Onlytruth.

You see, its one of the reasons i dont respond to queries here. Members were accussing me of been selective in the ban. By trying to prove them wrong, i mistakenly cited Onlytruth ban as an example that Igbos too got banned by me on this tribal issue. For that am sorry and apologise to Onlytruth. It wont happen again.

But am surprised that you are saying Onlytruth is still serving his ban, when his ban expired since yesterday at 8:45 pm. Please always check status before complain.
As for my friend that i banned. I banned him for a tribal slur. He is an Igbo as well. I cant state his name anymore, since that would mean acting unprofessional again.

@ OAM4J,

A member complained here in this thread, Desola, seeking for a public apology from me, for wrongly banning her. I tendered the apology and adviced members to desist tribal slur in that same apology. But why you went and removed those 2 posts is what i dont understand. Her complaint shouldnt be hidden, the same with the apology. Where else. Isnt that what this thread is for? Please, OAM4J, you are acting as if you are the only mod in this section. Its very wrong. You dont get to decide yourself alone how your co-mods carryout their functions. I was pulled into this Section because of the mess this section had turned into. At the beginning, i quietly asked you to stay out of this, so that we dont allow tribal bigots to create conflicts between us, but its like thats what you wanted. Please, dont frustrate my work here. I have been staying away from other mod work in this section and concentrating on reducing tribal hate. Meaning, am not here to challenge you. As soon as sanity is restored, believe me, i will take my leave.

To everyone,

If you have any query for me on my campaign against Tribal hate, please post them here:

https://www.nairaland.com/1252090/no-more-tribal-attack-politics

I originally created that thread for such complains, but i was surprised to find it locked. But since am not allowed to operate in this thread as a co-mod, i will unlock the thread.

@ Desola,

Am very disappointed in you. I thought i was apologising to a lady; someone who i thought was in pain, but i was wrong obviously. So, of all that i said to you in that mail, you felt nothing? Thats too bad. Am giving you the permission to copy and paste that mail i sent to you, apologising for wrongful ban. I even said some personal stuffs in the mail to make you understand how sorry i felt, but i never knew you are such a hardened fellow. Its unbelievable how all your posts in this section are so negative. Nothing to show love for your fellow human being, as long as he/she is not your tribe. An African lady is expected to be a promoter of peace at home and her environment, but yours is all full of hate. Am sorry, if i sounded harsh, but thats my observation.

You want my public apology? Fine. Desola, am very sorry for wrongfully banning you for an offence you didnt comit on the day of the ban. Am truly sorry. I pray that ypu accept the apology.

For the non-Igbos, okoro is a name and a slang (derogatory), depending on how its used. The same is applicable to the tribal word "Mgbeke", a name and a slang (derogatory). An Igbo would understand what it means to call an Igbo lady Mgbeke in this present time. Am not here to explain what they both means when used as slangs.
Igbo is the official and Informal acceptable name. Anyone calling an Igbo other than "Igbo" is simply asking for trouble. Can you show me a proof where local, states and Federal govt have officially refer to Igbos as Ibos?

And to you Desola, be very careful the manner you address Igbos as Ibos. That i have never banned anyone yet for that doesnt mean it should be taken for granted. And be careful too how you spell my name: ikena. If you cant type Ikenna, then type username "Ikenna351". You have been intentionally addressing me as ikena. My patience has limit.

I have took my time to read some of the debates going on recently in this section. Never knew Nigerians can be that intelligent. Very beautiful write-ups were one wont have to insult another tribe before he or she concludes his or her post. Learn from them. Hating another being, simy because he is not from your tribe will eat you alive slowly. I wonder how ypu will be treating an employee of yours that is not from your tribe, if you are an employer of labour. In that my mail, i stated that the company i work for is owned by 2 yorubas and they have been treating me well. I wonder what then is wrong in Nairaland.

Allowing people like you to adress Igbos as Okoro is the same thing as asking that Igbos are allowed to call Yorubas all Offensive or derogatory names against Yorubas that heve been stopped or censored. But then, that would be unfair to the innocent ones who come to this section to debate on neutral ground, not minding the tribe of the person he or she is arguing with.

I told you in that mail that i would make it up to you for what i put you through. But am not sure i can keep that promise anymore, because made me feel it was a mistake to ask for forgiveness privately. I have learnt my lessons.

A lot Igbos have been banned by me here, even though am an Igbo too. Even Onlytruth was recently banned by me here for inciting tribal war with a thread. I have even banned a friend here too, not happy about it, but someone has to do this dirty job, even if i have to sacrifice my friendship with some Nairalanders. As long as one insult another forum members siblings, parents or tribe, he gets ban from me. I have made a lot of friends in Nairaland. Some of them in Abuja visit me frequently in my houseand office. Guess how many forum members Igbos that have visited me? Only 2. The rest are non- Igbos and good and valued friends to me. So, if you think am here to fight for the Igbos, you are mistaking. I enforce forum rules on whoever breaks it, irrespective of tribe.

Finally, desola, drop antagonism. Its not healthy.

@ Trac,

I maynot be perfect (which is normal), but do you have to be stalking me by pulling out all my posts here since I joined Nairaland? So, you are that serious to really go that far? Hope you know what it means when a man is stalking a lady? But when a man is stalking a fellow man, ha! Please, what you are doing is disgusting. I dont know your true intention of creating this thread. But for the record, please, i find only females attractive o! Just saying.

@ nony30,

I really dont understand your issue with me. We had a fight in Peugeot thread over an issue. Were those your posts hidden or were you banned? You expressed a different opinion about older Peugeots and expressed mine over yours. What you said there was uncalled for in that section. Since the Peugeot thread was created, we have been discussing mainly 307, 406, 407 & 607, uptill the 15th page. Someone now posted a query about an issue with his 504 and we started to discuss 504 and trying to suggest how the member could solve the issue. You just said older Lions like 504 shouldnt be discussed in that thread. How fair does that sound? Put yourself in that man's shoes? By trying to tell him he didnt belong in that thread, when the topic reads "Peugeot Thread", without discriminating any particular model? Yes, i reacted to that your posts. But lets no be pushing blames here. If i did actually overeacted with my comments to you on that post, am sorry, I appologise. We are both Peugeot lovers and both stay in Abuja. Lets move on. But please, let those that use older Lions be free to join us. Such comments of yours would scare them away. By the way, i would advice your use multiple username names. Its a bannable offence. You will be the only and last person i would give this notice. Next time, no one will get any warning from me before a forum rule is implemented. No be me cause am.

To everyone,

Some of you have said that i am just a quack who know nothing about cars. Fine, i have decided long before now to stop commenting or minimize my comments/ to queries in Car Talk, even in the Peugeot Thread where i like most. After all, the section is in a better hands of people who knows cars better than i do. If one is observant, you would find that you hardly see my post in this section anymore. Like i said, you guys are in better hands after all.

Car TalkRe: Observation And Criticisms by Ikenna351(m):
All I could say here is i caused this, by not implementing the Forum rules and regulations since the creation of this section. I chose not to implement the forum rules aside adverts and tribal slurs. When i now enforced one that has been left, some members took it as uncalled for, since breaking of rules have become norm in the car talk.

Well, you guys have forced my hand. I will fetch the Forum rules and sticky it in this section. And when i do, i will implement them to the last. Its no longer my fault.

Some are saying "Why should a post be hidden?". What an ungrateful statement! So, even all the adverts and tribal slurs i have been removing since i became mod should have not been removed, because the forum rules shouldnt be enforced on car talk members? Does it mean no one visits other section of this forum to see if posts are hidden or not? You derail a thread by posting off topic, and when it is hidden, then the mode is bullying? Hmm! Like i earlier noted, we all have been breaking this particular rule, including myself, in this section. But when i realised my mistake and decided to correct it, i became "arrogant, wicked, etc"?

Some of us dont even know the gravity of rules we break in Car Talk? When someone commits a bannable offence, he opens a mulitple account and come back to announce he or she is back to continue where he/she stopped? Have i banned anyone for that? But this is a rule the admin would frown at me if they find out that i have not been implementing.

Its too bad some people who didnt even bother to actually find out what happenened in the thread Trac is attacking me over, just assumed that Op must be right about he said Ikenna351 did in that thread. A thread was peacefully started, someone came in to attack me with off topic post, about two of our Lions, while the topic was not related to any brand, product or to any member, simply because we had a fight in Peugeot thread about Newer Peugeots vs Older Peugeot in Peugeot thread, and the member jump into the new thread to continue the fight. I mistakenly tried to respond to his posts derailing the thread, not knowing i was also contributing in trolling. Trac came in to defend the trouble-maker, nony30, by posting some posts with personal grudge he had against me. We both exchanged some posts attacking each other. I realised how wrong i was and seized to comment in that thread. Both Trac and nony30 continued with the trouble, by posting posts or position not meant for that thread. At a point, i came back and told Trac that we both have been derailing that Thread which was why i have stopped long before then and that he should stop derailing the thread. He went on, including nony30 with his 2nd username name claiming how i banned him unjustly. Trac went on to paint me black that i banned nony30 simply because he opposed me, when in actual fact, nony30 insulted the yoruba tribe by calling them ofe'mmanu. I started to hid those their unwanted post in that thread. They kept on reposting the hidden thread (both Trac & Nony30 with his 2nd username). I had no option than to ban them since they have refused to stop derailing the thread. Both came back with their 2nd username to continue with the menace. Now, to be fair to everyone, i went back to the first page of the thread and started removing all post that had no business in that thread, including mine. Even the posts between Platinumricky and nony30, that they attacked each other with were removed. All the personal attacked posts between Trac and myself were removed. Those posts had no business with that topic. That thread was not opened to discuss 505 v6 vs 406 I4, and whether i know anything about cars or not, whether am bully or not. We have a complaint thread to state our grieviances against mod. You dont jump into a thread and stary causing trouble because you hate the Op of the thread. If you dont like a topic of a thread, click the next topic. There is a difference between having a different and derailing a thread with off topic posts. Some of the posts nony30 posted which related to the thread are still thread.

I have already gotten the permission to provide the forum rules in this section and make it sticky. And am sorry to say this, i will start implementing those rules from the first to the last. Its no longer my fault. This thread made it so.

Emperoh: Very useful and insightful.

Often times, our desire to make money clouds the need for sincerity and honesty.
As a dealer, priority will continue to be that i sell cars without issues thereafter and to the glory of God, this has been the case.

I think the idea will be to set up a list of Nairaland certified vehicle inspector in most cities where people buy and sell cars. So that if a buyer likes a car, he can contact of the certified inspector, pays a little token, say N5k if the deal doesn't fly and N15k if the deal flies to the inspector.

The risk with this is that assuming the inspector certifies all ok and payment is made and issues are discovered later, he loses his position. For Abuja based resident, I can nominate Ikenna, Chiebube and my humble self. For Lagos, any credible dealer or auto savvy person can indicate interest to handle. I can also appoint my partner who is also an inspector in Lagos to stand in.
Am not sure am comfortable with this your suggestion o! I have done it for people for free. But am begining to be discouraged, especially for Nigeria used cars. I once helped someone bought a Peugeot 406 D9 Nigeria used. Weeks later after the purchase, i crawed under the car to replace oxygen sensor for the fellow, only to realise that some wires were disconnected, folded and hidden directly under the engine/gearbox. At a point, the electrical abuse started to affect the BSI unit, such that it one time lock the engine ECU and stopped it from sending ground pulse to the injectors until it was unlock with PP2000. Since then, i stopped inspecting Nigerian used cars for people. Because no matter how good one is, some abuse or issues may be hidden , considering how Nigerian clowns love abusing EFI systems.

I didn't come out with my ATM card, but remembered I had N1,000 in my pocket.
It's not good to go out "cash-less", so I decided to purchase N500 worth of gas, and hold N500

So I pulled up in the nearest gas station with my black on black Altima and stretched out N500.

You should have seen the look the petrol attendant gave to me. She murmumed in Yoruba Languagel;
which translates to "Look at his big car, and he's buying fuel 500 Naira"

I was like WTF ?? shocked shocked shocked
