Expert17: E pain this one
Aribo kor Taribo ni Don’t mind them. Maguire that is 6ft 5 inches gets dominated every other game but nobody questions his height. I hate self-fulfilling prophesies that draw a conclusion first and then search for the evidence later. Boateng was 6ft 3 when Drogba murdered him aerially in a CL final. If it was Lisandro, they would have blamed his height as the reason he couldn’t prevent the goal. Quack football analysts rub me the wrong way. |

VVD bleeped up simple and short. He didn't even try to block the shot... In other words, nothing VVD could have done in that situation to prevent a goal - you just made my point. If he stood his ground - goal If he charges at Sancho - goal If he charges at Bruno - goal But he’s at fault? |

Expert17: True, Milner underrated Sancho's brilliance.
But if VVD had charged immediately Sancho made that cut, I am sure he would have intercepted or force him to make a wrong decision. Sancho would have probably dribbled VVD too plus Sancho had Bruno as another option. BTW, Where’s Raumdeuter? I am hearing Lisandro the midget hasn’t lost an aerial battle in the box in the PL this season. |

Expert17: Pundits? why was Milner furious? Milner is an idiöt. There was no reason to commit that much to a shot. Alisson would have saved from there. He should have trusted his goalie. If Milner stood his ground, Sancho would have been in trouble but his slide gave Sancho all the space in the world to cause further damage. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Illimitable: 5:15pm On Aug 23, 2022 |
Expert17: The reaction time of a goal keeper is less than 2 seconds, so Alisson still have a chance of saving any ball down the middle or to his right.
Sancho looked up
Changed his feet
Bruno was shouting and pointing.
Guess what, VVD was still at the same spot.
This is Sancho with just 3 goals in EPL, engage him. He might make a mistake. Sancho that had enough intelligence to do a chop in that situation? He’s a deceitful snake. That chop murdered Liverpool and VVD couldn’t have seen Alisson had been murdered behind him. VVD was trusting his keeper to be at alert. All VVD could do was hold his ground and put himself between the ball and the goal. Bruno was ONside and if he had closed down Sancho, Sancho would pass to Bruno and the situation would have been turned to “why did VVD vacate his position?” And as you can see, VVD wasn’t far off from blocking the shot. It was the right decision to hold his ground, Pundits just look for an individual to blame in situations like this when it was the entire defensive system at fault.

Expert17: The point is VVD didn't do enough. Sancho scoring or missing is another topic entirely.
He gave Sancho time (not engaging) and space. Alison will most likely save any shot to the middle, so he should have moved to the left more. Alisson had been murdered by the dummy. Look at Alisson still on the floor at the time Sancho had brought the ball back to his left foot.

Mrviktor: Which kind unfairly criticism..
Before sancho got the ball. VVD WAS AT THAT SAME SPOT. SANCHO MOVED. STOPPED D BALL. TUNED. STOPPED D BALL. VVD WAS STILL AT THE SAME SPOT. BEFORE HE PLAYED IT INTO THE NET.
IF HE HAD TAKEN ONE STEP FORWARD HE WOULD HAVE BLOCKED D GOAL...
THAT'S WHY MILNER WAS ANGRY..
HE DIDN'T MOVE ONE INCH You forgot the most important detail. Sancho looked up to assess the situation before taking the shot. If VVD had made any movement towards Sancho, Sancho would have passed to Bruno for an easy tap into an empty net. Just because you are looking from a TV screen, you thought the space can be closed down by moving forward. The space between them was huge(about 7 yards).

Expert17: Nope, he should have engaged Sancho or stay at the blue spot below. If he stayed at the blue mark, Sancho is good enough to put the shot between the space between VVD & Alisson. Their entire defensive structure collapsed when Trent allowed Elanga to make that cross. Anything else is just passing the blame. There’s nothing VVD could have done to prevent that goal unless Sancho skied the shot over the bar by being a useless player. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Illimitable: 4:49pm On Aug 23, 2022 |
MRTA7: VVD is being rightly criticised because he doesnt like to engage the attacker. He needed to step forward to Sancho there to block the shot or atleast narrow the angle. But that is his style, he's a very passive defender because he plays in an era where you dont usually face a dominant number 9. He's still a great player and a great defender but he's definitely been exposed for his style. Did you see the gap between VVD and Sancho? What is he going to engage? That Sancho chop murdered Liverpool’s defence structure. Even the ever reliable Alisson dived without seeing a shot taken. Whatever decision VVD took, Liverpool would still have conceded. Bruno was well positioned to receive and score and Sancho was also in a great position to score. This idea of blaming one individual for a goal caused by a system breakdown is unfair. ChristoBam: Bet you wished the goal was offside. God saved Ten Hag's ass yesterday. But he was ready to risk the dragging just to play that way he wants. Even the biggest Ronaldo fans know that game wasn't for Ronaldo. Except na delusion. That game was the exact type of game for Ronaldo. Rashford did nothing. He hardly pressed, he hardly tracked back and he missed good chances in the first half after being put through. I didn’t see anything special from the front 3 that Ronaldo couldn’t have done or more. |

Karleb: Watch the goal again.
The goal was perfectly executed. There was no way they were going to recover from that dribble. Allison had already dived to the other side only to rise and dive again. Even VVD directly in front of his was there posing. Poor Milner. Van Dijk is being unfairly criticized. The entire Liverpool structure had fallen apart when Trent allowed Elanga to run behind and put the cross. VVD was literally caught between standing his ground to block the shot or charging towards Sancho. He didn’t know Alisson had dived behind him and if he had charged at Sancho, Sancho would have passed to Bruno to tap into the empty net.

nitrogen: Ronaldo would have gone to the ground, of course, he is 38 years, so it’s quite understandable. But the pass to Rashford, Ronaldo would have done it conveniently and even faster. I though Martial was a bit slow with the pass. If we started Ronaldo yesterday, he would have scored a hat-trick. Rashford was hopeless until the goal. I didn’t see him press anyone and he was put through on goal and couldn’t get past Van Dijk twice. The Elanga chance was another incident Ronaldo would have scored with his two eyes closed. Liverpool took too many risks yesterday with their high line that United didn’t punish them for. Even the Rashford goal was a bit fortuitous. Last year, that move would have been adjudged offside but Liverpool asked for tolerance level(which was added to VAR offside) last year summer.

There are a couple of goalkeepers United should be watching. Diogo Costa of Porto looks very good. He’s like the baby Ederson. I like Maximiano too. I don’t know what he was doing there but that’s poor judgement from him. As the last man, you don’t want to dally too much while in possession. If there’s no player to receive the ball, just hoof it out of touch and shout at the team mates. If he comes to United, he has to be aware that the tempo in the PL is even faster than La Liga. |

And he is the first player playing for an English side to provide an assist in 6 consecutive games. Bruno was very very good when he first joined the PL. I cannot think of any January signing that hit the ground running like Bruno. He won 4 player of the month awards in 2020.

Anyway, Maguire is a pretty good player. He's won player of the season at Sheffield, Hull, and Leicester. He's good with the ball, good in the air, commands his box, and tackles well. You'll still see ETH use him as first choice CB.
He isn't worth £80m though, cos he's prone to stupid mistakes, but not bad. I don’t know what’s funnier between you defending Maguire or thinking a player of the season at Sheffield, Hull and Leicester is good enough for Man Utd. Maguire has 4 relegations in his CV. He’s dog-shit. |

If his name was De Bruynaldo playing for Real Madrid, he would probably have won the Balon dor at least twice.
I repeat - I think he has to be a strong contender for the most underated player of his generation. The only thing KDB has over Bruno is consistency and it’s easy to be consistent in a side as good as Man City. KDB’s team mates, KDB’s manager, etc are all top of the shelf athletes. They know when he’s on the ball, he expects them to time their runs intelligently to receive. At United, Bruno is essentially playing with Ronaldo and 9 zombies. Rashford wouldn’t have made that run Ronaldo made to connect with the Bruno pass. And without that run, you would have criticized Bruno for passing into a box without any United player and then conclude he was wasteful. |

melodyogonna: Who scouted Maguire? Ole is a manager not a scout. We had defensive issues before he came, Lindelof was our only ball playing defender that could stay fit. Who negotiated the transfer? Again Ole is a manager not a negotiator. He would only give the green light to try and sign Maguire as he fits into what the team needed at the time. Y'all talking about Maguire like he wasn't bossing it at Leicester and didn't win their player of the season before we signed him. Woodward and the people he appointed are responsible for scouting players and negotiating for it, and they have done a really bad job at it ... Which is why they're receiving all the anger they're currently getting. Their incompetence was second to none. Hadn't we already spent like £900m+ before Ole came with nothing to show for it? Why did Ole(who raved and ranted about modern attacking football) play Maguire in a high line defensive system knowing fully well Maguire does not have the pace to recover from a turnover? Maguire was bossing it at Leicester but that was Leicester who preferred the low block system to compensate for the lack of pace of Evans/Maguire. Ole wants to play like Liverpool or City with a centre half that has zero pace? |

Infact, I will argue that the best in EPL then in his position, so it's normal he was compared to KDB. You can flog Bruno for not doing it as consistently as KDB(that’s a valid argument) but to say Bruno cannot attempt this kind of pass or doesn’t have the talent to make such a pass is unfair. He’s very capable of it but do we even have the players that would make the run and not stray offside? Sometimes, the pass is as important as the recipient making the run and converting it. This was the Bruno pass to Ronaldo. It took 7 defenders out of the game completely. |

It's not like we had a marvelous thing going on and they sacked a manager who was about to win the whole heaven and appointed Ole. Of course, he’s gone but the effect of his poor management is still there and they are taking a lot of time to erase. Maguire, Shaw and AWB are still at the club and it doesn’t seem they would leave anytime soon. Ole spent £130m on Maguire and AWB. Just think about that for a second. Close your eyes and think about how many world class defenders United could have gotten with that amount of money. hensben: Oh I see, it didn’t change the fact that English FA and ref were in SAF’s pocket then. Or maybe United were just too good under SAF, it looked like the referees were in SAF’s pocket. SAF won the CL unbeaten in 99 to complete a treble(the only treble from an English club in the history of football). He then won the CL unbeaten again in 2008 to complete a double. If SAF had British referees in the pocket, did he put European refs in his pocket too? It’s not two UCL trophies in 26 years. The first 5 years of SAF’s regime, there was no english club participating in Europe. Liverpool got all English clubs banned for 5 years.
