VVD is being rightly criticised because he doesnt like to engage the attacker. He needed to step forward to Sancho there to block the shot or atleast narrow the angle. But that is his style, he's a very passive defender because he plays in an era where you dont usually face a dominant number 9. He's still a great player and a great defender but he's definitely been exposed for his style.

Anyway, Maguire is a pretty good player. He's won player of the season at Sheffield, Hull, and Leicester. He's good with the ball, good in the air, commands his box, and tackles well.
You'll still see ETH use him as first choice CB.

Who scouted Maguire? Ole is a manager not a scout. We had defensive issues before he came, Lindelof was our only ball playing defender that could stay fit. Who negotiated the transfer? Again Ole is a manager not a negotiator. He would only give the green light to try and sign Maguire as he fits into what the team needed at the time. Y'all talking about Maguire like he wasn't bossing it at Leicester and didn't win their player of the season before we signed him.
Woodward and the people he appointed are responsible for scouting players and negotiating for it, and they have done a really bad job at it ...
