He was no longer in his formation years.
How does that matter?

Your point was Mourinho doesn’t like midget players but he was the one that bought Modric from Spurs.

Deco was another midget that prospered under Mourinho, same as Lassana Diara.

Mourinho is about work ethic and leaving blood on the pitch. If you can give him that, you would be loved by him. This is why he didn’t like Luke Shaw(the lazy slob).

We have to emphasize on "Mcfred" bro, the myth on this thread is we can't win without them and they give the team balance.
McFred is the best combo we have to avoid defeats. It’s factually true but it’s not enough to win you a trophy or title.

There would be more draws than wins but we don’t lose many games with those two in the midfield. They are tireless workers.

It’s too late for McFred. They have already developed their own habits and that isn’t going to ever change. You think this type of skill at a very young age when kids are taught to look both sides before crossing the road.

Get rid of McFred altogether and sign a player like Essien(Bissouma, Ndidi, etc). United also need to replace their full backs. At this level, Shaw and AWB do not pose enough threats on the flanks.

You made good points. But in my sincere accessement, we played the best football under Ole since Ferguson. I am not for or against anyone, but Moyes, LVG, Mourinho played very uninteresting football. The closest we got to what we used yo have came under Ole.

Moyes (the one I tagged PE teacher at the time) brought this zone thing that disintegrated our players. He marked zones for each player and wanted each one to man his zone and be runners. The fluidity and compact play ended. The players were getting old, so they could not cope.

LvG played the most boring football in history of club. Emphasis on completing passes rather than hurting the opponents. Every mistake in the PHILOSOPHY was noted in a diary during matches. So United had zillion of back passes, slow play and safe football. But he did play some scintillating football against the big teams with his 4-1-4-1 formation where Fellaini took long balls from defence and DDG on his chest, and Mata worked with Herrera on the right side. Fellaini was with Young on the right, and sometimes Di Maria in the mix. Rooney at the top. When it appeared sometimes that LVG has got a working formula, he soon tweak the formation and players position and we got hit. We conceded lots of late goals to lose to small teams.

Mourinho's case was that even when lined up against Kano Pillars, he would park the bus from first minute until we concede, then the players begin yo venture beyond the half line. If he went ahead, he brings in Fellaini in the 80th mimute as a 5th defender to secure the one goal lead. He was able to win Europa because he still had some old and experienced players. Bar his days at Porto, Moutinho flops with young players. He needs very experienced players to help with the discipline and tenacity to combat pressure when parking the bus to see out a slim win. He had Valencia, Young, Herrera, Smalling, Fellaini, Rooney who provided that for him.

Under Ole, we were less careful about being hurt and for once trying to be the predator. Lots of adventure play and coming from behind to win. If Ole has got what is required to play this way this season, is another question. But at this time last season, we were 13 points from 8 matches. We were also struggling.
This is why we don’t win. A manager has to adapt to the strength of his team. Mourinho had Valencia/Young(33 year old ex-wingers) as full backs and Jones/Smalling center pairing.

What kind of football would a sensible manager play with that low level of talent? Play like predators and lose in every game?

When Mourinho had the crème de la crème players in Madrid, did he park the bus? Did Mourinho’s Madrid not outscore Pep’s Barca consecutively in La Liga when they were both there?

Forget that one, what about his first Chelsea team in 2004/5, they notched 95 points. They were the most feared team in the history of the PL. They tore Wenger’s invincibles apart, beat SAF home and away, won 29 league games that year.

Fair point, I don't appreciate physical midfielders, I prefer technical and intelligent ones e.g KDB.
United don't have these types of midfielders that's why we struggle at times.
Xavi will be a great coach, his understanding of the game is magnificent, I learnt a lot from his coach's voice interview. How he broke down the possession concept is interesting. That's what we except from Amaka but baba go dey talk about DNA and passion.
The culture is different in England. Passionate players are preferred to technical players. Xavi spoke about this in 2011 when he said Scholes was the greatest midfielder he had seen play in 20 years.

Meanwhile, in England Scholes didn’t get the love players like Gerrard or Gareth Barry had. English fans want to see enthusiasm, chasing the ball like a headless chicken. If Xavi was English, he would never have made it out of any academy. Scouts would have considered him too weak to be a midfielder.

Xavi was a possession god and when you peep some of his stats, it’s like we didn’t appreciate him enough and we gave too much credits to Messi/Ronaldo. Xavi should have won about 6 ballon d’Ors based on his talent alone.

How is this possible? 100% accuracy shocked shocked shocked

I read that article, it was very interesting but I have my reservations sha. I want to see how Xavi would have perform in this age where pressing is more relevant. (High press). Against the likes of Liverpool or City let's see how scanning will help him.
Xavi would impregnate all of them. Look at the other names on the list who scan less frequently than Xavi, markers couldn’t touch them too.

KDB or Gundogan for example. They were running riots against the likes of Kante or Wijnaldum and they have less awareness than Xavi. Xavi is too crafty - small but mighty.

People thought midgets like him couldn’t run a midfield because of the size. The likes of Edmilson, Vieira, Van Bommel and other human mountains were preferred for combative football. Xavi changed that notion for ever with his high level appreciation of time and space.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Illimitable: 9:57am On Oct 18, 2021
My God, Xavi is the god of midfielders.

Of all players some research groups have filmed in the past 20+ years, Xavi Hernández is the one with the highest average scanning frequency in a full game (measured last 10 seconds before receiving the ball):

For those who don’t know, a scan was operationally defined as a player’s active head movement where the face (and hence, the eyes) is temporarily directed away from the ball, with the assumed intention of gathering information about teammates and/or opponents, to prepare for subsequently engaging with the ball.

Xavi’s head is always moving to check his environment before receiving the ball. No wonder United players were chasing shadows in 2009 CL final. We couldn’t get close to him. Fergie said it’s like he had eyes behind his head. If you think you have closed Xavi down, he just turns to the other direction he had scanned before receiving the ball and eludes his marker.

McFred in a million years can’t attain this level of awareness.

All the points you mentioned above, I also mentioned, but they kept shouting me down. However, Mourinho didn't deserve to remain because we were relegation bound before he left. The players he bought were also not playing well. The only plus then was Mctominay he promoted from the youth team and looked like Herrera 1.5
United were 6th when Mourinho was sacked and he was about to embark on the easiest run of fixtures.

Ole the messiah was brought in, players had something to prove so they won mostly all the games in that run of easy fixtures. Shortly after, they started losing in almost every game.

In short, Ole inherited United in 6th position and took them to a lofty height in the same 6th position. He crashed out of CL knock out stage(Mourinho qualified us from the group before the sack) and Ole also lost scandalously to Lampard’s Chelsea in the FA cup run.

If Mourinho deserved the sack, Ole should have been sacked immediately after the completion of 18/19 season. He didn’t improve on Jose’s worst season at United.

Rooney was finished at that time, Aguero was the best striker in the league.

Lol. Rashford just broke out from the feeders team, with no season worth of football yet, Sterling was already involved in a tense title race 2 seasons before and was a £50m marquee signing.

Silva was a world class Midfielder and a regular starting XI in La roja, whime Mata was a bench warmer, they were never in the same level.

Lol Schnerderlein that flopped at even everton that Tom davies was benching him, you are comparing with Fernandinho? One of the best DM EPL has seen.
Scheistwiger was finished.
Only DDG was ok
The revisionism to prop Pep as messiah never ceases to amuse me.

David De Gea was the only world class player at United when Mourinho arrived. The other quality players were either too old to perform or past their peak.

LVG qualified for CL, crashed out from the group to Europa like Ole……and still ended up eliminated in Europa.

Meanwhile, City were one goal away from reaching the CL final.

Mourinho and Pep inherited basically the same thing. It's the quality of coaching that made Mourinho finish behind Pep consistently
If this is true, how come City won the title in 13/14 and United finished 7th

If your statement is also true, how come United never finished above City between 2013/14 to 2015/16?

If your statement is also true, how come City reached semifinals of UCL in 15/16 season while United couldn’t even qualify from their group.

Your assertion that City and United had similar strength before the arrival of Pep/Mourinho is intellectually fraudulent.

City were miles above United in ability. The only reason they finished with same points in 15/16 was because City concentrated their resources in winning their CL that year and sacrificed their league games.

The fact that you can even compare Yaya Toure to Schneiderlin already tells me you don’t watch football.

So it’s the level of coaching that made Rooney/Schneiderlin relegate to Everton where they were summarily kicked out after Everton found out they were duds?

If City had sold Aguero and Toure before the arrival of Pep, would they have ended up at Everton?

Why do you people lie like this? Aguero at 34 ended up in Barcelona, Rooney at 32 ended up in Everton and MLS in the US - but it’s similar strength. cheesy grin

But they're even limited defensively especially Fred. Using your argument, they can't be DM then
They aren’t useless defensively.

Fred is the arguably best interceptor in the PL, the problem is the execution when he wins the ball. Fred has the best ideas but he has difficulty putting those ideas into reality.

McTominay is an excellent tackler too. He is mobile, deceptively quick and he doesn’t get bullied. However, he lacks the awareness required of a top midfielder. He has the worst eye scanning rate of any midfielder I have seen. He doesn’t know what is around him and that makes it difficult for him to sense danger before they arrive.

In summary, to be a top midfielder, you need to know how to intercept and how to tackle(last resort), always eye scan to know what is around you, know how to dribble, know how to pass, know how to shoot. In all the attributes I have listed, Fred is only excellent at one. McSauce is also only excellent at one - this is why they fall short and even their combined attributes still fall short of a top midfielder.

Neither of them can play a line breaking pass, ping through balls when opponents sit back, progress the ball(go on a mazy run), score regularly or assist. They are not excellent at any offensive attribute. This is why I said they are both useless offensively but at least offer a smidgen of quality defensively.

We have those two players who take turns to get forward. They don't both stay on the same line during play. We have one DM and one B2B. This doesn't count when the team is pinned back and almost everyone is back in our half like against Aston villa, where Bruno was playing long balls to Ronaldo.
They are both DMs because they are both limited offensively. It’s not really where they are positioned but what exactly they are offering.

Ole uses McFred to shield his back four. If a manager spends £180m in the defence, you wouldn’t expect them to be that heavily protected. However, Ole knows Maguire is hopeless so he protects him with his life.

He has started his agenda. Where did anyone blame Fred for yesterday? Fred rightly got abuse for his performance against Everton but he is not the reason for the defeat. No individual player is. The manager is where it starts right now.

Ole has done well to change things when he arrived but he has reached his ceiling. The longer he stays in the job the more we're writing off this season. This could be a really embarrassing week for the club.
He’s done nothing since he arrived, he was just given better players by his employers to mask his stupïdity. If Jose had this current squad, he would have won a title.

Ole has spent £180m on defenders and he’s made the defence worse. That is the most grating indictment in this whole saga. Just look at the way United build up attack from the back, Brighton do it better than us.

At least, Mourinho understood the weakness of his defenders when he was here. Against the top 8, he didn’t encourage passing from the back. It used to be a long kick from De Gea to Fellaini’s chest or Lukaku’s head and we went from there.

Ole knew none of his defenders is press-resistant but he wants to prove to be a modern manager by asking useless defenders like Maguire and Shaw to build from the back. Yesterday’s score line could have been 10 if not for De Gea.

Maguire kept getting robbed by Iheanacho near our own box. I cannot count the number of times there was a mishap because Ole insisted we have to build from the back. All these things stem from the foolishness of the manager.

And again, this was how Chelsea fans were doubting the players they had under Lampard. Werner, Ziyech, Rudiger, Alonso, etc were all pronounced not good enough by the media to mask the incompetence of Lampard.

The same thing is happening now. They are making it seem that the players are not good enough to protect Ole(who’s got plenty of friends in the media). Someone said Pogba cannot play CM. We see him do it with France, won trophies with them. He won trophies before Ole as a CM but suddenly Pogba can’t play as a CM?

Is it that Pogba can’t play CM or the manager is intellectual bankrupt? I would go for the latter. Opponents don’t even show any urgency when Wan-Bissaka is with the ball. They kind of know he’s useless with the ball. United have the best header of the ball in attack and he’s not scored a single headed goal from a cross.

I insist, Ole should be arrested after his sacking.

Just look at the energy and intensity Chelsea are playing with. Same with City or Liverpool. The passing is quick, the pressing is intense.

You watch Ole’s team and it looks like a match practice. It takes about 20 seconds to move the ball from the right channel to the left. You never see Ole come to the touch line to hurry the players up to play the ball quickly.

This is not on the players, it’s the manager. Quick passing hurts the opponents. Ole’s team is too slow to do any damage to the opponents until there’s an opportunity to counter attack. When the opponents have their shape, Ole’s team is too slow to break them down.

Another Paul Pogba motivational speech at half time against Spain. They were trailing 0-1 and Pogba stepped out once more to show his leadership quality as he did at half time during the World Cup final against Croatia.

He said - “We have to be aggressive! It starts from the front all the way to the back we win the ball back & we attack! And yes we’re going to run a lot because they have quality players but so do we. We have to keep the ball & hurt them. 2nd half we have to be aggressive.”

Some section of football fans actually hold this myth that Pogba performs for France only because of Kante but in the last 2 finals France won, Pogba emerged as a man of many talents without Kante on the pitch.

I want to also add that Pogba has won trophies under every manager he’s played for until the Norwegian fraud brought his unfortunate destiny to Man Utd. I think we can all agree now that Ole is the destiny destroyer.

If Ole has any common sense, he should be attempting to bring Tchouameni(£34m) to United in January to anchor the midfield but ever since he lost 1-6 to Mourinho’s Spurs, he’s become obsessed with McFred to protect the back four. Even if they sign Casemiro for Ole, he would still prefer McFred to avoid another scandalous defeat.

Useless manager!!!
