Nigeria is a developing country. . . .so you need to use some complex formula to come up with football age as against 'birth age'(article 419 of FIFA statues). . . . . .

I refer the young ones to re-visit the Almighty formula, incorporate pytha's theorem & come up with the base 8 of your result. . , . .therein lies his 'real age'. grin tongue

Liverpool is hosting this game ,hence the thread as correctly titled here should be Liverpool vs Arsenal and NOT the other way around.

Thanks. . . wink

Read my posts. I have always said of (among) the states, Lagos takes the highest of the VAT money. Of course the FGN is the big brother grin grin grin

Also, I take it you also agree that oil-producing states should use their oil to grow their economies, right?
Most definitely ! True federalism in my own opinion = 100% resource control.

You'll be surprised most Nigerians support this view anyway !
Politics › Re: Lagosians Groan Under Severe Tax Regime by illusion2: 7:37pm On Dec 11, 2009
Nchara:
Illussion2,
VAT money is not shared equally. Lagos generates more VAT money and also gets the highest, among the states. There was (or perhaps still on) a lawsuit in which Lagos wants to get all of the VAT that comes from the state (just like the oil-producing states are asking for 100% resources control) but the feds are kicking seriously. I am asking a friend who works in the fed min of finance to get me one month's VAT disbursement data. As soon as that is available, I will post it here. I had one before but lost it when my NL-dedicated laptop crashed due to NL's virus infection tongue tongue
I agree that Lagos does not get back the equivalent of the VAT money it generates, but so do the oil-producing states with respect to oil from their lands.
I admit you're almost correct on that score, the monthly allocation for Oct 2009 is here, except that the FG takes a huge chunk of the VAT before sharing tongue.

You can get the other allocation from the FMF website here.

But like you said, there isn't any need to share it in Abuja, since its largely a 'consumption' tax. . . .all states should be encouraged to grow their economies as well.

@Nchara,
The point is if a person does not like the taxes in Lagos, there are 49?? other states in Nigeria to try out. I live in the US, left Chicago for another state because of parking availability = parking tickets.
Again, please start a thread lauding the achievements of any of the Eastern/Southeastern state governors.
@ayinba1, We have 36 states(excl Abuja) in Nigeria not 50  tongue

Nchara:
People,
I am 1000s of kilometers away from Lagos and Nigeria. I have no personal business in Lagos and my only relation living there is a multi millionaire who can afford any taxes even much more than the indigenous Lagosians. These Yoruba fools in here ranting about should eschew tribalism.  My bills and taxes here in the US are far more than most Lagosians can pay but heck we are talking about Naija where salaries are tragically low, on the average.
@Nchara,
I think people will take you serious, the moment  you desist from all this ‘Igbo is the best’, Yoruba is bad nonsense. You claim to live abroad, I wonder why you can’t reason clearly without being beclouded by ethnic sentiments?

You have a right to hold  opinions on any issue, but please stop linking every problem in Nigeria to Ndigbo marginalization !

Now to the issue, VAT in case you don’t know is collected by the FG and shared equally among the states , after the FG has removed its own share according to the ‘revenue formula’. This is not only a disservice to the people of Lagos, but transverses  any common sense known to man.
You can argue whether the tax regime in Lagos is too high or unfair, but stop linking everything to ‘Yoruba’,’ndigbo’.

On the issue at hand ,I agree with the majority on this one- You don’t have to live in Lagos. We have all been used to inefficient & corrupt governments who care less about proper budgeting, income, expenditure etc hence the average Nigerian has been brought up not expecting much from govt and certainly not paying taxes.

Its high tome we all woke up to our civic responsibilities  by paying our taxes as well as demand from government their own part in the equation(good roads, hospitals, security etc).

I don't agree with this, I believe Ngog is a serious youngster coming up bloke is just 20 and not looking out of place, don't do a disservice to your club. Atimes its better to reverse and then gain momentum to move forwards. Arsene has shown the way with blooding players early and with Pool's financial condition you might be forced to toe that path too. I think you have a good number of exciting yountsters coming up, Insua and Spearing are actually not bad and Pacheco is also interesting.
while i don't think its appropriate to discuss Liverpool affairs with a non-Liverpool fan,I would like to take you up on this Ngog matter. . . , . can he really be compared with other up & coming 'youngsters (Wellbeck,Oberton,Ramsey, etc?) . . .leave story I beg,he's just okay nothing spectacular.

True talk. . . . . & the fact remains that its going to be really expensive for the club to remove him . . .he has incorporated a lot of Spanish backline staff as well as spanish players (Torres et al) who are all largely more loyal to rafa than the club.

I suspect this is the main reason,he's still in a job.

All the clubs you have mentioned, may not have won much but are in contention with their peers (Real,Inter,Chelsea,Juve etc)

The man has probably put in lasting damage on our great club. We don't have a good bench,no serious youngsters coming up & financially in dire straits. . . can it get any worse?  undecided

Eko o ni baje = Fashola. His absence = Eko ma baje and I don't think Lagosians are ready to go back to where they were a little over 2 years ago. I strongly believe they'll do anything to keep Fashola.
This is the critical point. . . . HOWEVER we should note that most Lagosians have always had a general apathy towards elections&politics, which is what the political jobbers take advantage of.

So. . . . .for this(your prediction) to happen people need to take their votes more seriously.

Politics › Re: The Big Fight: Tinubu’s Men Set To Battle Fashola by illusion2: 7:11am On Dec 08, 2009
felele:
Fashola needs to watch his back seriously.

Having served as Tinubu's Chief of Staff, and having saved his behind from going to jail on more than one occasion, he knows where "Asiwaju"'s bodies are buried, so to speak, and therefore has the upper hand in this battle.

If the constitution is amended in time for the 2011 elections to allow independent candidates to contest, Fashola, on his current trajectory, will win in Lagos State as an independent - hands down!

If not, he can always negotiate with his friend, Jimi Agbaje and his fellow DPA members, who want nothing more than to cut "Tinubu" (also known as Amoda Ogunlere) down to size, and also stop him from milking Lagos State altogether.

His Sins:

1. Raised a N50b bond for infrastructure in Lagos state and did a good job on Lagos Island. On the mainland, all the roads except the one in Yaba by PW are sorry excuses for construction jobs and will be found out within one rainy season. Where did the N50bn go?

2. Despite the N50bn, he apparently concessioned (read sold) Lekki-Epe expressway to a private consortium, one of whose members he has a serious stake in, namely the grossly incompetent Hi-Tech construction company. Their lack of expertise is an open wound on the Lekki-Epe expressway that users of that road are bearing right now and will bear for years to come unless the "concession" is revoked on grounds of non-performance.

3. There is an allegation, which refuses to go away, that he owns a controlling interest in Alpha Beta Consulting, a company fronted by a UK returnee, which earns around N2.1b in commissions every month from all Lagos State revenue, just for printing and issuing receipts!

4. In addition to selling the Lekki-Epe Expressway to himself, he has allocated thousands of hectares of the choicest lands in the Lekki axis to companies in which he has a substantial interest, or to himself and to his wife, who, incidentally is eyeing Ganiyu Solomon's senatorial seat.

5. He controls almost all the commissioners in Fashola's cabinet, with the unsalutary scenario of him having to clear decisions made at state executive council meetings. Commissioners like Banire and Abosede Francisco (considering the Physical Planning bill he sent to the house, in which he arrogated the power of life and death in Physical Planning in Lagos State to himself as commissioner) undermine the Governor at every opportunity and slow down the pace of development in the state to sabotage Fashola's efforts to drag us into the 21st century.

6. He planted a lot of politicians in strategic civil service positions, like Gbenga Ashafa, the Lands Perm. Sec., who is constantly undermining the governor by not paying compensations to villagers for land acquired for development, and constantly carries out controversial and dodgy acquisitions, which the Governor has found himself having to repudiate, because he knew nothing about them. For clarity's sake, the Land Use act vests the power to acquire and allocate land in the person of the Governor, and not a civil servant of any kind. But if Ashafa gets the go ahead from Tinubu, he assumes God has spoken, and acts without consulting the Governor. There are many more like him planted in the service.

However, one thing he doesn't seem to realise is that Fashola has support. That support is based entirely on Fashola's work so far. We can see the difference between someone who wants to feather his own nest, and someone who actually takes pride in his work. Fashola should harbour NO FEAR, because the voice of the people is the voice of God. Ignore Tinubu and his people, and actually start weeding them out, starting with the civil service infiltrators, and then moving on to the political appointees. If they were appointed by Tinubu, no matter how much loyalty they pledge to you, WEED THEM OUT. If not, they will wait for you to turn your back and knife you whenever Tinubu tells them to.

One area you can also cut them down to size is to get your own people in the House of Assembly to pass a bill returning Lagos state to 20 local governments, and carrying out elections into all of them immediately. You have people who are ready to back you with money and sweat ALL OVER LAGOS STATE, even in Ibeju-Lekki! Just say the word, and you'll be surprised. Supplant Tinubu's boys in the LGAs and hand back their land, advertising, market, parking and sanitation revenue to them, and you'll have your own machinery in place overnight, which Tinubu's people will not understand. You must start moving NOW!!

Eko o ni baje o.
