Kobojunkie: Actually, we are talking millions here. You don't for a second think people make millions. There are 10's of thousands of cooperatives across the country to help different groups get money from the banks as a group. Money to be shared and paid off by the members of the groups. If you want an idea of how it works, walk into Banks like UBA and first bank and ask for information on how the banks partner with cooperatives , market women, bricklayers, mechanics, transportation works( okada, bus drivers) etc debt Im referring to is lifestyle debt. . . . ,however don't be deceived by the SME reports of banks, last I heard they were disbusing less than 10% of amount set aside. . . |

Kobojunkie: Please tell me the above is a JOKE . Just cause we have don’t have a solid banking system like that obtained in the west does not mean people live DEBT-Free in Nigeria. I mean it was recently revealed that majority of your richest are serious debtors. The ordinary man cannot really obtain loans from banks but does anyway from friends and people in the community. We have the market women who borrow money and make monthly/weekly payments from their cooperatives, to parents who borrow money to send their kids to private schools etc. Unless one chooses to live in ignorance, one cannot claim credit is not a vital part of our individual economies even in NIgeria. how many people are we referring to here? 1000?? out of 150 million? give me a break. I agree lack of credit system definitely contributes to this, hence many peeps are used to 'cash & carry' |

Which slowpoke thought it a good idea to build 2 publicly-owned stadia across the road to each other? Similar morons have more than one world class stadia in madrid, liverpool, manchester,London(can't count). the problem in nigeria is with football administration not stadia . . . duh ! |

Yes. . . . we all know things aren't going very well for the motherland right now, however, somethings come naturally to us Nigerians ,which we need to acknowledge and appreciate. I list a few: 1. Fear of God :this is taken for granted by Nigerians ,but something most of the developed world has lost. 2. Respect for Elders/Parents: Nigerians naturally respect people older than them, this is usually strange to many non-nigerians/africans 3. Love of family : We generally get interested in family-siblings,cousins,half-brother etc. . . . most of the world's getting increasingly selfish & its cool we still have this 4. Abhorrence of debt : one thing that has helped many Nigerians especially abroad is our financial discipline/system,many were brought up having to pay cash for everything,so we tend not to live off credit i know we have a number of exceptions 5. Appreciation of poverty: while not being necessarily poor, many nigerians know/understand what it means to be poor and work against it & this is usually responsible for what most people see as 'aggressive/ambitious'. 6.Celebrating : who can celebrate more than Nigerians, even in the midst of problems Do you have anymore? No hating please |

Mcfeddy: Kidnappers have released the 78-year-old father of ex-Central Bank of Nigeria governor Charles Soludo 10 days after he was seized from his home, police said Thursday.
"Mr. Simeon Soludo was dropped on a road near his village last night," Anambra State police spokesman Emeka Chukwuemeka told AFP.
Chukwuemeka said Soludo, who was abducted by gunmen who invaded his compound in Isuofia on October 27, was released "unhurt".
Police could not immediately say if a ransom had been paid before he was freed by the kidnappers who had demanded 500 million naira (3.3 million dollars, 2.2 million euros) from the family.
Family sources blamed political opponents of Charles Soludo, the former CBN chief for the kidnapping.
Soludo, who left office in June, was last month controversially nominated candidate for the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) for upcoming state governorship elections. Aggrieved aspirants are contesting the nomination in the courts.
In 2006, unknown gunmen shot the father in the eye when his son was in the final stages of implementing sweeping reforms of Nigeria's troubled banking sector.
Kidnapping for ransom, which occurs frequently in Nigeria's southern oil hub, has recently spread across the vast west African country.
Most hostages are released unharmed after a few days or weeks, often when a ransom is paid, yet in some cases victims are killed.
In the first six months of this year, more than 500 people were abducted across the country, with 10 of them killed, according to the Police Affairs Minister Yakubu Lame Now you know why security's so bad in Nigeria |

The National Conscience Party (NCP) governorship candidate in Ogun State in the 2007 election, Lanre Banjo, has urged the EFCC not to stop at the conviction of Chief Bode George and others, for fraud, but to recover the stolen wealth. "His statement that when public office is abused, the entire populace is assaulted lifted Nigeria in the eyes of the world. It gave us hope. When he continued that this must not be condoned or treated with kid gloves, and if the quality of service in our public life is altered to the appreciable standard of the civilised world, the right deterrent should be given. This statement strikes the nerves of people with conscience and sends fear into the inner spines of looters," he said. Banjo denounced George’s supporters, who prevented photo-journalists from taking pictures and harassed prosecutors and reporters in the court premises. He urged the Lagos State House of Assembly to make a law that would make it unlawful for anyone to violate people’s rights within the court premises.
Yesterday, the Lagos State chapter of the Action Congress (AC) hailed the conviction of George and others. The party’s Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe said: "The conviction of Bode George is a welcome development and we believe that even as the sentence handed down to him was mild, it sends a positive signal to those who loot the treasury that someday, they will stand trial for their offences. We are happy that this character has been thrown to jail for his sundry role in looting the NPA and we salute the EFCC Chairman for effortlessly pulling this conviction through. We believe that there are many Bode Georges in the PDP and that the conviction of George will serve no useful purpose if other looters are not brought to justice. "We must note that there were frantic moves made by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo administration to shield George from justice. This rendered the work of the former leadership of the EFCC a huge joke as this desperate effort lasted. It also showed that the Obasanjo government was merely using anti-corruption as a ruse to promote his political interests. We hope the present government will not do same on the critical issue of fighting corruption’’. |
