Am seeing one word "quixotically" for the first time in my life and am over 30 years of age. The word quixotically means caught up in the romance of noble deeds and the pursuit of unreachable goals; idealistic without regard to practicality.
fair enough, the word 'Quixote' has its origins in the main character (Don Quixote) in the novel written by Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes ::The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha published  between 1606 -1615  (Spanish: El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha) .

The fact that a bank is called islamic bank of Britain doesnt mean the 10% or less muslims are forcing their faith on the 90% population and it will be interesting to note that the management of the bank has many non muslims in it and several employees are non muslims.
if they have it in teh UK. . . . .I have no probs becos 1. its not my country 2.They have enought strong institutions in place to protect everybody.

In Nigeria (my country ) however,a gov can declare whateva he wants arrest women for putting on trousers, watch as non-muslims are killed etc. . . .we don't have a proper system here.

Politics › Re: Its Official: Nigeria's 1st Direct Link To Alqaeda & Osama Bin Laden by illusion2(op): 9:05pm On Sep 03, 2009
Lagosboy:
What you quoted here is what everybody knows, Alqadeda pre 9/11 was not really allied with taliban as they were differen entities with different objectives however the common denominator was islam and sharia rule. Alqeda existed before the emergence of taliban and when they took over jabul they never really disturbed alqaeda. After 9/11 the taliban has been largely independent as it was. Also, Training in afghanistan does not imply training with taliban as there are different militant sects in afghanistan pre 9/11 and post 9/11. Ranging from the militants of sha masood to Gulubudeen hekmatyar. Alqaeda today according to CIA operates from the mountaneuos terrain and not from within afghanistan and there is little or no command and control of the taliban from alqaeda.
Point of note Bin laden was not kicked of Kabul as he was never resident there in the first place. He was in south of Afghanistan and alsto stayed in jalalabad. he escaped from tora bora mountains in that famous battle.
You will notice even BBC was very careful in mentioning links to alqaeda in the said article.
u are indeed well informed about the whereabouts of 'the most wanted man in the world' grin. While i won't argue too much on specifics,to sal Osama is not 'allied' with the taliban is being economical with the truth. Their larger aims & objectives are the same,to re-establish the Islamic caliphate in the world again -BY FORCE ! in addition u should know the Taliban (lead by Mullah Omar) & Alqaeda(lead by OBL) both came from the mujahadeen resistance against the Soviets occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s,so saying they are mutually exclusive is simply an error.

@poster
Allegedly training in afghanistan is not link to alqaeda in anyway and no where close to Bin laden pls modify your topic.

Secondly i dont believe this BBC news one bit as its source is from Nigeria police. A single man confessed to training in afgahanistan and was promised 50k dollars on return huh Before we all jump to conclusions lets think deeply and analyse the circumstancs surrounding such confession. You do not need to go to afghansitan to get training in bombs, while someone in the Nigeria Army or police bomb sqaud could well teach them.
Lagos bobo,i understand your interest in this, but incase u haven't been watching the news for the past few years-OSAMA BIN LADEN IS ALLIED WITH THE TALIBAN & was chased out of kabul  during the US invasion in Oct 2001(Operation Enduring Freedom) & is believed to be currently hiding in the mountain region btw Afghanistan & pakistan,so the topic is indeed topical  cheesy

Your not believing the story is another thing however,as u are perfectly entitled to your opinion.  wink

Lets reason together, which is easier is it to raise 25 billion and start a new bank with a fresh image or acquiring a bank with billions of dollars in liabilities and bad image. Islamic bank is against interest and buying a bank built on interst will be an oxymoron of some sort.

These banks are PLC remember and sanusi cannot just dash anyone th e banks which has board of directors. Sanusi sacked the management and not the owners or shareholders of the banks. Management are paid employees different from owners although an owner could also be in the management like oceanic and intercontinental.
lets reason together as well lagos boy,I personally dnt have any problem with I-banking wink ,d problem non-muslims have with this and 'sharia implementation' in a supposedly secular country like ours,is the promotion of one religion over the other. . . . . Everybody loves his religion & is protective of his/her beliefs. When we begin to throw our faith around in a supposedly non-religious environment. . . . THERE LIES THE PROBLEM.

in dubai, saudi etc,Islam is STATE RELIGION so no problems,u even have bank names like Islamic Bank etc. . . no one bothers becos we appreciate thats the religion officially here, but in a country like Nigeria, this'll just inflame tensions unnecessarily.

Islamic banking can't really survive side-by-side with normal banking, unless imposed by force.
Would you deposit your money in a bank that offers no interest when other banks offer interest?
If this is true. Its darn worrisome.

For one funny reason, I do not believe our police. I am sure they have tortured the poor soul into confessing. I think his evidence would start coming apart when he is questioned on the manner of training he received in the Afghan hills. My advice is independent agencies should question him, so he gives names, locations, equipment and sponsors. If not, its just a big pile of bulls*** out police is feeding the world.

For one, I do not think Boko Haram behaved like the typical terrorists. Their modus operandi was wacked. They were just some dumb fanatics that were allowed a leeway into the Nigerian polity because of some corrupt politicians in power.

My 2 cents.

Peace today!
Very well said. wink

its official ,a nigerian trained in Afghanistan:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8233980.stm

Nigerian 'trained in Afghanistan'
A member of the Nigerian Islamist sect behind a deadly uprising in July has confessed to receiving military training in Afghanistan, police say.

The member of the sect known locally as Boko Haram and Taliban said he was paid $500 to do the training and promised $35,000 (£22,000) on his return.

The uprising in northern Nigeria left some 700 people dead, mostly militants.

If confirmed it would be the first proven link between Islamists in the oil-rich country and Afghanistan.

Local people called the group Taliban because of its radical beliefs.

For years Western diplomats have feared an al-Qaeda sleeper cell might launch attacks on oil infrastructure in Nigeria, which is an increasingly large supplier to the US.

Weapons cache

The man, 23-year-old Abdulrasheed Abubakar, was paraded before journalists in the Borno state capital Maiduguri, where the sect was based and which saw the worst violence.

“ It was the mood of Mohammed Yusuf's teaching - the energy that helped me to join him ”
Abdulrasheed Abubakar

The police also displayed a large cache of weapons and bomb-making equipment recovered from suspected Boko Haram members recently arrested in the northern cities of Yola and Maiduguri.

The BBC's Bilkisu Babangida said Mr Abubakar appeared confident and not at all nervous in front of the journalists.

He explained that he had converted to Islam seven months ago and decided to join the sect after buying the teachings of Boko Haram leader Mohammed Yusuf on cassette.

"It was the mood of Mohammed Yusuf's teaching - the energy that helped me to join him," he told the BBC.

He met Yusuf two weeks after finding the sect in Maiduguri and was asked by the Boko Haram leader to go to Afghanistan, he said.

"I spent three months in Afghanistan. I was trained as a bomb specialist."

Mr Abubakar said he was supposed to train five people on his return, but when he did not receive his money he escaped.

He said that during the uprising in July, when Boko Haram militants, armed mainly with machetes, launched the simultaneous attacks on police stations in different parts of the north, he was in jail in Yola.

After the uprising had been suppressed, many beheaded bodies were found in the sect's headquarters, including at least three Christian preachers and the second in command of the military operation.

Hundreds of sect members were also killed as the security forces retaliated and controversy surrounds the death of Yusuf, who was shot after his arrest.

Police say Yusuf was killed in a shoot-out when he tried to escape, but human rights groups say it was a summary execution.

The sect said it was fighting against Western education and believed Nigeria's government was being corrupted by Western ideas.

It wanted to see Islamic law imposed across the country.
