debosky: I am not claiming forensic accuracy, my figures are indicative. Ok now debosky: The state is poor - per capita 'income' is a measure that is largely irrelevant to the lives of Bayelsa indigenes. They do not have schools, hospitals nor roads regardless of what the economic 'statistic' says. They have, maybe not enough. . . . . . debosky: Don't get yourself twisted into knots trying to split hairs - the import of my post is clear: Bayelsans are poor and not getting the type of benefits from their State Government as they should. Spending 20billion on a white elephant project is symptomatic of that. Nobody's getting twisted, most of what you're saying is common knowledge,we just need to be clear & more accurate on these issues. I already confirmed 'Gov Gloryland' is a mumu. . . . |
Politics › Re: CNN Ridicules Governor Sylva by illusion2: 9:32pm On Sep 14, 2009 |
debosky: How is it false? ND states collect 13% derivation - add to that statutory allocations and local government funds and you get a figure close to 30%. Debo ,your maths may not be entirely accurate |
Politics › Re: CNN Ridicules Governor Sylva by illusion2: 9:24pm On Sep 14, 2009 |
debosky: Poorest in terms of quality of life - low educational attainment, low medical penetration, lack of infrastructure and so much more - compared to any of the other ND states, it is clearly behind. These have to do with development. . .so they're arguably the LEAST DEVELOPED not poorest. Like someone posted earlier ,they have one of the highest per capita income(if not the highest) in Nigeria. . . .so the state isn't 'poor'. It may be a matter of semantics, but you need to make your points clearer |
Politics › Re: CNN Ridicules Governor Sylva by illusion2: 9:01pm On Sep 14, 2009 |
debosky: I CANNOT keep Sylva's issue to him - he is not a private individual, he is the governor of the poorest and least developed ND state who is spending ridiculous amounts on pointless projects instead of lifting his people out of poverty. He is as culpable as anyone else and very much a part of the ND problem by his actions. Poorest ,how? Please define, thanks |

maedan: Kessy was really trying to conceal her moody state, barely listening as Tiara went on and on about some guy she’d just met at the party. Kessy was busy thinking about Max and how much attention he seemed to be paying to some girl he’d been dancing a lot with all night. She’d been happy at the beginning, when that her stunt with Chima had got Max flying over to “rescue” her. She’d deliberately played along with her boyfriend, letting him get away with stuff she’d never have done in the past, just to get Max jealous. But she saw now that she had only managed to get him mad at her. She knew this, because he had been ignoring her ever since, and even when she’d swallowed her pride and gone over to him to ask if he’d seen his sister, he’d barely even spared her a decent reply, turning back to continue talking with the group of friends he’d been with. Well, so far her plan had failed. It had been a stupid plan anyway – make Max jealous, and force him into admitting he had feelings for her. But all she’d done was push him further away. He’s never going to like me, she figured, sighing inwardly. Not the way she wanted him to like her anyway. She jumped when Tiara suddenly nudged her. “Sorry, did you say something?” she asked with a guilty start. “Great! You’re not even listening!” her friend cried. “I asked if you think Raymond is cute.” “Oh that. You mean that tall guy you were dancing with? Yeah, he’s very cute. Must play basketball or something, with that height. Do you think you guys will get together?” Tiara sighed dreamily. “I wish. I never wanted to have a boyfriend before I get into uni, but he really is so nice. And gorgeous! He’s like my dream guy.” “If you end up going out with him, then that means I’ll be the only one without a boyfriend,” Itoro complained. Her friends laughed. “Itoro, guys need to take you seriously first, before they can date you. You really need to stop being such a clown, then you’d probably get a boyfriend,” Kessy said. “Thanks for the tip,” Itoro replied with a wry twist of her lips. They finally got back to the party, only to discover that Max had been looking all over for them. “There you are,” he said, grabbing his sister’s arm. “I was beginning to think you’d all been kidnapped. It’s getting close to your curfew, ladies, time to go.” They let out wails of dismay, but he only shook his head. “It’s late, we need to get home or dad will be mad. And remember I have to drop your friends home too.” Tiara broke out of his grip. “At least let me try and say goodnight to my friend, Raymond. Please, Max.” She was already looking around frantically for him with worried eyes. “Okay, but make it quick. We’ll be waiting for you downstairs. Five minutes, Tiara,” he warned, and began herding the other two girls out of the room. “What about me, don’t I get the chance to say goodbye to my boyfriend?” exclaimed Kessy. He sent her a cool look. “Sorry, Kessy, but I can’t please everyone. Not tonight.” They were at the car now, and he unlocked the door. It was a quiet, breezy night, and the other houses on the street were mostly dark. Kessy took a deep breath to calm herself, swallowing the retort that would have burst from her, before getting into the car with Itoro. “The party was fun, wasn’t it guys? It’s just funny we hardly got to see the so-called celebrant,” Itoro observed. “Yeah, he’s either really shy or really stuck-up,” Kessy murmured, looking in Max’s direction as she added, “Don’t you just hate stuck-up guys, Itoro?” “I don’t know any stuck-up guys. I don’t know any guys, period,” she giggled. “But I’d probably hate them, so yeah. Stuck-up guys are the pits.” Max was silent, busy fiddling with the car’s music player, sliding in a CD. Soon the car was filled with rap music, and Kessy groaned out loud. “Oh no! Max, could we please not have that on right now? My head is like splitting after all the excitement of tonight.” “Oh yeah, sorry,” he said, and off it went. She was surprised and pleased – she’d been so ready to pick a fight if he’d argued. Deflated and subdued, she glimpsed his face in the rear view mirror. He was smiling at her, like he knew what she’d been up to. Going on about “stuck-up guys”. She felt stupid now, because that was the last thing Max was. She respected and adored him so much, and regretted making an ass of herself that night. She just hoped he wouldn’t think ill of her, and that things would just go back to normal. She liked that much better than being on his bad side. Tiara appeared just then, apologetic yet beaming. She’d found Raymond, who had been totally devastated that she was leaving. They’d exchanged numbers though, and he’d promised to call her soon. Her heart was singing when Max finally started the car and drove them home. Cool. . . . . . . . .my suggestions are essentially aesthetic. . . . . some spacing, mixing up of fonts & colours would certainly enhace its visual appeal |

GettysBurg: Gulf Muslims feel like the most superior muslims and look down on all other Arab Muslims. All other Arab muslims look down on African muslims. Now, Northern Muslims have little regard for their Southern brethren. All this discrimination sef! Almost correct, except Gulf Muslims are also divided between Sunni & Shi'a. . . . . . and Saudi muslims generally top the entire pile ,followed by the other Gulf muslims(Kuwaiti,Qatari,Omani,Emirati & Bahraini -in no particular order). Which makes one come to the obvious conclusion that there is indeed a cultural aspect to religion. . . . . . . tho we try to deny it |

mbulela: forget NEPA, forget bad roads even forget Armed robbery at night. These kind of scenarios are the reasons why some people are unwilling to return to Nigeria. By the time you go through these process twice or thrice, you will be lucky to still have your sanity intact. it will happen again because the traffic laws are imaginary and secondly you can be robbed and even maimed in the name of traffic officials. another similar scenario is the one where you are robbed in broad day light by a robber pretending to hawk goods in traffic or sell Gala. the state of lawlessness and a lack of security in some cities in Nigeria is nerve wrecking. You got it bro. To the OP,the reason the fines are so outrageous is because you're expected to 'negotiate' & 'settle' , NOT pay the fines. Na oyinbo peeps like you go de follow due process But I'm really sorry about this,I have countless experiences like this from Local govt,LASTMA & FERMA in Lagos,at one time I had to lie that I was rushing to get money for my 'wife' who was delivering a baby before they let me go after settling of course,it boils down to the general lawlessness in our country. . . sad.really sad |

Nairaland & its unique personalities. . . . . . . (italics, purple& bold text et al ) Oustrip(mama ibeji ) has said it all: Outstrip: I am sorry but the man is an ASS. How can you call your own son stupid when it is clear that the child is suffering. A 4 year old child understands stupid and understands when someone does not love them. Don't have time to feel sorry for your husband. He is making that child's life a living hell. Focus on your child and get any help or assistance you can get. He can actually live a normal life if your husbands mental and emotional abuse does not do him in. This is how people use culture to excuse their wickedness. |
