@tpaine, "widely known" as huxley. How body now. It's understandable that you'll rather be huxley than tpaine. At least, given the account of the way Thomas Paine departed from the world, you know? I feel you. About your question, I know it will be a bad idea that the Bible be reduced to Luke10v30-37. Revelation22v19 says 'And if ANY MAN shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part OUT OF THE BOOK OF LIFE, and out of THE HOLY CITY, and from the things which are written in this book.'. Secondly, the passage will lose its import as the paragraph actually begins from Luke 10v25. The morals of the passage are for those interested in eternal life. The love for the Lord thy God with ALL precedes love for thy neighbour. I'm sure you understand. |
May 17 Proverbs 17v26 26. Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity. Life is class and class is life. It is difference that gives life colour. Everything in life is classed: we have living and non-living things. The classes are further divided into sub-class. Stones have class, all stones are not the same. Plants have class, animals have class, and human beings have class. Thats the way the Universe is. The beauty for us is that, only humans have shown the ABILITY to choose or leave their classes for another. Some reactively complain of their class or even of being classed. More proactive people work towards a better class. Believers need to realise that all humans are classed, even by God! You could choose to leave your class anyway i.e backslide or repent. Some people are classed as JUST . Contrary to the popular rattling, everybody is not a sinner. Some people are princes. Royal blood. You don't treat them the same way as others for equity (for the case of being equal or 'fair'). Members of the body of Christ are special and should be regarded as privileged people, wherever you might meet them. There's was high price paid for the grace in them. To punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity. Pure wisdom. |
The passage in quote^ is not a frivolous one. Actually, if you follow it, its talking about judgement. If you go from Isaiah3 for instance, you might understand the context more. It starts before v13 but permit me to start there. The verse talks about God standing to judge the people. It continues with a promise of judgement for the old, the popular, the fashionable, everyone. Verse25 says men shall fall by the sword, mighty in the war. There'll be lamentation and mourning. It is this desolation that makes the women so desperate in 4v1 in that day. It's not a time to be found on the desolate side of the divide. Its a time to be found pure and holy. I hope that helps a little. |
May 15 Psalm15 v 1 1. Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? Today's passage is a sobering and intelligent question to ask, don't you think? King David was an intelligent person. He was special. Many know so little about David. Some just know David killed Goliath. Some can add that he fled from Saul, and danced, that's all. But King David was special, the only king who was also a prophet apart from our Lord Jesus Christ of course. Now that's special. David looked ahead. He saw that there were criteria for abiding in God's tabernacle and holy hill. He saw that it wasn't just for everybody. He wanted to know if he could be there! And its good to know if you'll be there. He got the answers from God. From the answers, you'll see that Heaven is not for everybody. It's a special place prepared for special people. The good news is, we can all be part of this special people. All you need to do is; - Ask for what it takes from God, and from His Word, and from HOLY men of God. - Seek to be there, look for it, buy it and don't sell. - Knock UNTIL it is opened, don't give in to excuses and opposing doctrine that say 'you can't be there'. Heaven can be yours also. |
@oluwdashmi I'm sorry ma. Sometimes, we just answer/reply this people to answer others and to give them a chance to know. once again, your point is noted ma. |
@pilgrim.1 It's been a blessed day, thank you. @kunleOshob and co. just to add a little to your questions. Is Malachi3 part of the law or part of the prophets? Don't give an hasty reply! |
Amplified Kunle. So you do read the amplified Bible! I suggest that you henceforth use the amplified Bible anytime you read Hebrews 7, for an amplified understanding. N.B: I've not said anything for or against your interpretation of the text. |
Another not well thought out huxleypedia definition of things. I don't know why atheists don't think for themselves, especially when another atheist talks. They'll rather copy, paste and share the mostly deluded views of fellow atheists without batting an eyelid. It's sheer hypocrisy to practice what you condemn and ridicule others about. To sacrifice is simply, to willingly stop having something or stop doing something you want or like in order to get something else. If a parent does away with expensive luxuries for a time to help the child's education, that's sacrifice. Luxuries will come later but the sacrifice made cannot be denied. If someone takes time out of his usual schedule to help a friend in need, stay with a loved one, that's sacrifice. Its not compulsory to lose a limb before you sacrifice. Jesus Christ left His glory, his position, his kingdom in heaven to come to earth, and to die for you and me. He came to pay the price for our sins. The price for sin is death. The soul that sins shall die. That death is seperation from God. For one who has being eternally in union with the Father God, to be seperate from God, so that man who knows little or nothing about union with God will be forever united with God, that's sacrifice. Every other thing on the cross of calvary was said. This was cried with a loud voice, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Never was there such agony felt. It's humanly indescribable. It was because of the sins of the whole world, your sins and my sins. He came to take our sins away. He was made a little lower than the angels (de-de-demoted), that he by the grace of God should taste death for EVERY MAN. He sacrificed for you. He carried your sins so that you do not have to carry them again. All you need to do is allow him to carry them. Allow Him to pay in your stead. It takes accepting him as payment and believing in His Lordship. |
Kunle, I didn't know that you now have your own version of the Bible o. Abi you be eye-witness among the multitude that was addressed yonder day? |
I wonder why someone who has probably not even contributed a word out of 7 long pages, just come, quote and pass a gibberish comment. You barely read what you quoted. @pilgrim.1 thank you, and amen to the prayers. @kunle it seems kunle knows more about the law now than Jesus or Moses. He's made tithe an INTEGRAL part of the law. Don't get confused with that word 'commandment'. Commandment and law are words that can be used interchangeably. It behoves you to get the context in which it is used. To be sure, it is this same commandment that was referred to as law in verse 19. The writer was explaining, talking about the same thing. The commandment going before was weak, the commandment made nothing perfect. The law going before was weak, the law made nothing perfect. You can interchange it in different permutations and it still means the same thing, because you know the context. What was the commandment going before? If you follow through from the beginning of chapter7, even before the chapter, the commandment went before the word of the oath i.e Psalm110v4. The commandment, the law, the levitical priesthood was given before Psalm110, a Psalm of David. Thats what Hebrews7verse 11 is saying. That if everything about the levitical laws were perfect, why was there a need for another priest to come after the order of Melchisedek and not after Aaron. Verse 16 affirms that this priest Jesus is not made after the law . He describes the law as the law of a carnal commandment/law . After verse 16, he quotes the oath and then says in verse 18 there is a disannulling of the commandment going before the oath. Its the same commandment he was talking about in verse11. It is the ceremonial law that made nothing perfect. Thats the comparison made all through, the law and the better hope, the commandment and the word of oath, the levite and Jesus. Its a bigger picture than tithe. Don't get entangled by the letter. The letter kills. |
May 14 Proverbs 14v21 21. He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he. Here is the life of a christian displayed in the wisdom of God. Here are two (2) characteristics that immediately give you out. The characteristics of love and mercy. These are God's attributes, not the devil's. Children of God are to be like God, having the attributes of love and mercy. Anyone who hates his/her neighbour is committing sin i.e is a sinner. Yes! Thats what Today's passage says. Whatever post you might think you hold in the kingdom of God, if you hate ANYBODY, you're committing sin. Whosoever you hate, whether it's your in-law, your landlord, your coursemate/classmate, your leader(political, academic, spiritual etc), the person from another religion or denomination, your ex, your step- , he that despises his neighbour sinneth . Then he that shows mercy on the poor is blessed. There's usually something you have that others around you do not have. Its not always automatically money. If you have money or the things money can buy, show mercy to those who don't have it. If you have God's love, show it to those who don't have it. If you have God's life (the gospel), show it to the poor around you who do not have the gospel preached to them. They might be financially rich but spiritually poor. You have happiness, a smile, food, cloth, whatever you're rich in, have mercy on the poor, and you'll be blessed. |
You cannot profess to value Christ, Until you value Him above all. You cannot confess to know Him, Until you reflect His character before all. Christ doesn't just want to be PRESENT in you; He doesn't even want to be PROMINENT; He wants to be PRE-EMINENT; To be your Lord and your All-in-all. A life fully yielded to Christ is a life of blessed rest. Many great men have said many great things, But none except Christ could give this comforting assurance "Come unto me, and I will give you rest. @all kunle's sympathizers Please try to read up earlier posts before typing, it'll save nairaland some harddisk space. Most of your queries and comments have already being well addressed. @kunleOshob and pilgrim.1 You guys are one funny pair. Don't you know that when two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers most? Take heed that ye be not consumed one of another, biko and God give you wisdom. Kunle, I'll have expected by now that you'll not be talking about Hebrews7 to dissuade people from tithing. Its been explained before and pilgrim.1 has done a good job about it again. Truly, when you're too repetitive, you become 'unhealthily repetitive'. People are already sick. You keep talking about Abraham's tithe been a one-off. Even if it was a one-off, which the Bible doesn't say, does that make it irrelevant or unworthy of emulation? Can we say the birth, or crucifixion, or resurrection of Christ is also a 'one-off'? Also, you keep chipping in that tithe is an integral part of the law. Its either your meaning of integral is different, or you don't know what you're saying. It has been said before to you that Jesus said in Matthew23 that the weightier matters of the law are judgement, faith and mercy, not tithes. Except you know the law more than Jesus. Back to Hebrews, I'll just like to add that the law is a word with different meanings in scripture. Take 3 instances out of many more, the law could refer to the 5books of Moses, it could also refer to one of the two divisions of the old testament i.e the law and the prophets. Thirdly, it could refer to the whole old testament as law . The context usually shows the law being referred to. In what context, to what purpose, and to what theme was the book of Hebrews written? One needs to look at the big picture. How would a Jew react if he/she told about the law of tithes. It'll be strange 'cause there's nothing like that in the Bible. What could the epistle to the Hebrews be refering to as law . That word law appears about 14times in the book of Hebrews. In the context of the writer, what did he refer to as law in his epistle? It was largely the ceremonial laws, i.e those Levitical laws. Hebrews 7v5,11 and 12 are the first 3verses with the mention of law . The 3verses are talking about the Levitical laws, not some 'law of tithe'. Verse 16 makes reference to the same law as of carnal commandment, which is the law by which the levite priests were made but Christ's priesthood was by the power of an endless life. Verse 19,28,chapter8v4, chapter9v19,22 and chapter10v1,8 and 28 all refer to this same law . Its the levite law, Moses' law, the ceremonial law. In the 12verses above, its the same law that was referred to. That was the context in which the writer was talking, and all through the book of Hebrews, that's the point/theme driven at. Christ was better than the law and than any other. The remaining 2verses that mention law are Hebrews 8v10 and 10v16 where it talks about a different meaning of law. |

May 13 Psalm 13:6 6. I will sing unto the Lord, because He hath dealt bountifully with me. God wants you rejoicing always and our rejoicing should be in the Lord. It's not the sinners' joy but the saints' joy in the Lord. He wants us rejoicing even when things aren't what we expect. Many times, people have being led to believe that the christian's life is all a bed of roses. Unfortunately, its not. God has not said that we will not pass through the fires or the waters, but if we believe, He has guaranteed us of His presence. That's why we should rejoice always and evermore. And you know, when you have this attitude of rejoicing always, you get to sing more often because God has done and will do something good. He puts testimonies in your mouth. He deals kindly, bountifully with you. We're to praise God and sing unto the Lord at such a time. I don't think it's a time to throw a party, blasting all those 'strange music of babylon'. It's a time to sing unto the Lord . Let us testify of God's goodness. |
I'm heavily sorry for being inarticulate, huxley. Its because I went to a good, international, world class, quality, bush, standard schools. I'll take it on myself to improve. The God of atheists is my witness. i will improve. Please pardon me for I've not been available. Firstly, calling any biblical injunction immoral is an act which itself is immoral. You don't dictate right or wrong or accepted standard, only the judge can. God is judge of all. He's just got to be right. That's fact although you may feel uneasy with it. It is in this spirit that Luke12 begins. Jesus begins in verse 1 by warning against hypocrisy. He declares the whole truth, not just lying in the name of being politically/socially correct. He's talking about judgement, consequences. Thats life. There are consequences and there are rewards. Its only sincere to talk about the two. Many prefer the sweet talk about the rewards. Yes, there's time 4 those talk about love and joy, happiness, provision and peace. Jesus dealt with that when due, but there're consequences/ judgement/ punishment for wrong doing. Jesus was sincere to declare that without hypocrisy. Criminals, defaulters and offenders shouldn't be praised or promoted in a normal setting. They should be punished and that what Jesus says. Look at Luke12v1-3. it says reckoning/judgement day is coming. verse 5 says God will do the judgement and should be feared. verse 9 tells us about consequences for denying Jesus. verse 20 continues with certainty that there are consequences and rewards for the way we live on earth. There follows the challenge/exhortation to put more priority investment on Heaven and invest less on earthly pursuits. Then comes verses 42-44 which assures that there'll be reward for doing good.verses45-48 assures us that there're consequences for evil works/offences.The servant that beat the menservants and maidens will also be beaten with stripes. Thats what v45-48 says ko? You reap what you sow. Its that simple. Its not just a beating for nothing, its with purpose. Moaning about it would not change it mr. Criminals complain all the time like they shouldn't be punished. Don't fight for them. You do your part so as not to be punished or found an offender. Unsuccessful people complain about everything else but themselves. Look inside of you. See and acknowledge your faults and make your ways right. God loves you Huxley. |
@mazaje can you back up your claims biblically? Where does the Bible say christians should not go to hospitals or use drugs? |
Sad to hear about those cases above. The Word of God says my people perish for lack of knowledge . The will of God is not against medicine. Of course, God discourages us from putting our faith in anything, whether medicine, or money, or people. Our faith and trust should be on God, but we should make good use of all that have been provided for us legitimately. One noticeable thing about humans is that we love the easy way. Many people who say they're exercising faith are actually exercising fear. They'll rather not pay hospital bills, or take drugs, or have a medical operation. These things are hard or risky so they'll rather have a miracle. Many will not exercise their so called faith if hospital was free or if they had means to fly to some hospital with reputation for successful operations. Medicine is good and should be used without abuse. |

May 12 Romans 12:1 1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. The Holy Ghost, speaking through Paul the Apostle is Today begging us. He is pleading with the brethren, the christians. He is asking by the mercies of God.Is it not serious and sobering that the Lord is begging us in the name of God? It's like when you plead in pidgin and say 'I take God beg you'. I beseech you, brethren by God's mercies! What could God be begging for? What is the Spirit beseeching you for? That you present your bodies. The believers' body is the temple of God.We should all know and accept that. You are not your own. Many christians do not present their bodies to God,except maybe when they're sick. Their thought is that God looks and cares only about the inside, the spirit. They believe that they can do anything as they please with their bodies. But God is begging you today, present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.This is your reasonable service. It suggests then that a service or life that only presents the spirit to God is unreasonable. Present your bodies to God.You're bought with the precious price of Christ's blood.God cares about that body. |

May 11 Proverbs 11v17 17. The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. The endpoint is the end result. The final destination. Its like the most important part of it all.Infact,if there's no endpoint, the project is all void, vanity. The end-point is the goal. Many smart people try to get the end-point on time.End-point leads us and gives us some form of direction. Today's passage is an endpoint. The final result for the merciful and the cruel. The merciful is the godly while the cruel is the satanic. Each human falls into one of the two categories. Which one are you?Merciful or cruel?Godly or satanic? The end-point is revealed. If you're godly,it's for yourself. If you're cruel,it's for yourself. You know, some people are deliberately wicked and stubborn and cruel. They say "I'll show him." They think they're hurting their neighbour, parent, preacher. The cruel/foolish/ungodly is troubling himself. Sometimes, evangelism is going on and someone is saying/thinking 'they want me to change my church'. It is for yourself.Make the right decisions today. Its all for you. You. No one else. |
@huxley when I say take the Bible as a whole, its the exact opposite that you're doing. You're to understand in the light of all that has been said and done, don't just pick one verse and run, compare scripture with other parts of scripture. Like I've said, its a lot easier to do when you're born again. In most of your above questions including the main thread question, you've only picked those verses singularly as a sentence, and not collectively and contextually with the whole counsel of God.Work on that and lets see how it goes, but it'll be much easier if you gave your life to Christ. |
Man is created to be able to make decisions just like God makes decisions. There are godly decisions and there are ungodly decisions. Its abnormal to do things simply because you can do them,God's decisions are just/holy. You have the option to make godly decisions too. Knowing huxley, you might find it hard to fully understand the above so let me give you an example. You may have the potency/ability to walk a distance but you can decide to use a car or not go at all.you simply make a decision that you feel is best. It cost God the crucifixion of Jesus Christ to save the whole world. He's up for grabs. |
You'll either have to believe the Bible as a whole or you don't. If you just take one part, you're likely to be confused later,be you born again or against.just a little tip sha. When you read your Bible, you'll understand that Jesus doesn't need to be politically correct. He's not a politician, neither does he represent the UN. He's Lord of all, owner of heaven and earth. Also, that place is not only a parable but a prophecy. Its telling us what will happen at the end. Judgement is coming.God loves you too |
@recognise you're welcome brother.I enjoyed that word 'fellow lord'. They don't understand. @mazaje infidel.org?must be a reputable site to get 'correct' information for infidels. Stop dodging those great quotes posted by recognise. The point is not whether they were said on deathbeds or alivebeds, the issue is that they probably the greatest words that those people ever spoke given the fact that the fool has said that there is no God.wise up mazaje,we love you and God loves you better. |
May 10 Acts 10v2 2. A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always. The test results are not as important as the cut off mark. Have you ever heard that? Well, its true. Take for instance,in a final examination someone scored 49 out of 100,while his friends scored 70 and 92.He was initially sad until he heard that the pass mark/cut-off mark for the exams was 40.So they all passed and graduated together. His sorrow gave way to joy. In another instance, out of 400,someone scored 230 while his friend scored 190. The celebrations of Mr.230 were cut short when he heard that the cutoff/entry/pass mark was 250. Thats why whatever our scores may be in life today, lets also find out the cut-off mark. The centurion in our text obviously had a high score as the passage shows; A devout man(having a strong belief in religion), one that feared God think about that, and not only him, but with all his house, which gave MUCH alms to the people. This is a good man.He seems better than many people around us. and he prayed always.Note that it says to God.He prayed to God always. You know its almost enough to pray to anything/god always. That's pious, thats devoted, yet this man prayed TO GOD always. I believe this is an outstanding CV for a child, man, son, friend of God. BUT he was still below the cut-off mark.Peter was to tell him what he was really supposed to do.First things first. A first class CGPA in the final year of an higher institution with a fake O'level result is below cut-off.settle the O'level first. Are you above the cut off mark? What do you know to be the cut-off mark? |
You see, thats what happens when you lie.you have to tell another lie to cover up your previous blatant lie and then you'll tell another one and then another. Let me give you a chance to tell some truth, what were pastors and rev.s doing all over TPaine's deathbed? Don't feign unconcern pls. @mazaje you're on the internet, don't be so desperate. Thomas Paine lived during the period of the revival by George Whitefield and John Wesley.Paine was born on 29th January 1737.He died on June 8,1809. About 37 years later ,Thomas Edison was born on 11th February,1847. Edison died on 18th October 1931. Its an atheist miracle, how Edison was at Paine's deathbed. MAZAJE and colleagues, quit lying for the devil. Antiochus Epiphanes was a terrible personality who had no regard for God.Infact,he was touted to be the Antichrist. He tortured the Jews.Hear his experience. When the Jews rebelled against him,he was so angry that he vowed to make Jerusalem a common burial ground and was determined to march in with his soldiers immediately, but no sooner had he said his vows that he was struck with an incurable plague in his bowels. Worms bred so fast in his body that flakes of flesh dropped from him.The stench of his disease was such that no one could endure to be near him. When he could no longer endure his own smell,he said and I quote "It is meet to submit to God,and for man who is mortal not to set himself in competition with God." So he died miserably in a strange land on the mountains of Pacata near babylon.check your history friends. It pays to serve Jesus. |
