May 1 Galatians 1:4

4.Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

This Today's passage is ours.It is talking about us. Notice the words 'our' and 'us' in the verse.It is personal.It is not just for them but for US.It is for our life application.Jesus gave himself for OUR sins. Some people think that He only died for saints,others think he gave himself only for sinners, many think he gave himself only for the Jews or for the white man but thank God,He gave Himself for us,OUR sins. He suffered,he paid,he died that he might deliver us. .
You know,you should let the purpose of Jesus' first coming be fulfilled in you. He GAVE,that he might deliver US ,not just them but US.Not only venerated saints like St. Paul but US. He gave himself,that he might deliver US from THIS present evil world. Are you delivered from this PRESENT world,or you're entangled,not even knowing the difference between the world and US? Delivered from this world's decrees,desires,dressing,delights and dangers Or blinded(not seeing) by the god of this world. Deliverance from this world is the will of God,OUR Father. We need deliverance from this world.Deliverance is available through Jesus. Ask and you will receive.

I'm sometimes amazed at your poor understanding of even the little matters of scriptures,but then it goes to prove that you're spiritually blind and need to be led,or better still taken to Christ for Him to open your eyes and give you eternal life.The rulers of the age/the princes of the world are the people in authority,the people in government,the leaders.They were involved among others, in the crucifixion.They included the likes of Herod and Pilate(who represented the ruling Roman world empire) and the rulers of the Jews.

@~Lady~
please,I'm not saying it is wrong for a man to provide for his house.my question came up because some people said that the Bible says men ought to provide for their wives and children.My question is that what passage is that?I don't recollect seeing it.I've always thought both man and woman could provide o.you talk about love and care.I think the woman should also love and care for her house.cf Proverbs31v13-17,27,31. So I believe provision isn't solely the job of the man,neither is child training solely the job of the woman.they should be one,working together for the good of the house.

@kunle
well I was referencing the version of 1Timothy5v8 that you first quoted. It didn't have a he/she. The versions you quoted last have he and his,but you'll agree with me that many times in scripture,'he,man,him' is applied to everyone and a woman can't excuse herself and say God is only talking to men.cf 1Timothy5:24,Philippians4v5,Galatians6v7,8,1Corinthians10v12 etc. My question is still where?

Huxley,like I initially said,many things could have resulted in his death.people die everyday,christians and unbelievers.There's something more painful than death.Death for a child of God is a passage to eternal bliss.The sting of death is sin,only sinners are hopeless at death.Whether one dies after drinking coke/pepsi or after fasting isn't the big issue,the big issue is where will you go when you die?would you have been more at peace if he died doing something less spiritual,like stealing

Huxley,many things could have resulted to his death.people die everyday,has that ever occured to you?people have fasted for longer periods than he did i.e -<40days.There's no reason 2make issues out of it because he died while fasting.people die walking,eating,working,preparing 4 exams etc and sometimes,it may not be as a result of what they were presently doing. Anyway,it is appointed to men once to die,you just live a life that is worth it and if 'perhaps' there's an afterlife, you be prepared.

Aside weighty scriptural evidence already provided against the modern practice of a compulsory 10% remittance of ones income A.K.A tithing, I think those advocating for tithing should forever keep silent if they are unable to tell me what spiritual or financial advantage they have over me.

I know and have met people whom you could say are examples of dedicated tithers, yet I have not seen anything which is common to any human person which they also do not go through.

I once more advice Christians worldwide to ignore empty promises made to them as reward for tithing but rather lead a faithful and diligent life. We cannot all be wealthy tithe or no tithe but we can all be happy by reason of Gods love radiating from within us.

I have challenged these tithers to tell us those supernatural open heaven experiences they've had; well one or two of them did but these experiences are not what you'd call supernatural even though they are extraordinary. Extraordinary events and experiences happen everyday in the lives of several people all over the world; these people are not necessarily tithers.
We've told you one thing that we have over you,and I'm sure you very well remember.It is peace.You're restless,discontent and lacking peace.No peace,saith the Lord,for the wicked.And may I advice you to stop your anti-christ like question?You're not the first to ask a similar question.The rich and healthy sinner has asked us,what are you enjoying as a believer that I'm not?you're even having more trials than I do,he said.The one who attends church only on watchnight service has asked before,what is the big deal with you who went all through the year,I have a job/promotion while you the born again lost yours.The atheists has asked before in similar vein.Infact,some asked far back as Malachi,check out its tithe and offering connection.

Mal 3:11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
Mal 3:12  And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightful land, saith the LORD of hosts.
Mal 3:13  Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?
Mal 3:14  Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
Mal 3:15  And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
Mal 3:16  Then they that feared the LORD spoke often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
Mal 3:17  And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
Mal 3:18  Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

Please would you be kind to show us where tithing was practiced after the law?
where does after the law start for you?If I quoted,you'll again come up with excuses.Are we to delete Malachi3v10 from the Bible or why did you mention it with such ??

Hmm, people are still waging "Holy War" on this issue of whether to tithe or not (hope we don't get any suicide bombers ).

Whatever side of the fence you're on concerning this issue, let's know that it's not the most important thing about Christianity. Moreover everyone should have a right to do what they want with their hard-earned or (easily-stolen cash as the case may be ).

IMHO this is just one of such cases of "doubtful disputations" that Paul was talking about. Let's put this issue behind us already. As long as you're saved by the blood of the Lamb we're brothers. Let me give my 10% and you use yours however you like. JESUS is still LORD!!!
Thanks for the comment above.Its what I've been trying to say all DAYyy.Tithing is no big deal,its a little tiny,light matter in the law.It is not by force.But the antitithers are bent on making sure that there's no tither left on the surface of the earth again.They claim to be loosing people from bondage.They claim tithing to be a lie and an evil thing.I thank my God,I've not been here to say give your tithe for it is the road to God's blessings.All I've been here to say is that tithing is biblical.It was found practiced in the Bible,before the law,during the law and after.It wasn't condemned by Jesus or any of His apostles.It is a tenth of your increase whether the increase is animal or plant or spoil or as Jacob said all that God gives me.That's all we've been saying calmly and peacefully at our leisure.
Romans 14:1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
Rom 14:2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
Rom 14:3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

@Pastor AIO
I would have been fooled. The way it is preached from the pulpit you would think it were the only important thing about christianity. The way it is being defended you would think it were the cornerstone of christianity.
What pulpit exactly is that,that you guys claim to preach only about tithing every sunday? I don't know of any such,maybe I'm not as experienced in moving from church to church though.What way has tithing been defended on this thread? Stop being hypocritical.Majority of tithe payers have barely defended paying tithes,instead,they've just said tithing is good or asked you guys to stop confusing others.You guys hurriedly took that as a form of weakness claiming that tithe payers don't read their Bibles and that they were all a deluded fleeced bunch.That's why I decided to stand and be a light to you and some possibly weak believers who may believe your lies without fairly looking at the two sides first.

@Yeye77
I have no opinion on other people tithing, its ur money u can do whatever you choose with it. But i wonder why there are so many people starving and in Need and there are pastors with private jets, loads of care and massive houses! do tithes and collections pay for this?
Firstly pastors should not be starving or in need in the stead of the poor.Tithes,collections,offerings,vows,donations,launchings and co pay for all the loads of stuff that the flamboyant pastors use.Unfortunately,pharisseeaic people who revere tithes as big deal, only spot tithes as the source of the pastor's funds.They do not see the other major sources.Offerings which they readily agree to be more than a tenth do not get looked at.All they can see is the 'big/huge/almighty' tithe.

@KunleOshob
Thanx for your contribution, but let me correct an impression you have. those of us against the preaching of tithes are not against tithing in itself per se
Eee,tell this to the devil.he just might believe your tongue in cheek statement.

What would you say qualifies something to be under the law or not? Was it not given to the Isrealites as a law they were to obey under the Old covenant. Was it not part of the old covenant package. I would not be inclined to defend the practice under the new covenant just because Abraham and Jacob gave tithes before the law was given(something that happened once with each person as recorded).
If only you understand what it means to not be under the law,but under grace, then you'll not simply discard any and every single thing that appears from Exodus to John or wherever your 'law' starts and ends.I've once asked,Is "thou shall not tempt the Lord",or "thou shall love the Lord with all thy heart",or "thou shalt worship only the Lord thy God" and many other important scripture simply forgone conclusions because they seem to appear under the law?Also,as a christian,i don't think that the Bible has to record Abraham wanting to sacrifice his son or doing any other thing a thousand times before I learn from him and follow his example,even aside from being the "father of faith".

I believe this was what Abraham and Jacob did when they gave tithes, only as one-off occurences. I dont believe they instituted a practice. The regular practice of bringing 10% by obligation was instituted with the law of Moses. and New testament believers are no longer under that obligation.
Ever heard of WHATSOEVER were written aforetime been written for my learning OR ALL scripture is profitable for doctrine?WHy don't you just leave me alone to learn from and be indoctrinated by this patriachs.Also,so that you start repeating it less,there's nothing to suggest in the scriptures that their practices were one-offs.These were consistent and faithful people.They don't need to write it in every chapter and generation for you to know that Abraham and his people gave sacrifices,tithes and offerings,served God and performed circumcision among other things.
Genesis 18:19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
Gen 28:20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
Gen 28:21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
Gen 28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
I'm not sure if I need to add that Jacob's request was answered and that he kept his vow the many times that the Lord gave to him.

One other reason I am convinced that God does not require christians to obey the law of tithing is that I've often wondered, 'if it was such an important issue in the christian's stewardship of finances, how come Paul never mentioned it when he taught the churches he ministered to and wrote about giving'? His writing to the Corinthian christians on the grace of giving did not mention anything about percentages let alone tithing.
I don't know where the new covenant asks/advices us to give church money to other people.Why don't/didn't you give your school fees to the poor since you care so much for them,or steal like robin hood to help them?Or just simply give some part of the remaining 90% to this noble cause for the poor?I've said it before,I don't know about the law of tithing.Its not in my Bible,please can you quote this 'law of tithing' for me?I can't seem to find it in my Bible(s).Also,I've said before somewhere that I don't have access to all of apostle Paul's sermons ad letters.I don't see a reason why he should write to a people who gave more than 100% and who were forward in giving,an example and a boast to others on bounty.I don't see a reason why he should tell them to not forget to bring 10%.Its just not logical to me.These were people who had all things common,not stingy modern day christians whose talk is very cheap about giving and who find the littlest form of giving in the Bible as a yoke and a curse.

Psalms 21:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
Psa 21:2 Thou hast given him his heart's desire, and hast not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.
Psa 21:3 For thou preventest him with the blessings of goodness: thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head.

It pays to serve Jesus.To be a partaker of the divine nature.I urge you,if you're not right with God,please repent now and become right with Him.There is LIFE and joy in belonging to God.Today's passage is making reference to the Messiah,the King of kings.We Christians have been made to sit in heavenly places with Christ Jesus.We are joint heirs with Him.We can rejoice greatly.We can joy in the strenght of Jehovah.That is omnipotent strength and ability.We can have our heart's desire and the request of our lips.As a child of God,your request can and will be answered.Because, we are kings with the King of kings.We trust in God.We joy in God's strength.God wants to embarass you with blessings of goodness.You are going on the way,and He meets you and says "You're not going anywhere until you accept blessings of goodness". Praise God! I love you Lord.

Extra marital affair is not a good thing.You hould speak to your aunt about it.Unfortunately,many of us are afraid of failure or rejection,so we simply do not try and we dissuade others even more forcefully from trying.People change everyday.If we're just to imagine that every adult knows what is right and doesn't need to be told,how do we get things right?what if when you were in school,you just imagined that your parents knew what was right for you and then you did not bother telling them what you needed to be done?Looking the other side when you see things wrong anywhere(on the streets,in the bus,at home,inthe hostel) is a show of wickedness and weakness.Learn to correct others in love.Don't be selfish.You pick up courage and tell her respectfully and with aim/attitude to correct her not to insult her or blackmail/threaten her.Also watch,in case she's like that lady that wants to pour hot water.If there's no trial,there can't be success

Jesus Christ save us from this bickering!

'For tithers' & 'against tithers' REALLY hope to see y'all at the END with CHRIST.

That's the common hope, I hope.

Please let's work out our respective salvations, because finally it's not about whether or not you brought tithe or paid tithe o!

All ye CHRISTIANS (tithe bingers, payers and non-tithers alike), biko turn your attention to GOD!
Unfortunately,seeing us all at the end with Christ doesn't appear to be the common hope.Many of the anti-tithers consider tithers as great sinners,under yoke and serious curse of the law.Also they're very restless and have made a big deal out of the issue of tithes than can be imagined.

I suspect very strongly that he is either a tithe preaching pastor himself or he one way benefits from the filthy lucre named tithes. Most of his accomplice that used to debate this issue of tithes with me a year ago have now seen the light and are no longer in bondage, but image123 with all the overwhelming evidence against tithes is actually twisting scripture and sinfully adding to the bible to justify this evil. he most certainly must be a beneficiary of the filth.
May God not permit me to be led away with the error of the wicked.Amen. grin grin grin Where are the overwhelming evidences?Is it your vague reasoning in Malachi1-3 or Deuteronmy12,14 or Hebrews7.Which one have you not avoided my replies to by dancing around to some so called next point and then going some days later to quote the same scriptures to another new person.Your sins are already finding you out like a birthday garment.May God help you.Amen

why don't you continue with burnt ofrings since it preceded the law?
I think I've seen this question earlier,anyway,I'll take it.Like I've said,tithing was practiced bfore the law,therefore we can't quote scriptures that say that the law is no more in effect, and then class tithing as under the law.Removing the law doesn't remove tithes because they were not born the same day.I never suggested that we should do every thing that was done before the law.Someone might soon ask about building an ark.They've talked about no 12 already.We don't offer burnt offerings simply because our priest has offered it for us once and for all,so we've offered it technically.

Hebrews 10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Should a follower of Christ really say these quoted to anyone?These are KunleOshob's words to JJYOU.Kunle,this is terrible and its not your first.I've read worse from you.Even if I should drop my Bible and apply common sense to choose whether to 'give' tithe or not,I'll look at the anti-tithers ' corner and see the likes of KunleOshob,huxley and other atheists,many defiant sinners and some professing 'chritians' and then I'll look at the tithers corner and I see wonderful people,some that I may not even completely agree with their stands on some issues,but who are challenging examples.I see Charles Spurgeon and Smith Wigglesworth and John Wesley and Kenneth Hagin of Rhema,and David Cho and David Oyedepo of Living Faith and Chris Oyakhilome and William Kumuyi of Deeper Life, and Gbile Akanni and Enoch Adeboye of Redeemed church, and Olukoya of Mountain of Fire and they are all of tithe inspite of their seeming differences.Immediately,I should know who to follow just by common sense.And I'm wondering who is likely to be in front of these two lines,is it God or Satan?Then I join the right line.I will not be a foolish virgin.

A pre requisite to receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit is being born again.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Like the above passage says,you need to repent from your sins i'e turn away/abstain from your sins.this is only made possible by believing in the good news that Christ Jesus died to save you from these sins.To deliver you from sin and from the judgement of God coming.Repent and be baptised in water(another important thing) and you can receive the Holy ghost.
Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

When this Love comes,it makes your yoke easy and the commandment of God not grievous.It was that love that was reigning in the Psalmist.Although he wasn't living in the period of grace,the law of God was not grievous to him.He didn't feel under bondage,or suffering or under any weight or curse of the law.The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart.That is the love of God.Many times,if you do not have this love,you will reason away the Word,instruction,command,statute of God because you think it is not right.The statutes are right.It inconveniences you?,then you need the love of God shed on you.The commandment of the LORD is pure.If we could put that statement on top, and we under(below/into subjecton).The commandment is pure,the law is holy and I impure.,then we will be changed into the likeness of that law,holy and pure for God is holy.

Jacob's vow was conditional, He said If God does this, then i will do this, And if God doesn't i will not
I'm sure this is the Obatoro amplified version of the scriptures in english of course.

Hmm, that trash again! Tithing preceeded the law, I've also said that many things preceeded the law. Twelve also preceeded the law.
When Martin Luther started bringing out some truths from the bible, these truths were contrary to the doctrine of the church in his time, he was excommunicated. But today see what we have!
I don't know how some of you guys do not follow discussion,but just jump in and pick words.The purpose why we say that tithing is before the law is not because everything before the law is right/wrong but because tithing is not under the law.Removing the law doesn't remove tithes because they were not born the same day.
KunleOshob and his friends don't seem to know the meaning of peace.
1Timothy 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
Like I said,I'm not here to force you to pay your tithes or do any of God's demands.It is not by force.People who are not free from sin are rejoicing about being free from 'giving' tithe or offering.Well its your choice.But saying that tithing is wrong is in itself wrong.that's what I stand against.And I don't think that there's a need for you to view others as under bondage.

It beats me u know. . . . , .all d gospel we hear today are about financial freedom and posperity while relegating the fear and teachings of God. Above all, lack of love among the brethren who are called the body of Christ is the biggest weapon the enemy is using to wage war against the church.
Thats why we have gay christians,juju christians, robberchristians, clubbing and partying christians and so on.They think that once they have money(mammon),there's peace and all is well,while others are only doing the will of God in vain

God is still looking for the entire world to repent from their sins because Jesus has paid for sin at the Cross.
Nothing can change it. The bible predicted everything that is happening to the "church" right now.
You can pray.There can be a revival if we pray.Of course we need to believe it before even praying.Do you believe it?

2. Yes u are correct nothing can change it, its simplz as dat, any attempts at correction only ends up resulting in more heresy becus ultimately those attempts amount to trying to prevent fufillment of prophesy.
There's prophecy that some will be saved,can't the Nigerian believer(s) be among that few.Must we all go ahead to fulfill the love of many shall wax cold?We can be among those that repent and endure to the end.We need a prayer for spiritual revival.A prayer that starts from individuals and homes.A heartfelt,heaven rending ought always to pray prayer.With God,all things are possible.

@tqfs and friends

OMG!!!, this is definitely not in the bible. Why did you construct this? And why are so many bits of that passage missing?? It looks to me like you're only extracting the portions that can be sewn together to support your position. Now if you feel like piecing stuff together, consider a true fact that can be seen in Hebrews 7:
Who are all these funny hypocrites?If you had read your Bible with your eyes open,you'll have seen that Hebrews7v15 ends with a comma and if it is copied and pasted,the comma will not disappear.In the post you 'picked and chose' from,there were brief comments made after verses2, 4, 8 and 15.There was alsomsomething that I quoted from one of your mentors.He pasted verses 5, 11 ,12and 18. If you were a good judge,your accusations should have started from him.And in comes KunleOshob sauntering and typing hypocrisy all over.

Back to the original question: What spiritual blessings do you enjoy as a result of your obedience to tithe which non tithers like me and KunleOshob cannot enjoy?
@SirJohn
I'll choose not to fully answer your question,but let me give you one.
PEACE.I have peace that comes fromobeying God.Obviously even an onlooker can tell that anti-tithers are restless and,

@junijustin and co

The apostles once faced a dilenma about what laws gentile believers should or should not keep (that is, everyone who came to know Christ who is not a jew), notice the conclusion they came to from the passage in acts 15:5-29. Also notice that tithing was not in the list
see,you may continue to get it wrong if you don't pay attention.Look at what brought the passage that you discussed.Its a little different from your view
Act 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
Salvation is not about this almost inconsequential things.Circumcision is nothing.I could very well say tithe is no big deal.Jesus mentioned some weightier things in Matthew 23v23.We're not saying that tithing is a pre-requisite to being saved.Those Jews said circumcision was necessary for salvation.Its emboldened above.I'm not here to force anyone to pay tithes or any form of offering.Have not seen any tither on this thread forcing others to join him.Its not by force.Its only the anti tithers that have been so grieved and bent on stopping people from paying tithes.To me,tithing is a minority.I only try to 'shed more light' on questions regarding tithes from the Bible.I thank God that to some extent,its been irrefutable.Anti-tithers keep skipping to other lame excuses and picking my words.So please be reminded again,tithing is not saving you or anyone.I'm saved before I pay tithes,not after.And remember,tithing was before the law and therefore cannot be limited to the law.Please don't forget that again again again.

True. but they also acknowledged that other believers who did not have their jewish background were under no obligation to obey the laws of Moses as Acts 15 shows.
It's good that you know that that the underlined was typed in response to questions by some as to whether Jesus and the apostles paid tithes.
because the law of tithing is not binding on me and I'm not obeying such law.

Moreso, the issue here is not necessarily about giving. it is about the manipulation from christian leaders using scriptures on tithing that are taken out of context.

Malachi 3 is normally used to point out that not paying tithe attracts a curse from God. But Malachi chapter 1 makes a similar case about the right animal sacrifice. How come no one talks about that one?
I don't know where the Bible talks about this law of tithes that is so smooth on anti-tithers brains.Also,I'm not sure but I don't think that I have mentioned Malachi on this thread but if you want to see Malachi,its also in my Bible.

Under the new covenant you give not 'pay'. They are two different things. That is one of the reasons why 'tithing' is so incompatible with the 'operating system' of the new covenant believer. The only debt we owe and by implication, the only payment we are to make, is that of loving one another.
Sorry I lost my 'brighter grammar' textbook.I should have just said that I give tithes,maybe that would placate you.
