@op, your pastor did the right thing, and Jo is right. like i quoted on your sabbath thread, one man esteems a day than the other. It's not a big issue or matter of salvation or acceptance before God. mesef don't observe Christmas or Sabbath, but i have no qualms with any who does. infact, Christmas rice and card dey waste for house. i recall teaching some kids some lovely christmas carols recently too.

frosbel: LORD does not equal to GOD.

Angels, judges , senior officials etc were addressed as LORD in the bible.

In fact , in the UK we have a house of LORDs, these were the guys who invented the English language so they know what LORD means, otherwise they are also GODs , no ?

But when we say Jesus is LORD , we mean he is LORD of LORDs and KING of KINGs.

They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings--and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers." - Revelation 17:14
so Jesus is still Lord, thank God.
so is the Lord one?

Deep Sight: Now this is intellectual honesty!
What is intellectual honesty, anything that supports your notions? See for instance someone like "Boomark" the post above me, arguing against God being One! He says "How does ps110:1 show that our God is one?". If a 'Trinitarian' says God is Yahweh, him and his likes are likely to say God is not Yahweh, just for argument sake. i expect his noble dishonesty to edit his post though, whatever rocks ya boat. An intellectual should be intelligent enough to be stable in his thought process. If the Bible says the Lord our God is One, or One Lord as correctly rendered, then if you insist that there is only one God, by the same measure do insist that there is only one Lord, only one Saviour. This would ultimately make your ilk deny Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Jesus is Lord is in itself a statement of victory for the Trinity, because there is only one Lord, not two. There is only one Saviour, not two. It is only honesty that makes one to conclude that there is either an obvious mystery about the issue OR a obvious contradiction. It is dishonesty to sit on the fence on this, and be laying claims to what nobody said. i'd be a fool to consider that frosb and his cohorts would rationally discuss this post instead of giving a wave of hand comment since i discouraged him from letting copy and paste think for him.

seriallink: Come oh, who raised Jesus from the dead? If the answer is Jesus raised himself, then Jesus is God Almighty (Yahweh). But if Yahweh raised him from dead then they must be seperate entities!
The simple point of the Trinity is that God is in three persons, Blessed Trinity. Don't you know that nice hymn "Holy, Holy, Holy"? It's not the same person but Three persons. That God remains One is the mystery we're talking about. Succintly put, we can say that God raised Jesus Christ. Which of the persons in the Godhead, now that truly is not too clear. My answer is still God. Is it God the Father? Yes. Is it God the Son? i'll unpopularly say maybe. Is it God the Spirit? Yes. Consider these 4scriptures.
1. Act 13:30 But God raised him from the dead:
2. Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the deadwink
3. 1Pe 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
4. Joh 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Joh 2:21 But he spake of the temple of his body.

Was Jesus talking tongue in cheek when He said "In three days I will raise it up"? Should not He have said "In three days, God the Father will raise it up"?

How could God who cannot die, died for our sins? Wouldn't that mean that He actually never died but was playing trick on us? God doesn't lie, so, I guess there is absolutely no way He could have lied or pretended to have died for our sins when He is immortal!
This has been explained severally, i still expect it to be asked because you guys are not willing to learn. God became flesh, was manifest in flesh, humbled Himself and became a man so that He could die for our sins. There was no man found capable of an acceptable sacrifice, all man was/is corrupt, a spotless lamb was needed. Even the host of Heaven had given up on us, until God the Son, the Lion and the Lamb volunteered to die for us.
Eze 22:30 And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.
Rev 5:2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
Rev 5:3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
Rev 5:4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
Rev 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

He had to become flesh to die for us.
Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word WAS God.
Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Phi 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Phi 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
The Word WAS God, but for 33years He became us, He became OBEDIENT to death, for US. If you can't appreciate that fact and the bolded, well you are O.Y.O
Besides, If man had eaten from the tree of life he would have been immortal, which was why God expelled him from the garden of Eden - Genesis 3:22 .

My point is Jesus couldn't have been 100% man & 100% God at the same time, because God cannot die! Hence, Jesus was 100% man, a perfect man who overcame sin & died so as to reconcile man to God! My opinion ~
That my friend is the mystery. it's for instance like a teacher or lecturer undergoing a course. No doubt, He may be a government approved and employed Teacher or Lecturer. But while undergoing his training or course, He is the student, ye it does not remove the fact that He is still a Teacher/Lecturer. i'm severally tired of the dishonesty of people on this forum.

1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1Jo 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Because then, life would have no meaning. there'd be no regrets as Christianity taught me all that i know in discipline, confidence, integrity, healthy living and responsibility. death would be the common end with no reward or regret. Not all lies is sin. It means U are as wise as the dove as the bible portrayed. I once needed few hours to write a part time exam in my place of work, i know my production manager won't allow me since i was knew in the company, and learnt they dont allow pple run programmes there. I told him my father who died many years back have just been hit by a molue bus. Immediately he signed my gate pass, and went 4 the exam. She dat one na lie
what a question? even atheists in court can answer this one easily.

you have a mum whom you know is hypertensive and you are having problems at work. she calls you and says 'my son, hope all is well at work'? and you reply 'everything is fine ma'

i dont believe this example can be construed as a sin though it is a lie cos its definitely not the truth
There's never a reason to lie, and lies don't cure hypertension better than the truth. Ask God to give you wisdom in dealing with difficult issues, even every issue. As a personal suggestion, you can divert her attention, or defer the information, or simply do not pick the call then.

how about if you lied to save a soul (souls).... ask ursef
You can NEVER lie to save a soul. You cannot even save a soul, only Jesus can save. you may play your part truthfully and with integrity.

Apart from Abraham there are many more leading Bible figures who lied when in "tight" or not so tight circumstances:

* Jacob, who became Israel, lied to his father by pretending to be his brother Esau.
* David lied by pretending to be a mad man to save his life.
* Peter lied about knbowing Jesus to save himself from embarrasment

Etc etc.
All these figures could have died or been harmed inspite of their lies, and the Bible does not glorify or encourage their lies. Actually, their weaknesses are revealed to remind us that they were mere men like us, and we can achieve the righteousness, faith, and exploits that they achieved. It's a sorry case if their lies are what encourage you in all of their rich lifeS.

My kids!! They go to church.. They are not my biological kids though!! But I call them that anyways!! When I birth my own kids, they will also go to church.. Reason being that I think religion is important in the upbringing of a child.. It gives them sort of a higher purpose to pursue morality.. However, I will not f[u]ck up their minds with it.. I was born into a christian home to christian parents, My father later became a Pastor, Lived through many Sunday, Tuesdays and Thursday sermons, morning devotions, Night Vigils and House fellowships.. Became a born Again Christian at the age of 14, got baptised same year, carried, studied and preached the bible for over 4 years.. Backslided and just coasted along for a bit Stopped believing over 12 years ago!!
this one was even deeper life like frosbel. See the trend and how degenerate they have and are becoming. Ever learning and never able to come to the knowlegde of the truth. A shame to the church(local and universal) and to Christ, turning the little knowledge they garnered into lasciviousness, a sign post and strong warning to all who think that they stand to take heed lest they fall, fulfillers of negative prophecy that the love of many shall wax cold. thank God there are those that will endure till the end, and there are those being restored from sin and backsliding.

It's a question that I have always wondered and asked myself. Look at Rahab who lied when her towns people came to her house demanding the whereabouts of the spies. And she never told them that she had hidden them.
Rahab had no Bible. She was a blaady halot canaanite that would have perished with Jericho. Her actions of lying should not be emulated. It's not her lies that saved her or the spies. i believe God could still have saved the spies if He had to, He is the Giver of life. And their death or life will not have stopped Jericho walls from crashing down. If they had been found, perhaps they may be arrested until rescue came, or God may even hide them(i won't put it beyond Him).
Josh 2:9 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
This is the faith that saved her, it was not her lie but her faith that saved her.

Christians should walk and work in boldness and say the truth. the fear of God, not the fear of man, is the beginning of wisdom. It is NEVER wisdom for christians to lie in any situation.
Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Wisdom For Christians To Lie In Some Situations? by Image123(m): 11:53pm On Oct 04, 2012
Just adding,
It is NEVER wisdom for CHRISTIANS to lie in any situation. It is wrong, it is sin, it shows that the person is not walking in the Spirit but in the flesh, and it displeases God. Jesus is our example that we are to look at and try to be like/follow. All these giving examples of men that lied to justify lying is so wrong. God never approved of their lying. Now to some few cases raised that i feel i should add a thing or two about.

Lies are sins as christians say. Agreed.
But how come God BLESSED the mid wifes in exodus for lying to pharoah about why they couldn't kill the baby boys?

Couldn't God have found another way to save them?
And they were killed at the end anyway.
God did not bless them for lying, here is the passage.
Exo 1:17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
Exo 1:18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
Exo 1:19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
Exo 1:20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
Exo 1:21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
Exo 1:22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

The Bible says God blessed them because they feared God. Now secondly, it is very possible that the Hebrew women were not as the Egyptian women, but lively. But importantly though, God blessed them because they had the fear of God. the Bible says that the fear of God is to hate evil, it is the beginning of wisdom, and it prolongs days.

An assassin wants to kill your father and you know his mission, he then asks you where your father is Knowing you to be a "truthful" person he'll believe anything you tell him.
This argument and its types is emotional and not rational like haters of godliness usually want. Every sin's got its good reason too if we think hard enough. Like the drug pusher who does drug because he needs to help his family, and the halot who does that because she was hurt when young, and the assassin who does that because they killed his family in front of him, and on and on. what you should know is that your lie would not and cannot save your father from dying. He will die if he's going to die. Your lie might even put you and others in trouble instead.
2Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Nobody wan suffer, so they'd rather lie than live godly. They'd rather lie than be frowned on. they'd rather deny and betray Jesus and repent later. A religion of convenience, cafeteria christians they are.

Imagine your boss telling you to tell all his visitors he is not around while he is the office ? Will you go ahead to tell the truth ?

So critically at some point in life u have to lie to cover up the truth but it should not be an habit or ways of life.
If you showed and shined as a true christian to your boss, your boss would very likely not give you the duty to lie on his behalf. You want to keep your job and lose your soul. It's simply because you do not trust in God, or think that He can keep your job, or even promote you, or give you a better job. Where are the Shedracks and Abednegos, the true christians?
Christianity Etc › Re: Do You Think Jesus Is God? If Yes Then Answer These Questions by Image123(m): 10:59pm On Oct 04, 2012
frosbel: Jesus was 100% MAN from day 1. Hence he is referred to as the firstborn of creation, the begotten Son of GOD and was made like unto his brethren the Jews.

To deny that Jesus was 100% Man is antichrist. Only a 100% MAN would qualify for the work of atonement.

And if you heretically say that Jesus was not a Man and was God , I have 4 questions, not that I think you possess the courage to answer, but I will ask them anyway ;

1. Was Jesus the Son of GOD eternally begotten before his birth through Mary
2. If God is Spirit and Jesus is GOD , then Jesus is also Spirit, why then was it necessary for God's Spirit to overshadow Mary if Jesus who was GOD was Spirit ?
3. When Jesus died, we assume his MAN side died, what happened to his GOD side.
4. If Jesus was 100% MAN and 100% God , does this not defy logic ? An entity can only be made up of it's substance up to 100%. How come Jesus was 200%.
you are an insincere hypocrite. Nobody said Jesus was not a man at all. He was God who became flesh. He became us for 33years, but He is God forever more. Thy throne O God is forever and ever. See how you dodged all that, and decided to pick and choose on the less than one line that seems to help you in 'winning the argument'. you have issues frosb. Even god may not be able to help you here. {edited}
Christianity Etc › Re: Christians, Sins, And The Blood Of Jesus. by Image123(m): 10:56pm On Oct 04, 2012
And I'm sure this verse of scripture doesn't exist in his bible.

1John 1:8
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
Why? We should be thorough enough to read the letter to the end. Why stop at 'Dear Tgirl4real' without reading the body and conclusion of the letter. In this same epistle of John, it states more than TWICE in distinct phrases.

1Jo 3:6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
1Jo 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1Jo 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

The blood of Jesus is the best thing to happen to sinners since condoms.. Its always there for us sinners, has no limitations on the type of sin that it can cleanse, doesnt require any transfusion, is never contaminated with HIV or stuff like that and above all is infinite (never runs dry)..

So now, I can walk out of church all pure and holy by 12p.m on a sunday, Break 11 of the 10 commandments and be born again before 8 p.m same day!!

On our sins being visited on our children... THE BLOOD OF JESUS makes that shiit sound slow.. So lets say I f[u]ck around, grab a gun and kill off all the Yorubas on earth (which I guess is a sin)... Then I walk into church and go skinny dipping in a jacuzy filled with the blood of Jesus.. The bible says I am white as snow and should I drown in that Jacuzy, I'll be lounging in Heaven with my hommies Paul & Silas.. Now my Kids might be royally screwed because of my sins... BUT!! Then again, they also do have the blood of Jesus available for them as well... So they too can get clean and pass that sin on to the next generation..

MY ADVICE!! Better start hoarding as much blood of Jesus as you can fetch...
such a malnourished and misleading view and understanding of scriptures. Like Jesus said, Luk 7:31 And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?
Luk 7:32 They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

In the old testament, there was no grace. If you sinned, you were gone. You'd be stoned, killed. But in the new covenant/agreement, there is GRACE which allows the adulteress to be forgiven, and the thief to go to paradise. But a man bent on hating God would sneer on the two positions.
But 2Cor 6:1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.
Like all good things can be abused, many are failing of the grace of God, and many are turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, when they could have been transformed by the abundant and exceeding grace of God. Well, they say, everyday for the thief one day for the owner.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
Heb 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
Heb 10:28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
Heb 10:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
Heb 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. It's not a wise thing to do okija, it may seem like fun now, it wouldn't be then. Don't waste yourself like the typical nigeria who lives only for today and does not consider tomorrow.

If Jesus was
GOD, then why in Mark
12:29 did Jesus say, "Here,
O Israel: The Lord our
God is one Lord." The
words "our God" indicate
that Jesus had a higher
God over him, a stronger
God than him. Jesus didn't
say "Your God". He said
"our God" which includes
Jesus as the creation of
GOD.
This is simply a direct quote of a old testament Bible passage. Such intellectual dishonesty from these guys. So if for instance, i quote like "John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." The above 'reasoning will insist and conclude that i'm talking about myself.

Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Mar 12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
Mar 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

compare the bolded.

If Jesus was
GOD, then why in John
20:17 did Jesus say, "I
ascend to my God and
your God? This tells us
that we and Jesus have a
common GOD.
Because that was the purpose for which He came to earth, to reconcile man to God. He came to make God our Father, and our God. He became us, He humbled Himself. He was not a man, but He for us evidently made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men
(GNB) Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had, and took the nature of a servant. He became like a human being and appeared in human likeness.
Of course you know that Bible passage. God became Jesus Christ so that He could mediate and save man to God. There was no man capable or qualified. The scriptures are so numerous to state and suggest that Jesus is the very God.
Isa 42:8 I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
Isa 48:11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
How can Jesus possibly be another if God brazenly states that He will not give or share His glory with another?

Muslim: If Jesus was
GOD, then why in John
14:28 did Jesus say, "My
Father (GOD) is greater
than I"?
Because He is God the Son, not God the Father. They are together still the Godhead, equally Omnipresent, Omnipotent, and Omniscient. While He was here on earth, He HUMBLED Himself. It should therefore be obvious that there should be a greater than the Christ, else there is really no humbling. But it is common knowledge that He has seen ascended and i'm happy for it. Unfortunately, the OP and his gang don't seem too happy about it.
Joh 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
He went to take His place. If Jesus is not God, WHY did Thomas call Him God. Why did Thomas say that to Him?

John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Why did the Psalmist call Him God?
Heb 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom.

Why did Paul call Him God?

Titus 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
Titus 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior;

Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no savior.
1Ti 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior;

Why did John call Him God?

1John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
These are the 'mysterious' questions that stare you in the face.

frosbel: Fail again !!

The gospel is repent and be saved or Perish.

No such thing as repent or you will go to hell.
you this semantic hypocrite. I'm glad you didn't copy and paste some article to reply me. where would the sinner perish if not in hell?

styca: I can perceive where you are coming from. there might be underlying reasons for "things" but it is not in the scope of science to figure out the "why" but "how".
so it doesn't necessarily have to be the"believe" that drives them, which put in another way "faith" that gives them the impetus to search.
like why do we have malaria? and how do we cure malaria? which of the questions is not in the scope of science? is there not a BELIEF that there is a cure for an incurable like HIV which hasn't yet been discovered?
