@Kobo You missed an important point. There is a huge difference between spending a $100,000 in a church that you don't run and spending same on a church that you do run.Spending on an auditorium is good business for the owners of the church. They have a pecuniary interest in the proposed auditorium. If they spent same amount on a church which they don't manage or have any pecuniary interest in,it is still wasteful but at least one cannot see any financial benefit accruing to them. At the core of this story is a business investment no different from Dangote's investment in cement factories.Except in the latter, such investment is not cloaked as "worshiping God". |
@Debo I guess you haven't seen Voronin's performances this season. If Rooney has a bad game, does that then mean Saha should have started? "Quiet optimism"?Good thing you are in the 51st state of the US. . . . . .the chest thumping by Gooners in England has reached frenzied proportions, the season hasn't gone half-way yet .Every phone-in programme is hijacked by Gooners claiming they are going to win the Prem and the UCL.Gooners simply don't do "quiet optimism". Indeed,I think the reason you are cautious is because the of presence of people like me who have a knack for finding old quotes and shoving it down delicate parts of the anatomy ![]() Our recent poor form was more an effect of player absence than the away games even though they were tough. Different problems will arise at different moments in the season, the crucial element is how you respond to that. . .and from the result yesterday, we've done that quite well CoolEhm. . . . . you have won just 4 of your last 8 league games. When you picked up 1 point from a possible 6,you cautioned that it will be too quick to draw any conclusions from just 2 games, now you want to draw from one home game.Gooners problem this season has never been about how they perform at the Emirates.Winning your home games isn't decisive in itself-City have won all their home games-its performances away from home that hold the greater significance. |
Suggesting that investing N7.7bn in a humongous auditorium is an act of selflessness is akin to claiming that Dangote's investment in a cement factory is an act of charity. Both are investments which will reap more money for the investors. In a country experiencing mind numbing poverty,a better act of selflessness will be investing in schools,hospitals,scholarships,e.t.c In Nigeria,"worshiping God" has now taken a whole new meaning. |
debosky:That Arsenal have had easier fixtures is not an excuse but a fact.First 9 league games-won 8 and drew 1-next 8 league games-won 4. I seem to remember you here whinging endlessly about how difficult it is to play so many away games within a short space of time, how Newcastle are actually a tough team(nobody seemed to have told Pompey and Liverpool). The irony is that you have used that line of argument to explain away your recent form. I see one game of football has lifted your initial downcast spirit. So it was Voronin's abscence that was crucial? Since when did Voronin become a more effective player for Liverpool than Kuyt?Stop clutching at straws.I seem to remember how you guys were overjoyed after snatching a late equaliser at Anfield, telling us that we are going find it very difficult picking up 3 points at Anfield. |
debosky:Are you talking of the season you finished trophyless? The season we won the league? I was laughing my head off at your and other Gayners constant delusion on this forum. Need I remind you? Do you remember when you guys won at Emirates,I believe in February and you were only 9 points behind. . . . . . remind me what you said again, that you were still in the title race ![]() My greatest fun here is seeing people's baseless hopes raised and crushed.I have been watching this league long enough to forecast who can win the league and who won't. . . . .Arsenal firmly belong in the "won't win" category A team with 3 players returning from injury, losing one of its players in a second half, on the back of its first defeat in the season+a poor run of results defeating a Chelsea team with 13 clean sheets in the last 16 games, with 16 games unbeaten.Oh!Spare us the familiar trotting of nauseating excuses!Losing key players is part and parcel of every league season and is hardly unique to Arsenal.Have Arsenal missed key players anymore than Chelski and Utd? Delusion or no delusion, we have not been anywhere close to this in the past 2 seasons, it will be egregious folly for someone like you to then assume that regardless of what happens the season will end the way it did previously. This is just hocus pocus.I did say before the season started that Gunners will surprise people but one thing is clear-they won't win the league-they won't even finish in the top 2 never mind winning the league. |
debosky:I should be asking you.Now that you have your midfielders back,it will be interesting to hear your excuses as the weeks progress. |
The way the fixture list pans out is fantastic for Utd.We play 4 of the 5 top 6 teams at home in the next round of matches.Chelski play 3 of the 5 at home while Gooners play 4 of the 5 away from home. |
@Vieira I admire your blissful immersion in utter delusion. The eternal folly of Gooners. . . . .who could we laugh so much at the end of the season more than Gooners? ![]() |
This is coming a few days after Avram Grant signed a 4 year contract worth £2.6m per annum. Chelski fans shouldn't be too worried, they will still overtake Arsenal in the table but it is becoming clear that the chase for the title is slipping away from them. nateevs:I was hoping it was a serious injury ![]() |
John Terry could be out for a month with a suspected broken metatarsal. ![]() |
I genuinely don't want Chelski to win this game.I think they are our greatest threat.I would prefer a draw. That is the best of both possible worlds ![]() |
@Jackal That was the best defensive performance I have seen from United for a long time. The biggest danger to our defence came, not from any Liverpool player, but from Van der Saar in the 1st half. The back 4,especially Evra,Rio and Vidic were outstanding. Hargreaves was immense.Anderson tired a bit as the game wore on but he was still outstanding. Anfield is beginning to look like one of those grounds were we are assured of 3 points, like Goodison Park.Contrast our performance with Arsenal's.Arsenal went there and barely managed to get a point, they made such noise about this, you would think they picked all 3 points.I guess they were looking at this fixture as one of those in which Utd will drop points ![]() |
Na wa o.Is this how some people analyze what they read? Anybody can see that is nothing but a satirical piece |
whitelexi:Now that those 3 are back. . . . .Gooners excuse making machine will need to be refurbished. No more,"we are missing 3/4 of our first choice midfield"! You have all your key players back,no excuse for not winning the league. I expect Arsenal to win or at least get a draw.I can't see Chelski getting 3 points here. |
I heard that no Liverpool player has ever scored against United in the League since Benitez came in.The only goal they ever scored was via an O'Shea own goal.Torres was made to look ordinary. . . . . which many will argue he is anyway. Ronaldo showed once again, that he is more effective playing centrally than as a winger. Its very obvious that he is not a natural winger. When moved to the centre,he was far more effective.Against weaker teams,he is normally allowed to join Tevez and Rooney to make it a 3 man strike force because United are always on the front foot.Against big teams, where greater caution is required and we can't afford to be too adventurous,he is ineffectual operating on the flanks, tracking back and trying to take on the full backs. |
Good performance!I thought it would be psychologically damaging if,yet again,we couldn't hold on to a lead against a top 4 side. The lads have done well.Let's see what will happen at the Emirates presido1:Fergie said he won't retire until he makes it 19 league trophies overall.Liverpool are still leading Utd 18-16 in the overall league count. We are getting there! When Fergie came,it was 18-7.Even Arsenal were ahead of us at one point, now Arsenal are stuck on 12 ![]() |
@kalokalo Satire my friend.Should be able to recognize a satirical piece. |
Women want to "marry up",but also men want to "marry down".Very few men will want to marry a woman who has higher income than them. |
Even if those Turks are vampires. . . . . remember those vampire movies were the vampires were defeated by showing them a cross? ![]() |
marlet01:The idea is to keep the opponents guessing.Wenger has no interest in clarifying the injury situation with respect to those 4.For all we know, they could all be fully fit and ready to start. As long as Chelski are confused over the injury situation, not knowing which midfield they will face, all the better for Arsenal. I hope Arsenal win though.Chelski pose the greater threat of the 2 clubs to United's title ambitions. |
It seems there is no Gayner available to receive my insults. Well. . . . .time to go sleep then. If Arse-anal lose on Sunday. . . . . . there will be some bloody raucus on this thread. ![]() |
@Jackal I am sleep typing!!!!!This is what you get when you reach the highest level of enlightement through Zen Buddhism. You can type and read while sleeping. I heard Scholesy will be back by the end of January. The Neviller will soon be back. What are u doing so late?Sleep typing? |
@Jackal Debo is exhibiting sypmtoms of the early onset of Disappointitis Just a few weeks ago,he like many other Gooners, thought Arse will win the Prem,FA/Carling Cup,UCL,African Nations Cup,Odumota Youths Cup,e.t.cThey thought they will win everything.Nothing triggers Disappointitis as much as expectations being mugged by reality. Its a particular ailment notorious with Arse fans. I saw some stats from the eminent Dr Scheweinsteiger of the Institute of Mental Health,Leeds.30% of inmates of mental hospitals in Britain support Arsenal. The question is,is there a causal link between their condition and their choice of club? |
@rikkyjen The Rochester Warrior has suffered a nervous breakdown due to the impending visit by of Ze Blues to the Emirates. Can't see him coming online unless in another guise. So what if you are 300m? We are talking of relative standard of living. What the f*ck are you doing following "soccer" anyway?Don't you have better sports to watch like NASCAR,Major League Doping. . . sorry Major League Baseball.Leave the "Beautiful Game" to UK residents |
I saw this funny entry in Football365.com:The ugliest striking combination in the Prem.My nomination is for Adebayor and Dudu. . . . .most seemed to nominate Rooney and Tevez(wonder why if not downright anti-Utd prejudice?) http://www.football365.com/mailbox/story/0,17033,8744_2973616,00.html |
Muslim takes offence!!!!! You might be wondering what is new about that.Well. . . . .straight from the Religion of the Perpetually Offended,I bring you another installation of ,in the best of Islamic traditions,Taking Offence Where Sane Minds Don't .Enjoy : A football strip worn by Italian team Inter Milan is at the centre of a legal row after a lawyer claimed it offended "Muslim sensibilities". Players wore the new strip – a white shirt with large red cross on it – in a Champions League match last month against Turkish team Fenerbahçe to celebrate the club’s centenary. But a Turkish lawyer, Baris Kaska, took exception to the "Crusader-style" cross which he said symbolised "Western racist superiority over Islam". He claimed the offending shirt reminded Turks of an emblem of the Christian order of the Knights Templar. Mr Kaska, who specialises in European law, has lodged a complaint in a local court against the club. He is seeking damages, and is appealing to Uefa to annul the match, which Inter Milan won 3-0. Mr Kaska told the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia: "That cross only brings one thing to mind - the symbol of the Templar Knights. "It made me think immediately of the bloody days of the past. While I was watching the game I felt profound grief in my soul." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/12/12/wfootball112.xml |
I saw this hilarious comment on Football365.com: , You English people should be down on your knees, thanking the Lord for Capello's arrival. He's too good a manager for your pathetic excuses for football players. You should imitate those characters from the movie "Wayne's World" and start crying "we are not worthy, we are not worthy", ![]() |
The president’s accession to the STAR initiative coincided with his clarificaton that the partnership with the US/African Command (AFRICON) does not translate to an acceptance of the command. The President claimed there was a misunderstanding of his comments at the White House on Thursday. It is a partnership, not an acceptance, he stressed.Ah!Its makes sense now.Nigeria entered into a partnership with what it rejects! |
debosky:Dude, shut the F*ck up before I cyber-slap you into January! A loss for us is not as big a deal as it is for Gooners. We are playing away against a fully fit Liverpool side in the best form of their life. You are playing at home and have a reputation for being fickle. The game will be coming on the back of only 3 wins in your last 7 league games,if you don't win this,it will be 3 in 8-that is not Championship winning form. The form table puts Arsenal at 7th.At this rate, you could be struggling to make the top 3 over the coming months. PS:What did you do to Razzorr? Some say its pre-menstrual tension,I say its pre-match tension!Gooners and Blues fans have been snapping at each other like Tom and Jerry |
folahann:Don't mind that stupid pseudo-German,Dayokanu.The boy produces more bullsh*t than a bull with diahreaa! The Champions League is a knockout competition and anything can happen. In Italy,Milan is no where near Inter,Inter regularly gives them an ass-whooping like a dominatrix practising BDSM!Come to Europe,Ancelloti pads up his CV by only competing there. Look at Liverpool in 2005!Crap team.Look at Arse in 2006.Complete sh*t.Were that team better than the 2004 "Invicibles"?Hell no!They were one of the sh*ttiest Arsenal teams Wenger ever produced.Needed a Bakari Lasagna food poisoning to finish ahead of Spurs(whoever thought the right-back would make a good meal anyway) The UCL these days rewards also-rans who don't have the depth and quality to go full throttle for the League title. The league is brilliant in reducing or virtually eliminating the element of luck. The best team inevitably wins. I asked the dumbkopf called Dayokanu whether N.Forest(2 European Cups) are a bigger side than Arse(0 European Cup).He came up with his usual load of horse hockey.Prior to 2006,one could then say, using his warped logic, that Barca were a smaller club than Forest and at par with Villa! |
EloSela:They don't have free health care na!Many of them have died because they couldn't afford the medical costs. With one of the worst life expectancy rates in the Western world, their obesity doesn't help matters. Did you see them during Katrina? Scavenging like Darfurians Its a sad state of affairs.Their President can't even speak English! @Jackal They are a pitiful bunch.I pity poor African-Americans!Many don't have health insurance.Income inequality is one of the worst in the West and Black poverty is more widescale than in the UK's Black population. Washington DC has 2.2% HIV infection rate. That is worse than many parts of Africa!! Shocking. . . . . . they don't even understand!!!! |
See how them go Iraq mess up everything! Compare the South were Britain runs to Central Iraq!Basra province has a lower murder rate than the State of the Washington! People had to send them food aid during Hurricane Katrina! Couldn't mount a bloody half-decent rescue operation These people can't even play football!A nation that doesn't like football as its No1 sport is a nation under a divine curse! ![]() God Save The Queen!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
