THE TOP 10 PLAYERS 1. David Beckham Real Madrid £87m 2. Michael Owen Newcastle United £32m 3. Robbie Fowler Liverpool £28m 4. Sol Campbell Portsmouth £27m 5. Rio Ferdinand Man United £22m 6. Ryan Giggs Man United £22m 7. Andriy Shevchenko Chelsea £22m 8. Thierry Henry Arsenal £21m 9. Wayne Rooney Man United £20m 10. Michael Ballack Chelsea £18m Rooney is only 22 and he is on £20m,Beckham wasn't even close to that at Rooney's age.Beckham is 32 at the moment. In a few years time,Rooney will catch up,he has almost caught with Giggs who has been in the game longer |
These people don't know how many adverts Rooney has been doing these days.At a point,Ronaldinho was earning more than Beckham,-http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200604/s1623641.htmRonaldo of Brazil was also a high earner before his injuries got to him. An excellent footballer can always overcome his ugliness. If Ronaldinho and Ronaldo could do it,then so can Rooney. |
gabrielgb:I'm not criticizing Kroos,I'm criticizing Bayern that is so lacking in depth, that it featured in the centre of midfield, a 17 year old in an important game against the German Champions. when Pirlo was in Inter, he was used a trequartista which doesn't fit his pattern at all. Di Biaggio and Zanetti are defensive midfielders. If not for Ancelotti, Pirlo will languish on the bench in any team. remember the milan winning side of 2002/2003 had seedorf, and Roi custa plus they play 2 strickers. Ancelotti decided to protect him with Gattuso that made him have a free role in the midfield.Rubbish,Pirlo was outstanding in the 2 seasons he spent on loan.Everybody could see that he had a future except the blind Cuper who hates creative midfielders and prefers "water carriers". About the Milan side,do you know that its Silvio Berlusconi that chooses your formation? You no dey shame! Gab Marcotti was claiming that it was Mr B who told Ancellotti that he must play entertaining football with as many creative players as possible.Club President dey choose your team and you still dey talk! gabrielgb:That's why Wenger has been trophyless for 2 consecutive seasons and hopefully for this season as well. When you start playing teenagers in your starting line up,you might as well say goodbye to trophies. That is why playing Kroos was a bad idea in such an important game. I-man where you belong sef. And about Milan using a 17yr kid in your widest dream Grin e no fit happen jare. Am still doubting Pato. he is just too young for calcio. I know he by 21 or 22 he will be much better that Rooney, Messi, fake Ronaldo, etcRed Devils! When they will expose that your fraudulent team wey the President dey pick for competing in only one competition, the UCL,you will know you are in serious trouble. No Chapmpions League football for you next season.Italy's 4 will be -Fiorentina,Inter,Roma and Juventus Pato will be better than Rooney,Ronaldo and Messi?Lets wait and see. When you will be playing in the UEFA Cup next season, you will become a frustrated man like Dayokanu, dey relive past glories I know its Milanese that started the disturbance at Bergamo because they know there team is not yet ready.FORZA BERYEN Grin GrinAs you demean Milan by mentioning them in the same breadth with Bayern, that means you agree that you will follow Bayern into the UEFA Cup next season. |
A working woman is a killer-http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~kirson/papers/kirson_111207.pdf This paper finds a strong positive correlation between female labor force participation and negative health outcomes for middle-aged men and women, and suggests that this correlation is mediated by household-level stress. So women, for the good of your health and that of your husband, stay home and mind the kitchen ![]() |
doyin13:I remember an anecdote about a clueless doctor.A patient told him,"Doc,I have pain in my throat whenever I swallow anything".The doctor's response was,"well, you should stop eating".This thread kind of reminds me of that. Message to a hungry man-eat less, you eat too much sef! Do you remember the Zimbabwean Minister who said that if more Zimbabweans died of hunger, there would less demand for food thus helping solve the food problem. He felt that the famine situation could be solved by less demand!!! ![]() |
Energy efficiency is a key objective which any nation, more so Nigeria, must strive to attain. In reality, this is somewhat stating the obvious. It is no more than saying that one, whether a nation or individual, must seek to use their resources in the most efficient of manner cutting down waste wherever possible. In this sense,I agree with Afam's post. . . . .but before Afam has a heart attack over my agreement with him,let me quickly state where I disagree with him. He leaves the impression that energy conservation is in some sense a panacea to our electricity problem.Further, there is also the impression that we should conserve because we use too much already. This particular statement was illuminating: Even the developed world keeps talking about reducing energy needs and here we are in Nigeria talking about generating more energy to satisfy our already high (and sometimes unreasonable energy demands). Our energy demands are neither high or unreasonable. Some might understand the statement to mean that they are high and unreasonable in the context of our meager resources but he does criticize talking about generating more. To understand our situation and the flaw in the above statement,I will use a simple analogy.Slamming Nigeria for its high and unreasonable energy demand is akin to attacking a hungry starving family for its high and unreasonable demand for food Sure, such a family would be better off if it conserved its little food stock as efficiently as possible, that still doesn't alter the fact that the family does lack sufficient food in the first place. Whether a hungry family,or a man with financial difficulties or Nigeria with its energy problem. The need for conserving what little you have is obvious but that doesn't alter the underlying reality-the resources are little in the first place. Afam dismisses the comparisons made between Nigeria's total electricity generation and South Africa and others. But such comparisons are telling and self evidently illuminating.Does the fact that South Africa,a nation of 47 million, generates at least 40,000 MW of electricity compared to Nigeria's 4,000 MW, show that S.Africa's energy demands are insanely high and unreasonable or does it tell us more about the sheer paucity of our energy infrastructure? I once noted that Iraq,a war torn country of 26 million, produces and uses 5,000 MW electricity. This is more than Nigeria,a nation of 140 million.Perhaps,Iraqis should start using less electricty. I live in the UK,a nation of 60 million, which as at 2003 was using a whopping 137000 MW of electricity. There is constant talk of energy conservation here but that should be seen in the light of abundance of energy.Sure,Nigeria should also conserve, but it is clear that we still need to generate more. The failure of the Govt's policy in regards to power generation has nothing to do with the futility of power generation as an objective. Our Govt has failed to deliver water,health,education,security,e.t.c that doesn't mean Nigerians should forgo health, water, education and security. It simply means that we should explore alternative strategies to deliver increased power generation.Yes,we must conserve but we must also generate more power. |
gabrielgb:See how you contradict yourself, you just said Kroos should be allowed to grow, yet you are complaining about how Cuper used Pirlo who was also a youngster.Pirlo spent most of his time on loan then,I can't remember him featuring for Inter when Cuper was there. In any case, was he better than Di Biagio and Cristiano Zanetti?Cuper liked to play 2 rugged ball winners in the centre of midfield and there was no hope for someone like Pirlo Pirlo wasn't an instant hit with Milan,it took him time to mature. As for Kroos, can you imagine Milan starting a league against the Italian champions with a 17 year old teenager in midfield? It shows the lack of depth in the Bayern squad that they had to feature him in such a league game-he was clearly overawed.Nobody is saying he doesn't have a future but his time is the future not now. |
dayokanu:The statement is correct, whether the implication drawn is wrong is open to debate. The likes of Inzaghi and Seedorf who you mentioned where already players who had proven their mettle at the highest level.Sure, they struggled to maintain their places in the penultimate season before leaving, but they had bags of experience playing for some of the best sides.Seedorf-The great Ajax team,R.Madrid and Inter.Inzaghi-Highest goal scorer in Serie A,was leading scorer for Juventus until his last season. Van Bommel hadn't proven himself, unless you regard PSV as a world class club, the one opportunity he had to play in a top league,he spent most of the time on the bench. It was only when he joined Bayern that he regained his starting position. So prior to joining Bayern, his best performances where with PSV-In that sense you can't compare Van Bommel to Seedorf and Inzaghi. Pirlo had a torrid time at Inter? The boy left Inter at 22,you can't compare that with Van Bommel who spent most of his mature years wasting away at PSV. The Liverpool squad you mentioned doesn't advance your argument one bit. That squad finished 5th in the EPL,maybe if they were a German club, they might win the Bundesliga, were they as mediocre as Sttutgart? It tells us about the relative strength of the EPL. . . . . .Germans keep telling us German clubs are inexperienced, how experienced was Liverpool and their manager in the UCL? Stuttgart have been having a torrid time in the Bundesliga this season too. They are not having it easy in Bundesliga as you insinuate. They are not in top 3. Did you see Schalke's display against Chelsea which is a very strong team? Though thy did not win but did you see the game also Bremen vs Madrid. The difference is the amount of money that the EPL clubs have. But I am very sure Bayern would compete favourably with any team in Europe aside MilanYou even get courage to mention German clubs for Europe Abeg, what did Schalke do that Rosenborg haven't done ?Money talks in football and the best leagues and clubs end up being,in the long term, those with most money. Its stating the obvious. That's why Bayern are the best club in Germany today-money!If they were poor, would you be supporting them?Ashawo! ![]() |
Akolawole:You see how these Gunners dey reason? Henry was an established French international by the time he came to Highbury, their leading scorer in the 98 World Cup,Henry was already a fairly prolific scorer at Monaco.Tigana used to play him both centrally and on the wings.Remember his quarrels with Victor Ikpeba? Ok,so he didn't gain starting place at Juve who had Inzaghi and Del Piero, but not many youngsters would have displaced those 2. This talk of Wenger,in his infinite genius, discovering that Henry was best suited as a striker is silly since it was Wenger who started playing him as a winger in the first place at Monaco.Henry was a striker while at Clarefontaine until Wenger stuck him on the wings. -So Kanu was "abandoned"?This was a player PSV,Fiorentina wanted to sign at the time.Listening to Gunners, you would think nobody wanted Kanu except Wenger. For all the above, you still have your Davor Suker,Pascal Cygan,Reyes,Wiltord,Jeffers,Van Bronchorst,Richard Wright,Kiabe Diawara,Oleg Lhuzny-For every success, there were innumerable failures. Not getting past the Q/F more than once despite having some of the best players in Europe is the worst performance amongst the top European managers |

Jackal:I can tolerate Chelsea, but not Liverpool or Arsenal. If have to choose Utd missing out on a top 4 finish and Arsenal winning the title,I would go for Utd missing out.Can you imagine the sheer noise Gayners will make if they actually win something? The noise will damage your ear drums. . . .even the deaf will hear it. I still can't figure who I hate more between Liverpool and Arsenal.Living in Nigeria,it was definitely Arsenal, but these days,I can't figure out who I hate more. . . . maybe its the Arsenal. |
@ettehgate a.k.a osereka You have always been a fool |
gabrielgb:Maybe if you read more and post less, you will understand where I stand. The question is Bundesliga v EPL. |
dayokanu:I don't think Arsenal are the best side in the EPL anymore than Villareal are better than Barca or Fiorentina better than Milan just because of their present league position. Its very convenient to single out Arsenal in comparison with Bayern. Are they struggling?Even Rumenigge is complaining,it could be because he was against the reappointment of Hitzfeld, but no win in the last 3 league games, never mind the home draw against Bolton,is struggling for a team that spent 70 million Euros in a league that hardly splashes the cash. You saw the game against Sttutgart, what's the likes of Altintop,Kroos and Lell doing in the starting line up.The UCL winning Bayern in Hitzfeld's first era won't have had such players including Man City reject Van Buyten near their first team.Van Bommel was one of their best players last season, this was a man who wasn't in Barca's starting 11 until injuries allowed him in. It doesn't help playing 2 games within 48 hours but the strenght of Bayern's squad is not as good as the likes of Inter,Real,Barca and Chelsea and that is a deeper reflection of the quality of players in the Bundesliga. Believe me,apart from Man Utd that I support,I always enjoy seeing England and EPL clubs suffer defeat so it annoys me to see once glorious leagues like Serie A and the Bundesliga gradually decline while the EPL is moving in the opposite direction. If you think its not shameful that the German champons haven't picked a single point in Europe, most Germans thinks its embarrasing. |
Afam:The Mother of All Ironies. . . . .given that almost all your submissions on this thread are about personalities, you must have the smallest of minds. |
Mamajama:Abeg, read the whole story well, you will see it was the Democrats that didn't want to pursue the motion. . .read am well before posting In an unexpected move, House Republicans on Tuesday voted against a measure to kill an impeachment resolution introduced against Vice President Dick Cheney by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH).The Republicans voted against a measure to kill an impeachment resolution. The Democrats wanted to kill the resolution that their colleague had introduced, but the GOP wanted the impeachment measure to go ahead because they will benefit from it. The Republicans and most Democrats realise impeachment proceedings benefit the GOP because such proceedings are baseless. |
Afam:Behold the resident tout! ![]() |
Mamajama:This is obviously not the case.If the Democrats have stated that they believe Bush has committed impeachable offences but that they don't have enough voted to carry out an impeachment, then your point will arise.Instead they have taken time to dissmis such talk If the Democrats cite such impeachable offenses, any Republican attempt to block such an impeachment will backfire on the GOP.The simple truth is that there no case to be made for impeachment |
Milan simply needs youth in its squad. In the home games I have seen them play, their defence lacked pace and midfielders like Seedorf and Ambrosini were not dropping back to help. They keep holding a high line in defence to exploit the offside rule, but inevitably, pacy wingers especially, get the better of their full backs. Playing only one striker up front has its problems. When Gilardino isn't performing, its only Kaka who troubles the defenders the most but he is operating from deep and is not a natural striker. It won't be bad if they don't make the top 4,I'm hoping Fiorentina qualify for the UCL.I saw their game against Udinese on Sunday and they don't seem to have much creativity beyond Mutu and Liverani. They will struggle to finish in the top 4 against a resurgent Milan side in the 2nd half of the season |
dayokanu:So what then is your argument. If as you admit, the EPL is now better, what's your point? Nobody is interested in what happened between 97 and 2002. We are talking of the present When Bremen is bottom of its group,Sttutgart bottom of its group,Schalke are only 1 point ahead of the bottom club-telling me about the "good ol' days" doesn't make sense. If this had only happened this season,we would have said its a one-off,but its been the case for the last few seasons. Germans themselves admit that there is a big problem. All the comparisons between Hleb and-Meira,Kuranyi,Lahm and Hinkel-are pointless.Hleb has never been in the reckoning for team of the season in the EPL and comparing him with centre-halfs,full backs and strikers in Germany beggars belief. What has the old B.Leverkusen team got to do with anything? The players you mentioned played for a team that finished in the 2nd position,Berbatov plays for an EPL team whose best ever position is 5th.The old Leverkusen team, especially under Daum, were always in the top 3. . . . .but that is all ancient history.Nothing to do with the current quality of the Bundesliga. Its deceptive to simply compare Bayern's squad with Arsenal's squad when we are comparing the 2 leagues.Comapre the various squads of Chelski,Liverpool,Utd and Arsenal to Bremen,Hamburg and Bayern and you will there is a major difference. At the end of all this noise,no single German club will get out of the Group stages of the UCL.We can debate for as long as we want but at the end,the reality is best reflected on the football pitch and there,German clubs are not performing. |

tkb417:He is not cup tied and will feel its an honour just to warm our bench, which of course it is I don't know whether his tantrums will endear him to Fergie though. His reluctance to come on as a sub was appalling. He has a reputation for being inconsistent and for being a trouble maker in a the Bulgarian squad.Getting him won't cost less than £20 mill and at 26,I wonder if he is worth it Karim Benzema,I have been sounding his praises like I'm his agent, would be a brilliant signing for us,yes he is cup tied but he is one for the future. With Fred's return from injury at Lyon,he has lost his place at in the starting line up,which in the next few months could mean that his stock value won't continue to escalate. We can get him for less than the prize of Berbatov |
debosky:No self-respecting footballer at the peak of his career comes to the Bridge. Its either they are trying to make a name for themselves or they have already made a name and are looking for a gullible billionaire to fund their retirement while they get jiggy with London's army of drink sodden slutty girls, mostly to be found around West London. |
@Jackal Never mind the Gunners. . . .if they weren't as loud as girls going through an orgasm, they won't be supporting The Arse. They are noisy now as they were when they were crowned 4th Place Champions for the 2nd consecutive season. |
Heard Platini has dropped his plans for reforms,so Gunners have nothing to fear anymore.Hear they are making plans for the top 3 places in the EPL to be automatic for the UCL. Isn't it annoying how our former prospects end up at other clubs scoring goals for free?Rossi is one of the top scorers at La Liga,so is the impostor-Forlan,even Bellion is now one of the top scorers in Ligue 1-scored 2 at the weekend-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zseHOYMBQno |
Kaka is staying at Milan,if he does leave, his destination will probably be Spain. The man has greater values than the army of money chasing pensioners who end up at the Bridge. Spain will fit him best.Ronaldinho may end up at the Bridge though,he fits the mould-overweight,past his prime, greedy, lacking drive,e.t.c So Ronaldinho to Chelski,Berbatov to Utd and Tresor Mputu to Gunners. . . .no wonder some clubs don't win anything these days. |
loyika:I didn't know the "talk" even started. . . .cos I can remember throughout last season, you insisted Mancs should keep quiet until they actually win, when they won,you insisted they should keep quiet since its all in the past and a new season has begun. . . . .so no matter what,Mancs must keep quiet and leave the noise making for Gayners who haven't won anything since OBJ was plotting his 3rd term ambition. |
Jackal: Let me have what you have been smoking, much as I would love to see it,I never had any hope at the beginning of the season,I definitely can't see that happening now |
Razorr:If Kaka comes to the Bridge, won't he be Cup tied for the UCL,so what's the point? You have greater chances of seeing Chrisantus at the Bridge than Kaka ![]() |
