The World Bank data on ease of doing business released this year ranked Nigeria 169 out of 190 countries. Ten sub-indices were used for this ranking such as starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts and resolving insolvency. One sub-indices that many Nigerians can relate with is electricity. Although all Nigerians are feeling the effects, businesses are feeling it more. Jumia Travel identifies 5 ways power shortage is affecting Nigerian businesses. 1. Huge amounts are budgeted for diesel and generator There is no way any business can run smoothly without having a generator notwithstanding if it is a startup or an established business. The budget for generators, diesel as well as servicing these generators is humongous. These monies, if there is no power interruption, can be deployed to other aspects of the businesses. 2. Startups are likely to fail: Many young Nigerians have ventured into the uncertain world of entrepreneurship despite the recession. They have satisfied all the constitutional requirements for setting up a business but they have to still a factor in how to provide electricity. Over time, you will observe that some of these great startups are likely to fail due to power shortage. They can only do as much. 3. Businesses cannot employ: If electricity can be tackled in Nigeria, the monies companies spend on providing power can be used to employ more Nigerians. This is a part reason why some companies prefer to use contract staff. 4. No room for growth or expansion: Growth and expansion are essential to any business. The more businesses spend on electricity, the more they cut back on growth. Combining power shortage with the economic recession, some companies have no choice than to lay off some of their workers. 5. Businesses are moving out Nigeria is the biggest market in Africa. At the same time, it has the biggest challenges. Some of them have decided to continue running their businesses in the country, others have made the decision to move their operations to other countries while maintaining a little presence in the Nigeria. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/01/5-ways-power-shortage-affecting-nigerian-businesses/ |

Part of Johnson Suleiman's 2017 prophecies are coming to fulfilment |
Following the attempted arrest earlier this morning of Apostle Johnson Suleman, the president and founder of Omega Fire Ministry worldwide by officials from the Department of State Security (SSS), the church management has issued a press release condemning the development. The statement jointly signed by Dr. Sule Emmanuel, senior pastor, OFM South Africa Churches and Director of Media (OFM Worldwide) and Barrister Samuel Amune Esq, Coordinator, OFM Legal Team Worldwide, reads; “This is to inform the millions of followers and supporters of Apostle Johnson Suleman all over the world that the man of God is very safe, and that the attempted arrest by the Department of State Security on the man of God on the instruction and orders of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari was unsuccessful. Over the last couple of months, thousands of defenseless Christians have been killed across various cities in Nigeria, with nearly a thousand so far killed in southern Kaduna alone. Shockingly, there has been no firm statement or action by the Nigerian government to stop these destruction of lives and properties neither has any one been arrested or charge to court, largely because these senseless killings are been perpetrated by kinsmen of the President. And because of the body language of the President, these killings have progressively increased. However, Apostle Johnson Suleman, in his love for Nigeria and as God’s representative to the people, has refused to keep quiet about all these immoral happenings, and he has continued to speak truth to people in position of authority; calling on the government to do the needful, and protect the citizens. Only recently, God’s servant, Apostle Johnson Suleman was forced to call on Christians all over Nigeria to defend themselves against these killers since the spate of killings has been on the rise. Interestingly, the call by the man of God for the Christians to take caution and defend themselves where necessary has become the core focus of the Nigerian government, despite the fact that it has evidently failed to protect her people. It is now determined to exploit the instruments of the State to go after the man of God. Typical of a tyrannical government, while the man of God was in Ekiti State–Nigeria for a crusade which held at the Ekiti State Pavilion, the government of President Buhari ordered two truck-load of fully armed DSS officers to forcefully arrest the man of God, but the people and the government of Ekiti-State overwhelmingly resisted the arrest. Let it be on record that this assault occurred around 1am in the morning of 25/01/2017. Apostle Johnson Suleman is not facing any corruption charges neither is there any petition against him. The attempted arrest being masterminded by the PRESIDENCY against him is unconstitutional, morally wrong and procedurally defective. This country was founded on the principles of equality before the law and justice. There should be strict adherence to the Spirit and Letters of our Constitution and nobody should be treated as a common criminal. As the country belongs to every one of us irrespective of religion, sex and social status. By the way, the man of God in his prophecies for the year 2017 which he issued before the end of 2016 had already informed the public how God showed him that in 2017 the government of President Buhari will come after him because of his stand against the policies and actions of the government. But God is ever faithful to protect his Anointed from the oppressors. All over the world, no responsible government ever makes religious leaders their object of attack, but they would rally round religious leaders to see how to forestall any crisis and foster unity. History has shown that when you make religious leaders objects of attack, the repercussions are very grave. Beyond just being an esteemed and beloved preacher of the gospel, Apostle Johnson Suleman is a renowned philanthropist and statesman. On a weekly basis, he sponsors widows, jobless graduates and several Nigerians to start businesses and give meaning to their lives, while also giving scholarships to countless number of people to obtain university education. All these self-sacrificing philanthropic gestures are not directly or indirectly funded by the church, but directly from Apostle Johnson Suleman’s private resources and from his several business interests. Even with the present needless sufferings and hardship the present government of President Buhari has plunged Nigerians into, Apostle Johnson Suleman has remained undeterred and consistent in doing his best in alleviating the sufferings of the people. While in Ekiti, he doled out over One Million Naira to certain people who had various financial challenges. These individuals were strangers to him, but because they are fellow Nigerians, he considers them his brothers and sisters, and he just had to do something to end their despair. This is the kind of good heart the man of God, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has for his country and his compatriots. We are hereby calling on the Nigerian government to put a stop to senseless attacks on Christian leaders, especially Apostle Johnson Suleman. These are leaders and beacons of hope whose integrity and teachings have kept this country in unity and consistently given hope to millions of Nigerians faced with hunger, neglect, abuse and ill-treatment from the government they optimistically voted into power. We will like to inform the government of Nigeria that Omega Fire Ministry has numerous branches of her ministry in over 51 nations, (with over 500,000 membership in Nigeria alone) and all our National churches have been mandated to take our protest letter to the Nigerian Embassy in all these nations, and to inform the government of the respective nations of the despotic and tyrannical approach of the government of President Buhari to Christians and Christian leaders in Nigeria. We also make bold to say that we shall employ all means whatsoever legally permissible to seek redress and defend ourselves and our Apostle should the Presidency continue this senseless attack. It is unacceptable that the killers of the people are not being arrested, but respected men of God are made object of attacks by the institutions of government. We like to unequivocally state that Apostle Johnson Suleman believes in the progress and unity of Nigeria, and this will remain the core of all his messages. However, no intimidation from the government will stop him from speaking the truth to the government, and standing in defense of the defenseless. We believe that the greater and brighter days of this country are very close-by, and God in His judgment will surely displace the enemies of his people, regardless of how highly placed they are. Apostle Johnson Suleman will continue praying for the good of Nigeria, and for the Almighty God to guide her leaders’ right. In conclusion, we use this medium to call on the government of President Buhari to heed the call of all Nigerians, and step-up in his leadership! Protect the people. Stop the mindless killings going on daily in Nigeria. Stop the unwarranted persecution against the church, the Christian community and the wanton destruction of churches. As father of the nation, let your body language and your voice be visibly heard as leader of a united Nigeria. God bless Nigeria.” http://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2017/01/attempted-arrest-apostle-johnson.html

The Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) Abuja, has accused a banker, Adebayo Ogunusi, of defrauding 26 persons of N472,353,812 million in a currency exchange scam. The police arraigned Ogunusi, 41, Wednesday before Mrs F.O. Botoku of an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on 26 counts of obtaining money under false pretence. According to the charge marked B/33/2016, the defendant, whose address was not given, obtained sums totalling N472, 353,812million from several customers under the pretext of converting it to a dollar equivalent. Last November, the FCIID Lagos accused Ogunusi of a similar charge bordering on a N435m fraud and arraigned him before Magistrate A. O. Awogboro of an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court. Wednesday, prosecuting Sergeant Innocent Odugbo told the court that the defendant committed the alleged fraud between May and August 2016. He alleged that the customers trusted Ogunusi to procure dollars for them because he was a banker but he swindled them all. Odugbo stated the names of the complainants and the sums they allegedly lost as follows: Abiodun Fari-Arole N90m, Subomi Okeowo N27m, Adetunji Lukman N32.660m, Gbenga Ogunrinola N42.630m, Kehinde Agbabiaka N41.350m, Segun Ogunjimi N29.9m, Sola Sanda N25.650m, Mufu Gbadamosi N23.765m, Kunle Ogunsanya N16.5m, Muyiwa Teriba N17.8m, Afeez Olawale N14.5m, Francis Zakari N19.992m and David Adesanya N11.6m. Others are Kolawole Osundiya N10.1m, Segun Sodipo N19.5m, Engineer Wale Oduwole N9.9m, Tayo Akinyelure N7.945m, Tosin Osunkoya N6.6m, Dele Banjo N5, 787,312m, Akinola Olamilekan N3.4m, Gboyega Durojaiye N3.1m, Supo Olowu N4.650m, Yemi Oshilaja N2.950m, First Vending Ltd N2.9m, Ibrahim Sokoto N1, 382,500 and N792,000 from Afolabi Mabogunje. According to the prosecutor the offences were punishable under Section N312 (1) and (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Ogunusi denied the charge. One of the complainants, who didn’t identify himself, responded to a question from the magistrate and said Ogunusi was his childhood friend with whom he attended primary and secondary schools as well as university. He identified the defendant as a banker in an unnamed bank and said Ogunusi told them he had access to foreign exchange in his bank and that was why they trusted him enough to give him their money. Magistrate Botoku granted Ogunusi N10m bail with two sureties in the like sum. She also ordered the defendant to deposit his international passport. The case was adjourned till February 23 and 24 for trial. http://thenationonlineng.net/banker-charged-n472m-dollar-exchange-scam/ |
Sela Alpha Nuhu and his brother didn’t like what their father always did. The earliest memory they had of him was of a man puffing away at stick after stick of cigarette. Adding their ages to papa’s self-confessed years of indulgence, Sela and his brother concluded father’s lungs had smoked for five long decades! It was time it stopped, they resolved. But old habits die hard. It was unlikely the anger and protests of two fed up young men would bring any respite. Pa’s fingers, it appeared, were stub-stuck for too long. And no one – not even himself – could pull them away. “I grew up realising dad was addicted to smoking,” said Sela. “He usually sent me to get him cigarettes. He would sit up late into the night, sending whitish cloudlets into the air. We were always furious. We worried that his nightly pastime could make thieves break in.” In their fruitless quest for a solution, the brothers always “complained to him, instead of to God.” It was where they missed the mark. Sela’s brother finally got his hands on the Morning Water. He had heard testimonies of how the power of God, through the spiritual item, set people free from habits and satanic oppression. It was time to put his faith to work. “We dropped some Morning Water into his cup,” said Sela. The deed was done. The brothers simply had to sit back for a “few weeks” and watch “the huge change” that had suddenly come on their father, who in the young man’s words, “has stopped smoking cigarettes till now and forever!” All the way from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, an excited Sela says: “We give thanks to the Almighty God who has seen us through. Thank you, Jesus!” http://i.emmanuel.tv/testimony/fathers-50-year-addiction-cigarettes-disappears/

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has alleged that the police high command dismissed the six policemen attached to him because they refused to allow the security agencies execute their plot of assassinating him. Speaking when he received the Aluu Council of Chiefs at the Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday, Wike alleged that there was a plan by the security agencies to assassinate him, but his security details resisted the execution of the evil plot. He said: “The policemen were dismissed because they did not allow the security agencies to assassinate me as was planned. “The security agencies planned to assassinate me, but those attached to me resisted the plot and refused to allow them kill me. That is why they are angry and desperate.” The governor said he would continue to defend the interest of the state, noting that he would never plead with the security agencies to stop their illegal activities. He said the fraudulent invasion of Rivers State by the security agencies during the last rerun elections was a wake up call for the people to be prepared for the rigging of elections in 2019 by the same security agencies. “The security agencies, by their actions on December 10, 2016 rerun elections, alerted us on how they plan to rig the 2019 elections. We are now prepare for them,” Wike said. He commended the Aluu community for cooperating with the government to tackle cultism in the area. He said the peaceful nature of the area had led to improved execution of projects for the people. The governor said his administration would develop different communities in line with the pledge to the people. He said it was unfortunate that the immediate past All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state failed to develop communities adjoining Port Harcourt, despite the funds available to it. Earlier, Chairman of the Aluu Council of Chiefs, Chief Kenneth Wobunwo lauded Governor Wike for the state burial accorded their son, Captain Elechi Amadi. He also commended him for renaming the former Port Harcourt Polytechnic as Elechi Amadi Polytechnic. The Aluu leaders further thanked the governor for constructing the major road to the area. http://sunnewsonline.com/dismissed-policemen-frustrated-my-assassination-wike/

The solidarity rally by the indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for new US President, Donald Trump in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State has turned violent. Media and Publicity secretary of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful, in a short message he sent to DAILY POST alleged that no fewer than 11 members of the pro-Biafra group have been shot dead by security operatives. “They have attacked our people; 11 have been confirmed dead, many others have bullet wounds”, he claimed in the statement. He alleged that the attack was carried out by the police, the army and the Department of State Services, beside First Artillery junction, Port-Hacourt. The IPOB spokesman had earlier in a statement he issued on Friday morning, raised the alarm over what he called, ”the barbaric plans by the Nigeria security agencies against the recent TRUMP solidarity rally in Igweocha Port-Harcourt River state today, 20th January 2017.” “The Nigeria security agencies, especially the DSS have perfected plans to share some weapons/guns to unscrupulous elements in the society to join the peaceful solidarity rally for TRUMP today in order to create problem within the crowd. “IPOB is a peaceful organization that have no guns or weapons but Nigeria government and her security agencies especially the DSS have shared destructive objects to kill people in Igweocha River state today. “We are calling on international community, men and women of good conscience around the world to note this because IPOB is peaceful and if anything happens, Nigeria government led by Muhammadu Buhari and the security agencies, especially the DSS should be held responsible,” he had claimed. However, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, described the reported killing as false. He said to the best of his knowledge, there was no casualty as the police did not use force but merely employed minimal action, which involved the use of tear gas. He added that the situation had been brought under control and that everybody was now going about their normal businesses. http://dailypost.ng/2017/01/20/breaking-ipob-trump-solidarity-rally-turns-violent-11-feared-dead-photo/

DMW boss and Sony Music act, David Oyeleke, Davido may be swimming in another troubled water if the lyrics of the latest single is featured by DJ Jimmy Jatt literally means what he says In the single ‘Orekelewa’ by DJ Jimmy Jatt, featuring Davido, he could be heard saying for about two minutes into the song remarks that could be referring to the KoKo Master D’Banj. “Who them dey ask what is the KoKo o. I can tell them say Owo ni KoKo o. He still think say na him be the KoKo o, get outta here he forget say we don carry am go,” he mimes. If he isn’t referring to D’Banj who is known as the KoKo Master, he probably just playing up one of the mischiefs of his. But then Davido is known for always flagrantly courting for trouble. His calling media mogul and Ovation publisher ‘my boy’ in Falz’s ‘Bahd Baddo Baddest’ is still very fresh in the minds. And the curious thing about his audacity is that, he’s fond of doing it on other people’s songs. Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/01/davido-shades-dbanj-new-single/
