2face Idibia’s Planned Protest: We ‘ll Arrest Him, If… – Police

ABUJA—The Nigerian Police, yesterday, said it would not allow the anti-government protest planned by popular music star, Innocent Idibia, (2Face Idibia) to hold in Lagos, just as Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors Forum, Mr Ayodele Fayose; lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa; among other Nigerians, insisted that Nigerians have a right to freedom of expression.

The popular Afro-Pop artiste, 2Face Idibia, had earlier in the week, called for the support of his fans and colleagues via his social media platforms to join his march against the crippling economic state of the nation. The protest is slated for February 6, 2017.

In a video posted on his Facebook account on Tuesday, 2Face urged Nigerians to come out in a “peaceful and articulate manner” for the march, adding that “the need for urgent solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians has become very clear. Things are not getting better for the majority, we are still where we are, poor and desperate. I will no longer be quiet.”

The group coordinating the protest, @EiENigeria, wrote in its Twitter handle: “In view of the latest police update, how do we proceed with the march? Protest continues as planned. #IStandWiithNigeria.

Our leaders owe us their ears too and they must hear us. This march is about connecting the government with the citizens.”

We ‘ll arrest him, if… —Police

But the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the command will not let the protest hold in the metropolis. Owoseni said intelligence reports indicates that criminals might hijack the process to wreak havoc in Lagos.

He said: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest and at such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos. We know that Tuface does not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand,” Owoseni said.

According to him, “no matter how good an intention is, hoodlums would always find a way to harass, rob and attack innocent members of the public who may wish to go about their lawful duties.

Owoseni had earlier said, the protest planners have not officially notified the police of their plan, stressing that the police encourage civil society groups to inform the force anytime they want to stage a protest because of their safety and that of others, as hoodlums seize such medium to perpetrate evil. The Police, however, threatened to arrest the singer if he dares hold the protest.

Fayose, Adegboruwa react

Reacting to Owoseni’s position, Governor Fayose reminded the commissioner that “the duty of the police to secure Nigerians is mandatory, not optional. Therefore, if there is any intelligence report suggesting the possibility of criminals hijacking the process, it is the duty of the police to provide security cover for the protesters.”

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose noted that the All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government must be made to understand that leadership is about accountability and to be accountable, leaders must listen to public opinion either by civil or peaceful protest.”

Fayose continuing, said: “Court of Appeal affirmed in its judgment in Inspector General of Police Vs All Nigerians Peoples Party that protest or gathering do not require police permit or interference as obtainable in an advanced democracy.

“Most importantly, the protest is said to be for and about good governance. So who is afraid of the protest? Who does the police represent or is representing in this issue?” Justifying the protest, the governor said: “Nigerians are hungry and angry, our currency is now above N500 to $1. If Nigerians want to show their anger, no one should prevent them. Nepotism, extra judicial killings, disobedience to court order and human rights abuses must stop.

“The conscience is an open wound and the guilty is afraid. If the APC-led Federal Government is now acting as if the protest is against it, it means the federal government has accepted to be guilty as charged. Like I said before, I support the protest.

Also, lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa called the bluff of the Police Commissioner, asking him to get a copy of the Nigerian constitution to guide his actions instead of threatening to cut short the wishes of the masses.

This is also as Niger Delta ex militants have pledged support to the protest, saying it is the best way to go. The ex militants vowed to heed the 2Face call for peaceful protest if it would call the attention of the government to the plight of Nigerians.

Adegboruwa said: “I have read reports credited to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police declaring that the rally slated for Lagos on Monday February 6, 2017, will not hold. I consider this to be an attempt to intimidate those who wish to partake in the rally, otherwise it cannot be a message for us veterans and indeed the deprived, oppressed and hungry people of Nigeria.

“For the information of the Police Commissioner, Nigeria is a democratic country governed strictly in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution. Section 39 of the Constitution grants freedom of expression, including the right to be heard and to disseminate information and ideas. Section 40 grants the right to associate and gather together. Section 38 grants the right to freedom of movement and peaceful assembly. I believe that Mr Fatai Owoseni has a copy of the Constitution, to guide his actions and utterances on this matter, instead of threatening 2Baba and law abiding citizens, who are responsible for his salary.”

He reminded Owoseni that the issue of police permit for citizens to gather freely expired with the coming into force of the 1999 Constitution and that hinging on it to deny people right to gather was like going back to the military era of shutting up citizens from legitimate expressions.

“I therefore, urge the good people of Nigeria, especially those who reside in Lagos, to join us en mass at Ikeja, for the rally on February 6, 2017. We cannot be intimidated in our own country, by the same people who are paid to protect us.

“This is not a rally by miscreants or thugs as to warrant the fears being expressed by the police commissioner. The statutory duty of the police is to offer us protection on Monday and help to maintain orderliness, throughout the period of the rally.

So come rain or shine, we shall hold the rally on Monday, as scheduled, because it is illegal for the police to seek to ban a lawful assembly,” Adegboruwa added.

PoliticsGov. Okorocha Replied Obiano, Challenged him to publish his achievement by ipreach(op): 7:50pm On Feb 02, 2017
THE WAR CONTINUES

GOVERNMENT OF IMO STATE
PRESS RELEASE

RE: GOVERNOR WILLIE OBIANO IS NOT THE ONE TALKING BUT “X.O.” AND WE INSIST HE SHOULD PUBLISH HIS ACHIEVEMENTS

For the second time in forty-eight hours, Governor Willie Obiano had engaged in an unwarranted and unprovoked media attacks against Governor Rochas Okorocha.

The first attack was when he took on the Imo Governor unprovoked, over his Claim that two governors in the South-East would soon join APC. Obiano said the Imo Governor was not what a good leader should be.

To us in Imo, we saw that Statement as callous especially when it was from a governor. And we had no option than to react to it to prove that such careless statement was uncalled for. We then Challenged Obiano to publish his achievements in Anambra State for four years and let Okorocha publish his own achievements in Imo for five years since leadership is all about service to God and service to humanity.

And instead of doing that, Governor Obiano used the opportunity he would have appropriated to display his achievements in Anambra if any, to call Governor Okorocha names, which is neither here nor there. We still maintain our Challenge on Governor Obiano to publish his achievements as governor in Anambra and let Okorocha also do the same.

Again, with the way Governor Obiano had talked both in the first and second attacks, it is easy to conclude that the Anambra governor was not the one talking but “X.O”, which he fancies a lot.

Governor Rochas Okorocha has never lived overseas. He has lived all his life in this country. His wealth and popularity are all products of hard work and God’s grace. And it is an enviable record that a man of his status has never been associated with any corrupt practice in this Country either by an individual or by a group.

Leveraging on his hard earned popularity, Okorocha defeated an incumbent governor in 2011 on the platform of APGA that had no structure before he came on board and with the incumbent then enjoying massive federal might. And in 2015, he joined the Merger from a zone that could be regarded as the “headquarters” of the PDP. He resisted all the storms including the federal might that was deployed against him and was elected for second term. They could only give him the name “Alhaji in Douglas House”.

Obiano is a governor. Okorocha is a governor. Let them begin the Contest by publishing their achievements in their respective States for Nigerians to see. It is not a noise-making venture or name-calling enterprise.

Anambra State has remained as Obiano met it. Awka the State Capital has remained as Obiano met it. Government House Awaka has remained like that. Let him prove us wrong. That is what we want to achieve. Owerri the Imo State Capital today has eight-lane roads Courtesy of Okorocha in his urban renewal programme, Douglas House has been remodeled and given a facelift, two fly-overs, three tunnels, 500 kilometres of urban roads, International Convention Centre, (IICC), and remodeling of all the premier Schools, all in Owerri, the State Capital.

Okorocha has built new Universities including Eastern Palm University Ogboko, Aboh Mbaise/Ngor-Okpala University of Agriculture & Vetinary medicine, Ihitte Uboma College of Education, Imo College of Advanced Studies, 800 kilometres of rural roads, 305 Upstair School buildings in the 305 wards in the State, 27 General Hospitals.

Sam Mbakwe Airport is today International Cargo Airport, the free education programme in Imo has remained productive that the State has maintained her lead in JAMB Applications and admissions since 2012. The record is there for verification. The School enrolment has gone from 280,000 in 2011 to 800,000 in 2015 because of the free education. The Poverty level in the State in 2011 was 57% but in 2015 it came down to 19 percent, according to United Nations report, because parents now channel the money they would have used to pay fees to other economic ventures.

Obiano engaged in what the Igbos would regard as Ikuonu (talking frivolities) when he talked about Salaries. A conscious governor should be making valid Statements. Okorocha has paid Salaries upto December 2016. This is verifiable and we stand to be contradicted. We have also cleared arrears of Pensions upto December 2016 based on the understanding with Pensioners in the State. It is left for Obiano to do the needful by publishing his achievements and stop shying away from this people-oriented Challenge.

All our Claims are verifiable. Okorocha has about two thousand projects scattered in all the nooks and crannies of the State and we are itching to use this opportunity offered by Willie Obiano’s noise to show-case them.

Governor Obiano should publish his achievements in Anambra as governor for almost four years to show he is a leader because leadership does not exist in the vacuum. There must be basis for that claim. Talking frivolities is neither here nor there. Governor Okorocha long before now, has paid his dues in this Country and equally long before becoming governor. He is not among those elements godfathers carried on their backs to the governorship seat and they are just there void and not adding any colour to the whole thing.

We are not concerned about noise-making occasioned by “X.O.”. We are waiting for Obiano to publish his achievements in Anambra State. If he fails to do that, we will go ahead to publish ours. The era of too much noise is gone since action speaks louder than words.

PoliticsObiano Blasts Okorocha, Calls Him A Rabble Rouser by ipreach(op): 9:34pm On Feb 01, 2017
PRESS STATEMENT

GOV. OKOROCHA’S ATTACK ON GOV. OBIANO: LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD!

The attention of the Media Directorate of the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has been drawn to the gratuitous diatribe by a fellow South Eastern Governor, Rochas Okorocha of Imo State against his person and the government of Anambra State.

It is not in our tradition to respond to such issues but since silence in the face of such grave claims often amount to guilt, we are therefore duty bound to make our position known to properly guide the public.

Okorocha mischievously titled his attack against Chief Obiano “Governor Willie Obiano’s Unwarranted Media Attack On Governor Rochas Okorocha Over His Innocent Claim That 3 Governors In The South-East Would Soon Join APC” and claimed that it was a fallout of a harmless statement he made at the APC Stakeholders Meeting In Owerri that three governors in the South-East would soon join APC.

In the statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary Sam Onwuemeodo, Governor Rochas made a lot of spurious claims against the Person of Chief Obiano, his Office and the Govnment of Anambra State.

He referred to Chief Obiano as a ‘‘clueless governor,’’ one therefore wonders what cluelessness means if Governor Obiano who has dazzled all Nigerians with his superlative style of governance is referred to as clueless.

If a governor that has constructed countless number of roads and bridges, embarked on several rural electrification programmes, constructed uncountable number of schools, and health facilities as well as rid the entire Anambra State of crime and criminalities, is being termed clueless by Okorocha then there must be another meaning for cluelessness.

Okorocha’s claim that there is a general impression that Chief Willie Obiano is “an aggressive governor who should have done better as a militant than as a governor” is laughable and it is clear to Nigerians who really is a “motor park” personality between them.

Obiano has always been known and accorded the respect of a complete gentleman, while Okorocha is widely known for his questionable past which has continued to trail him despite his hogwash attempts to cover it up with a façade of his bogus but empty philanthropic activities. Many people have over time seen through his tricks. What a pity!

Indeed Okorocha “is an example of what a leader should not be”. Who is he to teach the virtues of leadership, ideas and service to Gov Obiano? He talks of ideas when he cannot pay workers salaries and now tries to intimidate Imo retirees to forfeit 60% of their arrears of their sweat. Are those the kind of ideas we need at this critical time? Those are destructive ideas, and a destructive idea cannot bring about constructive ends.

Rochas challenged Obiano to publish his achievements in Anambra state. But the whole world knows of his feat in this regard. From making Anambra to attain a crime-free status, rapid industrialization by rehabilitation of roads and constructing new ones; demolition of a 30-year old mountain of refuse in Okpoko two years ago; putting public facilities in place such as the 47 solar-powered boreholes that now serve 27 communities and increasing Anambra State IGR from the N500m monthly that it inherited to N1.3bn per month, to clearing the arrears of salaries owed the state water corporation staff as well as the approximately N1bn pension that was owed local government retirees inherited by the administration. Obiano has been a superlative performer!

But this cannot be said of Governor Okorocha whose so called popular policies like free education at all levels has been a fluke and at best an over bloated media hype. His other so called programmes have also been discovered to be mere flash in the pan as the people of Imo State have seen through his tricks and treachery as well as other clandestine tendencies.

Okorocha claimed that Obiano has taken Anambra state several kilometers backward, but the records are there to show who has taken his state backward.

When serious Governors like Obiano are talking the likes of Okorocha should keep quiet. This is a Governor who has failed woefully to pay workers salaries. He is also heavily indebted to even pensioners who have spent their youth and strength to labour for the state, in their old age Okorocha's’s government has abandoned them at this most critical time that they need the state. What an abomination!

While claiming a noble antecedent, Governor Okorocha questioned Obiano’s antecedent before he became Governor. What insolence and tomfoolery! The world knows Chief Willie Obiano’s antecedent as an accomplished banker of repute and a great juggernaut in the finance industry.

But the same cannot be said of Okorocha as Nigerians truly know him for the wrong reasons, they know him as a rabble rouser, who claimed to be a politician and flew the tricky kite of contesting for the Presidency just to corner some change into his pockets and the records are there for everyone to see.

As Nigerians ruminate on this matter the question should be asked: What was he before he became governor? What was his visible source of income? May be we should look a little bit at Okorocha’s antecedent. This is a man who managed to wangle his way into the corridors of power through intrigue and deceit.

He was the chairman of the Nigeria Red Cross Society who railroaded gullible politicians and made many individuals and corporate organizations to donate several billions in a bogus scheme.

In other climes, people like Okorocha cannot ascend to the high Office of Governor. This is another indication of a lacuna in our laws that should make room for the scrutiny of the antecedents of individuals who aspire to such sensitive offices. Therefore, that Rochas is a Governor today in Nigeria is indeed an insult on our collective psyche.

This is someone who had no money to contest for governorship and had to run to a billionaire industrialist from Ukpo in Anambra State who graciously assisted him because of his Pan Igbo love for APGA on whose platform Okorocha contested. But soon afterwards Rochas abandoned APGA thereby betraying the Igbo interest, a clear pointer that he can’t be trusted.

On the other hand Obiano was not just a banker but he reached the apogee of his profession and retired as Director of one of the Nation’s leading banks. It was these credentials that the people of Anambra saw that they beckoned on him to serve in a higher capacity and not the so called godfatherism narrative that Okorocha is promoting.

But the same cannot be said of Okorocha whose life has been riddled with all forms of unclear deals. The truth is that those with such virtues in their blood cannot really change.

Okorocha has again shown that he is a very bad leader who should not be looked up to by the Igbos. In his puerile message against governor Obiano he concluded by saying “Finally, in Imo we do not have the record or culture of insulting people, but we do not shy away from undue provocation or undue attacks."

By this statement, he is trying to pitch the entire good people of Imo against the noble Anambra people, a very sad path for a governor who should know the importance of working to unite the entire Igbo nation instead of trying to spark a fire among brothers where it does not exist. He should be man enough to leave both the people of Imo and Anambra out of this issue and face Governor Obiano record for record.

But obviously, the records of Governor Obiano intimidates him and therefore as a weak leader he seeks to drag everyone into a needless war.

Let it be emphasized that Governor Obiano has not only been paying and increasing workers emoluments, he has also introduced credible palliative measures to mitigate the suffering of ndi Anambra from the current economic recession, but for Okorocha, instead of facing the serious task of assisting his people to come out of poverty he specializes in erecting Christmas trees worth over ten million naira during the yuletide. His unguarded utterances have also undermined his position as governor.

What is “analogue” about a Governor who had made it in the banking industry and retired as a Director of fledging bank? Obiano was indeed a career professional and consummate banker whose records both in the private sector cannot be rubbished.

Good enough, Nigerians have descended on Okorocha on the social and traditional media since the insulting statement was published, one of them wrote “What achievements can a governor like Okorocha boast of?” Another one said “Okorocha from day one is an enemy to Igbo Agenda”

And let it be clear that we are not against him as a person but we must differ on the ground of his inability to meet up with the challenges of governance.

Rather than cast aspersion on Governor Obiano, he should borrow a leaf from his success story in good governance and from other performing governors even of APC such as Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos.

Okorocha should key into President Mohammadu Buhari's anti corruption fight and do so sincerely. His governance of Imo State has been a catastrophic and unmitigated disaster and he should therefore be told so.

He should strive to work hard so that the good people of Imo would also love him just as Anambra people are in love with Governor Obiano because of his sincere and people centered style of governance. This is our candid opinion.

CelebritiesLIB Exclusive: 2face Is Never Concerned About People But Himself - Blackface by ipreach(op): 2:07pm On Jan 31, 2017
A few hours ago, Blackface renewed his bitter rivalry with 2face Idibia when he re-posted a lengthy piece titled 'Let us educate the illiterate' on his Instagram page targeting 2face Idibia and the planned protest on February 5, 5017. Read here
With this, LIB exclusively reached out to Blackface who defended his action saying, 'I don't think they should be thinking of a protest because we just got out from a crazy time, and the government is trying to fix the country. It's time to support the government and see what we can do for the country and not protest. They have been there for smaller amount of time and expect them to do miracles'. Read the rest of the exclusive interview after the cut....

LIB: Don't you think the present government has subjected several citizens to hardship?

This government? Have they forgotten there was a government before this present administration. If somebody has Pneumonia, you would forget the time the person was in cold. Just for us to be factual, what is he protesting about? I think he should do better things than protesting. He should protest with his music, if I should advice him kindly. Has he protested for his Local government in his state? They say charity begins at home.

LIB: So you think the protest is meaningless?

I think its a waste of time.

LIB: Do you think the government has really done well?

We can't start asking this government if they have down well, they just started. PDP was there for about fifteen years. Did they come out to protest why there was no constant electricity?, Why was the National Stadium being used for unnecessary occasions? Why were people doing things against the law? so Why didn't they protest?

LIB: In the post you shared, 2face was described as an illiterate for his move to protest against the government, don't you think that was harsh?

I'm not the one who wrote the article, but there are things he shouldn't go into because he doesn't know anything about it.

LIB: So why did you repost it?

I had to because people have to read what the person's opinion is all about. This person thinks like this. You (2face) don't think similar and I think a lot of people feel this same way too. Has Fela ever called people out to come out a protest against the government? You(2face) calling people out? You (2face) know what you have done to people and now you are calling them out, he must be joking. He is never concerned about collective people, he is just concerned about himself. He can't just be mobilizing people, nah nah nah, that is a fraud.

LIB: What is your reaction to the Professor that called out 2face over his Protest against the Govt?

A professor, you mean a professor called him out and you think he is daft? We need to call a spade a spade. I know you guys are going write a lot of negative stuff about me that I said he shouldn't lead such protest. But what am saying is that nobody should use the manipulative mind to tell people to come out for something that is not worth it. That is wrong.

LIB: Don't you think 2face is a leader in the society and will be able to convince the government with the protest?

Let me tell you something. Does 2face Idibia have a fruitful foundation? No, Does 2face Idibia have anything that has to do with Benue State? No! Let me tell you something now. Emma Ugolee is in the hospital. If somebody is a front runner what is he supposed to do? 2face is supposed to be able to mobilize people to figure out a way to raise money for Ugolee 's hospital's bill. If I want to do that, the radio and TV are not going to listen to me. You guys have to come out straight. I don't know what will happen after it but we don't have to do no protest. Let us get our mind straight, they should stop that and stop manipulating people's mind.

Christianity EtcSuleiman’s Invitation May Plunge Nigeria Into Religious War – Rights Group by ipreach(op): 1:03pm On Jan 29, 2017
The Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption, FHRAC, has warned the Department of State Services, DSS against plunging Nigeria into wars.

FHRAC National President, Alaowei Cleric Esq handed down the warning in statement following the reported invitation of the founder of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleiman to the DSS office in Abuja on Monday.

The cleric described the invitation of Suleiman by the DSS after its botched arrest recently as a “clear witchhunt”.

“The DSS should not stoop so low to venture into such dangerous journey which end will only help to create religious crisis. Our Constitution forbids placing one religious practice above the other ones.”

“The move by the DSS to arrest the man of God just because he expressed his feelings on the marauding invasions of the Fulani Herdsmen against Christians in the country is a clear attempt to murder freedom of speech apparently to engender religious bigotry”, he declared.

”Those handlers of Government institutions should be careful of their actions in order not to plunge the country into an anarchical crisis.

“The DSS should not turn itself to an arm of one religious body in the land to perpetrate religious crisis. Nigeria belongs to both Christian and Muslim faithfuls in the country and so no Christian leader should be made the scapegoat for expressing his ill feelings towards the Fulani Herdsmen’s brigandage.

“We pray that the DSS should not by act or omission instigate religious crisis between Christians and Muslims in the country”, he added.

He called on well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the DSS to rescind its decision on Suleiman.
