Hi everyone, I've been away from the thread but not away from the gym and my plan. I am now down to 76Kg my goal is 74KG or less. Log for today: Breakfast: 1 cup of tea (1 tea spoon of honey, light milk) and 1 small slice of yam,1 fried egg in very little oil plus lots of onions and tomatoes Lucnh: 1 small piece of cake (it is my boss birthday) Dinner: nothing yet but plan to eat a fist-size of pounde yam, egusi+bitterleaf soup and croaker fish No fruit or vegetable today, I ran out of supply! ![]() I have been doing an average of 40 minutes on the treadmill plus 30 minutes squash practice 5 time each week consistently. I understand squash game is a great weight to loose weight and keep it off forever. Well done everyone |
tolupe1: My own question is dt......how much do u think a low key/moderate wedding would cost for naija now? Not ova d top,nt tacky bt just borderline moderate......thk u.@Tolulope read my post above for a guide on cost. It all depend on your aspiration and your family composition. You can have a 'low budget' ceremony for 50K or 500K or 5million; everything depends on you and your intended spouse and your parents. |
Thank you JohnDoe100. I guess I will have to roll with your idea. ![]() |
Nigerian weddings are funded by the groom, bride and both families (writing from the Yoruba perspective). The ceremony can be elaborate or low-key depending on these numbers of factors: 1. The aspirations of the couple (whether they both wanted a low-key ceremony or flamboyant one) 2. How rich the parents are and their aspirations too 3. How rich the couple are 4. How social the couple are 5. How social the parents of the couple are If the couple are highly social with lots of friends it may be difficult for them to have a low-key wedding likewise if any of the parent is social too. You can imagine a situation where the couple want a low-key wedding but one of the parent is a socialite; he or she will just invite his/her committe of friends and your low-key ceremony will dissappear! ![]() If you both decided to have a low-key marriage and you are lucky to both come with families that are not so big and influential then with serious planning you can achieve that. We went to the registry during the week (Thursday) with only 6 people (both parents and our friends), no party; My friend and my siblings cooked the meal and we all ate after the ceremony (bride's parent home). Our (traditional) wedding was low-key but quality on a low budget. We had one year to plan for the day. Our target was 50 guests or less. We wanted very few guest that will be well catered for within our budget. The venue was the front of my Father's house (we used three canopies to provide shade). -I designed our Invitation cards in conjunction with a graphic artist because I want a very unique and memorable card, I did the printing myself to safe cost. We made 50 cards that we did not even exhaust! -plan the menu by consulting with Chefs at some high brow restaurant and eventually settled for (Shredded beef and Shredded Chicken with Fried rice or Jollof rice, For traditional meal Croaker fish stew, Pounded yam, Amala, Semovita, Vegetable and Ewedu, 5 cartons of juice, 2 cartons of malt and 2 crates of coca cola, 5 cartons of Bottled water). One Photographer and a video man to cover the event. The Food budget was N45,000 (i.e. 15 portions each of the rice menu while the traditional was 10 portions each) I think back then we spent about N70,000 on food, drinks, video, photograph and IV. Food was cooked and supplied by a caterer at the agreed fee so no issue of off-budget spending or pilferage. Food was also delivered on time with professional presentation and service. - We got two Yoruba traditional drummers to play during the singing and dancing for (N2,000) - The ceremony was planned for 3 hours (10am to 1pm) but trust in-laws with 'African' timing we spent 5 hours (12 to 5pm). - We were very strict with the invitation and also got the cooperation of our families. We only invited very close friends and family members, no colleagues etc We both hate the idea of buying Aso-Ebi for a lower amount and re-selling at a higher price to guests. Our Aso Ebi was simple and were even given out below the market price because we got it at wholesale price (Cap for men Ipele & gele for ladies on any white material that you have). Everyone ate to their satisfaction and the ceremony went very well. I think with careful planning you can achieve a low key wedding if that is your aspiration but agreement with all the parties concern is very paramount. ![]() |

Hi, I am looking for a decent thrift store in Lagos where I can get rid of our old stuff in exchange for some cash or for newer items. I am a semi pack-rat. I find it difficult to throw away stuff that I believe may be useful someday or that their usefulness have not expire. I am talking about stuff like old colour-TV, old sound system, old fans, pressing iron, gas cooker, furniture, dresses, shoes, bags bedding etc. I used to donate dresses & shoes to Red cross and Orphanage but what do you with the other stuff. ![]() Do you have any idea on where I can locate a thrift store in Lagos where such things could be sold to earn some cash? ![]() Do you have any experience in getting rid of old stuff that you and your family don't need any more? How did you manage it? ![]() I very much would like to hear from fellow Nairalanders. |

Hi everyone, You guys are doing a wonderful job encouraging each other. I want to join you too. I have tried every method to loose weight all to no avail but the only method that work is exercise and diet. In July my weight was 85KG (height 5ft 8" I was alarmed; my dress did not fit me again and I have poor coordination. On Doctor's advice, I registered in a gym. I usually workout for 1 hour daily. I have also taken the control of my feeding; say no to unhealthy snacks and junk, eat more veggies and fruits. Now my weight is 79KG but my target is 72KG. So far today I have only taken 3 bananas and a can of Malta Guiness (breakfast). Let's keep encouraging each other! |

Start a blog! You can write on any topic you are knowledgeable in and drop links on facebook, nairaland, twitter etc You may also post stories from other sites lke news media etc to pull crowd/drive traffic to your blog. If your blog becomes popular with lots of traffic then you start selling advert space to businesses! You can also sell things online, dealfish, ebay, etc All the best! |
gidiMonsta: The fact that you choose to hurl insults at me rather than bring up a counter argument to the points I raised shows your level of bias and bigotry. How about 'What part of the laws of Federal Republic of Nigeria permits the CBN to grant licence to a religious bank (that will charge no interest)' Kindly educate us since you are knowledgeable in the act establishing the Islamic bank Jaiz. ![]() |
Happy birthday to you Femi on clocking 50!!!!! ![]() May God grant you many more fruitful years ahead! I think it is now time to reduce the quantity of ganja and women ![]() |
I sympathise with the shop owners and shoppers especially if they are not inform or it is not part of the deal. However, looking at how central the mall is to the Ikeja/Alausa business units the State Government (or whoever is the owner of the mall ) could still charge a token for parking with some flexibility .For example, 1st 1 hour could be free while additional hours could be from N50. This will be better than their current N200/hour. Surulere Parking lot for Shoprite it is N100 per hour. |
It is time that we prove this event With time , we would all know whether it is a case of pot calling the kettle black or truely heroic move by either Otedola or Lawan ![]() |
@man.j This is really so traumatic! I pray that God grant you a second chance but above all grant you mercy and PEACE for your troubled soul. ![]() |
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is very dangerous and not recommended again for food seasoning. Please read the article below and if still in doubt visit WHO page. However, it will surprise you to know that most of the alternative food seasonings like Knorr, maggi etc also contains MSG. Apart from the harmful effect of MSG it also have addictive tendency i.e. it makes you to eat more! . I always advise people who use maggi, knorr etc to use them sparingly because of the MSG content ![]() Monosodium Glutamate MSG Health Dangers and Side Effects of Toxic Additives[ http://www.resourcesforlife.com/docs/item1225 |

Good for Blackberry! As for me I just dropped their 9700 for Galaxy Tab 10.1. I have used two 9700 within 8 months, 1st one crashed and was not recoverable so I bought a new one less than 6 months 2nd one screen went blank. Since I crossed over to Tablet I have been asking myself why I did not make the change earlier. BB is just too expensive with limited facilities and the Nigeria hype does not help with everyone pinging ![]() If they do not reduce their acquisition prices and BIS plan prices I doubt if they will be able to sustain the hype! They should target the youth especially undergraduates! |

Phone for a young child especially 10 years is kind of risky. ![]() If we are talking about Lagos Nigeria as opined by Sisi Kill then you may not need to give your child a phone provided you have: a driver or Housekeeper who pick your kid from school or look after them after school or your kid join the school bus You have a function-able land-line at home. @MrBronwJay and Zim Drill With the risk of kids sex-ting (sending romantic text messages and sometimes nude pictures to each other) I will strongly advice against mobile phone until your child is a teenager by which time you would have done a lot of sex education and he/she is mature enough. Here is what we do: home land-line is progammed to automatically dial mummy after 5 seconds of lifting the handle and with a tab dial daddy after 10 seconds. The land-line cannot dial any other number except the emergency numbers & our numbers and cannot receive any other calls except in the evenings and mornings. These has help us to curtail abuse of phones by our kids and also to ensure that we can talk to them and confirm they are okay and home after school. They can also call us anytime at home and we can reach them too. School can be contacted in case of emergency. The kids have also memorized our numbers and home address in case of emergency |
