May president GEJ and senate presido, David Mark help solve this discrimination against poly HND graduates. This discrimination has driven a lot of poly graduates from the polytechnic system into the university system even when it was not necessary, but because of fear of being looked down at in the society. Those of us that were previledged to study in both poly and uni can speak better without bias about the merits and demerits of both institutions. The university system can not score excellent in all aspects, there are lapses in the uni system too. The poly system has a better and robust curriculum than the university because of its technical nature . |

faithin9ja: Are these military people not Nigerians? not the military that cannot contain BH? Military that cannot protect our borders, the officers drinking in officer mess, they are any better than any of us?They no longer have the time to sit and drink in the mess again because of BH. Most of them are out in the field for one operation or the other. I still believe the military guys are better and more intelligent than the bunch of clueless crooks ruling nigeria now. |
Let govt give attention to technical/vocational education like madam NOI rightly said. |
TheShopKeeper: A big fat no to militocracy in nigeria, we don't need them.We need them now, and soonest because the north of nigeria is fast becoming like the north of Mali. Only the military can help nigerians because GEJ and co. are clueless on what to do. |
hardbody: U simply echoed my mind. It has often been said that the worst civillian regime is better than the best military dictatorship.much as this cliche might sound logical, I think it is simply an issue of semantics. At best, it represents the general rule. For every general rule, there is always an exception. Nigeria's case has become an exception to this rule. It has never been this bad and it will only get worse. Ghana made a u turn after the Rawlings bloody revolution, we can toe that line. As for war, military incursion need not necessarily lead to war, it wount in Nigeria at least. We need a robotic disciplinary regime to beat all back on track. Does anyone here remember Idiagbon/Buhari regime? With WAI et al? Nigeria almost then got it right, let's go back to that era. Many will be imprisoned many will die but the present and future generation will be the better for it. I have spoken.Bro, i agree with u. Those who still believe in this Nigerian democracy need to go for psycho treatment or see TB Joshua for psycho healings. We really need changes, and if these changes can be brought about by the military then may it come to pass in Jesus' name. We can't wait for BH to kill all christains and southerners before we know that GEJ and co. are not capable of protecting the lives and properties of law abiding nigerians. |

I don't know why govt keep playing with technical education in nigeria. It is even a crime now to go to a polytechnic in nigeria, with the university graduates claiming superiority. Let's look at the educational divide, that is, polytechnic and university educational systems the same way we have denominations in christianity; that is, catholic and protestant. Can we now say the protestants are superior to the catholics? Or that the catholics are superior and better than protestants? Why and how? |
jason123: In Rivers, we basically have two ethnic groups, Ikwerri and IjawHow comes it's basically just 2? Where did u put Ogoni? Did u classify the igbos that are not ikwerre under ikwerre? I mean people from Ahoada, Omoku, Etche Egbema, Ndoni, etc. |
I have said it times without number that the discrimination against HND holders was created by university Degree holders in government. Presently in nigeria, a dull university graduate has an edge over a skillful polytechnic graduate in terms of securing a govt job. |
Any uni that cannot run PG programmes is short of being called a university. It is better called a degree awarding institution or simply a college. |
Orikinla: Lest we continue to deceive ignorant Nigerians, majority of these so called universities do not have qualified lecturers and they also lack the facilities. In fact they are not even as good as high schools in the United States of America. Many of the pupils from the top private schools in Nigeria like Corona and Atlantic Hall have been found to be more educated and informed than the graduates of many of these mushroom universities in Nigeria. Are you now saying that some uni are just Degree awarding institutions, and some poly and college of edu are better than them? |
This NUC sef with their wahala. What concerns them with PG programmes again? Any institution that has been approved to function as a university is believed to have Msc holders, PhD holders and profs in their various faculties to run both undergraduate and atleast Masters programmes. PhD programmes is what they should regulate because they need a team of experienced associate profs and profs to run such. Are they in any way implying that some universities are not supposed to be universities? |
Is it that nobody here also watched NTA Benin programme "Hotel de Jordan"? Some of the characters were Kokori, Idemudia, Chief Ajas, etc. Sam Loco was also one of those who featured in that programme. Make una talk na, no be only me be old man here o. Laffing! |
nenepea: Adio's family, Bassey & Company "Madam the Madam, it is a matter of cash"You sef don tey like us. Na NTA channel 10 PH I watched all these in the 80's. |
I can still remember Pot of life, Hotel de jordan, and Willi-Willi. |
nitrogen: Please expantiate.Bros are u not a nigerian? I can't expantiate by typing my words. But very brief, with money one can get the logistics and skills to venture into business as a consultant in IT, Research & Statistics. |
nitrogen: Is it okay/possible for a recent graduate(first degree) without experience to start a firm? With money all things are possible. But truely u need to gather some experience before venturing into such. |
yamakuza: kindly expand on this. thanks!Meaning if he's good in computing or statistics he can set up a consulting outfit and sell his products and services to those who would need them. |
This things have been planned long ago. Why do u think the fulani man who is IGP removed police check points on our highways? It's for easy movement and passage of weapons and easy way of attacking xtains and southerners without being noticed. Let's ask for our check points to be returned back. |
Adetayo100: Why are all these herdsmen allowed to carry dangerous weapon like bow and arrow, sword roaming everywhere.Try moving around ur vicinity with ur small pistol or double barrel and see. There is need for govt to give a proper definition of a dangerous weapon in nigeria; because that of the fulani is seen as part of their culture and nobody harrasses them; while that of others, like southerners who prefer to hold guns is seen as a big crime. |
Wily+Wily:I thought it was only kwara and kogi o! |
You can also be self employed. Equip urself with computing and statistical skills and start a small consulting firm. Regards. |
deleo16: every year thousand of youth flock jamb office all in the name to a be a graduate after 4 years or 5years that they will later be thrown in the labour market in which few will end up getting a job security while some will be left to further , so as to get a better or lucrative job, the school knows that not all can have a good grade to fight for outside even those that have the grade where is the Job here in nigeria, where unemployment is always on the rise hitting 21% or more . my Question is why cant the school curriculum be change to meet up with todays changing technology, more pratical and entrepreneurship skill in your field of passion.or is it compulsory that everbody goes to univeristy?www.kobostart.com/sucess-motivation/university-education-is-way-so-overated-why-my-children-will-not-go-to-university-if-i-have-my-way/?wpmp_tpPolytechnic education is what nigeria and nigerians need presently for economic and technological growth. Unfortunately this is the type of education they look down at. |
Where are you guys? We still need ur contributions. |
johnsonadex: I really appreciate ur response. If u look @ my previous txt u will discovered dat there is neva a time i mentioned dat poly graduate were inferior to uni graduate, i av a lot of friend wit HND & i knw their worth. One love brother. |
Never knew Soyinka loved MKO that much. But why is he then against honouring him with the change of name of unilag to maulag? |
johnsonadex: No need to argue wit u again. I can perceived dat u are a fustrated graduate.Let me answer the questions u said i have not answered. Bsc holders like some pple rightly said learn more theory than practical while that of the HND is the reverse. The Bsc guys do theoretical lecturing job while the HND guys instruct students on courses that are applied. (I once lectured as a part time lecturer in Laspotech 10 years ago in the part time school at Ikosi campus in the dept of computer science. I did this with my HND certificate). So, I am talking from experience. For Bursars, they have very strong unions in the uni and poly. In the uni for no technical reason they have barred even HND holders with ICAN from being part of them. Some poly still take HND + ICAN holders to be Bursars. Sometimes these are just obnoxious govt policies enacted by Bsc holders against the HND holders for no just reason; not that the HND holders are not technically fit. This is what we call man's inhumanity to man. Also note that i'm a graduate of a first generation university that is about 50 years of age now, therefore the polytechnic I attended cannot be better than it, even though the poly is one of the biggest & best in nigeria. Finally i want u to agree that poly graduates are as good as uni graduates, and as such should be given opportunities lke the uni graduates especially where technical and applied skills are required. Let's help in creating awareness on this HND/poly thing in our society where we all reside, as this will help solve this age-long perception about polytechnic graduates not being as good as university graduates in nigeria. I'm sorry for using some harsh words in my previous post. No e-fighting again pls. |
nitrogen: And your assertion is backed up with facts or just 'dem say'?? i have learnt to stop making inferences when there are no facts to back them up, note that fact is always preceded by collection, organisation, analysis and presentation of datas. So, maybe you should take to that too and stop ranting. We don't have the data, because it's not available on the internet. It's "dem say"; but remember there is no smoke without fire. |
