GEJ should issue a last warning to all northern governors that if he hears any form of violence coming from their states he will declare a full state of emergency in such states. I bet u no governor would want that to happen to him. The governors will inturn issue warning to all emirs, traditional rulers, and religious leaders in their states that they risk being removed from their thrones and jailed if anything bad happens in their domains. This ones will inturn issue same last warning to all district heads and religious leaders and it gets down to the family level for each head of family to control their wards or else risk being arrested and jailed if any of their wards are caught. If this is done without fear or favour it will help in bringing an end to this BH madness. Adequate security should be provided for those who expose BH members they know. These BH members live with the locals but they are scared to report them cos of what might happen to them and their family members. |
tanimola22: Thank you. I was trying to remember algebraic and differential topology and lie algebra.Honestly, there are some important aspects of statistics we did in the polytechnic that we never did or only did little in the university. Operational research courses, econometrics, experimental design, industrial stats, and stats computing were better taught to me in the polytechnic than in the university. Try and get a copy of the NBTE course curriculum for statistics and compare with that of NUC, you will see the similarities and differences. Nigerian polytechnic system is just too good, unfortunately nigerians have been looking down at it. |
GboyegaD: What school did you finish your HND from?a polytechnic in nigeria. |
tanimola22: Thank you. I was trying to remember algebraic and differential topology and lie algebra. That's ok. I like people like u. Let's always keep in touch. |
tanimola22: Yes, the mathematics courses you stated are a must for statistics majors. But I did much heavier type of mathematics, something that many statistics students would find useless. I did the likes of group theory, ring theory, measure theory, functional analysis, complex analysis, further real analysis, algebra and some other courses I can't remember again. These are the main, the main pure mathematics courses. I even went further to take applied mathematics courses like vectors, tensors and mechanics. I took mechanics for 4 solid semesters until I just got tired and focused on statistics. My guy u try. All those pure maths courses like ring theory, measure theory, topology, etc were courses done by mathematics students alone, while those of us in statistics were doing advanced stats courses like experimental design, quality control, multivariate analysis, probability theory, etc. Mathematics is the best subject for mankind. So what are u into now? Me, i'm an ex-banker, but self-employed now as a statistical consultant. |
tanimola22: Yeah, I combined it with pure math.b4 nko? Can u ever do statistics without pure maths? That's why u do so many maths courses like linear algebra, trig & geometry, calculus, D.E., mathematical mthds, etc. Very interesting course. |
tanimola22: Interesting. Did you mean that you did more at the polytechnic you attended than at the university you attended? If this is what you mean, then I flow with your point. Otherwise, I am very afraid of your premise and conclusion. In aggregate, there are more than 60 universities and more than 20 polytechnics in naija. The same statistics has taught me never to make sweeping statements, unless of course I have studied at more than 50% of these universities and more than 50% of these polytechnics.u're correct. Are u also a statistician? |
tanimola22: Some posts here make me wonder. Some of us speak as if we have extensively visited or studied at both types of institutions.i studied statistics up to HND at the polytechnic and also did a Bsc statistics in the university. I can truely tell u that we did more in the polytechnic than in the uni both in theory and practicals. |
GboyegaD: Same mistake people make. The emphasis by HND holders about their degree being superior to the BSc is what makes the BSc holder believe he is superior because if you are, you do not fight for supremacy. I get angry seeing such comparison often times because I think what people should strive for is to be recognised as an excellent person irrespective of your degree or its class.my friend, i have attended both schools and i know how people in the uni who have never been to the polytechnic b4 say about poly being inferior. This is not true as the poly guys in courses like acctng, biz admin, marketing, statistics, etc. do better than their uni counterparts. The truth is when i was moving to the university, i moved with my poly notes and other materials and they were very useful to me. University education in nigeria at undergraduate level is very faulty. |
HND holders, your training and skills are worth more than a Bsc degree. U have what it takes to be self employed. Try and create jobs by urself and employ even the Bsc guys to work for u. For those thinking that the HND is inferior to the Bsc, don't even think of it. U can't compare a nigerian polytechnic HND acctancy graduate with a nigerian Bsc acctng graduate; the HND graduate at anytime is better equipped with the needed acctng skills than the Bsc graduate. |
Let nigerians becareful with what they say about Farouk Lawal or do to him. BH boys are watching o. Or have we suddenly 4gotten that he is a brother to the Boko's? Will they allow their broda to be disgraced? Let's watch out for the next episode. |
My broda it is very bad. HND graduates are good but they made to look like mediocres. |
If the HND graduates can have enough knowledge and skills to pass ICAN exams does that not mean that the HND Acctancy is as good as the Bsc Accting? |
Between certificates and skills, which does the country need to move forward technologically? |
osram: Makarantan yan iskait's unfair of u to talk this way. If u didn't finish from there why not leave them alone? Stop calling them deregatory names. Rimi (St. John's College) Kaduna was one of the best schools in kaduna until govt and hausas decided to spoil it. I have a friend that finished that 88/89, Peter Michael. He later studied biological sciences in ABU Zaria. |
I believe COREN and NSE are not even taking the practice of engineering seriously in nigeria. What a country. |
I support the moves, let GEJ release him; but with the condition that Boko Haram must stop killing christians; else he will be taken back to prison. |
adevicks: Where is your source of info? Present the stats (e.g. No of unis and poly grads enrolled and those who qualified, say over the last 10 years) and we know where to start from.No source broda, it's "dem say". I want to find out from Accountants if this is true. I have equally seen the quality in HND Acctancy graduates, they are better and more skillful than the Bsc Acctng graduates. I have worked with them before. May be it's a fluke. |
I don't know about Msc economics, but i'm sure u can go in for Msc Agric Economics. I have a friend with a Bsc Agric doing Msc Agric Econs presently. |
If good jobs actually exist, then u have the same chance as other graduates in economics, statistics, comp sc, physics, engineering, sociology, education, bus admin, etc. in getting jobs that requires just a degree in any discipline. I still advice u to get some professional skills that can make u self-employed. |
tanimola22: At the end of the day, it is demand that determines the prices of most goods. Even the best of things, if the demand for them is low, then it is just a matter of time, their prices will come down. This explains why many Russian ladies have no guy to call their own even though these girls are crazily hot and are capable of making some ladies elsewhere look unfortunate.Yes, i'm flowing with u. Is the demand and supply for quality or quantity? I still need u to talk more on this issue. |
Businesstools: What ICAN records are you talking about?Where is the source? No official record, it's "dem say" from friends that read Acctng and Acctancy. That's one of the reasons i need ur contributions and opinions so as to thrash the issue nicely and get the truth out of it. |
For those who think that HND certificate is not equivalent to/ or better than a Bachelor Degree; how comes HND Accountancy graduates do better in ICAN exams than Bsc Accounting graduates? ICAN records show that most HND Acctancy graduates pass and qualify as chartered Acctants more easily than Bsc Acctng graduates. Pls let's get ur opinion on this. |

Most part of PH were originally Ikwerre villages; like rumuomasi, rumuola, rumuobiakani, rumuokoro, rumuokuta, rumuokwurushi, ogunabali, woji, choba, etc. Places like borokiri and Town (harbour road, creek road, and the old G.R.A. Area) are where ijaw, kalabari, nembe, etc settled. |
x-razzy:I agree with u. May be cramming works in MAULAG, but in ABU no way. You will spill and splash, and finally graduate with a 3rd class or pass. |

berem: gbam! end of discussion. MAULAG students should better get their arses back to school before GEJ changes the name of the school again to DANA UNIVERSITY!I can bet this wit anything, the students will prefer DANA to Moshood Abiola. Cant u see that it's the name that they don't like and not MKO in person? DANA sounds sweet and easy to call than those funny yoruba names like Moshood. The name of the school sounds like one islamiyya school. I can now feel what UNILAG students, lecturers, and alumni are feeling. E KPELE O! |
Good moves by Dr. Ebelema Jonathan. |
Okimski: Please i need a reply, i graduated with a pass in Geology which school can i do PGD to upgrade my result. Cos most schools don't accept Pass in PGD programmei know of somebody with HND pass grade that just finished his PGD in banking & fin. (PGDBF) from ABU. |
domack99: I personally think there are better way to Immortalise Abiola, infact there is a school name after him already. Using Unilag, a school located in south west of the country seems sectional, while not Abuja or better still ABU to indicate strong unity in Nigeria.See ur mouth. Is ABU not a uni in the north named after Sir Ahmadu Bello? U want it changed again to MKO? Why are u people rejecting MKO now? Is he not adored by u yorubas again? |
meforkene: For all those that don't sEe a problem with this...think of their certificates now..they'll carry MOSHOOD ABIOLA UNi certificates outside this country right..plain stupid name..it will drag them graduates down!Their graduates are already down, it won't be because of the change of name. |

Okay, okay, let's don't say they are mad until we get a cogent reason.
