The purpose of the prayer request is also important. God is a spirit and he knows the intent of our heart.

There are a lot more reasons why prayer don't get answered by God. To start off on th right path of getting your prayers answered, start studying th word of God daily (this is fellowship with God). Listen to all he asks us to do and not to do and amend your life accordingly. Studying the word of God will help cleanse and make your spirit stronger and your prayer more potent.

But since I am a weak agnostic (our philosophical stance is that: there's no sufficient knowledge in form of evidence to determine the existence of a creator now, we may find out in future), I don't think it's inappropriate to discredit or accept something that we do not have sufficient knowledge about. So I think it's inappropriate for theists accepting it and atheists rejecting it.

Athiests should reject the existence of a god on the basis that they have sufficient knowledge that all forms of gods don't exist.
