Many christians including you think the first birth is when we were born to this world and when we accept Jesus we become born again!

But the bible said in John 3:6 (KJV): That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

They have no connection at all! It means the first birth is a spiritual birth and the second birth is also a spiritual birth.

John 3:5-6: 5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, (E)unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is (F)flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.

Notice that Jesus was addressing Nicodemus, a Jewish Sanhedrin (teacher of the law). All Jews at the time were born into God's kingdom at mout Sinai through Moses which is basically the old covenant God had with the Jews, which is their first spiritual birth.

Nicodemus being a teacher of the Jews should have been familiar with God's promise of a new covenant as prophesied in the book of Jeremiah and other prophets

That's why verse 10 chastised him:

10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?

For the Jews to now enter the new covenant they must be "born again", just like the first birth at mout Sinai, but this time they'll be born of water and spirit.

So technically if you're not a Jew or proselyte you can't be born again because you have not been born into God's household the first time.

What about non-jews who wants to gain salvation? The bible also talked about the new birth in 2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

Galatians 6:15: For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.
