Ladies ad gentlemen, it's official, there is fire on the mountain: Super Eagles failed to qualify for Nations Cup three times in 4 consecutive editions. This is the same Nations Cup in which qualification was never our issue, the same Nations Cup that semi final (minimum) was our birthright. Here we go again. Eagles faltered on big occasion. Anyway, I still struggled to rate the players. 1. AKPEYI: Did well, especially in aerial balls, stopping a couple of goal-bound shots, but he could have done better in that goal, although he expected the defenders to be able to intercept that ball. But for that goal, had a good game. 5.5/10 2. ABDULLAHI: Not sure he is a Super Eagles material - at least yet. Didn't add much to the game. Faltered a couple of times. No sensible crosses or play with winger as expected of a full back. Alongside Ambrose, failed to intercept the ball that got into the net eventually. 3/10 3. AMUZIE: Again, struggled with Salah's speed. Also doesn't look like Super Eagles' material yet. 3/10 4. AMBROSE: Once again, failed to live to expectation as one that plays for a decent European club. Weak, defensively; poor link with midfield. 3/10 5. OBOABONA: Not seen much. Appeared to have lost confidence. Struggled with Egyptian forward. Poor clearing. 3/10 |
We don't deserve to win this game. How can a team play 70 minutes without signle shot on target. |
Echiejile in. Although also not so useful defensively. His use is more for attack. Let's hope his experience counts in holding Salah. |
Yet again, our defence is shaky. Our midfield trying, but they're lacking urgency. Too slow. |
Expectedly, the Egyptians are playing with more confidence and more daring. Compared to their largely defensive and cautious game in Nigeria. This is their home. |
Fynestboi:Tight, keenly contested one. Good job, both. |
Echiejile should start ahead of Amuzie. On this big game, experience counts. I also think Moses should start ahead of Musa and Onazi ahead of Etebo, then we're good to go. Ighalo was going too deep into their defence, he needs to withdraw to close to the midfield more and play one-two with his attacking partners. It was obvious the Egyptians had a game plan to mark him out and it worked. I expected Siasia to change tactics when he realised that and send Ighalo to the wing. This is what Emenike does, when the one-man attack isn't working. |
Ezerbullet:No wahala. Thx. |
2009. During the search for Mrs Jarus. I was going to Minna, Niger state, to check on a potential Mrs Jarus. I don't like keeping cash with me, so just withdrew 20k at the Lagos MMIA ATM and used 17k to pay for Lagos-Abuja ticket. I got to Abuja airport and tried withdrawing more cash for continuation of my journey by road to Minna. Na so GTB ATM dey tell story. I thought it was a temporary thing and felt it would be fine before I got to the park. I got an airport cab that charged me 3500. Although I had 3k with me, I was sure the ATM would be working before I got to our destination: Utako park. We got to the park and I entered the nearest bank, a Zenith Bank, to withdraw more money, give the cab man 3500, used the remaining as fare to Minna etc. Same story: can't withdraw. I was sweating, lamenting, calling my friends in GTB to tell them the mess GTB had put me into in Abuja. A friend that worked in their Head Office contacted their IT and they gave him feedback that it was ageneral issue they're fixing on that Saturday. I was raking on, raising voice against my GTB friends as if they were the ones responsibility. The taxi man collected the 3k left with me and left short of 500. I was still lamenting in front of the bank, trying the ATM every 3 minutes. 1 hour, 2 hours, no show. I had no dime left with me. I narrated my ordeal to the bank security guy who saw me apprehensive, and he offered to give me 1k. Abuja-mInna was 800 so I used the 1k to pay for fare and had 200 left on me. I got to Minna likee 2 hours later and I headed straight to the nearest ATM. It worked! I returned to Abuja next day en route Lagos, but because I was rushing to catch my flight, couldn't go to the Utoko park to thank nd refund the bank guy. On my next visit to Abuja like 2 months later, I went to that Zenith branch to thank the guy and refund him. He wasn't on duty that day, but his friend on duty collected it and gave him next day. I think he called |
Your guys try o. I dont think I can attempt killing a snake. I will run away. Moved to my new place in December and between then and now, we have seen 2 snakes and 1 alligator in our compound. The way I speed whenever I need to go out in the night ehnn... |
Ezerbullet:You can actually disagree with my rating without calling it silly. There is something called being cultured. |
princemi:Even if Nigeria is in the one playing (eg World cup, Olympics, and age grade competitions that are global), the way those foreign competitor demonstrate knowledge of Nigerian football, you will be proud. But our own commentators, nonsense. |
princemi:I don't listen to Nigerian commentators. As a matter of fact, I prefer foreign commentators for even Nigerian matches. The way those guys (foreign commentators) draw facts and parallels with ease are amazing. Makes football watching interesting. |
SUBS 12, UMAR - The number 12 added some bite to the attack when he came on board. He also did some decent two-on-one. He had a daring shot at goal. I think he justified his inclusion. 6/10 13, V. MOSES - Gave reasons why he should have started ahead of Musa. Added more bite to our attack with daring runs. Proved a handful to the Egyptian defenders. He should have hit the ball harder to score what would have been SE's second goal, but he couldnt ahve known teh defender would still have been able to clear the ball - or maybe he had run too much to hit the ball better. Whatever be the case, he had a decent game. 6.5/10 14, IWOBI - The youngster completed the allowable substitution number. He also showed some flashes for the few minutes he played and contributed to the trio of Moses and Umar running ring around the Egyptian defence in the final minutes in search of a second goal that never came. A decent show. 6/10 SIASIA: - Good line-up and good substitution, but he should have known better to tell his players to defend the only goal in the dying minutes. He appeared confident his boys were going away with victory. 6/10 Overall, I don't think this team is bad. They just need to play more and know when to jealously guard an advantage as Ghanaian players do (You hardly come from behind against Ghana. They will rather die on the field). This generational tendency for SE to lose concentration when it mattered most is still very much around. lalasticlala - 10/10 |
6, ETEBO - The number 4 man showed some class, but he still needs to play more with Mikel to show some sync. He was daring and his goal, though a tap-in, wasn't as easy as people may think. He used one leg to bock the on-rushing Egyptian defender and used the other to tap in. Decent game. 6/10 7, MIKEL - Played his traditional role of being the stabilizer. Showed good leadership. But he appeared to be at a loss with his fellow midfielders sometimes. His long supplies to the attackers weren't as productive, but his short balls were helpful in maintaining possession. 7/10 8, MUSA - An off day yet again for the CSKA man. His last good game for Nigeria was against Argentina. As someone that plays UCL every season, one would have expected more from this man especially in finesse. His final balls were poor. Yes, he had one or two shots at goals, but the highlight of his game was the ones he didn't play well. His crosses were far from what you expect from a number 7. Needs to be more consistent. 4/10 9, S. MOSES - No doubt a good dribbler, but needs to play to the gallery less. A decent game. 5/10 10, IHENACHO: - Used as supporting striker/attacking midfielder. Was largely quiet for the first half, but later came out blazing. His shot that hit the bar set the tone for our only goal. Didnt get much balls, but looked deadly the few times he had ball. Not a bad game, although we expected more. 6/10 12, IGHALO: The jury is still out on whether he will be a club-only player. There appears to be no sync between him and the midfielders, and even his fellow forwards. I think coaches need to derive a model for him at trainings to get more of him. He doesn't appear to be at striker that can play lonely upfront. Maybe Siasia should find an Ideye for his Emenike. Yet, he showed some flashes the very few times he had ball. 5/10 |
Yet again, Super Eagles bungled a golden opportunity to move to the top of the group due to lack of character when succeeding and loss of concentration. Obviously, Eagles had more of the ball than the Pharaohs, but poor conversion and inability to read game led tro cheap loss of 2 points. Anyway, let me do my thing as Super Eagles official player rater. ![]() 1, IKEME - Didn't see much of action in the first third as the Eagles took the game to the Pharaohs in the opening actions. He was tested a couple of time still, and did well. The goal wasn't his fault as any fool would have scored that one on one. 6/10 2, AMBROSE: - Predictable game: move the ball, cut, balloon the ball unproductively. His forays forward weren't helpful to the attack. His defence was even poorer. Yet he was the most lively of the back 4. Gave the ball away needlessly. 4.5/10 3, OBOABONA: - Not the Oboabona of 2013 that we thought was the futurer of SE defence. Not so assertive. Quiet most times. His confidence has waned seriously. 4/10 4, AWUZIE: - Also quite active at the backline and showed some confidence. Poor offside sense. Still needs to do more before he becomes convincing. 4/10 5, SHEHU ABDULLAHI - Did decently, but still has more work to do on his final ball. Showed some confidence. 5/10 |
One of the very few articles by Nigerian bloggers with no embarrassing grammatical howler. Good job op. I agree with most of you said. JarusHub, my blog, is now almost a household name that everywhere we go, we also get to meet someone that follows us. Trying to open a bank account with GTB recently and the bank officer told us, "so you guys are the owner of JarusHub. I will personally take up the opening of this account". Anytime I give my card as Founder of JarusHub, 2 out of every 3 persons that receive it, tell me they are aware of it before. |
Mediapace:Super Eagles have not scored 5 goaals in a match since vs Liberia in 2012. |
Difficult to lie about age in the West. Meanwhile, some folks would have sworn that he iis not 20. |
Reading this and passing through the spot. . Took this shot now. The bus being evacuated now.

1, A business can be operating and be conducting activities without being registered. These are usually small businesses and operators here are generally called informal sector. 2, A business can be registered without being incorporated, if it's not a company. Registration as sole proprietorship, enterprise, business name, partnership etc. 3, Incorporation is the formal registration process for a company. It is only a COMPANY that is incorporated. 4, A business can first register as a business name (I.e registered but unincorporated) and decide to incorporate (I.e become a company) later. 5, A business can be registered, incorporated or just a business name (unincorporated business) and not having any operations, I.e idle, dormant registered business. 6, A company might be established in 2006 and later on, say in 2012, merged with a company incorporated in 1960. The new enlarged company can use the 1960 incorporation date. So these are the dynamics. Whichever you want to use as year of establishment depends on your purpose. However, I don't think you can use number 1 as year of establishment for a legal use. |
menix:I also agree he's not proven enough for this hype. |
joseph1013:Thanks. I lost interest in discussing Nigerian football on NL when I realised only very few people join me in the discussion. That's why I'm surprised thread reached 180 pages without me knowing. |
Congrats NSG. I also published my first print book in 2014. Guess what? The first chapter of that book was a Nairaland post on academic success I made in 2008. I later converted that post to a standard article, and it later formed Chapter 1 of my book. |
darkenkach:Did you make a 2.1? Are you below 26? Have you applied to professional services firms, banks etc? Have you written any test? What was your performance if yes? |
Wow, surprised I'm just discovering this thread. Didn't know Nigerians still passionately follow Nigerian players/football like this. |
anonimi:I'm a man. My point is, if you meet me and judge me by my phone or wrist watch, you are likely to marry a bus conductor than me. |
ba7man:Almost same here. I use a palasa phone. One BB I don't even know the name of. I don't use wrist watch except once in a while. |
Dharniel:The guy tried in his use of grammar, at least in this period of serious writing challenge among Nigerians students. |
Oh boy, the way I dey fear now ehn. We don see snake and alligator for my compound in the last one month. |
shogat:You're right. But it's not just a blog, it's a startup that pays close to 1m to rent an office and pay its staff. Definitely, long articles alone won't pay office rent. But your comment is noted all the same. |
I proposed 2 usernames to Seun and he chose Jarus. Both derived from my real name. |
