This is the second person I'm knowing in that accident. A facebook friend posted picture of another victim, Bilqees Lamina, also a Sokoto Corper, in that accident yesterday. Update: It's the same person, just different name combinations. |

IlekeHD:I mentioned oyb as another popular Kwaran here. Yes, I'm a Yoruba and a northerner. Kwara is officially North. |
IlekeHD:Oyb |
Your points are valid, but the biggest factor is underdeveloped private sector. Most of the northern states have nothing outside government jobs. I'm however surprised at Kano and Kaduna, with many companies, banks etc having regional offices there and having decent economy. |
Jonathan my hero, temtemi1 my role model. |

Tbliss12:I'm worried about the bolded. |

kaboninc:McKinsey is not in the same class with the Big 4. McKinsey is in higher class called the Top 3 or MBB (McKinsey, Bain and BCG). Those ones are far more different to get job in, than the Big 4. |
juddexy2:After the Big 4, they're one of the next 3. I think they're 5th in Accouting/Auditing services globally. I don't know much about their operations in Nigeria, however. |
Welcomme:Check options here. http://www.jarushub.com/where-to-get-jarus-book-the-road-to-victoria-island/ In addition to the locations listed, it is also available at Lagos Airport (MMA 1) departure hall bookshop. |
tete7000:Yes, you and other Nigerians that don't follow news reports, or started following news yesterday. |
zezebabyxoxo:Internship culture is still underdeveloped in Nigeria. Many companies just don't think of giving students opportunities to learn about the workplace and gain valuable experience even while still in school. We need more companies to take up this challenge. Except in few organized programmes like the debate programme the OP said he won and used as opportunity to intern with KPMG, many companies don't have strong internship structure. Most internship opportunities are by informal contacts in the companies. I sent someone's CV to PwC today for internship opportunities, but I got the feedback that they just brought a batch of interns on board and not thinking of recruiting another batch for now. Not sure I have time to review CV now, but make sure the CV carries your CGPA (which is high). I can only advise you to keep trying and networking. |
CyberWolf:I saw you guys' display of ignorance. I don't respond to such. Since you don't know the difference between Olanrewaju and Oyewale and too lazy to make basic google search before making allegations, such are better ignored. Hence, my decision not to glorify that infantile attribution. |
This guy is mad. Then all the past Presidents of Nigeria who appointed Southerners as INEC Chair were southern sectional leaders too. Nigeria has had like 12 NEC chairman since first republic and none before Jega was a northerner. Can someone also tell him that Yakubu was one the guys GEJ considered for the job in 2011 before settling for Jega. |
Yanks101:I know a 2.2 grad that got Schlum job few years back. |
The major reason why I am eagerly putting these lines carefully is to wake up some of us in the Eastern part of Nigeria, especially those in University of Nigeria. There are lots of opportunities out here. One of the devastating lies I learnt in the school is that there is no job anywhere. Some of our lectures buried us in mediocrity (with due respect). I was pained one day when I shared with a colleague in the office how some of my school guys dream to work in a places like this and do you know what he asked me? “Do people in your school know about us?” It was an innocent and subtle question but he didn’t know I was boiling inside of me already. This write up is resultant from that response. They have the notion that we are not exposedThis was actually what propelled me to float my career blog, JarusHub, in 2013, and wrote my book, The Road to Victoria Island. Lack of access to information is the bane of many Nigerian students and fresh graduates. |
Yanks101:Not exactly. They take 2.1 and First Class. These grades will only get you test invite with them, it doesn't guarantee you automatic test if you fail their test. |
I can relate to this. Save a brief, few months stint at an investment institution, I have had all my career in the oil and gas industry, but I always advise younger folks who want to get the best training in taxation, accounting, auditing, etc to go and start their career in any of the Big 4 (PwC, KPMG, Deloitte and Ernst & Young). These are the best training ground anyone can seek. I remember when I was having a post-interview chat with the COO of an oil company shortly after my NYSC in 2008, she, herself an accountant, asked me why I wanted to start my accounting with them, and not with these Big 4 professional services firms. I kept mute, smiling. Actually, I was undergoing KPMG recruitment at the same time (dumped it for the oil company, which offer came faster). I know virtually everyone in the tax department of KPMG and I think these guys are good professionals. It is no doubt a great training ground. I personally rate PwC #1 in Nigeria, but I think these guys are doing very well. |
26,The List Makers - Like the OP. |
Born on January 1, 1956, Mr. Kifasi was a member of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC;....The emergence of Mr. Kifasi, observers noted, was influenced largely by his closeness and loyalty to the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, believed to be a close ally of the President http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/166686-update-jonathan-appoints-danladi-kifasi-new-head-of-service.htmlI hope it doesn't have anything to do with this. |
Ilekeh:Thanks. Interestingly, the whole thing started from Nairaland. |
Ilekeh:Thanks, Ilekeh. Although we're more of a service startup now than tech company, we hope to be one too. We're still funding it from our pockets (and now has office, staff etc) but wont turn down any investor that comes with mega millions to invest in what we're doing. Mots of these guys got investors. |
Rayman5:Who told you Yakubu was bad? Does missing a goal make one a bad player? Do you know that Yakubu is the 3rd All-time highest goal scorer in the history of Super Eagles? Do you know he scored more than 20 goals for Nigeria? Do you know he scored almost 100 EPL goals making him second only to Drogba as highest scoring African in EPL history. Yakubu wasn't a bad striker. |
No be 2 years ago we called this guy the New Rashidi? Well, smart move in my opinion. After going on like 10 matches without a goal in SE shirt and playing at a backwater league, the handwriting was clear on the wall: He was going to lose SE shirt. He acted swiftly. Yet, we should celebrate him, no matter how short he lasted in the national team. He bailed us out on some occasions and played a very key role in Nigeriaks 2013 AFCON victory. Thank you, Emenike. Meanwhile, your major issue was relying on power alone and making your game predictable. |
Where is JarusHub that is redefining employability skills and career advancement in Nigeria since 2013? |
NL don spoil me. See as I dey find the name. |
YerYer:Neither is Hausa, actually. Buhari's wife is Fulani from Adamawa. Saraki's wife is Yoruba from Lagos. |
