I am from Kwara and understandably interested in Kwara politics. Even if not his big fan, I personally have some liking for Bukola the son. He appears to me quite refined, even if his PDPship gets to his head at times and throws reason to the dogs. I will rate him 5.5/10. That said, it appears the governor's handlers have realized the role of online media in shaping people's opinions and garnishing their man's image. These days, any single step the governor takes, even if he sneezes, I see it on NL. Curiously, all the topics are opened by newbies whose only post may be on that topic, some may have registered just to post that topic. For those that have several posts, like 5-10, check all the posts and tehy are on topics relating to the governor. It is not impossible that these IDs are one and same person. But whether it's one person or many, it is clear to me that Saraki's PR men at doing some work on NL. cold:If every team should be celebrating goal with what it is known for, then when Nigeria scores, somebody should carry computer system and send 419 email. Na somebody talk am for ghanaweb o ![]() |
After matches like this I keep off sports discussion forums, because I go disinterestedly speechless, only to return months after, but I think I still have my voice here. But why is it that other teams use 10 men to beat us (Ghana in 2008, Senegal in 2002, Argentina in 1994) but we cannot use ten men to beat another team? Even after being reduced to ten men,no matter how early, many teams hold their own against oppositions, some even converting it to victory, what excatlly is wrong with Nigeria? oh, I'm really embarrassed. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() while you were typing 29 new replies have been posted ![]() while you were typing again 5 new replies ahve been posted ![]() while you were typing 3 new replies have been posted again ![]() while you were typing 2 new replies ahve been posted agian ![]() while you were typing a new reply has been posted ![]() one more ![]() 2 more ![]() |
[size=40pt]OMG EAGLES WHY WHY WHY WHY DID U DO THIS TO ME! |
Thank God SE did not try to equalize that goal against Argentina o. Maybe we woudl have also gone home with 4-1. Na those Kareans vex them. I see Argentina going far. |
kufreabasi:This is not possible bros. Who will Argies lose to to have 6 pts? Even if they lost to Korea, Korea then have 6 pts. Or do you think people just drop figures here! |
Sagamite: ![]() Bad boy |
Contemplating on skipping my exam just for this matchThings dey tight here too o. I go go awol from ofis 3-5 today. |
otokx:Bros, forget it. This is not possible. yes, I said it. Even if it's an unconvincing, heart-attacking 1-0 victory, SE are winning this one. |

If you read my articles in the national dailies you may think so too.I write in national dailies too, but I don't go beyond what I know, and I know little about the past or current happenings in some parts of the world. For the fact that I did a little of philosophy and politics in school, I should be able to write a page on Karl Marx, or Max Weber or Frederic Engel but I can't do three lines on Stalin, Hitler, etc. I'm not sure I can write a page on world wars 1&2 or the ottoman empire or the crusade . These are few of the areas I wish I know about, but due to my poor reading culture I know little about them. 1. Listen: Listening to international radio stations is something I thoroughly enjoy. There is no subject under the sun - from Cambodian wildlife to African politics, from Navajo architecture to space exploration - that is not talked about on radio. I suggest you listen to a few of the international stations and then stick to one that meets your standards of objectivity. Buy audio versions of books and listen to them in the car and at home on weekends.I'm poor at this too. The only thing I listen to in radio is football, football only. I have apathy for radio, local or international. I try to listen to or watch CNN, BBC, Discovery etc but I easily get bored and switch back to sports channel. 3. Hire a driver: One reason many don't read is that they can't find the time. I assume you live in Lagos where everyone knows what the traffic situation is like. That is good time to for reading. If you can conveniently afford it, hire a driver and read in the car.I agree this may help but I don't think it's complicated. While I may be able to afford the 35K I'll be paying the driver monthly, there are a number of social/family considerations that will not make me hire a driver at this age/level. Also I don't think driving is a major issue as I don't spend much time driving, I use my car only on weekends and use public transport most times on weekdays. 4. Read here and there: It is not those big books that will get you where you want. Reading short articles in magazines and encyclopedia can open your mind.Yes I do this and it's been very helpful. Read newspapers and magazines and short journals very well. But another weakling here is that I don't read international mags like Time, The Economist etc much as I would like to be doing. There was a time I was buying them on weekly basis but after going thru the cover stories and I dumpedthem inside thcar they kept piling up without reading. I stopped. buying later. 5. Read novels: If you don't like stories, this will be difficult.I don't read novels. Highly averesed to it. 200 pages? I ahve resinged to fate here. Listen to Grannies? yes, i did this growing up. Witjh Grandpa being a first republic politician, most of what I know about first republic politics are from his mouth. Plus few readings later in life I know more about first republic Nigerian politics. |
While I don't see this solving the prostitution menace in the country, I am in support of this move. And like has been mentioned before, their patrons, who are mainly politicians, should also be brought to book. |
It's good to encourage oneself and I feel for you guys, given the not-totally-justifiable discrimination you guys face. Let me drop a couple of names. FOLA ADEOLA: Co-founder of GTB and their MD for over 12 years. He had HND from Yabatech but had some foreign post-graduate qualifications too. LARA BANJOKO: Former COO of Oando's downstream subsidiary. HND yabatech, FCA. List will be updated as I remember others. |
While I pesonally believe religious and ethnic factors play out in Nigeria's political system, I believe it is exaggerated. I have lost an election in the past because of religious affiliation, but that has not made me to believe that I could not have defeated my opponent if I was far better than her. If I was so better than her, that may have overridden religious consideration. I find it hard to believe Bankole's 'persecution' has religious undertone or if at all it has, I'm not convinced that's the sole or main reason the so-called progressives are after his seat. Let him clear himself of the allegations first. The trend is Nigeria is worrying. All any thief that is caught needs do is to shout 'It's because I'm a Muslim, It's because I'm a Christian, It's because I'm Hausa, It's because I'm Igbo, It's because I'm Yoruba' and you will see people line up behind him/her even if caught red-handed with the loots. Unfortunately, even the supposed intellectuals are not left out. |
I wonder why people still take football this serious. I thought I'm the most passionate SE fan today but this one don apss me o. |
Mamagee is better ignored. Anybody that does know Rabiu or Azeez does not follow Nigerian football, and not fit to comment. That said, I think Mikel is still ahead of these guys. In fact, it is comparison abuse to compare Rabiu and Azeez with Mikel. Mikel did better than them at their level. Even if Mikel has not been able to replicate his under-20 performance at national/team level, we have not seen Azeez or Rabiu, not to talk of judging them. How can we be using Rabiu and Azeez's Under 17 or 20 performance to comapre Mikel's SE or Chelsea performance? Who says these boys will not do worse at such level? As for Haruna, he is also in top club in Monaco, and also now in NT, so he is the only one that can at least be compared with Mikel. I agree he is more attacking minded, aggressive, tackles more and boots packed with more productive shots than Mikel, but I'm not yet convinced he's better than Mikel. |
So we can all watch minute by minute and I will point out the "tremendous", "glorious", "world class" performance of SE against Argentina.sarcasm, but seriously the guys did well. We see white man we become optimistic. Our problems are solved.Saga, I disagree with you. This is not a matter of white or black man, after all, Nigerians are unanimous that Berti Vogts was one of, if not our poorest coach ever, yet he's white. We may not be there yet, but it is obvious that Lagerback is brining improvement to this team. I agree Amodua too could have given us this result but definitely not like this. It can be argued that with Onigbinde, a local coach, in 2002, we got the same 1-0 result against the Argies but the SA game was far better. In 2002, we were completely outclassed from beginning to end, and let's not forget that the 2002 Argies team was not as star-studded as now. The difference so far btw what Amodu would have done and what Lars is doing: 1, A player like Haruna would not have made the team with Amodu, and he is our best midfielder now, meaning our Midfield would have been more shambolic. 2, Olofinjana, Nwaneri and co would have made teh team ahead of Lukmon and Afolabi respectively. With Lars we ahve more options in the defence. 3, Lars has instilled some discipline into the team. 4, Amodu would have waited till 80-85 minutes before making sub. Lars did his subs at a time they can still make a difference. Martins and Osaz's introduction made impact. I agree with these though: Our defence is REPEATEDLY penetrated. But whose defence wouldn't Messi have? Ask Arsenal. |
On a second thought, I can't rule out the stage-management theory too. In Naija politics, anything is possible. Everybody whips up sentiments to gain people's sympathy. gbemi apparently is on facebook yarning about Allah's protection of the righteous or some such bsI'm also concerned about her trying playing the religious card for us in Kwara. She comes home, does posters showing her in Hijab, and tries to hoodwink the religious demagogues of Kwara. In any case, I put that question to her on FB, where everybody was licking her ass. I don't have any problem with her sha, but she should stop all these childish acts. She should ahve gone beyond that. |
My main problem with YRD was his association with Ibori in particular, and what appeared to be undue persecution of Ribadu and El-Rufai. Otherwise, I think he had good intentions for this country even if hsi health did not allow him to translate it into actions. |
i don pick up Obama's 'Audacity of hope' for six months, I neva read 25 pages. |
Vincent did a great job. To stop Messi one-one three times is a career achievement. I'm not aware any CL or La Liga keeper has been able to do this, yes, stopping Messi one-on-one three times in a match. Yes, Mourinho stopped him, but not by keeper. He was kept away from even reaching keeper. The defence, and to some extent, the midfield, did the job for Mourinho, not keeper. Messi was not given chance to come near keeper in those matches. Messi hardly missed one-on-one. Big credit to Enyeama. By now, I think his market value will increase. Big credit to Messi too. He has proved that even if a coach spends one week strategizing on how to keep him at check, he will have his way. Or how else dow e describe teh way he did those trademark meandering. Messi is a football genuis. I'm now convinced he's better than Ronaldinho. |
This is my greatest literary shortcoming. I don't read more than newspapers, and sometimes magazines. I also glance through a number of interesting books on history of Nigerian politics, especially between indepence till now, but they are not usually more than 50 pages. I read newspapers a lot, from primary school, and till now. But that is the end. I respect people that are wide-read and try to be like them. I am a public affairs commentator but my very limited knowledge of history and systems doesn't make my writings rich enough to my satisfaction. I like to be knowledgeable in history, international politics(I'm a little versed in local politics), philosophy, and in fact every field of knowledge, even if little, but I'm not comfortable with my current knowledge. I don't read novels too, neither do I watch films. I know a little about football, that's all. I won't say I'm lazy but I think it's more of lack of interest. I try to develop interest, but it just isn't coming. I bought Obama' Audacity of Hope at teh Airport in December, and till today, six montsh after, I have not read twenty pages. I want to be wide read. How do I go about it!!!!! |
I have no doubts that Nigeria will defeat Greece. |
12large:na wa 4 u o. If Lukman, our only attacking midfieder plays as a DM, where do we use our natural DMs-Etuhu, Ayila or Kaita? who plays attacking midfield? |
