'At the moment'

Both are two different things.

Of all time, I will pick Georeg Weah, at the moment, and since Weah, Samuel Eto'o.

For those who argue that SLS is not fit to be a CBN governor because he has a history of engagement in socio-political and even ethnic and religious commentaries, this is most laughable. In as much as that doesn't diminish his knowledge of banking and economics, then there is absolutely nothing wrong in engaging in those areas of debate. If anything, he should be commended for being versatile enough to know much about politics, history, philosophy, religion, culture etc despite being a top banker. I have read over 30 of SLS' writings from 1998-2005 and I'm marvelled at his depth of knowledge in virtually every field of knowledge.

Even on NL here we have people that are versed in so many aspects of knowledge, and that surely doesn't mean that they are less capable of handling taks in their primary field.

I like to use this example in my analyses elsewhere: Chief Bola Ige, with much respect, was a core pan-Yoruba man, a man who believed in the supremacy of Yoruba race and never hid it, but he was made Minister of Justice and AGF not of Yoruba nation but of multi-ethnic Nigeria, and nobody raised issues on whether the man will be able to do justice to every Nigerian, why then do we have issues with a man because he defended his tribe in the past?

There are strong points in Ekeh's submissions no doubt, but more than anything, it shows the ranting of a man that had once been matched, if not finished, by an ordinary banker in his terrain - intellectual discourse.

Wow, I missed this thread when it was hot as I had been inactive on NL in the last couple of weeks.

I came across this Prof Ekeh's expose on Sanusi few days ago while doing some work on the internet, and not surprisingly, it has made it to NL.

I'm planning to write an equally comprehensive rejoinder to that piece.

Meanwhile, it is necessary to tell you guys here that the author of that article, Professor Peter Ekeh, no doubt an intellectual, has not been in good terms with Sanusi prior to SLS's becoming CBN boss. Both of them engaged in hot debates around 2001. It bias and past grudge cannot be ruled out from Ekeh's write-up. He should thank God that SLS, as CBN governor, will surely not respond to his tirade as he did in 2001. He should continue to have a field day.

Good observation. Don't think that's brainer though. Comment is a subset of view. If you must comment, you must first view, but you can view and not comment. So surely, views will be greater than comments. I opened many threads and don't comment. Not to mention the hundreds of people taht come to NL but are not members.
Career › Zenith Bank Bans Nairaland by Jarus(op): 12:56pm On May 24, 2010
My colleague, an ex-Zenith staff, was telling me some days ago that the bank's IT has banned NL from their systems, meaning you cannot log on to NL from Zenith Bank systems. Same is happening in my company and many other companies for facebook.

This could mean that many Zenith staff visit NL, thereby constituting a distraction. Or possibly because of insider stories about Zenith that go on here.

Either case, NL is becoming a force to reckon with. Many companies' IT and HR departments can no longer afford to ignore NL.

I was working before I came for service but cos of NYSC am off job without compensation of any sort. I was undergoing professional training where I was working and as well had the opprtunity of working for and meeting top men in Abuja, but NYSC brought me to Lagos and left me at the mercy of a firm where I sit Ideal each day without adding any value to my life and knowledge. NYSC nearly left me on the streets cos of not having an accomodation in Lagos. As I write these comments am in the office am posted to doing nothing but surf the internet and read books. what/who are the other options in Ilorin?

What have they done, have they provided the much needed opposition or have they slowly integrated with the saraki clan only to fall out and start claiming dictatorship

I'd like to see a healthy opposition but peaceful government in Kwara
I'm not sure children of other people will be better than saraki children. Moreso he has been installing other people's children in govt since 70's and now his children, as if they are also not Kwarans.

This argument may sound Adedibu-esque but I personally care less about whoever rules.
Politics › Re: Yar'adua's Body Leave Presidential Villa For Burial (pictures) by Jarus(m): 3:11pm On May 08, 2010
This is the picture that got my attention. This is one aspect of the Islamic religion that baffles me at times. The religion, at the most critical moment of a life cycle apparently reminds the devout of futility of wealth. So, how come there are still Muslim thieves in public offices in Nigeria?  I can't understand it . To think that a president of Nigeria will be buried in the most ordinary of graves as shown in this picture, calls on Muslims to remember this aspect of their faith while in high office.
Thanks, OnlyTruth, for reminding us this. It's very saddening. I've been quite emotional since YRD's illness and lost my critical self. few days to YRD's death, I wrote one quite emotional piece out of my concern: http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=170883&d=2010-04-13

I can't hold back tears seeing the man dead. Man is very forgetful. After leaving that graveside, and back into the comfort of their homes/offices, our Muslim politicians/leaders will forget, and go back to their bad, corrupt ways.

His death really touched me as a person, and shed tears anytime I saw the pictures, including this morning.

If only we Muslims can learn from this.

Politics › Re: Autopsy Report Of Yar'adua by Jarus(m): 2:51pm On May 08, 2010
CyberG:
So, Yar'Adua is done and gone, Nigeria remains. Whereas there has been a lot of condolence messages, debates about what he achieved and what he did not, what he did and what he did not, etc; I don't see Nigeria and Nigerians DEMANDING an autopsy report. Well, most people will slag off my post and even mock it, but I won't be surprised. In the countries Nigerian leaders and a lot of Nigerians like to travel to or relocate too, this is ONE of their most effective ways of preventing/reducing future occurrence of deaths. Why? Because when the actual and scientific basis of death is established, effective and adequate measures can be taken against such diseases or sicknesses. This way, if it occurs in the future, adequate and needed resources are already on ground to combat it.

So what do you NL and Nigerians think? Shouldn't the highest level of government rather take steps to prolong the life of its president and the so called common man to the last by immediately thinking of how to forestall such calamities? Obviously, Yaradua did not die from old age and why it is generally known and published in news magazines that he suffered from Churg-Strauss Syndrome which he (and his handlers) never admitted, it is high time the truth comes out. Believe it or not, some future president's life maybe saved by planning early! The life of any of the 150 M+ Nigerians could be saved or prolonged by early detection and early treatment that is just a few minutes away in a Nigerian hospital than spending billions of naira to fly one person abroad. In fact, after the whole expense. . .we have this kind of situation again and all we can offer is a state burial, hypocritical RIP messages? I ask: which is easier? For Nigeria and its leaders to deal with Nigeria's health problems (and other multi-various problems decisively) or to be running abroad only to still end-up 6 feet under? See the list - Maryam Babangida, Stella Obasanjo, Yaradua, Abacha, and the several of them who died because they couldn't get timely medical help.

So, will we see an autopsy report or not? Yar'Adua's corpse was covered through-out and never even shown. Was there no lying-in-state? Is it against the muslim law? Awolowo died when I was much younger but there was lying-in-state and his face was shown. So, why was Yaradua covered throughout, yet no autopsy report? Will Nigerians ever be honest or must everything be 419?? Wuru-wuru? The more you look the less you see?
Let this man rest in peace please.

Lying in state ko, lying-in-nation ni. Being a Muslim, he was buried Islamic way. Pure and simple. I don't know anywhere in Nigeria's constitution that says you must do LIS for a president, or see his face. His religious belief must be respected. If that is what you call wuruwuru, then I'm very sorry for you.

Good point. Imagine wasting expensive aviation fuel for two hours. Somebody does not have their thinking cap on.

My Questions is

“if the weather in Lagos was bad, therefore making it difficult for the plane to land, could it not be better to simply go back to Abuja, or even to the nearest safest airport to land rather than risking the life of about 100 passengers. I am just struggling to understand why a pilot would make seven unsuccessful attempt; spend two hours hovering under “bad weather” condition, and yet insist in landing in same airport – would that not be a decision error on the part of the pilot?.
so you think aviation fuel is more expensive than lives.

Islam › Re: Steps To Accept Mohammed by Jarus(m): 3:33pm On May 06, 2010
Let me start by saying that Muslims prefer to use 'believe' rather than 'accept'. Compare 'Accept Jesus' as Christians say. We prefer to use 'accept Islam'.

That noted, by accepting Muhammad(PBUH), I want to believe you mean, becoming a Muslim. You don't accept Mohamamed in isolation, you believe in Islam altogether.
This means you have to believe in Allah as your creator, believe in the messengership and prophetship of Prophet Mohammed and other prophets. You take guidance from the Qur'an.

Practically, after the mind work(belief), then you need to utter, with conviction the Kalimah i.e that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and Prophet Mohammed is His messenger.

With these you are alreday a Muslim and have 'accepted Mohammed', to use your word. Then follows practical aspects, praying, keeping to Allah's Dos and refraining from His Don'ts.

certainly not saraki, hes not a core northerner. my guess is mukthar shagari. the current deputy governor of sokoto state and former minister of agriculture. The son of former president shehu shagari.
Muhtar is not ex-President Shagari's son. They are from same village, and I think same family though.

mikeansy:
Folks OBJ wanted someone who will have his ears in Aso Rock. It is an example of the selfishness of man and the limits of reason, but to suggest that OBJ nominated Yar'adua so that he will die in office is a little over the top.

Meanwhile dont be suprised if Yayale Ahmed emerges VP. He has been Jonathan's most loyal and consistent friend all this while.

Those saying Bukola Saraki is warming up should forget it, this is not a football match. It is not about warm ups!!!! The only man whose decisions and opinion matter most is Jonathan. I don't see how Bukola Saraki will emerge VP.

After coming to Lord over Jonathan while Yar'adua was in Saudi Arabia? Forget Saraki.
Exactly. I don't think GJ and Bukola Saraki are that much in good terms.

Walert:
It is still sketchy but current events dictate that the new vice-president is likely to come from the north-central and probably one of the governors might be picked. Sule Lamido of Jigawa State is being widely speculated from a reliable source in the presidency.
North-Central is preferred because Yar'adua is from that zone. Obasanjo is playing a pivotal role on this selection.
Yar'adua is from North-West, not North-Central.

On Ribadu, I was just discussing this with my colleague here who is seriously and emotionally canvassing for a Ribadu Vice-Presidency.
Since Idi-Agbon, the post of VP has largely been figure head, save Atiku that tried to bring vibrancy and some independence to that position.
I don't think Ribadu can do much as a VP. VP seems like a spare tyre position. If not presidency itself, I prefer to see him in EFCC again.
