Finally, if Allah is so merciful and benevolent, why didn't this man die during a bout of exhilirating sex with Indian prostitutes like Abacha did, as opposed to the horrid and excruciating death by immolation that was inflicted ? Was the man burnt to death because he was a "Lawmaker" ?
I don't seem to get what you are saying here.

But the boldened part appears clear. How did you know he had a bout of exhilirating sex with Indian prostitues? Please fear God.

Another non-sensical thread from Deepzone, just to please those of us that have accused her of being a chronic critic of North and Muslims. Hypocrisy at its height!

What has Ahmadu Bello not got?
One of the most prestigious varsities in the country named after him.
Ahmadu Bello way VI, Lagos and in other major cities in the country.

I ask Deepzone: Has there been a public holiday named after a person in Nigeria, nay in Africa?

If Yar'adua, for example, comes up with that idea, it is people like you that will first criticize him of naming a NATIONAL holiday after a sectional leader(AB was the leader of the North, just as Awo and Zik were leaders of the West and East respectively--but Zik later became national after becoming first indigenous Governor-General).

FYI Herbert Macaulay, though a Yoruba man, was at the forefront of nationalist moves before he died. He was more national than Awo and AB. But because he was older than these men, he died earlier and Awo, Zik and AB finished the struggle.

I know your efforts @ attacking Islam and Muslims(ur topic on Murtala still ongoing on Politics thread?) from all angles on Nairaland will one day yield positive result. Yes, positive result, the result that will make you eternally be grateful to God that you embarked on a mission to fight Islam and Muslims:

@ Deepzone and David,

Before you go any further on the loan condition, recipient nations should not necessarily be an Islamic state . If I had created any other impression, then Accept my apologies.

Lets see your point on MM @Deepzone

1,Arabic Inscription on the Naira: This was actually done during the regime of Gen. Yakubu Gowon -a Christan (North) as there is no evidence that the naira was changed during the regime of MM

2,OIC Membership: All available records show that Nigeria became a member state during the regime of Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo -a Christan (South). As Deepzone had earlier said, even if it was MM intention as far as he did not lead us there at that point in time you can not hang him on this.

Let us not forget that the polity of the World at that time allowed Obasanjo to lean towards Pan Africanism and to see it through it will associate with any thing that is against aparthied that is why World bank and its likes may not have been an option for us then. The . the nationalisation policy is one major decision taken then to show case pan Africanism (BP = AP)

If you do have more facts do bring it on

On MMIA: Well we do have to look at all monuments named after all known names and view it from allegations against them (You will be luck if we will ever name anything after anyone as all hands seems soiled)
1,So desperate to find MM's fault was Deepzone that she did not do her research well before coming up with something to 'back' her hatred for this man. If your intention is not borne out of hatred for this man because of his tribe & religion, I challenge you to disprove the boldened sentence.

2, I know you will want to disprove this(no 2)by saying OBJ, Musa Yar'adua,TY Danjuma were MM's boys, that they only implemented MM's idea. But for the first point, I know you can't tell me Gowon was MM's boy.

Please girl, when next you want to dress your subjective dislike for somebody on some 'objective' reasons, do deeper research.

DeepZone:
Many muslims on this board watch us everyday criticize a Nigerian Christian leader to death but immediately you raise an arm on their fellow islamic faithful pertaining his/her policies, they'll start bitching about and calling you names because they've perceived your action as anti Islam. Is it inferiority complex or just malignant religious melanoma?
It is easy to distinguish a sentimental criticism from an objective, well-intentioned one.

Apart from knowing you as an avowed Muslim-hater from your past posts, one needs not be a clairvoyant before discerning your intention in this thread, which is to IMPAIR UNSUSPECTING PEOPLE'S ORIENTATION ABOUT & PERCEPTION OF MM AS A GREAT LEADER(JFK is taken as a synonym for great leader) for no other reason than because he was Muslim and Hausa(going by the way you sounded and the example you gave as his 'misdeed').

Personally, I have defended MM so far for two reasons:

1, OBJECTIVE:I'm convinced he was a great leader
2, COUNTER-SUBJECTIVE: Having read your mischievous intention of smearing MM's name just because you can't come to terms with seeing a Muslim being given such accolades, to, as much as possible, defend him. call it tit for tat, if you like.

As regards criticizing leaders based on Religion, count me out. Read my previous posts on topics that have to do with commendation or criticism of political leaders, I have always been on the defensive, not offensive. I have never criticized a leader just because he's a Christian. I dwell on issues, not religious affiliation in my offensive comments. Similarly,If a Muslim leader is being criticized without hinging his misdeeds on religion, I don't have any problem with that.

Afterall, I'm one of the very few Nigerians that believe Obasanjo(a Christian) is not as bad as portrayed. I have always told people Obasanjo had good intention for Nigeria but his problem is he believes he's the only MR. RIGHT and too self-opinionated.
Politics › Re: Murtala Mohammed by Jarus(m): 5:07pm On Sep 01, 2008
DeepZone:
Many Nigerians regard him as Nigeria's JFK. Why? Especially when he was the first head of state that introduced Nigeria into the OIC when he knew too well that Nigeria is not a muslim country?
When I saw this thread, I presumed Deepzone wanted to seek opinion on whether MM truly deserves the honour and respect he's been given today. It was thru her subsequent comments that I realized that she out to downplay the respect MM commands. But you have already said many Nigerians regard him as a great leader. Yes, people that know his records and read his intentions hold him in high records, and they are the majority.

Deepzone's problem is that she can't stand seeing a HAUSA MAN(Muslim for that matter) commanding such reverence.
DeepZone:
I'm glad you posted the OIC member nations and their year of accession. Why didn't you see major african christian nations like Ghana and south africa in that list?
Cameroun and Benin have Muslim-Christian proportion as Nigeria pls. Don't compare SA with Nigeria in terms of Muslim-Christian spread. SA has far more Christians. It's roughly 50-50 in Nigeria. So Cameroun and Benin are good refrence points.

Interesting 2 c this thread still rock. IFE! Still rambling?

@ nairaguy, nice1.

@ife-eco6 - Or are you one of those people that ran berserk because they couldn't secure admission into Ife?

Veryyyyy funny!

@ife-eco6 - For your information, I had filled UNILAG in my UME form in 2000 before my brother(himself a Unilag product) advised that I should erase it. His reason: Even with 300 in UME,admission is not guaranteed in Unilag, because it is for the HIGHEST BIDDER,not the MOST BRILLIANT. I took corrector fluid and changed it to Ife.

So u really wanted UNILAG but your brother misled u? now your beefing? Well, For your information, am not from a rich home, scored 260 in jamb, n got into UNILAG, now I can make a rich home, n make homes rich. LOL.

@ife-eco06, please don't think am picking on u, I just think your an intelligent ife grad and am wondering how much more u would b if u schooled at UNILAG. Maybe your thoughts of having your masters at UNILAG isn’t a bad idea at all
Like I have mentioned here several times, the opportunity to attend Ife is one of the greatest things that have ever happened to me in my life. Dad finished from Lag, my brother(now MD of an Investment bank) finished from Lag, so Lag was all I knew before 2000. I knew little about Ife. But if I knew much about Ife then, I wouldn't have chosen Lag in the first place. But my brother knew more and advised me to choose Ife, despite the fact that he finished from Lag. I reluctantly took his advice, but today I'm thanking him for that advice. Changing my University choice from Lag to Ife, few days before I submitted my form, remains one of the top three decisions I have taken in my life!!!

I still respect Unilag. After Ife, Lag comes second, as far I'm concerned.

As regards considering Unilag, if I want to do my masters in Nigeria( I have vowed not to do my masters in Nigeria anyway), the simple reason is that I work in Lagos, so can't be going to Ife for my masters.
server33:
@ife-eco6 - Or are you one of those people that ran berserk because they couldn't secure admission into Ife?

Veryyyyy funny!
FYI, I wrote UME once and gained admission into Ife straight away. By God's grace, I never had problem securing admission. I never gave my credentials to anybody to help me with admission. But I know people that almost killed themselves because they didn't get Ife admission, pursuing Ife for more than five times before settling for the SU-varsities.

It is almost unanimously agreed that Murtala was the best Head of state Nigeria ever had.
He was a soldier with a difference, an epitome of humility. He died poor. He took over over at a critical period in Nigeria's history and started well until he was gunned down on Friday, February 13, 1976 in Lagos, while returning from Juma'at prayers.

Maybe you need to read the book JUST BEFORE DAWN by KOLE OMOTOSO.

He may not be perfect, but Murtala stood out among Nigeria's past leaders. He deserved all the honours(MMA,N20 etc) pls.

@Ife-eco,

I know that Deji Akere. I think he went to Suleja Academy. I was hearing about his exploits when he was in year 2. What is it with those Chemical Engineering boys previous holder was from Chemical, The guy who threatened it was from Chemical -Ahmed Shittu did you ever hear about him? Now this Deji Akere.

Seun Osewa did not go to any other school after Ife. He went into Nairaland Biz I guess!!
I knew Hammed Shittu of course. He was in part 4 when I was a Jambite. There was so much much hype about him then, but before he graduated his GP dropped to around 4.75. He didn't even lead his department. Simeon overtook him and finished with 4.88, to lead their set. I learnt Simeon immediately left for Imperial College, London for his masters, while Shittu joined Chevron Nigeria. Simeon went ahead to graduate as Overall 2nd best in Imperial College,London after his masters. Shittu has also resigned from Chevron, left for Imperial College, to go and 'revenge', break Simeon's record in London. From Ife, these guys have taken their rivalry to London!!! That was the last thing I heard and it was about 3 years ago; not sure whether Shittu was able to break Simeon's record in Imperial College.

Yes, Deji Akere, finished from Suleja Academy. He was a genuis. He now holds the record of ALL-TIME HIGHEST CGPA in Ife. I wrote one article about him, published in The Nation newspaper in December last year. Unlike Shittu, Deji was very gentle and easy going, so there was no hype about him in Ife. A friend of mine since primary school, Femi Taiwo, was in Deji's class, in Ife. This my childhood friend competed with Deji for the TOP POSITION in the Faculty of Technology for the set, but he later succumbed and confessed to me that competing with Deji was like hitting your head against a rock!!!. This my friend, who was the best SSCE student in Kwara state in 2000 read far more than Deji, but the NATURAL FACTOR just didn't make him near Deji when results came out. In any case, Femi finished second in the Dept with 4.75(far from Deji's 4.94, despite conscious efforts to outdo Deji from year 1-3, until he submitted in yr 4, when it no longer became possible). This my friend, Femi, I'm talking about, is himself a genuis o. He led SSCE in Kwara state 2000, shattered GRE and now doing his Phd directly(without masters, left Nigeria Dec 2007, abandoned NYSC) in University of Arkansas, USA, the first Nigerian to be given admission for that programme at Phd level in Arkansas(and he was just 24 yrs). But even Genuis get class. Deji belongs to a higher class than him!!!

RichyBlacK:
Anybody here heard of Osita Onuma? This guy defined academic height and what I call maximus GPA. A graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. GPA = 4.96/5.00. He summarily crushed a 124-year old record at Imperial College with an overall score of 98.85/100. The guy also made mince meat of the GRE exam.
I doff my hat for this Onuma o!!! Stories like this motivate me. Helen Otitoju is another Nigerian that broke a 147-years record in Howard University, USA in 2000, by graduating with 3.93/4 in Electrical Engineering. But this Onuma's record appears greater. But i know this Deji will also one day make global news hedaline.

I also always try to set/break national record, if not global, but it is not easy. But thank God, I was able to have First Class, even though not a mouth-opening CGPA(4.57)

some death by stoning offences are now jail times

But you did not say bring what authorized the change. Nobody can change Allah's laws. Whoever change stone offences to jail terms do so at their own whims, definitely not for Islam.
some Islamic countries now make polygamy illegal

Thank God you said Islamic Countries, not ISLAM. Even if Saudi does it, inasmuch as it is not what Islam says, they are not part of Islam and cannot be smuggled into Islam.
The hijab and burqua are not allowed in some schools and Universities,Turkey is an example
And so therefore? It is Turkey and those countries that are changing(deviating), not Islam
marrying underage girls is illegal now in some
All these underage marriage talk are nothing but propaganda against Islam,in the first place. So I wont join issues with you here. But even if Islam sanctions the so-called underage marriage, the fact that some countries ban it doesn't mean it is no longer part of Islam.
and women are now more that tilths in some places
I can't stop laughing!!! It is these women that are changing(for worse anyway), not Islam.
that verse in the koran about husband scourging their wives has the word "lightly "added to it and the modern translations have taken it out outright
They now try to prove that aisha was older than 6 because they now know pedophilia is a crime and frowned at by decent human beings

A wanton dispaly of ignorance!!!
Even the meaning of jihad has changed from holy war from when Usman dan fodio did his thing to struggle by modern muslims.
The meaning of Jihad cannot be changed. It was and still HOLY STRUGGLE. Yes, if the struggle requires war, war is still jihad. Struggle is just an encompassing war. War is a subset of struggle(Jihad)
Some muslims now outrightly condemn barbaric acts like stonings and amputations and honor killing which were accepted in mohammed's time
I agree with with you that Some muslims, as you mentioned have changed, but definitely not Islam.
Muslims now listen to music despite Mohammeds disdain for it
Again you bury the corpse leaving out the legs. Muslims listening to music doesn't mean the Islamic rule on it has changed. The death of the Prophet marked the closure of the 'constitution'. So even if millions of Muslims do it, taht doesn't mean it has become part of Islam.
killing of apostates is now illegal in some muslim quarters despite what the koran said
Thank God, you did not say Koran does not say it again.
mukina for instance will not be a second wife to any one, she's independent, converses with males with no strings attached, dresses well, does not need permission from a male to go wherever she chooses, will not let anyman scourge her and she is still a muslim and there are millions like her.
Who cares!!! We don't look at person in Islam,we look at the the Qur'an and Sunnah.

You have only proved that Muslims are changing, not Islam. And this is why there is the term SIN(drifting from Allah's laws).

A SMALL ADMONITION TO MY MUSLIM BROTHERS/SISTERS
May Allah not make us among those that will misrepresent Islam. Queenisha was able to name some of us(individuals and countries) as examples of PEOPLE/COUNTRIES that represent CHANGED 'ISLAM'.
This is serious. Even a non-Muslim knows us as doing what ISLAM frowns at, and was trying to smuggle those practices into Islam.

Make no mistake about it; eventhough OBJ was in-charge, but IBB was fully in-control during that period.
And FYI: OBJ knew clearly that the only real friend he had when he was in power was IBB. Forget the sycophants, they come and they go. Only the real soldiers remain regardless of the circumstance.

OBJ also recognized during this same period that there were lines he mustn't cross and believe it or not, he did not cross these lines.

There were nothing that took place at this period that IBB did not know about, at least 2 months in advance.

Absolutely, there were no wings to be clipped

Do you know about Politics at all? Yes, there is no denying the fact that IBBwas one of those that installed OBJ in 1999, but things fell apart before the end of OBJ's second term. Just because you're the king of boys in your village doesn't make you the Most Powerful Politician in Nigeria; therefore, at this time Saraki will not be selected among this group. May be in few years, but for now the most powerful in Nigeria are:
IBB
David Mark
Yar'Adua

Furthermore, thuggery, intimidation and killing absolutely doesn't represent power; substantial power is invisible (can not be seen or touched by anyone).
For better understanding, you can go ahead and use Saddam and Osama as a case study. There is a reason why one was captured in just few months while the other one is still chilling out somewhere.
Pls remove Mark from that list. He doesn't have any influence other than the official power vested on him as Senate President. Unknown Young Alhaji fought him to finish in his senatorial district and he almost lost his seat.

Yar'adua too is not powerful enough(even Bukola Saraki is more powerful than him). Other than Presidential power that he possesses, of course, I don't see him as a powerful Politician in the mould of his late brother,Musa or even Atiku.

IBB is still highly powerful, but Obasanjo was able to clip his wing. I never believed IBB will not clinch PDP ticket in 2007!!! His power and influence has greatly declined, no thanks to OBJ. But there is no denying the fact that IBB is powerful though.
youngies:
The highlighted parts refers.

Please I find it difficult to reconcile your referring to the Sarakis as Yorubas, when they have done everything humanly possible to distant themselves from being labelled as yorubas.

The elder Saraki once said in an interview while trying desprately to prove that Kwara is a northern State and mostly inhabitated by northerners, I quote "I accept that there are a few yoruba compounds in Kwara. . . " This doesn't sound to me like yoruba politician speaking.

The point of EFCC not moving against the Sarakis even though they did not support TTA is simply laughable. They are countless politicians with alot of excess baggage who publicly on a daily denounced TTA and EFCC never looked their way.

Granted the Sarakis are powerful but far from being the MOST powerful politicians in Nigeria. The scale of measurement needs to be callibrated, the S.I unit known and the minimum standard set before you can start bringing them to the table.
An Hausa/Fulani can definitely not be bearing OLUSOLA, BUKOLA or GBEMISOLA. All those statements are merely political, as Politicians do.
