Thanks for the video. He said there were attempts but the did not say they built, did he??
Look, I already praise Biafrans for at least attempting, "necessity is the mother of invention". Put a people in a similar condition, they will probably do the same, if not better.
kasiem: Okay, let's leave this issue as history. But the question still remains, why is gov't annihilating our local refineries at ukwa ngwa? Why is the f.g not being supportive of innoson? What measures have been placed to harness the flairs in aba? How has the f.g decided to tap from the knowledge of emegwali? Is it because of the igbo factor.
The local refineries are not good. They cause environmental degradation, you need to see it for yourself. Most of the Oil spills are cause by these people. It was shown on BBC a while ago. but they basically use a cut piece of metallic barrel, distill the petrol of the crude oil and pour the remaining crude oil into rivers, lakes or water bodies.
Innoson cars and Aba mades, I have to agree. The FG is stupi.d for not supporting them but I think the locals should patronize them first (just an opinion).
Emegwali is an American citizen, isn't he? And . . . .
No, it is not the "Igbo factor". What manufacturing company has been supported by the FG ? None!
Onlytruth: ^^ I hope you enjoyed the lesson from a REAL EASTERNER. You think all of us are foools. Lick your wounds silently and leave us alone. Biafra did it (modified planes in 1967). Nigeria HAS NOT done so by 2011. FACT OF HISTORY. End of story.
Some of you guys are way way emotional from my liking. . . .
Dawgpound: @Jason. Please mind how u address me. One more unruly outburst from you and I will reduce to nothing.
Quit displaying your rabid ignorance. U are full of bias and yes even hate and I can read it all. The same Ogonis that hated Biafra and Igbos also produced Kogbara and Kobani who supported Biafra. Do u see how moronik u come off using certain incidents to prove your point? Like Onlytruth asked why do u shyt in your pants @ the thought of non-Igbo Easterners supporting Biafra? River state was created by Gowon not by Ogoni ppl so we are not responsible for it. You really give to much credit to the Ogoni please. Asika, Elechi Amadi, Ike Nwachukwu were Igbos who fought against Biafra so are all Igbos now responsible for their actions? Banjo fought for Biafra so are all Yorubas responsible for his action? You don't know anything about my people and the contribution they made in Biafra. You don't my family either. The Ijo, Ogoni, even Igbo sabos who fought for Nigeria were given more power and clout. Many of us nurse pro-Biafra feelings but do so in silence due to our fear that we may not be able to withstand the onslaught of Nigerian murderers. Ken Wiwa had his personal hatred towards the Igbo but even apologized for it so u really can't throw it in our faces anymore. The Igbo can't even use that against us because he made his peace with them before he died. Wiwa is Wiwa and Ogoni is Ogoni. He might be the most popular or widely known Ogoni man but he didn't represent many of us. Kobani and Kogbara are my heroes not Wiwa but I appreciate his efforts in the 90s to save Ogoni land. He did a lot for us too. Its a shame he realized his mistakes in the past. Even his fellow Ogoni threw him under the bus and FG killed him so please hold it right there.
Main thing here is that Nigeria haven't achieved anything the Biafrans were able to achieve and u should be ashamed of yourselves. Ogoni land is part of the Eastern region. If trouble hits and we have to flee won't we seek refuge in Ijo, Igbo and Ibibio land?
My family during the war took refuge deep in Ibibio land and when that side became too hot many hid in Igbo land. During the Abacha onslaught against us in the 90s, Ogoni land was not safe guess what some of my ppl ended up Enugu capital and my cousin who had a job in Asaba housed his fam. Its silly and laughable how u assume that every Ogoni man believed in Wiwa. Some of us went with Wiwa while other went with Kobani, Kogbara. Truth be told many Ogoni were more pro-Biafra. Don't be fooled by Saro-wiwa who had the protection and support of the FG to be anti-Biafra. If FG could kill off 3 million Easterners what do u think they could have done to a mere less than 250,000 of us? Please be quiet.
Dawgpound: Its simple. They made achievements during a dangerous period and were under pressure. Nigeria for the past 50 years can't boast of anything except inflated sense of superiority over poorer nations like Somalia, Ethiopia, etc. If not for hatred and deep ethnic mistrust Nigerians would have been eager to tap into these talents for our betterment. The Jasons among them would rather drown in poverty, backwardness than see indigenous made oil refineries, products, all because the idea is coming from a certain section of the country. I weep at the thought of being stuck together with such crabs.
Oh boy, you this guy, stop twisting my words. Who said anything about killing Easterners and all? Guy, Let's go back to the genesis. You said many of the antagonist were from the West of Edo state. I debunked it. You came up with the Ogoni twist to it, I debunked that again. Now you are talking about killing 250,000 Ogonis
@highlighted You are funny. Did I not prove that Nigeria built their airplane with pictures and articles?? Where are the airplanes Biafrans built when Ojukwu himself did not mention anything about airplanes. Propaganda upon propaganda. Btw, how does my stance translate to "hate" on "Easterners" (whatever that means). You are indeed very funny. I'll leave you at that, since I see that this is/was an emotional thread for the "Ogonis". *hisses*
afam4eva: @ Jason Abeg free Dawgpound. I don't see anything wrong with him sympathizing with his eastern brother and i don't know what you mean by Ogoni people hated Igbos. The fact that a state is carved from an existing one does not mean the indigenes of the new states hate their former host.
I respect you. Read my comment, I did not mention hate, not once. Sympathy is good and I do it at times but making ethnically bias statements should not be allowed on this thread. I have followed the thread, wishing to be educated (notice I didn't comment until he came) until he introduced the ethnic sentiment. The MW was created from the west, does it mean the MW hates the west or east? Certainly not.
Dawgpound: It did happen but jealousy and envy won't let u admit. Yoruba people have always been envious of Igbos in particular and any other group East of Nigeria. I noticed new innovations have always been made by people from our side. If left alone I know how far our region would have gone.
Oh shut up! You are irritating now with this hypocrisy! What has jealousy got to do with the question asked by the OP? If he didn't want to hear people's opinion, why open a thread with a question mark, thus, demanding for other people's opinion??
What region are you talking about, you lair! Was Rivers state not formed in 1967 (before the war)? Did YOUR people not jubilate?? Your own leaders voted FOR the creation of Rivers states and you, an Ogoni man, is here mouthing off as if the Ogonis (who by the way, produced Ken saro wiwa) loved Biafra.
Dawgpound: @Jason, Gareth might be from Edo state but state but it doesn't erase the fact that majority of the commentators are West of Edo all the way to Yoruba land. I respect Gareth for speaking the truth but I won't deny the fact that majority of the people belittling these achievements are from that side of Nigeria. Also from what I know Edo is just a state with Igbo, Bini, Esan, etc are natives of that state so what is Gareth's ethnicity? Its not that crucial anyway but just proving your pointless statement. Be more specific.
. . .and so? Guy, people are tired of all these lies, back and forth arguments and chest beating! Its irritating to say the least. Look, people don't just want to air their views because if they do, you'll all call them haters and no one wants to be seen as a hater, except of course, a few Yorubas.----and I'm not ready to start the Edo state argument.
So agreed, they belittle Biafra's achievements (a country that lasted 30 months, over 41 years ago. I'm fairly certain, you weren't even born.), so? What are her achievements?? Obunigwe* (pardon my spelling)?! Is that what you can a guided-missile or ground to ground missile, or what other ridiculous names you call it.
The internet warriors said they built Airplanes while Ojukwu said they didn't build Airplanes, who should we believe? Yet, you said people from the "West of Edo" are belittling their achievements. -and what achievements have we all contributed to Nigeria, if we were all so great, high and mighty?!
BTW, what does this have to do with an Ogoni man (Ken saro-wiwa's ethnic group) who fought against Biafra?? I dey laugh o!
@ OP
Aside the above, I must note that even though the "Ogbunigwe" was crude, it proved the proverb right "necessity is the mother of invention". Kudos with regards to that. However, I can bet that ever other ethnic group and indeed nation, can build something similar, if not better, when put under the same conditions. Take a look at the Palestinians and Israel.
The Nigerian project was started by a company in Nigeria to provide a primary military trainer for the Nigerian Military Air Force, and helped establish an industrial base in the country. After an exhaustive search, the RV-6A was chosen as the aircraft best suited to their needs.
The program included establishing a manufacturing organization within Nigeria, utilizing local labor. A total of 60 aircraft were built and delivered to the Nigerian Air Force as trainers. The RV-6A was modified to include extensive electronics, and other minor aerodynamic changes to suit Nigerian flying conditions.
The original contract was for 60 kits to be delivered over a period of time to Nigeria, for assembly. These kits were delivered, assembled and delivered to the Nigerian Air Force, and are currently the military's primary trainers.
On its silver anniversary April 22, 1989, the air force unveiled and conducted a test flight of a prototype of Nigeria's first domestically built aircraft, the Air Beetle. Jointly built over two years by the NAF and a West German Kaduna-based firm from the design of the United States Van RV-6 sport aircraft, the Air Beetle had the unique feature of being able to fly on standard automobile fuel. This two-seat, single engine airplane was intended to be the primary trainer for the NAF, replacing the aging British Bulldog trainers. The production program called for sixty units by 1992 and eventual development of an improved version, the Super Air Beetle. In early 1990, the first export orders were reported, and forty aircraft of the first production run were scheduled for delivery to foreign customers.
deadie: I want to reply some of the ignorant posts here. Ogbunigwe was designed and built to propel small particles to the air intake of low flying jets, since the fighter planes flown by Nigerian and Egyptian air force mostly flew low. However, a resourceful officer, while under attack and about to retreat, asked his soldiers to direct the device against the approaching Nigerian army. They did that and the effect was devastating. It was stated in one of the accounts that a villager came to investigate the effect of what he had just heard, and on seeing the destruction commented "Chei, O gbuo fa na igwe", meaning, "wow, it has has killed them in their masses". That was how the name came about, "Ogbunigwe = mass killer". With the effect know, the design was optimized to serve as a kind of surface to surface missile. The story of the Ogbunigwe made it all the way to the UN when the Russian representative lamented that the Biafrans were using some kind of unknown weapons.
Dawgpound: Its very clear that the only thing stopping these Nigerians from recognizing or appreciating the achievements of Biafra back in the 60s is nothing but bigotry. I have noticed that many of the commentators belittling these achievements are mostly from West of Edo state. Damn shame.
hercules07: Federal roads are roads that are owned by the Federal government, what that means is anybody that needs to fix it will have to take permission from the federal government and will then be paid back later, now, PDP being a crazy party, will not release the road to Lagos state to fix, the only road that has been released so far is Orile Badagry road, so, please call your GEJ to come and fix the road that belongs to the federal government and leave fashola out of it, he is already fixing the one that goes from Orile to Badagry.
Francis-1: Fasola deploys his boys to waylay and attack and collect different kinds of fees from road users on airport road and somebody tells me it is not Lagos road Silly people, silly country
EMMA UJAH, CALEB AYANSINA ABUJA – The State Security Service, SSS, Wednesday, warned the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, against its plans to stage an anti-fuel subsidy removal rally in Abuja tomorrow insisting that the security situation could not permit such a gathering.
NYC had planned a National Rally and 24-hour hunger strike against the federal government’s planned removal of fuel subsidy, in Abuja.
It was reliably learnt that the SSS invited the President of the NYCN, Mr Olawale Ajani for “a chat” over the issue and he left the security agency’s premises at 3 .00 pm.
The SSS spokesperson, Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, told Vanguard that contrary to insinuations in some quarters, Mr. Ajani was never arrested
The council had, earlier, threatened to pass a vote of no confidence on the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, if it fails to suspend the proposed fuel subsidy removal.
The Leadership of the council also declared November 11, as a day for All Nigerian Youth Hunger strike against the federal government, just as it lashed out at the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku for going back on his earlier struggle against oil subsidy removal under the Military regime.
The President of the Council, who earlier addressed a press conference in Abuja maintained that the council would mobilize five hundred thousand youths to prepare for the total blockade of the roads leading to the three (3) arms zone in Abuja, should lawmakers support what he called a ‘deadly proposal’.
He said, “On behalf of the over 70 million Nigerian youths, I wish to declare in equivocal terms that we will stand against the removal of fuel subsidy in all its ramifications. Also the NYCN will collaborate with NLC, TUC, ASUU, NBA, NUJ, NCWS, NAWOJ and NURTW to fight this evil.
“To avert all these actions, we demand immediate cancellation of the proposed removal of fuel subsidy and increased government commitment to boost local content capacity.
“Also, recovery of all stolen monies and cancellation of all criminally reached plea-bargains, public debate on the workability, in the future, of this demonic proposal and pro-active step to put in place modern refineries”.
Ajani further noted that the youths did not trust the federal government’s defence of using the money to be realized from fuel subsidy to develop infrastructures, owing to the persistent failure of the government to fulfil its past promises. “We simply do not trust the government that decides the fate of the people without involving the young people just because they know we have superior and more valid reasons to support our position.
“The proposal is inconsiderate, wicked, unreasonable, insensitive and anti-people. It is ill timed and they simply want Nigerians to pay for their inadequacies and ineffectiveness. The explanation given depicts a government that lacks confidence in its own local content capacity.
Chei! This is heartbreaking! Imagine that 5 billion in our economy?? Think about the number of Mechanical engineers, Accountants etc this will employ?? Unleash our potential for Christ sake!!!
Eko Ile: At this stage of our developmeng, thats irrelevant. Even at higher price tag, we should go ahead and pay in form of subsidies just to enable local folks gain and improve needed capacity to grow, inovate and expand. Countries all over the world do this all the time to give their own people a fighging chance in the market place.
The morons running the country are not only bastardly clueless, they are too mean spirited and unpatriotic to the the right thing for their own people and country.
@Highlighted I could not agree more. Innoson guys are really trying!
manny4life: Come on Jason, you should know that this is 2007 data right here and it wiki, Please, we need real data. Oh btw, I'm only disputing the source from ekt_bear because it does seem like the data from that source is questionable. Unlike the one you posted, I back traced it to to different source which seems somewhat credible. 2007 data can only be useful if you're performing a horizontal analysis.
Please, don't think I'm bent on this issue or have any special attachment to it, I just have a special feel when it comes to ####, I just don't buy data hook, line and sinker. For the record Jason, you are posting GDP, ekt_bear posted Revenues (IGR + Fed Allocation).
In terms of authenticity, we are on the same page (notice the wikipedia statement). In terms of wealth and all, I think even a recent data collection will not be much different from the once posted. There might be a few jostling around (position wise) but overall, we have a vague view of the wealth each state commands.
Notice that both data still points out that Delta, Rivers and Lagos are top 3. Ekiti and Ebonyi are also in the bottom of both tables. Anyway, facts or not, until their verified and updated . . some of the information provided can only be speculations.
As you can see there is a direct co-relation. Positions are only shifted slightly but over all, its consistent with the data provided by the OP. But then again, it is WIKIPEDIA!
afam4eva: I guess you didn't checkout my first post where i stated that this is not the best idea. I'm against it but i don't think the idea was in bad taste.

I totally understand where you are coming from and to be honest, the highlighted is true. But, Lagosians should not allow it sha. Any sign of division should be resisted. Thanks.
11 Pages filled with chest-beating and ethnic bashing. . . mehn, we have a long way to go. Igbos and Yorubas need to drop this ego issue, haba! The North was very fine before they joined Nigeria and I am certain that they will be fine in the long run if there is a split, same with the SE and SW.
Peeps calm down. You guys need to understand that almost every ethnic group has contributed to the Nigerian project. Even the so-called almajiri north( JK). The only difference is the IMPACT of their contribution. The SS's impact is felt most because of the over-dependency.
But I must say, this thread is an eye opener . . .
