Nigerian music star makes yet another surprise career move, switching from one telcom to another – just like that

Remember we are the first to tell you that bangerlee, D’banj has parted ways with Michael Adenuga’s Globacom and pitched tent with rival, MTN.

A highly placed source says that ‘the deal happened a few weeks ago and Dbanj is very happy about it’.

D’banj is currently in South Africa and was yet to respond to our enquiries at the time of this report.

This will be the 2nd time Dbanj will fail to renew a deal with Globacom.


D’banj and Globacom fell out in 2010 when the pop singer reportedly entered the company’s bad books and all efforts at reconciliation failed. Despite multiple interventions, the telcom refused to extend his N70M two-year contract, settling instead for pop Twins Psquare for a four year deal worth over N240m.

But in 2013, a chance meeting with Glo’s billionaire owner Mike Adenuga led to a new endorsement deal, one of the costliest signings of 2013.

That arrangement has now expired, and insiders say a renewal is not on the cards.


What’s not certain is whether Globacom desired a renewal in the first place.

‘D’banj is a content evangelist. Ideally he should have been with MTN in the first place. Glo really doesn’t do much with music content so I assume D’banj has been counting his losses seeing he would have earned huge cheques from MTN’s several VAS products’, a telecoms insider told us.

There has been no official announcement from MTN, D’banj or Globacom.

The 51-year-old graduate of Ambrose Alli University whose real name is Atunyota Alleluya Akporobomerere stated that he learnt how to mend shoes at a tender age and moved on to do other menial jobs just to make ends meet.

Ali Baba said his vast knowledge in shoe making left his female shoemaker Michelle dazed the first time they met.

The popular stand up comic used, Michele Leathers as she is known, as an example to one of his 'beefers' in another post on his social media. Ali Baba claimed that this particular hater goes on blogs and drop nasty comments on any post about him, simply cause Ali Baba did not help him when he was in need of 230,000 naira for his school fees.

He said if he did not teach me about the making of a shoe, it will be impossible to know how to fix what you do not know how to make. He said the best way to learn how to fix anything is to know how it's made. He said that is why in Aba, where he learnt how to make shoes, in 1975, his master will go buy imported brogue shoes and take them apart. Then teach him and his fellow apprentices how and why the different part of the shoe helps to make the shoe what it becomes. I remember the first day I met @micheleathers1 and I took her through how to make shoes. She was dazed. This post is to tell all the lazy guys who think sitting down and waiting for GOVT to give them a job is cool. You will regret it. I have been many things in my life. Conductor. Sand digger. After the #savemayowa scam was uncovered by ace blogger, LIB, Nollywood star, Toyin Aimakhu was dragged in the mud for the pivotal role she played in the fund raising.

In a recent chat after her brief visit to LUTH, Toyin revealed how she was fooled by a fake medical report, she told Y!Naija;

“They tagged me, she sent a message to me… they said she’s my huge fan saying she had cancer and she needed help and wanted me to come… I showed the doctor the (medical) report and the doctor said ‘which report?’. They said it was a fake report.

“They just came up with the plan on Sunday. They now came to LUTH to appear as if they were in LUTH. When they saw me they said I did not help them to beg for money… that they don’t know anything.”

Police have since arrested Mayowa brothers for defrauding Nigerians of over N30million.

I laid my hands on a video of the actress crying her eyes out at the hospital after discovering the scam..

Pop star Davido revealed in a recent chat that his dad, Dr. Deji Adeleke once threatened to arrest D’banj and Don Jazzy over a controversial issue.

He made the revelation in an interview with Ebro Darden of Hot 97 in New York, days after his performance at One Africa Music Fest. The HKN chief said it was because his dad thought he had gone missing and he didn’t like his association with the musicians as he wanted him to finish school first before any other thing, made him threaten to arrest them.

"I was hanging out with D’banj at the time, he had that Kanye deal. I now told my Dad that I was trying to stay, and he was like ‘What? My friend you better go back to school," he recalled.

"I called my roommate, and told him ‘Imma do this no more. If my Dad calls, tell him you don’t know where I’m at.

"When I left, my family was looking for me for like six months. They sent a letter to D’banj house, they sent a letter to Psquare house, they sent letters to everybody’s house. My Dad was calling the school, and they were telling him; ‘He wasn’t even here for the past semester, he left..’

"It was like the whole Nigeria knew who I was before I even dropped a single. Kamal that is my manager now, used to be Don Jazzy’s assistant. My Dad started calling him and said ‘if I see you guys with my son, all of you are getting arrested."

He also revealed that he has three songs in the works with American rapper Young Thug, while also defining his genre of music.

"I don’t even call my music Afrobeat, I call mine Afrofusion. To me it’s just too different. I can’t tell you it’s Afrobeat, because it’s not.

"You know the originator of the Afrobeat is Fela. Fela has a sound which I can say has heavy baseline, brass instrument, [and] the percussion is different. If you ask me ‘Gobe’ is Calypso, Afro mixed with Calypso. But I feel like the Afrobeat is catchy and has caught the wave since time. Because I know some Afrobeat songs that I don’t want to call Afrobeat. I call them Afro-Pop or I call Afro Trap. Everything is just still African music," he said.

YBNL star, failed to pull a perfect Beyonce after he dropped his much anticipated album on iTunes 2days before the official release date.

While some of his fans are delighted to finally get their hands on Adekunle's album, the singer is actually facing a terrible spell. Hours after dropping it on iTunes, Nigerian music websites and blogs started uploading the full, Gold Album on their sites for people to download for free.

Personally I have lost count of the amount of links telling me to download the 'Orente' singer full album. While the album can already be described as a hit with a day out in the market, Adekunle Gold has lost quite a lot of money that would have landed in his pocket of the much talked about album remained on iTunes alone.

This is a message to all show promoters and night club owners. A fake Adekunle Gold was busted at a popular night club in Surulere, Lagos last night by a show promoter named Kogbagidi.

The impersonator of the popular RnB artist Adekunle Gold was cruising around Surulere night clubs on tour when a fan of the YBNL star, noticed him and phoned a famous promoter kogbagidi, who immediately identified the impersonator at the V. I. P section sipping Hennessy with cold ice and chicks around him.

When he was questioned about specific details of his supposed record label, YBNL and he couldn't provide viable answers he was openly accused by the club owner and Kobagidi of impersonation.

When the impersonator (fake Adekunle Gold), saw that he had been discovered, he begged the owner of the club for his dare life and ran before the police got there.

Fans have been called to alert any security agencies or call 112 or 767 if you see this hungry impersonator around.

The popular children entertainment company will introduce a biracial, same-sex couple in an upcoming episode of its animated series Loud House, making it the first show in Nickelodeon history to feature a married, same-sex couple, according to Entertainment Weekly. 

The cartoon show focuses on the life of 11-year-old Lincoln Loud who lives with 10 sisters. Many have taken to Twitter to praise Nickelodeon for the progressive move.
